- Hi, sweet dancers. I am so stoked to announce that I have another live
dance-workshop this month on August 30th from 9:00
a.m. to noon p.m. (giggles) Pacific Standard Time, I'm hosting a ballet workshop. So, that very first hour is going to be an open-level ballet class, we have bar, center, across
the floor, the whole shebang. That second hour is going
to be a choreography class, so you're gonna learn a
brand new ballet routine set to some popular music. And that third hour, drum
roll, please (smacks lips) an interview with Kathryn
Morgan, Miami City Ballet soloist and just all-around beautiful dancer. We're going to interview Kathryn, learn about her epic
returned to the dance world and everything that she
learned along the way. So get your ticket to three
hours of live-dance content. I can't wait to have you, these workshops are honestly so fun and I love talking to all of you. So, if you're on Instagram, swipe up. If you're on YouTube, go to the video description
or the pinned comment and click the link and I'll see you there. Babes, today we're doing a fan kick. You need to be warmed up
before you do this little guy cause it is a flexibility trick. So pop over to one of my warm up vlogs and do a little hamstring stretch, do a little booty stretch,
get a little warm-up hop, then maybe get your feet
all stretched up too, and let's do this
fan-favorite, classical kick. All right, I'm gonna be teaching you
three different versions. You have your chaînés
fan, your ball change fan, and then just a standing fan in a plié. So we'll start out with our chaînés fan. And before we do that,
you do want to make sure that you know your fan
starts from the corner. That's the most important thing. Your fan starts from the
corner, lifts to the corner, opens up to the front and
ends at the other corner. So you're literally
making the shape of a fan. You know, those little (gasps) fans, that's the shape that you're making. So, a chaînés fan looks like this. We're going to start
out with a tendu devant, shoulders and arms in third position. Your chaînés is in a plié, meaning you're gonna to bend
those little knees of yours, chaînés (swipes foot). Now I'm facing the corner, (snaps fingers) so I'm going to lift that leg up in a fan and I'm going to open up
to the other diagonal. When you do lift your
arms, (exhales sharply) you're going to want
to lift your shoulders cause you're stressed,
you're up on a relevé, drop everything down, (swipes
foot) control and over. Let me do it in
full-height and full-speed. Five, six, seven, and plié, (swipes foot) lift (taps foot) and down. Try it again. Five, six, seven, and plié, (swipes foot) lift and down. (taps foot) So the idea is that you
float up (snaps fingers) and you're like, "I guess
I'll put my foot down." That's your chaîné fan. You guys, if you want
more flexibility content, if you're trying to do your fan kick, and you're like, "Yo, my
legs don't go that high," you need some flexibility training. and I have weekly,
exclusive flexibility vlogs on patreon.com/missauti under the "Flexibility Babeh" package. All right, the next one
is your ball change fan. So whichever leg you wanna use, you're gonna to step out,
ball (snaps fingers), change. So you're stepping on the ball of one foot and then you're coming
back down to the other. Then you're gonna lift
up to a fan from here (slaps leg) with the leg that's out. Dancers, you can either go up to a relevé, meaning you're up on your arch. You can do a flat foot, that's fine. For right now, we'll do a flat foot because the next one's in a plié. So we go ball (snaps fingers), change, you're in a plié, but you're gonna
straighten your bottom leg as you fan around (taps foot) and over. Again, corner, center, corner. Five, six, seven, and you go ball, (snaps fingers) change, fan and around. I liked it clean arms so I can just focus on
what my leg's doing. All right, so our very
last one is in a plié, so that supporting leg is bent. Now, when we do the one that has a plié, generally you take your eyeline down to the diagonal of the bent leg. So it looks like this. Plié (swipes foot), fan. Just kind of a fancy little
line, we'll try it again. Five, six, eyeline down (swipes foot), corner, center, corner and then you can step out of it. All right, I hope you had
fun doing a little fan kick. Fan kicks are in literally everything, you have your lyrical, your contemp, your jazz, your competition, your musical theater
moment (snaps fingers). If you're a dancer, you need
to know how to do a fan. Remember, the most important thing is corner, center, corner, and straighten your legs,
and point your toes, and press your shoulders
down and close your rib cage, squeeze your core. It's actually a lot more to
it than I thought. (laughs) Did you notice that I
lost my train of thought halfway through that sentence? You guys, I love you so much. Show me all your fan kicks on the inter-webs, meaning Instagram, tag me so I can see you dancing. I love you, I'll see you next week. Bye (swipes and taps feet) (uplifting music)
