hey what's up everyone and welcome back to your new video here on the channel in today's video we're taking a look at how we can do our keyword research using the semrush platform so if you are doing keyword research for SEO purposes maybe for your website or perhaps your YouTube channel then some Rush is a great tool to use but you kind of have to learn how to use the tool and how to use utilize every single function that is available within the tool in order to maximize your usage and just making sure that you're using all the tools correctly so in this tutorial I'll walk you through each individual step you need to know in order to get started with your keyword research process using semrush and hopefully by the end of the video you kind of have a better understanding of how to use the summer platform and how to find the right keywords for either your website blog or whatever else you are planning to build so that being said let's just get into the video and hopefully you guys do enjoy okay so the first thing you want to do is just head over to the seminars platform if you don't have an account already I would recommend you choose the link down in the video description it is a paid link so when you sign up using my link down in the description I do get a small Commission on top of that but you also get a 14 day free trial on The Summer's platform instead of the normal seven day free trial that you get when you sign up but once you are logged into a platform and you have your account ready all we really have to do to get started is jump over to the keyword magic tool now you can also go here at the top and just search whatever you're looking for whatever you're planning to do keyword research for so let's say we are planning on doing something for hotels we can just search hotel right in here and then we'll get some over some sort of overview of the keyword in general so we can see the search volume in the Czech Republic because I have a Czech Republic selected right here we can see the keyword difficulty which will kinda give us an idea of how hard it will be for us to rank for this specific keyword we can also see the countries which are searching these keywords demo so we can see that the global search volume for the keyword is 60 million per month and the highest is India which is probably just based on their country population which is the reason why they have the highest search volume um moving down we have some keyword variations as well so we can see some other related keywords we have questions over here and we have related keywords as well we can also see the average CPC cost so this is if you're planning to do paid ads this is probably what you're going to have to pay per click and then you also have the intent over here so navigational and transactional navigational people are trying to find something like an hotel which is obvious for this keyword right here and also transactional because people are looking to book a hotel so that I would be seen as a transactional keyword uh but with that being said if we go over to the keyword magic tool we'll get some even deeper information about this keyword and keywords related to this keyword as well so I'm just going to go ahead and click on keyword magic tool over here that will take me to this page here which gives me a full list of all the related keywords in this country and because we are not from the Czech Republic and I don't even understand what's on this list let's just go ahead and select an English-speaking country let's say the US so right here you can select any country so you if you're doing keyword research for Belgium for example because you're you're you have a shop in the Belgium Market or your website is directed towards Belgium people or Belgium consumers you want to make sure you select the right Market over here because otherwise the search volume and the keywords that you see right here are not going to be related because how people search in Belgium and how how people searching friends are going to be completely different and even the way that people search in the UK and how people search in the United States are going to be completely different because the consumers are way different so one keyword that is working in the UK might not even be working in the US because the way the consumers talk and the way that consumers are using the search engine could potentially be very very different between the two markets so make sure you are using multiple sources if you're targeting let's say a global view make sure you're looking at different countries to kind of get that Global Perspective and if you're just targeting a specific country make sure you are selecting the right country over here so if you go to the US for example we'll see that the keywords over here will change and the search volumes as well as the US is way bigger than the Czech Republic the top keyword is hotels near me we have a hotel so tell tylerme hotels.com cheap hotels near me And so much more over here then we can also do it by the different categories here so Summers kind of snaps up on various categories that people are doing so if we go to City for example the keyboard so update right here and this will only include keywords which has City in the keyword and hotel so now we have Atlantic city hotels or hotels on Atlantic City Ocean City hotels Panama City hotels and so much more so this is kind of useful if you want to narrow down your search without having to retype anything up here you can just kind of search down here and you can also exclude certain things so if we want to exclude as pause we can exclude it here if you want to exclude Boutique we can exclude it here as well so you can kind of narrow down your research quite a lot by just narrowing it down here on the side you can also look by the volume over here and then you'll have the total volume and by the number will just be the total number of keywords under each related topic then looking at the full list that we have here on the side we have the each individual keyword we have the intent so tell us near me is going to be transactional I would probably say that that is navigational as well because people are trying to navigate to an hotel but make sense we also have the volume over here this is going to be the monthly search volume in the total market so in the us the total search volume per month is going to be about 2 million two hundred and forty thousand we can also see the trend chart so if any anything has a specific trend I see here just hotels kind of trending right now because probably people are probably booking their summer holiday which is probably why it's currently peaking peaking over here but this is a great way to kind of find the trends before other people do so if you see something that has a really low search volume but in the last few months it has peaked quite a lot you can kind of pick that up and try to rank for that keyword before anyone else kind of has the opportunity to try to capture that market so it could be the first first mover on the keyword uh moving on we have the keyword difficulty it's kind of self-explanatory but kind of what it is is that how difficult will it be for for you to rank for for this keyword in comparison to the other websites which are ranking for this keyword so if we take a very competitive keyword for example like banking or like private banking there's going to be big institutions which are well established they have a lot of authority on their domain just based on that the company is so old is a very well-known brand on the internet which Google knows because Google knows how many people are talking about this company and talking about that specific domain name and linking to that domain domain on various news articles and whatever it is um so that is what the keyword difficulties keyword difficulty is based on now if you have a very strong domain with a very strong domain Authority it's going to be a lot easier for you to rank for competitive keywords but if you have a brand new domain name it's going to be super difficult so what I would recommend you to do is kind of narrow it down and try to Target keyword with way less keyword difficulty in the beginning because it will be easier to rank for those keywords and once you start ranking for those keywords that will help your domain overall so once you start ranking for the lower keywords with less keyword difficulty and probably less search volume that will help your domain Authority and eventually you can start try to Target a more difficult keywords with higher search volume and that's kind of the basics of it but I'm not going to go too deep into keyword difficulty but I would recommend you to kind of find something that is within your range and if you have a brand new domain name don't try to Target these keywords go with the easier keywords to rank for instead and finally we have CPC which is just going to be what you're playing paying per click or cost per click in USD over here so this is basically how much it would be paying for each individual keyword so this is great if you just want to understand how much you would have to pay if you want to do Google ads at the same time then we have competitiveness so this will give us an idea of how competitive this keyword is in terms of um Google ads so how difficult it will be to kind of be part of the bidding process for these keywords in in Google ads basically serp features will be different kind of ways that people can interact and see things on Google so on Google you probably have seen people also ask which is kind of like a specific element in the Google search which you can see questions and answers to those questions directly within Google search you can also see images or just a direct quote or you can see many other features directly within the Google search so these serp features are just going to depend what type of intent each individual keyword has so if if you're looking at for example a straight question so what is the best hotel in this city then the serp features are probably going to be related to just FAQs because people are searching a question so it would be relevant for an answer to be the first thing that the user sees when they Google it so this will kind of give you an idea of what type of serp feature you could try to implement on your website so what Shima structure you should be using um but yeah I usually don't use this myself but it will give you a good overview of what's possible within that specific keyword then finally we have a result so the result is going to be the total number of websites which have something related to each specific keyword on that specific page so hotels there's 4.5 billion Pages which is related to hotels which is also one of the reasons why it's so competitive because there's so much content about this specific topic that's going to be very hard to rank for that keyword and then the final part here is just when the data was updated last which you can kind of refresh if you want to but you don't really necessarily have to do it if you're just doing General keyword research uh jumping over here we also have some additional settings so we can kind of narrow down our search so as I was talking about keyword difficulty if we want to make it a bit easier for us if we're just starting a brand new website we'll probably look at something within between 15 and 29 maybe even 0 to 14. so let's have a look at 0 to 14 to begin and as you can see right here we have a keyword which is trending but it is about some kind of TV series but if I was running a web or some sort of blog or something about um I'm assuming this is a TV series then this will be a great keyword to Target because it has five in keyword difficulty there's only 17 results but you can see the trend line over here and 5400 surge volume so this will be a great keyword to Target then moving down we have some more keywords I think most of these are um yeah most of these are probably not really related to yeah related to hotels but this will kind of give you a general overview of what you will be looking at if you're targeting the hotel keyword and if we just search for something else real quick so Hotel in New York uh or Hotel New York this will give us a bit more narrowed down searches which we can Target right here so if I'm running a website about hotels this is probably where I would start if I just start a brand new website then going over to easy we can find some keywords which probably has more search volume yes they do over here and still the keyword difficulty is not that hard so it would be fairly easy for me to actually rank for these specific keywords now if we jump over to questions questions is really great to implement if you have an article for example or just a page talking about let's say hotels in New York it's just a general page about hotels in New York at the bottom of the page or somewhere on that specific page what I would do is add an FAQ section and in that FAQ section what I would try to implement is just questions related to your main topic which in this case would be hotels in New York so what are people searching and these questions over here are usually either from people just searching directly so someone is just searching a very long question into Google or it could also be a voice search so if someone asks their Google device okay Google what is the best hotel in New York what Google is gonna do is that Google is gonna look at the search results and look at what the website is answering that specific question on their website with the best answer and how Google's Google determines that is just based on who is occupying the search result within Google so if you own that question in Google that will also be read out by Google devices when people ask directly go okay Google what is the best hotel in New York and if you do if you have that answer you will be the one that Google is reading out so by adding an FAQ section with questions uh like these and just implementing them on the site and giving a good answer you actually have a good um good chance of ranking for those FAQ sections and also meeting the customer throughout their information searching process including through voice search which is pretty cool now we can also jump over to intent so obviously if you have a transactional keyword and you can narrow it down let's say your page is transactional it's your booking page you want to make sure you add keywords are transactional because you want to make sure that your page is meeting the right intent for what the user is looking for if I'm searching for a booking Hotel and the first listing in Google is a page which is talking about the different architecture or the best hotels best hotel architecture in New York that is not going to be a relevant result for me as a user because I'm I'm searching booking book hotel in New York so I want to land on a page which gives me the chance to book a a hotel in New York and that makes sense because when you Google something you want the most relevant result based on your intent at that stage so if I'm looking for buying white shoes I'm looking to buy white shoes and I want the results to be related to what I'm searching for so making sure you're taking into account the intent of each individual keyword will give you a great idea of what type of content you should be creating so going back to the questions in general over here uh we have hotels and New York Manhattan right here is it is informational and is also transactional now it might be confusing okay whatever content should I be creating in order to rank for this keyword well the best idea is going to be to Google this keyword and see who is ranking for the specific keyword and how their content is structured because there's a reason why they are ranking number one is because they're meeting the intent of the user in the best possible way now keep in mind that my search results right here might be different compared to what someone who's actually searching in New York is so what we can do is actually open the overview instead of going into Google Google directly and we can see the serp analysis from some Rush so normally you would just Google the keyword and see who's ranking but now we can actually go into Summers directly and see who is ranking number one so as you can see we have booking.com and the page that is ranking for this keyword is going to be this page right here which is just hotels and Manhattan New York this is in Spanish exactly so just keyword is in Spanish I should have known as you can see this is the result we get for the specific page and this is this is meeting the intent in the best possible way so if I was gonna try to Target and try to rank for this keyword I would have to create something similar to booking.com so a page which has the feature to look for hotels or book hotels or see available hotels and just something similar to this now if we look at something else in here I think most of these are probably going to have like a very similar results I think most of these are going to just going to be booking pages so let's have a look right here we're going to open the overview and as you can see bad for Bedford Hotel in New York I'm gonna assume this is just a brand but let's see who's ranking number one you're welcome this looks like it's not a specific branded website I think it's just like a generic website trying to Target keywords and as you can see they're ranking number one and they just give a description of the hotel so the hotel Bedford New York gives the description quick star rating location is not very specific it doesn't even give an address um gives you a map over here and there's another useful information others down here category amenities and note so you can see this page right here is very very basic so I can probably right now create a new page that looks a bit better it's a bit more engaging has a similar structure but it's just way better at giving the user the information that they need quicker and I can probably rank for this keyword and even how to rank this specific website here and that would give me lead to probably about 210 surgery per month let's say I get about 80 of those clicks if I rank number one that will at least give me a couple hundred users per month coming in for that specific keyword now another cool feature that you can use uh within the open or the overview of each specific keyword is that let's say we wanted to rank for Bedford Hotel New York we also have related keywords over here so these are other keywords that we could potentially also Implement on our page so if the main keyword we want to rank for is Hotel Bedford New York we can also Implement these other additional keywords onto that page now this keyword seems to be way more competitive than the keyword that we selected but usually what you want to do is select one main keyword for your page which you are targeting and then you select keywords with less search volume but that are easier to rank for as like your secondary keywords and they can also be part part of the same page that you're building now another thing we can do is also look at phrase match so this will give us the exact keywords or keyboard phrase in various orders so that would mean you would either have Hotel New York at the beginning or at the end of the of them search but you still have the main keyword within the actual keyword results let's say so we have Capital Hotel New York New York Athletic Club Hotel The Villa New York and then we can do exact match that will leave us with a full sentence of Capital Hotel New York the blank you'll tell New York Bedford Hotel New York Baltimore Hotel New York Drake Hotel New York and so on and then we can do related it was this will just give us a very broad keywords which usually aren't that relevant but is a good idea to just have a look over here if there's anything that you find interesting and want to Target finally we also have languages so this again goes back to kind of the market that you're targeting but let's say we are trying to Target French customers in in the US we can also make sure to have like a French version of our website because let's say the French users are just searching in French whereas we saw earlier people searching in Spanish because they just use Spanish natively when they search in Google so we want to make sure that we meet both demands both the English version and the Spanish version when we are in the US and if we are in France for example or Germany there might be other languages we might want to implement and make sure we are taking into account the keywords they are using as well because we want to make sure we are meeting both ends of the customers otherwise we're leaving a lot of customers uh on the plate basically so you want to make sure we target all of them um but with that being said that is going to be basically all of the information that you will get within the keyword magic tool on samrash another useful thing is that you can add these keywords to your list so once you find the keyword you want to Target you can just go ahead and add it to your keyword list and that will just keep them all in one same place you can also export these keywords if you want to play around in Excel or Google Sheets you can just export the data and then you can use it later to structure an internal file on your own just directly in Google Sheets or you can keep it all again you can keep it all directly within semrush but just selecting a couple of keywords adding them to the keyword list and creating a list so let's say Hotel New York and then we can just pop that in so we just go over to our keyword manager we'll have the actual keyword list here and we can go into the keyword list and we can just see directly the keywords that we have the country that we use to find these keywords we have the intent we have the seed keyword so the keyword used to find these additional keywords we also have the volume Trend and everything else on here as well that is going to be the basics of using the keyword magic tool in semrush just making sure that you are always taking into account the intent behind each individual keyword not only looking at search volume because 2.2 million searches per month sounds great but if it's impossible to rank for that keyword there is no point in trying to optimize your website for hours upon hours and adding new content and making sure that the page is correct because there's no chance you're gonna rank for that keyword so it would you will just be better off trying to rank for the less difficult keywords to begin with and then just grow your way up until you eventually have a strong enough domain enough Authority enough backlinks enough people talking about your actual website before you try to Target those more difficult keywords so start by targeting the less competitive keywords make sure you implement FAQ so you can also be seen in the feature snippet such as people also asked and voice search and that will be the best
