How to Build a Wooden Skimboard

hey what's up my name is Adam and in this video I'm gonna teach you how to make a wooden skim board to start off you'll need 2 4 foot by 2 foot by quarter inch sheets of sanded birch plywood water proof wood glue weights a jigsaw an electric sander a router and epoxy resin including gloves glasses cups paper towels and a spreader so step 1 is to glue the two quarter inch sheets together now you want to set them up with boards under the nose and the tail I used a skinny board in the back and the tail and a little thicker in the front to give the nose a little more rocker and then you set it up in this mold with weights which as you can see apply a curve to the board and as the glue dries it'll hold the two sheets in that position so even when someone is standing on it it'll still be raised up in the front and the tail then you want to create your design cut it out and stencil it onto the board take into consideration things such as width length and the tail shape because those will all affect how it rides and then cut it out with a jigsaw so here's what we have so far the next step is to use a router on the rails and this will give the top of the rail a curve and you want to leave the bottom flat and sharp because I don't allow it to hydroplane more effectively then just give it a light little sanding to smooth out any splinters next step is to add any artwork if you wish to do so I use pasta pans which are just acrylic paint markers and we got to work [Music] so here's the artwork came out pretty sick decided to do a koi fish and then the next step is to epoxy the board so you want to mix up your epoxy just follow the instructions with the package and then pour it on there make sure to get it completely covered especially on the rails to keep it watertight and do at least two coats on the bottom to protect from sand or shells I only show the top coat here but you really just have to follow the same process and then let it set in a well-ventilated area and once it's set you can sand it and get a smooth finish and then your board is ready for the water that's it super fun super easy I hope you guys get a chance to make a board and get out there and have some fun on the beach I'll choose break it down the shapes and sizes first ever run first ever [Music] okay now we got wax [Music] my skis but in the black diamond [Music]
