[Music] hi there this is amish from pics and perfect i hope you're having a wonderful day and turning it into a beautiful one today i'm going to share with you how to wrap patterns graphics or images around any object with complex perspectives in photoshop and guess what it is not the vanishing point filter the vanishing point filter is fantastic and it allows you to easily add things in perspective and in fact we have done a video about it which you can check out later however it has one major limitation the biggest limitation of the vanishing point filter is that it does not work with smart object and because of that we cannot create a mock-up with it a mock-up is a template where you can easily move replace update and adjust the design after the fact and in this video we'll learn how to create a product mock-up that involves perspectives and also learn how to keep the design continuous across all surfaces so without any further ado let's get started [Music] back in the mystical world of photoshop but if you want to go ahead and download this photo and follow along you my friend already know what to do check the links in the description the very first thing we'll do here is to measure we'll create the wrapping paper first so to make sure that the wrapping paper doesn't stretch or squish we need to make sure that it's at the right aspect ratio right measurements and so on so with the help of the ruler tool yes there's a two like that click and hold on the eyedropper tool group let's choose the ruler tool and then just make measurements from here to here where there's a fold what is the length in pixels just stretch the ruler at the top you can see l666 you can either keep that in mind or write it down for simplicity and for your understanding i'm gonna make measurements around it let's create a new layer and let's name this measurements now let's take the brush and we know that from here to here let's mark it down it is 666 pixels similarly let's make measurements around these edges as well so from here to here how much is it how do we measure it select the ruler tool again and let's measure it it is around 680 and finally i'm choosing different colors so that you can see what measurements they are okay from here to here how much is it let's quickly measure it now we cannot see the length here how do we see the full picture well let's go to window and make sure info is checked right here you can see everything l is one one three four so let's write it down and there we have the measurements now you might say make sure you missed something and you're very right take a look at this we have not taken measurements from here to here and why didn't we do that because it is at an angle and we cannot take that distance to be accurate for the length of the wrapping paper that goes there why imagine that this is a cube which it already is now the distance from this side to that side we can take that approximately to be the width of that side however the distance from here to there that really cannot be the width of that side it can be similar to this face as well but because it is at an angle it seems a little shorter and that is why it would be absolutely inaccurate to measure that size and go buy it and that is why we have to kind of guess it the next step is creating the wrapping paper or the shapes for the front now what is the front this side this side and this side now these sides will do that later don't worry about it right now so let's draw the shapes according to the measurements so we're gonna take the rectangle tool you can find it right here in the shapes tool group and just click don't drag a rectangle and we know that our first rectangle which is gonna be this one is six six six by one one three four so the width is triple six pixels and height is one one three four hit okay make sure it doesn't have a stroke and you can give it whatever color you want you can double click on the thumbnail and let's choose any color this is just for identification purposes now on top of that we have another rectangle let's place it around that and the other rectangle also has a width of triple six but the height is different it is 680 and give it a different color again just for identification hit okay and place it right here see how we are creating the paper now what about this side you might ask let's just simply make a copy of rectangle one with that selected press ctrl or command j to make a duplicate with the help of the move tool let's move it to the side let's snap it right there and change the color so that it's identifiable let's set it to yellowish that's nice make it a little warmer hit okay color doesn't really matter and we have to guess the length of it so i'm guessing that the side is about two-thirds of the front this is just a guess so press control or command t and simply adjust it we're gonna keep it this way that looks about right the next step is applying perspective warp to wrap it around now before we do that we need to have some reserve for the inside shapes now we have created shapes for the front but for these sides let's just keep some reserve because it would be of the same width so let's make a copy of rectangle one copy sounds weird press ctrl or command j press ctrl or command d and move it right here and give it a different color and this is for reserve so let's give it a magenta-ish color hit okay and separate it from the group and this is just for backup let's turn it on for the moment now let's turn all of these rectangles to a smart object by selecting the first one hold the shift key select the last one everything in line would be selected and then right click on it and then choose convert to smart object and this is for the front now let's go to edit and then perspective warp this is the name of the game simply draw the planes along these surfaces this is our first plane second plane make sure it joins it will light up the edges to show which edges would be connecting and similarly let's do it right here as well now fine tune it zoom in all the way and make sure it is straight on edge let's do it for all the sides now once you're done with it let me give you a tip off the cuff and that is as you're working with perspective warp or vanishing point be prepared for a slight irritation because photoshop has been known to crash but if you're working with these tools so in these scenarios control or command s is going to be your best friend keep on calling your best friend all the time so just before applying perspective press control or command s just after applying it press ctrl or command s really i'm telling you it's going to save you a lot of irritation once you've set the layout click on warp it tells you what you can do and that's exactly what we're going to do but before we do just decrease the opacity so that we can see through and then just adjust the points accordingly that's how we are applying the wrapping paper this is kind of okay to make it even more accurate just zoom in and adjust it now i would want to turn off the measurements but we cannot turn it off unless we have applied it so just simply apply it this is a smart object not an issue turn off the measurements and then double click on perspective warp to get back to it and adjust it let's extend it a little bit on the outside we're going to mask it later anyway we just have to make sure that everything is covered it looks amazing now you can take the time to adjust it even more accurately but it looks good to me hit enter or return and increase the opacity back up to 100. moving on to the next step and that is creating shapes for the insides or these sides how do we do it remember the backup rectangle that we had made so let's turn it on and let's bring it a little bit to the side now there are two folds here this is one fold this is another fold so let's make a copy of this rectangle by holding the alt key or the option key with the move tool just click and drag right here and snap it make sure it is touching the edge change the color to something else let's go with light blue hit okay i'm bringing both a little bit to the left and just so that we don't have any distractions let's turn off the front and we will do the same thing right over here with both of these layers selected select the first one hold the controller command or the shift select the second one right click on it and then choose convert to smart object and then simply apply you already know it perspective warp create the planes and make sure that it is all accurate on all sides so let's close it let's zoom in and adjust it accurately by the way you can also use the navigator to move around have a look at this red boundary that shows which area is zoomed in so you can directly move it right here see how easy was that now we can click on warp and adjust it but i just want to apply it for right now because we want to adjust it with the front turned on so that we can see what's happening so let's turn on the front and then adjust it then let's get back to backup copy or let's rename it to inside and click on perspective warp double click on that and then you can adjust it this is just to make sure that all the gaps are filled and that's why we turned on the front let's decrease the opacity now let's zoom in and make sure all the gaps are filled it looks okay to me once you're satisfied just apply it hit enter or return and then you can increase the opacity and there you go my friend now we're going to remove the excess don't worry about it right now but here we have our wrapping paper wrapped properly the next step is grouping and masking so that everything is cleaned and trimmed properly so select the inside let's collapse that hold the controller command select the front and then press ctrl or command g and just for fun we can name this wrapping paper now we need to remove the excess and for that we have to make a selection of this box and you can make a selection using whatever tool or method you like but in this case for the highest accuracy since this is a product i recommend using the pen tool because you want to make sure that it accurately gets all the folds and the turns and the bends and the creases and everything and if you want to learn how to use the pen tool i highly recommend watching this 30 minute guide on mastering the pen tool and i can guarantee you that by the end of watching this video you will be a master of the pen too now it will require some practice but i can absolutely assure you that you'll be a master now since this is not a lesson on selection i've already made it let me load it by going to select load selection and let's choose box hit ok and with the selection active and the wrapping paper turned on simply click on the mask button everything is trimmed and nice the next step is simple since the blank product is already white whatever you print on it would be darker than that and what's the blend mode which darkens stuff in a smooth gradient multiply so let us change the blend mode of the group to multiply that's it now you might say this is not looking realistic because there are different colors to it once you apply the pattern it will trust me on that for a more realistic approach this step is optional and that is apply blend if double click on the right hand side of the group and take it away from the extreme bright areas now this begins to look okay but it's too harsh so hold the alt k the option key click on the slider to break it apart and take it all the way apart and try to do something like this there you go it gets a little realistic hit okay once you're satisfied now please take a break and get back to it because you might spot a problem that you might not have seen before and i see you on right now have a look see the gap right here we need to fill it so let's open up the group and it was on the inside double click on perspective warp not a big issue fill in the gap that's all moving on to the climax of this lesson and that is applying the design and trust me it is the most simplest part of it now you can apply any design or pattern you want to do it first let's do it to the front double click on the thumbnail of the front and you can group all of these rectangles if you want to so select all of those layers press ctrl or command g and you can place anything over it you can place a pattern if you wish to you can place an image if you wish to that's up to you so i'm just going to place a pattern so let's create a pattern fill adjustment layer and by the way if you're interested in learning how to create a pattern i have a couple videos on that you can check it out links in the description so let's choose this pattern this looks nice and let's decrease the scale to about let's keep it at 20. how do you feel about that now i'm choosing a smaller scale because we need to learn how to keep the design continuous on all surfaces so for now let's keep it that way hit ok you can change the scale according to your taste now we need to only apply it to these shapes so let's turn it on hold the alt key at the option key and click on the line between these two less this creates a clipping mask and limits it only to those shapes press control or command s to save it and once you get back to it have a look at it my friend isn't that fantastic now similarly for the insides you double click on the insides you group it if you want to or you can apply that separately it's all up to you just have to replace all of it now let's create the pattern and we're going to choose the same pattern this one choose the same scale it was 20. and for now just hit ok it might not be continuous hold the alt option key and click on the line between these two lists press ctrl or command s then when you get back to the markup see it's not continuous right there how do you make it that brings us to the next step and that is making the designs continuous let's close the extras and just open the inside separately double click on the thumbnail of the inside this is open separately now we have two documents this is the main one this is for the inside so now go to window arrange and then choose two up vertical have them side by side now just observe what you need to do right here you need to move it a little bit to the right so come back to the inside graphic double click on the symbol of the adjustment layer and then you can directly move it a little bit to the right hit ok press ctrl or command s see if it matches it doesn't we need to move it a little more so move it a little bit more to the right hit ok press control or command s very close let's do it again and there you go my friend we have successfully made it continuous let's close it and there you have our design now this was a complex pattern and that's why i took one more step to make it continuous but if it's something like red color with white hearts on it or just a plain color continuation wouldn't be an issue at all but even that is so easy to do the next step is changing the background color if you wish that's completely optional now you have to make the selection of the background and for that we already have the selection of the object we just have to invert it so hold the controller command click on the mask of the wrapping paper and then create a solid color adjustment layer at the top choose whatever color you wish and now we want the opposite mask so select the mask and then press ctrl or command i now since the background is also already white change the blend mode to multiply and there you have the shadow as well i'm just going to choose a brighter color right here there you go the next step is adding some special effects again it's also absolutely optional so if you do want to add some shine to one of the signs that is possible so create a curves adjustment layer no tutorial is finished without curves you can make the bright areas a little more brighter now select the mask press ctrl or command i take the brush with a large soft brush let's choose the soft round brush white as the foreground color and just dab in right there see that shine now we don't want that shine at the top just to create that crease so you can again take the brush and this time black as the foreground color press x to toggle between the foreground and the background dab once on one end hold the shift key dab once on the other end and there you have created an outline and just fill the top with black so this creates one shiny side and enhances the crease now if you do want to decrease the effect we can decrease the opacity 60 is fine and there you have your design or pattern or image anything you want properly wrap and anytime you want to replace it adjust it or apply something else all you got to do this my friend is a mock-up so you have to just double-click on the front and replace it with whatever you wish so let's say i want a different pattern so let's choose another pattern let's go with this one and set the scale to 20. hit okay hold the alt k the option key click on the line between these two layers press ctrl or command s now when you get back to it looks super cool doesn't it now the edge looks crazy there's a gap right there no problem just open up perspective we did a mistake let's just extend it and fill up the gaps that's one of the challenging things right here let's fill up the gaps right here as well i think everything is all right applied and there you have another pattern right there now for the insights as well we have to do the same thing double click on it and choose the same pattern right here scale would be 20 hit okay and apply it hold the alt k the option key and click on the line between those two layers and then when you get back to the markup there you have it now it won't be aligned you have to take the time to align it and the way to do it is again pretty simple go to window arrange and then to up vertical and then you move it right here and then you simply adjust it that's all so i want this right here hit ok save it it's pretty close it's nearly matched so you can fine tune it as much as you like and my friend we have successfully matched it so that is how to wrap patterns around in perspective with photoshop let's do a quick little recap the very first thing you do is make the measurements and according to these measurements you create the shapes in other words you create the wrapping paper you create the wrapping paper for the front and then the inside using rectangles convert both of them into a smart object then apply perspective warp to properly wrap it around now since this is a smart object you can replace it with anything now you can group it change the blend mode to multiply or whatever suits your situation mask it trim it to whatever you want but that is the main concept behind it you know what i just wanted to go off the video outline and tell you something very special actually i really wanted to tell you how special you are i was looking at my youtube analytics and it seems that in the last five percent of the video only four to six percent people stay so know how special you are to me thank you so much for making till the end of the video and also because you stayed i wanted to give you this mock-up for free so you can experiment with whatever you wish and this link is available only here it won't be available in the description thanks again for watching this video and if this video helped you make sure to give us a like and also don't forget to subscribe and not just subscribe ring the bell so that you my friend don't miss any other feature tips tricks or tutorials i would like to take this moment to thank all these nice and amazing people for supporting this channel on patreon and helping
