I know it's a matter of discipline. But my morning me is a different me. Morning me doesn't care if waking up early means having sex, getting paid, or having a blast. Morning me tells everyone to go fuck themselves and goes back to sleep. Normal me hates morning me and doesn't understand how morning me is a different person.

As someone who used to have to be at work at 430 AM everyday (hooray for college hours), here are some things that worked for me:

  1. Use sleepyti.me. I was skeptical at first, but even if you screw up the first time given, there are always a few more. They have an app for phones too.

  2. Put your phone/alarm in a lidless container to amplify the sound. If it doesn't wake you up, it should at least wake your wife, your roommate, your kids, or the dead. They'll let you know its time to get up.

  3. If you're like me and took a job requiring early mornings despite being a night-owl, schedule naps. Best thing in the world is a mid-day/early evening couch nap.

I find having my bedstand light on a timer to turn on at 06.00 really helpful as well. Also: not shutting the blinds to the room to let the natural light in.

you you do you feel like every morning you're just rushing to get out the door you feel like you're not accomplishing much as you would like to well it's time you follow the footsteps of some of history's greatest men and become an early riser here's why and how to do it benefit number one increase productivity the world is a much quieter place at 6:00 in the morning the kiddos are probably still asleep and businesses haven't opened yet use this time to get a head start on the day plan out your day work on your side business catch up on emails exercise or take care of those annoying administrative things that tend to get overlooked during the workday benefit number two increased creativity many writers and artists find their most creative first thing in the morning in fact recent research has shown that we're actually more creative when we're a little bit groggy benefit number three decreased stress this can happen in two ways one you get more done during the day with your extra time thereby freeing your mind of psychological clutter the other way waking up early can decrease stress is if you use the early hour to meditate and think you could use the time to flesh out your thoughts in a personal journal or if you're a spiritual person you could use this time for prayer or meditation benefit number four increased Fitness an early-morning workout will leave you feeling full of vim and vigor and ready to take on the rest of the day how to become an early riser go to bed earlier your body needs adequate sleep in order to function on all four cylinders there's no point in waking up an hour earlier if you're going to drag physically and mentally the rest of the day if you're waking up an hour earlier go to bed an hour earlier if your body's used to staying up late so you can watch TV Kimmel go to bed even if you're not tired read until you start to feel sleepy you need to train your mind and body to adjust to your new sleeping schedule start off small if you have a goal of waking up at 5:00 a.m. slowly work to it by waking up just 15 minutes earlier than you usually do stick to the schedule for a few days until your body adjust and then cut back another 15 minutes continue with the cycle until your waking up at 5 a.m. keep your alarm clock far away from your bed if you can touch your alarm clock from the comfort of your bed you'll probably just keep hitting the snooze button put your alarm far enough away that you'll have to get out of bed to turn it off have a routine established if you don't have something to do in the morning with the extra time you have from waking up early you'll find yourself stumbling back to the bed out of boredom establish a morning routine that you start as soon as you wake up it could be as simple as going outside to take a deep breath you just need some action that serves as a trigger to your body in mind that it's officially time to wake up invigorate with cold water if you're groggy in the morning there's nothing like cold water shock the system to feeling bright-eyed and bushy-tailed splash and cold water in your face or better yet take a close hour make a good breakfast perhaps I'm a simple man but I find it easier to get into bed when you're looking forward to eating some delicious grub finally discipline discipline discipline cultivating the habit of waking up early as like forging any other habit it takes discipline and commitment just have to do it if you want extra time to be productive try making the switch to waking up a bit earlier here's to never letting the Sun catch us sleeping
