a couple of years ago when i was in film class the mandalorian had just come out a fresh interesting take on the star wars ip about this cool boba fett looking guy running around the galaxy meeting rivals collecting bounties and finding new allies i was talking about the episode with a friend then suddenly my film teacher rocked up and said that show really takes me off the main guy is meant to be boba fett but he's not he's just some random guy they just don't want to pay the guy who made boba fett royalties because they don't want to give us a boba fett show which you know is what we want dr president that teacher is presumably jumping for joy because he got his boba fett show finally after all these years but subsequently that teacher is crying himself to sleep and peering dangerously over his balcony because spoiler alert like a panther yes it sucks plus i think he's got a kid now let's start this video by getting some stuff out of the way if you clicked on this video expecting a non-cohesive rant lacking in substance and filled to the brim with hyperbole and fear mongering then this isn't the video for you and if you clicked on this expecting a teardown of boba fett fans of the character himself then i have to question why you clicked on a video titled the death of boba fett despite the reputation of the character and what he's so commonly associated with i really really like boba fett when you think star wars he's probably one of the first things that comes to mind when imagining the franchise's evocative imagery as synonymous with the name as stormtroopers darth vader and any other of the countless things from that franchise that has now become iconic he's a character that has stuck around and been an icon for so long but unlike darth vader or even the stormtroopers to an extent boba has never been known for his role in the story he's more of a prop than anything but one that radiates a certain energy that makes you go crazy at the sight of him begging to see more and more of him people certainly wanted a show centered around a cool looking bounty hunter running around the galaxy seemed like a match made in heaven but in case you're not picking up what i'm putting down that is most definitely not what we got find other banters make baby banthas book of boba is genuinely one of the worst pieces of star wars media i've ever seen depending on whatever comes to your mind when i put wurst and star wars together you might think that this is me exaggerating to try and bait people into clicking on this video and engaging in some kind of way but no no not true book of boba is visually unappealing has an incredibly boring and all over the place story pointless cameo references galore lazy writing and worst of all it drags such an iconic star wars character through the mud to what came out barely resembled what came before i have a lot to say about this show but it's really this aspect i want to home in on boba was a character whose appearances were few and far between and who mainly gathered his reputation through the imaginations of fans but despite this there was a character that was set up in the original movies and for our other stuff that wasn't books or comics that showed the kind of man he was mandalorian season 2 being an example boba was cold and ruthless in that show threatening to kill a kid in exchange for his armor barrelling through stormtroopers and threatening those that undermined his presence and reputation i've heard a lot of the defenders of the show saying that boba was always incompetent and that what people viewed him to be was all down to interpretation or external material the end of the day holds no bearing on proper star wars productions boba's last cinematic appearance was him infamously [ __ ] up and landing in a sarlacc pit to be digested over a thousand years followed by a comedic burp and a feeling of anti-climax so is it really that hard to believe that seven years later boba still has that goofiness we saw in that one scene in return the jedi the answer is no if that's to be believed then why was boba's appearance in mandalorian season two catering to that portrayal that has dominated the pop cultural zeitgeist since the character's inception because the [ __ ] that was willing to kill a kid if he didn't get his way the one-man army that brutally worked his way through stormtroopers even without his armor and the guy that was aggressive around people that disrespected him is not the man who let himself repeatedly get duped pushed around beaten up by kids and routinely defeated by people way below his skill set a vehicle lump of incompetence and ineptitude i'd like to point out though to the people rolling their eyes at that statement that i am aware of the show's messaging and intent or at least what people claim its meaning is the show is meant to be a complete reinvention of the boba fett character and explore fed's desire to shed his dishonorable past and come back as something that is more to his own taste and ambition but i don't believe that it is well realized at all i think every turn the show makes to try and explore this subject goes against the fundamentals of boba's character the show's own internal consistency and what people assume to be powerful moments of visual storytelling are clumsy unearned and low-key reaching on the part of the audience and that's when the show is actually trying to explore boba and not his new replacement that is now dominating the idea that boba used to represent when boba was originally conceptualized for the empire strikes back he was designed from the mould of something else an imperial supercommando a design originally intended to be in the dozens an elite unit decked out with high-tech weaponry but in the interest of cutting costs the supercommando idea was scrapped and all that was left was the single prototype suit made as a proof of concept the suit was given a new red and green paint job a dent here and insignia there and what was once an elite soldier made as an extension of the empire became a bounty hunter independence of any faction somebody who would go through any means and do any job to get his pay the character was hyped up before his eventual appearance in empire strikes back with parade appearances toy tie-ins and animated debuts to hype him up people really latched themselves onto boba before and after he arrives to the big screen that decked out armor the wear and cracks and the paint the imperfections of the suit the trophies of former bounties adorning his armor the subdued body language and the jingle jangle of spirits all combined to create this image of a man with no name bounty hunter who was a professional killer and had a story behind that t-visor if you're like me and watch anything to do with the mandalorian the bet is nine out of ten times the person narrating will bring up how boba fett started the mandalorian mythology and yes it's cheesy and yes it's overdone but it's true oh yes yes yes the whole premise of the mandalorian spun off of boba's foundation his look that armor that insignia something about it stood out to people and led many to believe that there was more of a story than simply it's the helmet boba wears no no no the mandalorians are an ancient creative warriors who adorn themselves in armor specific to their people taking up various roles as soldiers peacekeepers terrorists and bounty hunters boba's story was expanded to be much more all-encompassing later down the road he was retconned to be the clone of a man named django fair one and a literal million involved in some big grand conspiracy plot but regardless of whatever background he had prior to the original films or wherever his armor was from he was still recognizable as the man with no name space cowboy who stood like a statue talked with confidence sliminess and bravado and was above all ruthless and determined boba holds a lot of significance in the eyes of star wars fans both as a character but also as a concept the mandalorians are offshoots of what fans perceived well to be some thought of him as a man of honor or an anti-hero or just simply a ruthless bounty hunter out for a quick buck through this culture there were many opportunities to spin off the character without having his mistake be compromised enter [Music] it's no secret that the mandalorian borrowed a lot from boba for starters his armor but also his general character description mando was introduced as a man with no name space samurai and yes i'm aware that he's a bit of a cowboy but this is going to be brought up later so who establishes himself as a cold and ruthless hunter who does what he can to fulfill the needs of a client not asking questions not compromising and not pulling his punches when creating the mandalorian day filoni and john favreau describe the show as their big brother taking all the cool star wars toys away leaving behind only the lamest star wars characters but somehow they get left with a boba fett figure that they painted silver and let their imaginations run away with them and when you put it like that it's easier to see how mando ended up who he is as much of a dumb take as it was my film teacher was in ways correct mando was a poor man's boba fett ig-11 is the poor man's ig-88 even the empire is all scuffed up and worn down like you just fished these action figures from a storm drain and now you're trying to find some way to justify it mando is boba but changed slightly he's more honorable less skilled he doesn't so much fight for himself but fight for his creed that had raised him since he was a child he's definitely immoral in some ways though bringing in targets to meet an unknown fate at the hands of a random client with no context doesn't exactly scream noble but he has a capacity to connect and a backstory that justifies him straying from that purpose but uh-oh i've pulled the book of boba and have taken the focus away from this video's purpose to talk about something else however can i go back to what i was talking about before boom nando season two if season 1 was being left with the toys your older brother didn't want then season 2 was your older brother leaving for college and passing his old toys down to you you get some more stormtroopers newer and cooler looking mandalorians fan favorite star wars characters you get an r2d2 a luke skywalker and of course your brother's original boba fett toy as i mentioned at the beginning boba's portrayal was pretty on point for how he should function he was ruthless he was threatening he didn't hold back his punches brutalizing stormtroopers and using all of his armor's functions to their highest utilities the fans have wanted to see fully realized in live action since his debut in the empire strikes back bash bank [ __ ] was so cool about the time there was some cynicism surrounding him mostly by me for one boba having a face in temera morrison which while logical does contradict an aspect of his character but again we'll get to that i wasn't crazy about the new black robes and paint job he didn't really serve much of a purpose he was more of a taxi than a cool space cowboy but there are some really good moments in there if i'm using any boba fett footage chances are it's from nando season 2 as it's undeniably the place he was best represented in anything live action that little tease at the end of mando season 2 made me interested in where they'd go of his character he rocks out to jabba's palace kills everyone in sight silently walks up to bib fortuna and while he's trying to explain himself boba kills him in cold bloods in his sentence disrespectfully shoving the corpse of the throne and sits on it with his executioner by his side all to set up [Music] but alas despite the cool opening and the interesting premise the show we got failed to deliver i think i swallowed it remember the toy metaphor the big brother leaving you all his cool toys when he went to college well that older brother was a bit of a sadist and like to put some of those toys under a magnifying glass on a hot summer's day to satiate some sick desire such was the case with boba fett at first you don't notice that you're just kind of starstruck that you even have him again but now the new shoe smell was fading and you start to notice that he's a bit bloated and weird looking and it just doesn't hit the same anymore book of boba is warped toy boba fett that is to say he's not boba fett which is the same line i've dealt out about five times already so let's get down to brass tacks in the interest of not being a broken record and getting somewhere without repeating the same few sentences i think i'm gonna need some structure to try and tackle this because i've gone through about five drafts so far and all of them have fallen victim to not being organized enough first of all who is bow with her in the show what is his story chronologically booker boba starts with him leaving the sarlacc pit sticking his flamethrower in there and barely crawling out he passes out for a while gets his armor stolen by jawas some tuscan raiders find him they take him captive beat the [ __ ] out of him time up do want him to count your buns then he learns to be part of their tribe he trains with them has a spirit journey becomes a sandman predictably they all die some boring [ __ ] happens who cares [ __ ] you disney it's the slave one not the fire spray he gets his armor back then he kills big fortuna takes the throne as the new crime boss and that's where we are in the book of boba boba fett becomes the kingpin of crime in tatooine which is definitely an interesting place for the character to go from being a ruthless bounty hunter out for himself taking jobs from powerful people to now being the person in power with the roles reversed although to be honest even during the initial teaser for boca boba i was never really sold on the whole crime boss thing for me boba was always a space cowboy a cool bouncy hunter guy that didn't really have many goals outside of getting his paycheck and finding his next mark but this presented an interesting opportunity for that reinvention thing i mentioned before buba had come back from a near-death experience which should change his perspective from before right well no discussing why berber's change of heart seems so out of left field first requires you to examine who he was before the original movies didn't really show much in regard to boba himself he was created with the mindset of being a cool bounty hunter to have capture han solo but moments in both empire strikes back and return the jedi build towards some kind of characterization when boba is first introduced vader orders no disintegration he's ruthless this shows that he has a history of taking in his targets cold he's a sheep first asked questions lighter kind of guy and the as you wish afterwards shows that he's confident enough to be sarcastic with darth vader of all people vader tortures kills his own men and is shown multiple times to be uncompromising in who he inflicts violence on and here boba is being sarcastic with him begrudgingly agreeing to go along with his orders to get the job done later on in the movie boba gets invader's face again to [ __ ] about his arrangement with the empire and how it could potentially [ __ ] up his deal with jabba what if he doesn't survive he's worth a lot to me people defending boko bova often used the defense that before having his little spiritual baptism by sirac boba was a warrior at the beck and call of others that he never really decided his own fate and instead only went along with whatever is laid out for him whether it be clients or even his own dad as cool as boba fett seems an empire strikes back he acquiesces to vader's orders vader says no disintegrations and boba fett's first line is obeying an order as you wish in the carbon freezing sorry to cut this idiot off but that point is ridiculous this makes out that boba's control and assertiveness was limited and that he bent the knee and followed orders without protest repeatedly which yeah he kind of did but boba isn't the warrior in the tuscan tribe that this guy claims he is the tuscan warrior is another reflection of who boba fett has been strong stoic and ready to attack the second the leader gives the nod when boba fett tries to escape the warrior waits until the leader commands them to act boba didn't wait to act he just did vader never ordered boba to engage with luke on bespin jabba never demanded that boba leapt into the fray this tuscan warrior guys at the beck and call of the leader because that's who the tuscans have allegiance to it's their culture it's their way but that doesn't really apply to boba because he doesn't have allegiance to anyone i give my allegiance to no one yeah boob is a bounty hunter he didn't play politics nothing he did was out of vendetta or obligation beyond his simple contracts he's not like the mandalorian he's not bound by creed or duty or anything boba works by commission if he didn't like something he'd get mouthy with his employers and sorry to say mate but again boba was most definitely not any back and core he didn't wait for the command to get into the thick of it he just did it only being stopped before he acted on his impulse by whatever client which to my mind is not the same thing as waiting for the command to start doing something star wars explained has perhaps been one of the worst defenders of this show if you don't know who they are it's not important there are sure that have made a plethora of dumb points about the show mainly in relation to boba's arc throughout the first few episodes of the show we get these annoying back to flashbacks showing boba's journey from his childhood to the events of mando season 2. the thing that caught my attention was the focus put onto boba's dad and how django's death has impacted boba that's cool but what's the subtext what's the show trying to convey through django well flashback to the sarlacc and boba's near-death experience boba almost died in the belly of some weird sand monster where he would have most likely been digested and forgotten like that poor stormtrooper if he had died there his end would have been very similar to his father's i think boba learned then that it doesn't matter if you're the best of the best whether you're django or boba the violent life of a bounty hunter whose primary concern is power notoriety and wealth for his or herself will eventually lead to dying alone in the dirt okay so basically the point being made here is that django is a cautionary tale for boba that a life of bounty hunting will result in you being killed and left for dead and that boba in his new life as kingpin a tatooine is trying to avoid that cycle and carve out a new life for himself which is not a reach surprisingly the show very clearly leans into that django is shown dead in the desert with boba's reflection in his visor boba in his later life almost dies in the desert and fennick very nearly also dies in the same setting three bounty hunters all sharing or are close to sharing the exact same fate boba himself even draws the comparison left for dead on the sands of tatwin like you the issue here is the same issue as before people vastly overestimate or underestimate his position as a bounty hunter taking it to mean he was begrudgingly following the orders of people higher than him which if you really want to stretch it he kind of was he takes up a job does what the client says brings them in and collects his reward but for one he wasn't doing this [ __ ] by force he works by commission if boba didn't want to do something he could just not do it boba isn't bound by honor or creed to be a hunter it was his choice boba being left for dead is a ridiculous term used to try and describe his situation imagine you're some space gangster working for jabba the hutt you're in some weird battle where people are getting smoked left and right a literal jedi starts cutting through people then you see some mercenary your boss hired leap into the fray gets his jet pack busted and falls into the mouth with some sand creature then the vargeron blows up why would you ever go back for that guy why would he even assume he's alive in the first place he fell in the mouth of some death creature i'm gonna kill that bloated pig who double-crossed me how was it in any way before gina's fault or even jabba for that matter no one told you to jump into the fray the only one to blame for putting you in the pit is yourself in fact let's tie into the point about django and fennec and even cad bane at the end the point star was explained and the show is trying to get across is that bounty hunting is a profession that all leads to the same end point jango was a bounty hunter and died in the desert with nothing to his name fenik the same and being the same it's all very heavy-handed but the problem with all these guys and boba is that they're all guilty of their own misfortunes so for django fair you're in this big arena right there are experienced jedi masters running around like 200 of them you fly down the middle of the action spend your time fighting some bull thing get your jet pack busted start shooting at a jedi and get your head caught what was stopping him from just staying on that balcony he wasn't paid or instructed to join that fight how was his death in any way count dooku's fault how does boba fett rationalize all the misfortunes he and other bounty hunters face is the fault of their employers they had the right to turn down jobs they had no loyalty to anyone and nobody forced them to do things that were above their pay grade it just feels like the show is ignoring pivotal context that its whole subtext relies upon boba's reasoning for wanting to steer away himself and others from the life of bounty hunter feels at best stupid and at worst hypocritical the show just kind of pick and chooses what aspects of boba's past they want to inform this new way different boba fett django being an example boba fett being re-contextualized to be a clone was a big turn off for a lot of older star wars fans prior to the prequels boba had this whole story carved out for him through the expanded universe then attack of the clones came along and it was revealed that boba was just a copy of another character django fat in shiny chrome and blue armor with two pistols and a cool performance from tim ware and morrison boba now had a face a family a definitive past and arguably a much lessened mystique personally as someone who grew up with boba always being a clone i always found this recontextualization made his character better i knew why he did what he did and having insight into his childhood shines a light on the kind of man he became but at the same time it makes stuff way more convoluted now boba has to have this zigzag arc to become the ruthless hunter we see in the movies one minute being very hesitant and not ready to adopt the life of bounty hunter prioritizing honor to the next being the leader of his own crew and deliberately performing a moral and dishonorable acts book of boba is no exception the show seems pretty confused on how it wants this legacy to be presented whenever django is shown a reference it's usually in a context that isn't particularly flattering we've gone over how his death is meant to be a cautionary tale to boba about how the life of bounty hunting can have you wind up dead in the desert would no power to your name but at numerous points the show alludes to boba harboring some kind of resentment or cynicism towards his father one of the first flashbacks we see is a young boba watching his dad take off in the slave one leaving him alone much like how he was left on geonosis at a later point in the show we see boba on some spirit quest where he encounters a tree in the middle of the dune sea symbolizing his family ties with django his status as a bounty hunter and everything else tying him down the symbol of his past that jango forced upon boba that shaped him into the man he became django definitely raised boba to be a bounty hunter i'm not denying that but i do think the statement that boba is breaking away from django is kind of ridiculous i mean did any of these guys watch mando season 2 because this bold [ __ ] brings up his dead dad countless times like my father before me my father jangle my father jungle fed the sama belonged to my father don't you mean your donor you're out of your league princess he claims the armor is a birthright he starts a fight with somebody who disrespects his dad's legacy i don't believe that he broke his ties with him he very clearly still harbors a lot of respect and identity from django still but don't tell that to me what this idiot says the identity that was chosen for him because that's just not true even though django and boba shared the same last name voice and appearance i never saw them as anywhere close to the same character django is pretty polite when talking to people his armor is shiny and well maintained and bouncy hunting seems like something he pursues as a means to an end instead of a quick and easy way to make money also django is a mandalorian while not completely noble he certainly has a code boba on the other hand doesn't boba's armor isn't shiny and well maintained it's all [ __ ] up and adorned with trophies whenever boba talks he speaks far more sinister without any pretense of politeness django stands in the background as a hired piece of muscle but boba commands the room just comparing their voices you can see a difference i hate to admit it but you're worth more alive satisfactory but not sufficient don't get in my way disintegrations are more fun i'm gonna fill your lungs with fire django's dialogue is super straight to the point and poised boba sounds far more sadistic like his dreamworks smoking underneath that helmet when he's saying these things whenever i've used a clip from any of these movies you probably caught on that this put captain solo in the cargo hold is not tim ware morrison jason wingreen captures the kind of character george lucas wanted boba to be when it came to the redemption for the special editions it came across that temura was asked to play the character as he would django as the vocal inflections are basically the exact same as you wish do you like your army he sounds too polite boba was a professional for sure but this wasn't something that made him strive for client satisfaction you don't keep the scalps of bounties as trophies if you're approaching this like a business win green was slimy giving a subtle hiss whenever he pronounced an s whenever he did speak he did it in a way that was rude and begrudging which django evidently was not he cared about the needs of a client this is all to say that yes boba was unique he had his own identity separate from his dad this little gesture of trying to break from those roots is ridiculous because he already did that the moment he painted over his dad's armor one thing booker boba massively fails to deliver on is boba's intimidation i said earlier that when boba was on screen he owned the room which of course the book of boba neglects to capture you could just chuck this up to him having more screen time unless there's more and all that but i don't chalk up to that flashback to empire strikes back boba shows up he sounds like a statue he speaks like a snake and whenever he takes a step you hear those spurs jingling bobo was cool not because of his rarity but because of what he expresses in the time that he's shown the term most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy is never uttered in the movies we're never told of boba's reputation but we can feel it vader says no disintegration so we know he's ruthless he never talks unless he has to and each movement is slow and deliberate boba owes a lot of his success to his physical actor jeremy bullock star wars has multiple actors that never get the praise they deserve yet the characters they play have become huge stables of pop culture chewbacca r2 darth vader all wouldn't be the characters they are without the actors there to bring these movements to life boba fett's actor understood what boba was a space bounty hunter inspired by westerns and one thing you notice in west jones with cool characters is that they almost never move they often stay in place with only slight movements to show how badass and in control they are every bit of movement from boba has become a staple for the character the weird way he holds his gun the nod that slow and steady walk all combines to create a portrait of a character jeremy bullock is a small and skinny guy yet he's able to stand on equal footing with characters like darth vader just because the way he looks and acts commands authority and intimidation like when he gives that look to lando that says don't cross me also the way he's filmed helps too if you see a set photo of boba it's easy to see the imperfections in the suit this is from empire and there's boba fett on set with his knee pads on upside down and his trousers rolled up if filmed the right way you can make anything look cool which surprise surprise booker boba doesn't much like to do some shorts look cool and get across the boba is a figure worth respecting and fearing buffers are done so flat that he just looks goofy and lame i titled the video the death of boba fett because every part of the character that made him cool has been stripped away boba has no physicality he has no presence when i see boba walk into a room i don't get the same feeling i do when i watch the empire strikes back which you could argue was a take tainted by a nostalgia but this bald-headed [ __ ] reminds me less of that suave slimy bounty hunter who doesn't pull his punches and more of those mandalorian cosplayers you'll see walking around at star wars celebration tatooine sucks the show ruined that whole location for me but that's another point entirely the thing is tatooine's harsh suns and how popping wood light it is doesn't match well with boba's costume it's dark and has muted colors which when matched with a setting so bursting with natural light looks cheap and impractical the worst looking episode of the mandalorian is ironically the very episode boba was first introduced in when watching that episode the nagging thought i kept having was how much the episode looked like a fan film the costumes looked cheaper the cinematography was less impactful and all in all the show didn't live up to the standard equality it had established and wouldn't you know it the director of that episode headed many episodes of book of boba sheep lame bad jesus christ sorry i uh veered a little off topic there allow me to get back on track [Music] superhero movies nowadays have a big problem constantly having their characters remove their masks for the purpose of showing the actors acting which is understandable you want to utilize your talent and there's a time and a place for it people can complain about three spideys constantly removing their masks but would it have been anywhere near as cool if you didn't see all three actors physically bounce off one another the answer is no but book of boba is a prime example of why this practice is starting to hurt certain types of media a big proponent of boba's intimidation was that mandalorian helmet that thing told a story and behind that t-visor you had no idea what he was feeling the helmet was his face a trait that has been adopted by his successor where the show is reliant on subtle gestures voice inflections and methods of filming to convey emotion that would otherwise be hidden behind that buckethead whether it be because they didn't want to rip off a trait of their golden boy or because they wanted to utilize their actor i leave up to your own discretion but i think boba constantly revealing his face ruins his intimidation and presence as a character even though attack of the clones showed that boba was a copy of his father django i never felt that the two would be identical under the helmet django was a proud mandalorian who went by codes and ideals but if boba's armor is any indication he didn't give a [ __ ] about tradition the face under that helmet had a general skeleton but there was nothing concrete and frankly i wouldn't even want to know that helmet is his face and inevitably by removing it you're changing the way you view a character the mandalorian did this in instances of vulnerability and given the character-focused nature of that story as well as its subtext it works with booker boba not only does it taint his character but it's also not an aid of the story it's trying to tell book of boba's best moment was in episode 2 when he confronted the hutts as it's the only part of the show that lives up to its premise of boba fett trying to cope as a crime lord him wearing the helmet throughout definitely does a lot to help so that he's an intimidating figure worthy of respect and not underestimating he maintains that bounty hunter bravado in his stance and even his speech starts to mirror that slimy inflection jason wingreen had your cousin jabber is dead his cowardly major domo usurped his territory and then i killed him the scene's purpose is meant to illustrate boba's change from the stars of his predecessors he owns that confrontation by not showing his face and establishing his unwillingness to back down unfortunately that doesn't last immediately afterwards boba removes his helmet and that brief moment of respect flicked away when you can't see boba's face you can't read how he's feeling he feels less like a man and more of a symbol would boba and empire strikes back be anywhere near as intimidating if he had his helmet off to show a pissed off baltimore morrison the answer is no the helmet says so much was so little and look i get it boba wants to rule with respect and not fear it's stupid but i get it boba doesn't want to rely on intimidation and threats to get what he wants as he values respect and admiration above making those below him afraid like those stupid tuscan guys i understand you star was explained boba wants his tribe once again however boba is in the head of a small group of tribals in the middle of a desert he's the head of a major crime syndicate and that world does not exactly mix with an altruistic and noble leader boba does not lead with the respect of his peers he leads by being pushed around buying off competition and just general incompetence the first episode shows bober facing a failed assassination attempt he gets his ass kicked and humiliated he finds out the organizer of the attack came from a powerful political figure who outwardly disrespects boba's authority and at numerous points boba lets him off with second chance after second chance never putting his foot down under certain dominance so predictably it comes back to by enemy ass boba goes at war with a rival crime syndicate selling drugs in his territory instead of trying to start compromise with the group and incorporating them into his own business bubba decides it's instead the wiser choice to wage a completely unjust war on them he assembles the crime families under him who all outwardly disrespect his authority as well when given a moment of intimidation where the family starts to acknowledge his authority it's immediately deflated by boba himself who then makes the offer of bending the knee and asking the families under him to not interfere in his war with the pikes despite directly going against their own self-interest and wouldn't you know it it comes back to bite him boba offers nothing as a crime lord of tatooine i know that tatooine got kind of a glow-up in this series but in everything else the planet has never been anything more than a rock thriving with slavery crime and creatures locals and tribals that are a constant threat one minute you're farming the next year being brutalized and killed by some savage tribe tatooine's only allure was being a hub for crime syndicates in their businesses boba taking away that industry and the people that run it for one presents no appeal to the people under him if you're a crime lord lords lieutenant looking to make more money why would you have respect for your boss when he's taking your business away secondly where do you think all these lush clubs and [ __ ] are coming from tatooine runs off of crime it's where all its profit comes from which even fennec directly points out there's a lot of credits to be made from that orange powder spice is killing our people yeah hurting the people a couple of guys transporting [ __ ] in the desert sure is hurting the people but riding a big [ __ ] off rancor that's destroying homes or to fight a non-threat isn't hurting the people laying this powerful gang of armed criminals with the intention of war into a city with indestructible death robots is way better than a couple of people becoming addicts nobody should be bowing to this [ __ ] he hasn't done anything to be worthy of respect booba preaches the value of loyalty but aside from fennick nobody has loyalty to him and those that do suffer for it that rhodian guy had loyalty to the tuscans and he got killed by a sand monster and nobody cared those pig guards were forced into loyalty by bob under fret of death and they were the only ones to be killed in that final battle those stupid cyber funk guys didn't fight for boba out of respect or loyalty they were paid this philosophy of turning the other cheek and paying off opposition just makes him look weak and unable to fight his own battles fenik constantly gives boba great advice that would have resolved most of the conflicts he ends up facing but he instead ignores it and gets himself into more and more trouble i said this at the beginning but i cannot stress enough how this is not the same character as before he's constantly belittled beaten and humiliated the boba fett who killed somebody in cold blood taking his throne and disrespectfully shoving his corpse off of it is not the same boba as the one who's too scared to kill anyone who threatens his power until it's too late boba never waited for an order to engage he just did he never cared about or played politics he just did whatever was in his own self-interest in the very same show this is a direct spin-off for fed with brutalizing threats and threatening those that undermined his authority and reputation people say that star wars fans created this perception of phet being an unstoppable force of nature but the mandalorian established that that character was very much who he was but now his traits are being undermined suppressed or pushed out to make way for the character that took his place the mandalorian is what boba fett was a ruthless hunter out for self-interest doing whatever he needed to do from money not asking questions and not contemplating the morality of his actions i've seen the argument made that everything bobof was has been put into mando or other characters so having boba maintain his original personality and purpose would be redundant seeing as those traits are the same as the mandalorians ruthless bounty hunter and mandalorian armor i get the idea one thing they're ignoring though is the two have very clear differences that set themselves apart from one another if the only words that come to your head when you think of their characters are bouncy hunter and ruthless then you're ignoring everything that makes them who they are the mandalorian is a samurai a warrior bound by a creed and loyalty to a makeshift family an ideology and that code informs everything he does he is noble he's honorable that paycheck isn't just to support himself it's to support his tribe boba fett isn't bound by honor aura code he's driven by pay boba didn't have a greater purpose for people he needed to support he was only in it for himself he was a man with no name cowboy drifting from place to place nowhere to call his home with no goal but the hunt talking even about their use of music shows the vast difference in their characters the mandalorian is a ronin the theme wanders from lows to highs demonstrating the conflict of his morality and path in life with the use of instruments and patterns taking cue from eastern influences boba is a predator on the hunt his mandalorian theme is aggressive with the pants of a beast who came back from a long rest eager for a hunt with focus placed on each of the instruments giving each movement such emphasis and power i'm not a music guy at all and i wouldn't be able to decipher any of the hieroglyphics on a music sheet but even i can tell and notice the difference between mando's very tame and honorable theme compared against boba's consisting of animal noises and powerful instruments the two have very different ideals and methods and booker boben not capitalizing what makes him unique makes for such a boring main character i'll take the space cowboy who walks in the bars of a poncho and makes the room go quiet with every step of his spurs then some baldy who constantly bends the knee and can't even intimidate an unimposing mare i understand the need to change up his character if you almost die in a giant sand pit it tends to change your perspective but it's unrealistic that this baptism by sora like makes his character do a complete 180. the boba fett i knew would have been lashing at his restraints like a one animal left that rhodium for dead and wouldn't have been so easily strung along and beaten by a couple of tuscans making him a nice guy does nothing to differentiate him fermando let's say a mandalorian season 2 boba is introduced much earlier on and becomes a co-lead to mando one left bounty hunting behind in the pursuit of something more noble whereas the other is clinging on to his father's armor still unable to hang on to a code or principles one guy shoots and kills the other guy beats stormtroopers to death and makes each fighter hunt with the two clashing heads on their codes and ideologies showing the divide between the old and the new with boba being a dark reflection of what dingiaran could become leading to a show where you get to see fair act completely counter to his newer shinier counterpart but no instead we get this boring ass boba fett in this one shitty location that looks like ship and adds some of the most laughable and tone definitions to star wars in the last few years that was so boring that the best episodes didn't involve them at all and were instead parts of his successes show which were some of the best episodes of the mandalorian but imagine you are watching the punisher in midway through the season you get two episodes of daredevil church trying to recover from the events of the defenders to set up his own third season i understand you have your new boba fett already but want to capture the market of people like my old film teacher by bringing back this nostalgic character and you also want to market what is essentially a new character to a new generation of star wars fans but boba fett is a villain he's a bounty hunter he's a scoundrel and surprisingly that's what fans young and old like about him but even with that what sucks most about this show is that its premise could work i could see a show about boba fett's redemption being good maybe make him the sheriff of a town or something so his motivations are congruent and he can still be who he was to some extent with this redemption arc it's an old and tired line but star wars is testing my faith it's not what it once was and now every breath of fresh air is being spun off and corporatized to try and generate more interest in this franchise all being linked in this new chain of mcu star wars shows and book of boba is unfortunately the first victim of this strategy star wars is the amalgamation of various types of stories but now it's cannibalizing itself in this big auroboris to try and maintain relevance i want better for this character and hopefully i've laid out adequately enough how this show failed and butchered its title character and now here comes the ending this video took way longer than it had any right to it went through a lot of rewrites and i got a lot of anxiety about trying to meet the expectations of you all my smiling friends video did way better than i ever expected it to and i got a massive dopamine rush from all the praise i was getting from it and i didn't feel good at pumping something out that i wouldn't feel satisfied with so i thought i'd make this whole 40 minute video dedicated to a show i really don't like and a character i do like in the future though i want to try and strive for shorter form content in between longer content like this i enjoyed making this video but it's not feasible to have like such a gigantic break in between videos um for something that people might not be interested in last video was on internet animation and this one's on star wars i don't expect there to be a great translation of views uh but for whoever watched the smiling friends video and has come to this video and go hey i [ __ ] with this good job guy uh thank you very much uh go to my twitter go to my discord i'm not very active on both but if we keep going and going and going then maybe there will be more i don't really know what i'm talking about i don't have a script right now i'm just kind of saying whatever words are coming to my head i had another outro originally uh that one was just me kind of rambling and saying stuff about oh this video took a long time but yeah [ __ ] that spiel i am really bad at ending videos so thank you for staying with me i don't know how to end i am really bad at endings so as a little conclusion more videos shorter but also some long and thank you very much for watching i really appreciate it alright see ya [Music]
