Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
Absolutely insane quest line. I can't believe Blizzard put this much work into something that only very few people would ever get to experience. This is the kind of magical and mysterious shit that just makes a world feel real.
Also I cannot imagine doing this back in the day with how difficult information was to come by back then. Nowadays it's a lot easier, but knowing all these little details, where to go, what to do, it must've been so confusing for most players. Honestly a shame we can't recreate that part.
I don't care much about the title or the mount but this kind of insane grind really appeals to me.
Hey guys,
Since I released my Onyxia attunment guides, a lot of people have been requesting the Scepter of the Shifting Sands quest in video form. I'm glad to have that here for you today.
Check out the longest and most prestigious quest in WoW history, and hopefully you'll be able to prepare for your own Scarab Lord title come Classic WoW!
Take care, guys.
-Tips
I'm so curious about how this will play out in Classic.
How quickly is the War Effort completed on private servers? I assume that, armed with the knowledge of which materials will be needed, they can complete it immediately upon release.
If a guild can earn its first completed scepter in two weeks, could it theoretically complete another one each week thereafter?
I have had trouble finding information on how quickly the average retail realm opened the gates. The best I've found is a list of the top 5 realms to do so. Judging by those dates, the fastest realm did it in 3 lockouts, but every other realm would have opened it in 4 or more. That's a big difference from the 2 lockouts I'm assuming it takes on private servers.
I have to be honest: one of the only changes I would like to see made to Classic is the material requirements of the War Effort. It just seems like knowing them in advance violates the spirit of the whole event. If it's cut short by guilds farming the materials in advance, not only does it deny a realm a cool moment in time where they can band together (or make some gold) opening the gates, but it restricts the guilds completing scepters moreso than in retail. It seems to me that there aren't many things in Classic that can be metagamed in this way.
It also seems like there is so much potential strategy if you're looking to achieve Scarab Lord yourself. That's the kind of discussion I would love to see on this sub.
I'm going to be crazy and undertake this grueling, immensely long, and just insane questline. I am obviously not going to be able to get the Scarab Lord title, but I just want to be able to experience the gate opening event I never got to see before it got removed permanently in Wrath.
If we're talking about possible changes, Scarab Lord wasnt an actual title until 2.0, right?
I actually got a decent way through this while doing the quest βsoloβ but still not even close. Got the red shard without much issue, got 7/8 draconic books and no where near the remaining shard.
People need to appreciate that even though it will be easier for future scarab lords due to them being able to anticipate the needs of the quest, people who got it back in the day were truly special. The Eranikus fight was basically impossible due to the lag in the zone and needing to protect Eranikus from the shades when everything was lagging and alliance players were dpsing it down. Maws was so far out of the way that it wasnβt as bad but it was still a relatively difficult encounter. Also, by participating in the quest, you basically didnβt get any benefit from the war effort as you didnβt have any time to participate. And to top it all off, unless your guild was really dedicated there was absolutely no incentive for anyone other than you to do any constituent parts of the quest.
Imagine trying to get a raid together when youβre the only person in the guild actively pursuing the quest. βHey guys, do you mind if 40 if you come to this island in the middle of nowhere to kill Doctor Weevil?β Also then go to another island to kill these giant beasts for chops. Also if someone can sell me some arcanite bars for a discount (I just learned I need a shitload) that would be appreciated.
Simply put, unless a large group of people decide to help you and selflessly sacrifice their time and mats and repair costs for you, there is an unequivocal 0% chance you will succeed. Absolutely batty.
It's actually easy to do now, on private servers. The problem is just picking somebody who's going to actually do it on the server, usually the GM of the most hardcore guild. However the quest itself isn't even hard, just clearing a bunch of shit you already clear and no life farming.
Amazing video Tips!!!
