welcome to master boxing my name is coach Eric Riley and like always I'm always trying to give you guys good insight and understanding the sport of boxing from a bird's eye view several things that I wanted to touch on but this key thing is particularly the topic which is understanding how to approach or hire a coach understand how I said hire or coach when you hire a coach that means you're the employer so the first thing that you need to understand is you're the one that should be given the interview not the other way around you are a company yeah you may be a corner store opposed to the company Apple but you are a business and you should take the right Road and finding out the perfect person for you who's going to guide you the right way several things that you may want to ask we want to find out the direction the coach is going to take you why is that because some coaches they're in the game for hustle that give to fight after fight after fight for pennies on the dome for pennies on the coin that that may not be what your dream was your dream maybe position as wanting to be in the lights meaning when you walk in the store like this you want to be on a banner that means you have a vision of seeing yourself in lights it's hard to fight your way to lights you're already big when you step into the game as a laborer or an entrepreneur one guy asks me as a blade what does it take to become a pro I said you just go through the red tape you know the physicals and all the little red tape that they have tied to it it takes nothing if you really want to become a pro anybody can walk in off the street and become a pro more decorated pros are those who have a stellar amateur career and the next level is of course Olympics if you make it to the Olympic status you'd be able to follow it you build a base and you believe credence and you build an audience that's good for business like I said anyone can become a pro but what you want to become as a professional it's the same analogy from a hustler to a businessman these things are important and a lot of guys overlook these things I won't keep you long I just have a couple of things to add on to this a lot of guys don't take the time to write out their questions because they don't understand business they don't understand the business of boxing so you should get a mentor and advisor to guide you on how to ask questions as a business as an entrepreneur so your career will grow and blossom into something not everyone's going to be Floyd Mayweather why because they don't understand business Floyd was blessed to have an Al Heyman in his life in an intricate manner and I out the guide him not only to be an athlete but to be a businessman and someone who was versed in economics our Haman has a economics degree from Yale so that carries on and the manner while Floyd is able to have that huge amount of money delivered to you monthly for the rest of its life because understanding the business at hand is important looking for the big-name coaches there's a couple of things that you have to look out for that first foremost you need to find out how much time would this guy be able to dedicate to you why would I ask that question I'll be in this camp well in order they become better you have to have time dedicated to you there's group training when it comes two gyms and then there's personal training route training most of the time is free and whenever you do pay it's like ten twenty dollars at best personal one-on-one guys make two to three thousand five thousand dollars a session there's a big difference in just being in a camp with a top name coach and being one of the top name coaches fighter so understand finding that type of coach it only puts you in a position where you're in a pack of people that is hard to shine inside of that ring so you got to be careful about doing that you want to find out how much dedicated time with this coach have for you and make sure that you're going to get that time you have a clock you got to put that in your contract and if you can escape the channels and see how many guys out there that are actually great coaches they just don't burst and they don't yearn for the limelight I see several coaches when I'm out here in social media that are doing an amazing job I know their name names are not able Sanchez and Robert Garcia these guys are just they just in the right place where they got the right fighters and the fibers come to them and they want to get you got to be careful about that because that's not great business it only gets you visibly exposed but you have to win and you have to win in a manual fashion instead of being built up you're trying to jump into the limelight just because you're in the limelight does not mean you're making money there are a lot of guys out there with a big name and barely making rent so think about that you can look at guys for an example you got to look at guys like not Sam Richardson no one new young until who officially left the camp and then later on passed away and he was the coach he's the culture but no our Hopkins they're great coaches behind the scenes I no one knew who I was out in social media except for the people that personally know me and if I was across the corner from you but I have been - I have been with 15 champions before any of this started to transpire I took a break I was behind the scene I was behind the front head of the business I did not want my face out there like that you know and that's you got the and you go to my youtube channel or my Facebook page you can it's obvious that I've been in this game and I've been in this game planning at a high level now we're putting it up here on Front Street for you guys to understand how to be businessmen not only just boxers or not even just fight fans some of you have aspirations to become a businessman build your own brand become very successful and these are the steps to do it over here at master boxing we don't just teach boxing we teach you how to become a professional at what you are and what you aspire to be that's kind of what my story is and I'm sticking to it now imagine someone like me this person has the kind of experience that I have not deciding to be on the front line why because I can have success without being out there in front of the camera this was a decorated choice to tell you guys firsthand and bring you guys deeper into the sport of boxing because that's what I feel like my agenda is I didn't force it I just decided it's time start telling people guiding people that's key and that's why I'm doing exactly what I'm doing with you guys you see my post on a consistent basis is because I'm feeding you information a lot of people appreciate whenever they see good information that's not key so whenever you're out there interviewing for coaches take your time you won't find a perfect coach straight out of the gate always have your questionnaire down talk to a lawyer or businessman who understands how to interview use your business and make yourself Apple believe that you can do this thing at a very high level because you can that's all I got for you I hope
