HOW TO DECORATE A SMALL ENTRYWAY | SUMMER FARMHOUSE FOYER DECOR IDEAS | Entryway Makeover

[Music] hi friends welcome back to simply our home and if you're new here hi my name is amy and welcome in today's video i'll be sharing with you how i decorate our small entryway i also want to share with you the process of getting our foyer or entryway to the point that it is today we're like most homeowners and we didn't tackle this over a weekend or even within a year so this first photo shows how we bought our home 10 years ago it was dark hunter green carpet with dark oak wood trim throughout now that's one thing i think that is super important when you're creating a more cohesive look throughout your house you want to open up and brighten the space so the first thing that we did was to install cream carpet on the stairway so we ripped that honda green carpet up and replace that and that right there started the look of opening it up and making it look larger then the next thing that we did several years later which was actually last year we took on the process of painting all of our oak wood trim throughout our home white and i can't tell you how much that dramatically changed the look of our home so that was our second process and also to tie in with that we painted the walls now from this vantage point right from our front door you can see into our family room our kitchen as well as our dining room so i wanted them to all flow together so painting the walls all the same and we used the sherwin-williams shiitake that's the color and i think that just brought the whole look together made the rooms look like a cohesive unit the third phase i would say was when we added our board and batten now in a small area you want to create some type of feature wall and so by adding different moldings i think that just really added character and interest right from the get-go so we added that board and batten we painted it the same as our moldings which again just lightened up the area and again made it even that much larger we also refinished our floors and that helped to just make everything look nice and polished but that brings us to where we are today in the past we actually had a bench along this wall but i found this beautiful console table from hobby lobby so i'm placing it here and then taking that bench and putting it next to the door so that it's nice place that you can sit down and put on your shoes now that we have the console table in place i first want to go ahead and protect the wall from any damage by adding these felt pads [Music] here are the felt pads that i got off of amazon which i'll link down in the description box for you but they came in a pack of 133 pieces different various sizes like these down here they had both the dark brown and the cream and so i just cut off a little piece here and then adhered it to the back of the cabinet to protect the wall from any bumping or scratching that the console table might do if it is bumped now comes the fun part which is decorating this area for summer so the first piece i'm adding is this beautiful mirror that is actually from my husband scott's grandmother these are just really special pieces to us i love that the frame has so much detail and it has that aged gold look so i want to add that and you can see my huge mess here that is what happens when you start decorating this is my room that is the catch-all so don't mind that but we'll go ahead and place the mirror it it says to the thirsty i will give from the fountain of water of life without payment and that's from revelations 21 6. and i love that this is also from scott's grandmother that barn is absolutely adorable with the well house and all those summery flowers so just knowing that it was in her home is even more special to use it here so i love the woodwork and also that gold trim i think that'll really pick up and complement the mirror so let's go ahead and place this and see how it looks now i'm going to add this watering can flower pod from hobby lobby along with some daisies that i found from amazon and i love how the flowers and the painting kind of jump out and are present in the flower pot next i want to just place these goodwill books that i took a sander to just make them look vintage and each one of these was just a dollar so i'm going to layer that in front with a candle and this candle here is from bath and body works it's the white caramel cold brew after placing the candle i'm going to go ahead and add some farmhouse beads and i'm going to be using the right angle arrangement or formation and so i'm just going to take the farmhouse beads wrap them around the candle and then that forms the point so if you haven't watched my coffee table styling tips you can go back and watch that and you can get more detail on what i'm talking about but i think that looks really good so we can go ahead and move to the bottom shelf now [Music] for the bottom shelf i'm adding this basket that i picked up from tj maxx a couple years back but i love their selection of baskets if you're needing a basket i'd check them out first and sorry about that that is my fur baby nyla passing through but i added a large pillow and then to the front of that i'm using this very small blanket which nyla thinks is a toy and i kept having to say no no no you can't play with that but i'm adding that to the side just draping over and to add a pop of greenery i'm adding this stem that i picked out from joanne fabrics all right for the other side i'm going to take these iron metal black candlesticks that i picked up from hobby lobby and just kind of arrange them sporadically [Music] then in front of the candle holders i thought it would be super appropriate to add a welcome sign this one is actually from the target dollar spot and i thought that would look really cute kind of angled in front of them and then to fill in the bare spot i'm going to add a pot from michael's with a flower that i believe i picked up from ikea i do want to go ahead and apologize right here for my voice i have a stuffy nose and i'm very congested but i hope you can look past that and still enjoy today's video [Music] so here is how the bottom shelf turned out and i can't tell you how excited i am to decorate this console table for all the seasons and holidays to come [Music] okay so now we're going to just take a little spin over to the front door and here you'll see again nyla and i thought i would just go ahead and mention the bell that we have here um she likes to come over and just hit that with her nose or her paw to let us know that she wants to go outside and so i can go ahead and link that that's from amazon moving down here to the rug that she is laying on this is also from amazon and i just love this rug i think it coordinates so well if you're using both gray and beiges and then i picked up a non-slip padding to go under it and it hasn't moved a bit and so those both are from amazon and i will try to link all of that down in the description box so you can easily go and check that out another amazon find is our bench i love this little thing and i love that we ended up placing it here it just gives me another little area to decorate it does have storage it's a little small compartment that you could put some things in and i like that we can scoot the pillows over because i usually put pillows here and sit down put on our shoes and i love the finish i love that it has that little bit of cottagey farmhouse feel coming up here are shelves and a picture that i picked up both from hobby lobby and i love the hooks for seasonal decor so let's move right along and start decorating these for summer for the hooks i'm going to be adding this basket kind of like a purse that has these leather straps and i just think this is absolutely adorable along with this fedora hat both of these are from joanne fabrics then i'll be adding my target watering can then i'll be adding some flowers some daisies and some yellow here is how the hooks turned out and i'm just loving that summery pop of yellow now to finish up this area i'll just add a couple pillows to the bench and then we'll be all finished now if you happen to miss my family room
