How to create Whoosh SFX

hey guys today i'm going to give you a quick overview of the doppler effect so first of all the doppler effect is really really really cool it helps scientists determine how fast stars and galaxies are moving away from us but most importantly it helps sound designers create cool watches spaceships [Music] and car sounds this is ayton cryer from bavagang sound design [Music] so how does it work well basically very basically when an object is moving towards you the sound that it creates is going to be delivered at a higher frequency and when it passes by you and moves away you are going to hear it at a lower frequency this change in pitch is commonly known as the doppler effect we have a few plugins that can help us recreate this effect like traveler by tonsterm and doppler by sound particles but my preferred one is the waves doppler plugin i also added 10 of coupon in the description so how do we use it let's create a spaceship sound i'm using a few layered pads [Music] alright so something that already sounds space like now to the secret ingredient waves doppler plugin let's quickly go through the settings you have the start and the end position which you can change by clicking on the direction right here we have the curve line that represents the pathway of the moving object you can also move the object further away from you if you want and theoretically you stand right here where the red spot is placed then you can change the track time it determines how long your sound is let's set it to 4 seconds now i'm going to play the sound and simply click manual [Music] cool don't forget to change the volume automations to match the movement of the flying object [Music] and that's it easy let's try this with a more common example i'm simply going to take an engine sound and click the manual button all right let's change the track time let's make it shorter and let's play with the pathway of the car and let's change the volume automations if you are a video creator i'm sure you use those transition effects and the whoosh sounds that come with them so first of all you can get a free library of 30 excellent whoosh samples by going to the link in the description these are wishes that i use all the time for ads trailers and animated explainers so how do we create these wish sounds we take a white noise sound and by layering it with the wind sample and other constant airy noise sounds we get this alright so it's just noise but when we play them together along with the doppler sound effect it sounds like that alright so let's just reduce the track time change the volume automations and we get a nice wash sound now if we add some reverb we get a really nice sound it also always helps to use a compressor to really make the sound shine we have a really cool and easy to understand tutorial on how to use a compressor inside premiere so that's it for this video i hope you find some useful information on how to create the sound of moving objects and how to use the doppler effect to control the sound of passing cars washes and spaceships don't forget to click the like button and subscribe see you next time
