[Music] hi folks coachbuck and nitro there's four main competitive strokes in swimming freestyle backstroke butterfly and breaststroke we're going to work right now on backstroke now backstroke my most important thing for this is body position now number one rule of backstroke keep your nose dry keep your nose dry ears can be under yes head could be under yes keep that nose dry that's your snorkel that's your lifeline you need that nose dry now i'm gonna start with just some simple kicking on my back my hands will be used on the sides of my body right here i'm like waving goodbye to my feet you know say bye bye feet bye bye feet i'm moving like it's also called thinning it's also known as spinning because you're like kind of like a fish using your fin i'm going to film with my hands and i'm going to thin with my feet stretch out nice and tall ears are under comfortable neutral position like with my head my nose will be dry my ears will be under simple take a big breath relax ears under and here we go easy fitting nice and stretched out tall i want to utilize the entire surface of the water as much as i can okay that feels pretty comfy there's a pretty good example to show pretty much for all of swimming shows the theory of displacement now if i take this mirror right here the swim mirror and i drop it over here in the water let it go it goes right to the bottom gonna grab it again i'll do it again drop it sinks however because the surface area and displacement i can sit on top of the water maybe it will eventually sink but it's going to take a while to sink so what it did is it spread itself out over the top of the water this way it's going down this way it's staying for a while so i'm going to use that principle in my swimming when it comes to this backstroke watch how i'm stretching myself over the water just fitting again thinning on the side of my side of my body my hips waving about my feet kicking nice long legs tall posture neutral position head nose will stay dry watch lay it back big breath right now get started now i'm moving objects in motion tend to stay in motion much easier once you get going ears are under fitting relax faster you'll pick up the intensity now we're going to add the arms the backstroke the backstroke arms like the freestyle arms other than it's reverse quarter we're going to be working backwards now the thumb's going to come out of the water first the pinky is going to go in the water first without thinking about it you just take your arm and just throw it straight back guess what's going to land on the water the pink common mistake backstrokers make people trying to learn backstroke their arm speed is just too slow every action has equal opposite reaction my arm is out of the water that's a lot of weight out of the water well it's got to work against gravity it's going to push me down watch what happens my arms go too slow now that's not the most comfortable in the world to do watch what happens when i speed my arms up i'm gonna throw them back pretty fast from in the water love it my body loves it when my arms in the water my body loves it when my arm's in the water watch the difference most competitive pools have what we call backstroke flags in a pool what those are for they become your eyes where the wall is while you're on your back watching while you're while you're on your back looking up eyes are up belly's up toes are stretched out nice and tall you see those flags use a certain number of strokes before you touch the wall normally maybe four strokes five strokes some folks take six strokes whatever that number is that'll be your stroke count and that will help you when you get to competitive pools if you're actually in the water doing some laps use those flags they'll judge your distance for you to the wall but you've got to count your own strokes that'll prevent you from banging your head smacking an arm on a wall and that can hurt now if you notice all the strokes so far freestyle breaststroke butterfly and backstroke our head is in a neutral position meaning it's in the same position as my body is if i look down my whole body has to go down to be neutral so if i'm doing breaststroke i'm looking down after every stroke if i'm doing freestyle my eyes are down if i'm doing butterfly after the breath my eyeballs are down if i'm doing bad stroke my eyes are up so your chins up a little bit my ears are under still neutral position looks like this chin's up a little bit tummy's up i want to add the arms i certainly can't and don't forget the three rules number one don't get frustrated number two be patient number three practice hey folks don't forget to subscribe to our youtube channel click that button right down there tell your friends about us we're giving away a nice shirt to one of our subscribers every month it could be you you
