Hello friends welcome to Learn and Explore! Today I will show you how to create how to generate contour drawing of a particular  location without visiting the site location. in this video i will show very easiest method of generating contour by the help of QGIS software and some internet tools it's available on internet free of cost and in very easy method i will show you the example so to draw the contour i have chosen an area from Arunachal Pradesh the hilly terrain i have chosen a location a particular  location from state of Arunachal Pradesh, India and also guys in the past few days i was  exploring QGIS and in future i will bring   more videos more tutorials on QGIS if you  don't know about QGIS i can explain already I shared how to download QGIS QGIS  is Quantum GIS and GIS stands for   Geographical Information System you can download the QGIS software from the internet www.qgis.org and to download the software you can download the stable version so that it will be easier for you   also i will upload the tutorials of qgis in two  languages one is English and other one is Hindi   so stay tuned with us subscribe and click the bell notification so that whenever we will upload new   video will be get notified so let's begin the  contouring in QGIS software i have imported   a google map satellite overlay here by the  help of this plugin quick map service plugin   and if you want to know how to install this  plugin you can check this video from the i button   i link so i imported this google map satellite  imagery to view the location of where i want to   generate the contour so i have chosen  an hilly terrain earlier i told you   so the first step is you have to create  some regular or irregular points at a   different distance like 50 meter or 5 meter so for this here is an option in the vector tool   vector menu u will find research tools and  there you will find regular points option   click on here and regular points dialog box  will appear here in the input extent click this   and draw on canvas okay so i am drawing a canvas or what i will generate contour click here   draw on canvas and just like this the canvas will be taken now the point spacing or count   so i will give the point spacing  as 50 meter here in meter if your   drawing unit or the coordinate system  is in degree minute second then you can   give the point spacing different some different value i also saw this in later and here asking for output layer do nothing just keep  the point spacing and click on the run button ok   then close it see the points have been created and i feel that i need to create some more   precious points like not 50 meter i want to make points with 10 meter difference so i will go to   the vector menu again go to research tool and regular points then again the draw on map canvas   i'm drawing the canvas here and this time i'm giving the spacing as 10 meter and click on run   now close so it's here you can see the points okay now what you have to do is right  click on the layer go to export save as and   the format will be keyhole  markup language that is kml so   the format is kml and you have to give a  file name don't input the file name here   go to browse and give the file  name so i'm in the desktop i am   saving the file here like data kml okay  now save and keep it as it is and click ok you don't need to add this  in the map just click ok so layer exported successfully now if you  click here the layer will be visible here   okay now go to google and search for  gps visualizer elevation okay search it   and you will find a website there that  is gps visualizer.com go to that website   because i have created the points over the  location of which i want to generate control   so like if you want to see the attributes just  right click on it and go to open attribute table   there is nothing just only one id  but i need elevation to draw contour   but i don't know the elevation so i will  download the elevation from this website gps visualizer it's free to use  and you can convert it to elevation   so i'm uploading the file just a second this one and then convert and add elevation  so click here it will take a little bit time   very small time then you will get  the gpx file for that kml file so basically i have created a point kml  file and i need to obtain the elevation   of the each points through the gpsvisualizer.com  website so let's wait to download the gpx file see here the file is ready to download whatever i required so click here and download it my file is downloading here and so  on download it so go to the file and i will import that file in  QGIS i am removing this layer   and this is my downloaded file  just drag and drop it here okay see here are the data you can  see these are the way points   i had 31 000 points over that location so i will select only the waypoints and i don't require the   other points because the data is in  here so i click on this and add layer so see the points have been  here points are now here   okay 31000 points okay now just right  click on it and see that attribute tables see in the attribute table you can find  that one field is there a elevation   which stand for elevation and this  elevation comes to meter format   so i got the elevation of each points  very easily now the time is for   generating contour so i have the points i have the layer so with this data i will generate contour   over here so to generate contour you have to go to vector menu and you will find that contour option and in this contour dialog  box the input layer will be   the gpx layer what i have imported right now and the data value here in the data value you have to click the attributes click the field where the  elevation data exists so i have the elevation   field i will select this and here it will come  like this and here there is multiple options   i will choose control lines and the method  will be fixed contour interval and i will   give an interval of let's suppose 20 meter okay  and the number here is a number asking for number   just anything you can add like 10 000 i will  prefer that whatever your number is add some   greater values over there so i  will give the contour interval as   20 meter and the number will be like this number is depends upon how many contours you want   so i'm just giving like this number so that no contour beta is missing from maximum number is   two zero six zero because my maximum elevation is above or around two zero six zero meters   so no problem now like this i will click on  add here or here is the option apply colors   the colors will be added automatically or you can select it from here to give the color or else you   can colorize it or symbolize it later also i am just selecting any color and click on add button   now the control will be added automatically  now close it and see the contour is ready   so i'll just minimize it and i'll check  off the points and see the contour is ready if i remove the overlay see the contour is ready and also ah if you want to know that the line   here is showing a line and what is the value of this contour you can add this very easily in qgis   just select this layer and go to  here level level option that abc   click here and select the label add single levels and see automatically it's showing here you can elevation or label also whatever  you want I'm just giving elevation and okay so this is the data this is 1600 meter then 1620 1640 1660 okay if you want to make the   contour interval 10 you can also do that I'll  show you again how to use that control how to   draw the contour so for this I'm minimizing  it and going to my points this data file   and then again I'm going to vector contour  then the point layer and the elevation data and fixed control interval is i'm  giving as 10 and then i will click add already I applied the layer so I am replacing it close see the control interval has been changed to 10 meter earlier it was 20 meter so like this   way you can see that this is a hill hill slope  uh if you turn on the google satellite it will   be like this it's a hill so it is coming  like this you can cross check this data with   google earth also it is much accurate if you  just want to know about the detailed analysis   of your terrain of a site location you want to  do some survey work or some recognition survey   you can use this method to know the surface of that particular location the terrain of that  location that will be easier for you to plan yours and survey work so that's it for today and hope   you will like this method and have no extra effort required in very simple way you can generate the Contour also you can apply hillside here will be look more attractive i will show that later to you   and if you like this tutorial like this  video and give your valuable feedback to us   and it will encourage us and see you  in the next video thank you take care
