today I'm breaking it all down for you as someone who is a bookkeeper myself hey guys I'm Marissa and welcome back to my channel where we talk about family budgeting and ways that you can budget safe 2023 and I've really enjoyed this extra income source for me and my family I'm a stay-at-home mom and I was looking for something that I could do from home on my own time and own schedule while my kids are asleep and that is when I turn to bookkeeping I have a degree in accounting and have background working in the accounting field but honestly still when I stepped into bookkeeping I still felt this impostor syndrome like I wasn't good enough just because I didn't know what it took to be a bookkeeper and necessarily all the things that would go into being a book bookkeeper and how to use the software but honestly even as I was stepping into the bookkeeping field I still felt like I had a little bit of imposter syndrome like I wasn't cut out for this but now that I have been a bookkeeper for several months let me tell you that you should not feel the impostor syndrome if you have some great organizational and communication skills and an interest in Money Management you can learn how to do the task as a bookkeeper and launch your own bookkeeping business and also if you missed it my friend and former work colleague Andrew Brown who is a CPA and I recently launched a bookkeeping known when we were launching our own businesses so let's talk about how to become a bookkeeper so the first thing that you need to become a bookkeeper is just some basic skills like I mentioned you do not need to be an accountant to be a bookkeeper but you do need to have some basic skills like being organized having good communication and also having an interest in Money Management because you will not like doing this job if you do not like to manage money now when you think of launching your own business you probably are thinking of how much is going to cost to get this started so let me tell you the expenses you can expect when you are a bookkeeper first off you need a computer you need to be able to access the internet so if you have a computer great cross that off your list you don't need to get that and also internet access which hopefully you probably already have so if you have those two things you like squared away another thing that you can do as a bookkeeper is get an airs and Emissions insurance for your business that you can have just in case to protect yourself you could also register your business to become official and that has a small fee depending on your state but it may be under $100 and lastly you'll need that education piece to learn how to be a bookkeeper and that is what we are offering with our course Next Level bookkeeper which again you can check out with the link down in the description box below what I love about bookkeeping is that there are very very few expenses that you need to have and so you can just make great money from your clients and pay your few expenses and take the rest home for yourself the next thing you need is to learn how to do the tasks of a bookkeeper as a bookkeeper what you are providing for your clients is timely and accurate monthly financial statements and you do this by managing finances throughout the month doing things like categorizing income and expenses sending invoices to clients to be paid as well as paying bills for that small business and when you can categorize all of these things and bring them all together you can create these financial statements that you can provide to your client but if you haven't done this before you probably need to take the time to learn how to do these tasks as a bookkeeper which again we walk you through in our course Next Level bookkeeper you also need to learn how to use a bookkeeping software like QuickBooks online when I started my bookkeeping business I had experience in accounting but it used different softwares and so this was my first time using QuickBooks online and I was just trying to figure it out as I went which it is really intuitive and because I had some background in accounting that made it easier for me to navigate the platform and learn as I went but there were still some things that were a little clunky and things that I had to reach out to support for for help in our next level bookkeeper course we walk you through some QuickBooks tutorials to show you how to do basic bookkeeper tasks in QuickBooks Online the reason why we chose QuickBooks Online is because it's most frequently used by clients for both myself and my friend Andrew we have taken on bookkeeping clients who were already using QuickBooks online and then I've also set up an additional client by by using QuickBooks Online when they weren't using any other platform to begin with so we want to show you how to use this platform because it's likely that you'll be using this platform if you become a bookkeeper and launch your bookkeeping business the great thing about QuickBooks Online is that it's also very intuitive and pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it and they have a lot of help and support and articles related that you can navigate once you understand the basics of how it to use the platform and another thing you need to do to become a bookkeeper is price your services and find clients bookkeepers can make between $30 to $50 an hour depending on your level of experience and the tasks that you will be completing for your client as a bookkeeper myself I make at the high end of that range and my friend Andrew who is a CPA makes more than that because of his extra credentials if you're just getting started it's okay to be on that lower end of the range and work your way up as you gain more experience and take on additional clients you'll also need to find clients and when I was launching my bookkeeping business this is what felt so intimidating because I did didn't know how to get started but once I got my first client I realized that it actually really is attainable to find clients for your bookkeeping business bookkeepers are such a needed service because all small businesses need to track their income and expenses for IRS purposes and also for the purpose of making ongoing business decisions bookkeepers were needed decades ago and they're still needed today and that's what I love about this field is that it is so needed and also established I currently have just two bookkeeping clients because I'm also a stay-at-home mom and I run my social media business here and so I just don't have as much capacity in my schedule right now to add additional clients but what I love is that I could totally add more clients if I wanted to and if I had the time since sharing that I am a bookkeeper I've had dozens of people reach out to me asking if I would do their books and I'm so flattered but I just simply don't have the time in my schedule but I share all of this to say that bookkeeping is such a needed field and of course Andrew and I share how to price your services based on being a a valuable bookkeeper rather than just a task-based bookkeeper in our course and we're also going to give you some great tips and places to start with how to find clients I know bookkeeping isn't the most like sexy job out there but I love that it is just reliable consistent income that I can do from home on my own time last night I was doing some bookkeeping tasks while on my computer and watching Love is Blind and eating ice cream after my kids went to bed and that is the beauty of
