hi there i'm tyler and welcome back to the channel today we are at the lake house yet again because we are building a kitchen i'm going to be using all three quarter inch pre-finished on both sides plywood for the carcasses of all these cabinets this is going to save me an incredible amount of time in finishing because i don't need to finish the inside of the cabinets at all the only thing that will need color is the face frames in the doors plywood does tend to have quite a bit of tear out when cutting it on the table saw so i'm using a combination amana blade from tools today to make sure i get clean cuts and a zero clearance insert which is probably the most important aspect [Applause] cut up all the pieces for the carcasses and then some smaller pieces which will act as the cross members to assemble the carcasses themselves [Music] once all the work was done over on the table saw it was time to spend a lot of qt with the track saw and i needed to use the track saw because i don't have enough width capacity on the table saw although stay tuned because i have an idea of how to expand the capacity on the table saw without spending any money at all anyway the track saw from craig did great work on these pieces of plywood i did notice a little bit of tear out and that was easily fixed by lowering the blade guard on the front of the saw and this helped prevent immensely the amount of chip out you can see the blue guard in front of the blade there that's what i'm talking about these are all of the sides for the cabinets and i want to cut a four inch tall by two inch deep toe kick on there and i'm going to use the band saw to do that i do have a fine tooth blade on here so we should get a finished edge that we don't have to do any more cleaning on and i've used my dial indicator which has a magnetic base on there as my stop so it's easily adjustable so right now it's set up for four inches we'll do all the four inch cuts then we'll readjust it to two inches and do all the two inch cuts and draw our pieces out from there [Music] once i had all those toe kicks cut out it was over to the miter saw station to cut down all of those cross members and a bunch of shelves which were easier to cut on the miter saw by flipping the boards over then using the track saw or the table saw again over here on the miter saw i noticed a little bit of tear out and there's no zero clearance insert on here and then to make one quickly i used some zero clearance tape from fast cap that i just taped on the throat of the saw cut it nice and fresh and that completely got rid of the tear out such a great little trick then it was on to cutting a whole bunch of shelves as you can see right here actually wider than the capacity of the miter saw but because i have that repeatable stop block i simply flip the board over and carry on here you can see a great shot of those clean cuts if you ever do undertake a project like this i highly recommend marking all of your pieces so you don't lose track of where you are and what you got there was tons of pieces i don't even know how many for this big kitchen build out as you can see behind me right here and over here we have all of our parts for the kitchen cabinets upper and lower cut out i have divided them into little stacks which are each individual cabinet and we have all of the bases with the toe kick cut right over there now a bit of an issue is that this is all pre-finished plywood as you can see it is going to save us a ton of time in finishing but it is a little bit more tricky to assemble i have done a little bit of research apparently there are some glues that work better than others i'm going to be using this tight bond quick and thick but because the bond isn't going to be super duper i want to cut pocket holes and all these cross members here it's a lot of pocket holes but we have the crank form and it's going to go fairly quickly and with those pocket screws and this i'm fairly confident that we will have a structurally strong enough cabinet to make the transition from here to the lake house up north once everything is bolted together countertop on top bolt to the wall it's not going to go anywhere but i want to make sure that the cabinet there's one test one assembled over there i want to make sure these things don't rattle apart on the trip [Music] i did say i was going to use pocket skews i am and i've decided i'm also going to be using some brad nails to pin everything in place and then i will add the pocket screws because it's easier to go about that way than clamping and trying to get everything nice and even so we will be using glue we will pin everything and then we'll add the pocket screws and i like to work my way across so that i can get everything nice and square we will start with our supports here and then we will put nails and glues on the bottom of the other side put our base into place and this will help square everything up and then we will assemble the top completely and our cabinet is done [Music] so [Applause] so well that certainly takes some time to put those cabinets together so i asked my dad to give me a hand and it went much faster assembling all of the framed carcasses sure it would have been easier to add these shelf pin holes when everything was laying flat but i forgot and you got to do what you got to do i also covered all of the pocket holes which will be visible when we are sitting at the table where these cabinets are going to go quick work with some wood putty and you won't even see them when we get some color put on here the distributor that i got all the poplar for this project from actually sells what they call cabinet facing poplar in this case they also sell it in cherry i believe what this is is three quarters of an inch thick and the thickness that i requested in this case is going to be for the face frames back there i also have wider material which is going to be for the doors but if i was to get four quarter material which is actually like 15 16 of an inch from the distributor i would have had to mill that all down to three quarters of an inch and then cut it down to the width that i need and that would have taken forever and this was actually cheaper to buy this cabinet facing material than it was to buy the rough lumber billet down myself so bye golly what a great deal let's get chopping all this up on the miter saw now we're going to drill some pocket holes and make some base rings [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] um yep [Music] [Music] while we're working on the sanding over there let's talk about greenworks outdoor power tools who as you know has been a sponsor of my channel for quite some time if you got a green work 60 volt probe battery you can do all sorts of things like clean your leaves which i did are a whole yard with two batteries today which was awesome and they even have this 300 watt inverter which allowed me to use the same batteries that i already had with me to keep everything charged and my cameras charging up while we were working at the lake house and the electricity was out check out greenworks link down in the description below and thanks greenworks for sponsoring the channel going to be using general finishes product on these cabinets and we're going to be using a tinted top coat of polyurethane and i'm going to be using what general finishes calls their white undercoat it is similar to their sanding sealer which goes underneath their enduro poly but this has white pigment in it so this should help make sure nothing shows through our top coats this is a very thick finish i'm going to be shooting it with my fuji t-75 g-gun with a 1.8 millimeter tip in it [Music] so [Music] [Music] the top coat also by general finishes is a custom tinted white polyurethane for their enduro bar it's a little bit thinner so i'm going to be using a 1.3 millimeter tip in my fuji this is the t-70 gun with a 3m pps cup on there fantastic attachments um i'll have a link down in the description to my setup that i use for all of my spraying it's a longer video not a ton of views but it's filled with great information we're gonna shoot two coats see how it looks and potentially do a third which is the recommended amount of top coats for this general finishes product we did sand everything thoroughly after we shot the white undercoat the primer on there so we are ready to start putting some of this color down which is dover white by sherwin williams so for these cabinets we did spray the unthinned white undercoat which we saw before and i did end up going with three final coats of the top coat i sprayed two coats straight out of the can in the last can i filled my pps cup with 13 ounces of the finish and one ounce of general finishes accelerator and this enhances the product flow just a little bit so you get a smoother finish cabinetparts.com reached out to me a while back to see if we could do a project together didn't have a project at the time and then the lake house flooded so we had a project they have been gracious enough to supply almost all of the hardware that will go in these cabinets to make them functional hinges drawer slides handles and this sweet little cabinet majigger that i'm going to show you right here you can check them out link in the description below cabinetparts.com again they supply most of the hardware here so thanks to them for that check this out so it's going to go right in one of the two smaller cabinets that we've made and [Music] there we go pull out spice rack cup rack or something like that not bad and looks pretty slick i'm only going to show attaching these face frames this one time because it is all the same except for the corner cabinet which was a pain in the neck but what i did was hold the face frame in place with some bessie clamps and use some one and a quarter inch pocket screws to fasten the face frame in place pretty nice in case you were wondering our assembly method must have been adequate because all of the cabinets made it up north without any issues and that's where we are now we are at the lake house all of the drywall is repaired the floor is in video for that link in the description below and it is time to install some cabinets this is a rather inexpensive laser but by golly is it fantastic link to that down below too along with some other tools that we use i measured down from the ceiling to where we wanted all of the bases of the upper cabinets to go shot that laser across the room and then simply screwed the cabinets in place through the cross members into the studs it wasn't exactly that easy because we had to shim things out to make sure they were level and we didn't have any gaps but it wasn't really that bad after we got that corner cabinet in place [Applause] actually i take that back it wasn't that bad after i got this cabinet in place because we had to completely revamp the way the vent for the microwave went through the ceiling before there was just a hood over the stove but we're gonna have a microwave up there now that has an external vent in it it's not all roses and rainbows all the time because once we got our initial batch of cabinets up here i discovered that somewhere i had a measurement off and i had to modify the two cabinets to the right of the sink and build a completely new cabinet that was going to go to the left of the dishwasher by the electrical panel but we got that fixed and we are ready to carry on setting the lower cabinets not a very big deal either lots of shims want to make sure everything is level using a combination of the laser and a regular bubble level and screw everything into the studs i did work my way from the middle of where we wanted the sink which was the middle of the window and worked my way both sides away from that point here is going to be the space for the dishwasher and we have a little cabinet over here which will be for some cookie sheets and pans of that sort here we are assembling what is going to be not an island i guess but a little jetty let's call it with a bar top on the back side of that screwing things together through the face frame we will add a six inch lag screw through the base of these cabinets so that if you run into it you're not going to make everything shift although i think once we get the countertop in place that won't be an issue i did add some blocks between everything here just to make sure nothing moves i didn't actually show the fabrication of the drawers which i think is a pretty unique methodology so we'll show that in another video i simply did not have time in this video but let's install some drawer slides these are soft close drawer slides from cabinetpartson.com link to them down in the description below and again thank you to cabinetparts.com for supplying all of the hardware for this kitchen build i'm using a rockler jig there to hold everything in place while i install the drawer slides and that is an amazing tool and then i'm actually using my mini speed square to put the runners on the trays themselves as i find that just a little bit easier not having to hold the drawer up the entire time adding the shelf pins and putting the shelves which i had previously made and installed some edge banding on so they look fantastic like the interior of these pre-finished cabinets and we have no doors yet make sure you subscribe we got a production style door video coming out where we got to make something like 50 doors for all the cabinets that we have up here this is a painted back panel here just a three quarter inch piece of plywood which will be underneath the countertop and i can't get a screw in here to hold this in place but you get the idea we'll get a screw in there later when i got the proper tools well that is a wrap on building and installing these cabinets and they turned out fantastic the finish on these is impeccable thanks to cabinetparts.com who supplied all the drawer slides shelf pins this sweet little drawer right here and all the hardware that we're going to be using and you'll see that in future videos when we build the doors and of course thanks to greenworks for sponsoring this video and making this channel possible hope you guys enjoyed this video definitely make sure you subscribe because we got some other cool projects happening in this kitchen including the epoxy for countertops that's going to be so much fun tamping that like button if this video helped you guys out if that helps us out and gets this video in front of more eyes i'm diy tyler you guys have a good one
