How to AERATE and FERTILIZE your Lawn // Road to Golf Course Lawn

came back with the hose and filled these uh plugs to the brim with water down in there so [Music] hey guys it's Ian with real Bermuda so it came out you'll see the footage but I shot um some footage of me poking or pulling some plugs I should say not poking plugs but pulling plugs in these little bare spots here and I kind of explain in some of the shots why that area is bigger but yeah I just got this core aerator and it comes with a nice little tool to help knock your cores out if you got hard clay like we do it kind of jams up in there but so far I like it um it's worked pretty well it does a pretty decent job of keeping the cores flowing through and not getting stuck in there I did spray the I got the hose out sprayed it for maybe 60 Seconds let it sit for about five minutes and soak that water in to make it a little easier to pull them out um it's kind of hard to get real deep cores in some of my areas because this is only about a half inch of topsoil below the sod and then it's red dirt or red clay with rocks and boulders from there we're actually built on a uh a granite slab oddly enough so um sometimes you can get some real big chunks in there and it's hard to get you know especially when you're doing like Soul tests uh pulling soil samples or with this I've learned it's hard to get deep deep plugs out of there but I mean hey it's still opened it up right now will be a perfect time to go put some dirt booster or something I'm just kind of fill in those holes filling those gaps and a little bit of sand mixed with it probably I'm out of dirt booster so I'm not going to do that but I just want to show this off in this week's video I'll put a link to it on my site they do have a uh an oval shaped head that has about 15 I think spikes on it um so if you want to do little Spike punches um you can get that version as well it was like 40 bucks I think is what it was for this one I think it's about the same price for the spiked one if and when I get to do a putting green I'll probably buy the spike one for that um just to poke holes in um so anyways yep that's the tool I think it works great so definitely go pick it up if you need one so here are these weak spots I'm talking about you can see right here on these corners and what it is it's really I want to make my pass coming up through here along this Edge our first pass I end up going all the way down the edge all the way out through there my second or third and fourth pass I come in and I end up usually turning the mower somewhere around in this area so I think it's just got it compacted over time and I'm trying to be more uh conscious of it now that I uh I know this is an issue and trying to turn kind of varying areas out through here and then clean up those turn marks when I start to mow this section coming back um so we're going to knock some holes in these and see if we can get them to fill in in the next few weeks these are the areas so these are the areas that I did just a minute ago and it's hard to get this area I think the reason this is such a weak spot in this taller grass I can only get about an inch down in there before I hit uh I'm pretty sure it's probably just a huge Rock I've got some huge ones I've dug up but here's some other areas down here on the side that kind of really I don't show off much because it's just kind of my high cut area I don't really I don't real mode or anything but there's another little spot that's kind of On The Fringe um of where our real mow and where I keep it a little taller so all right let's go knock some some holes in these and see what will happen over the next couple weeks all right here we go try to just do one right here and then maybe one like this right here and you can see I'm hitting a rock right here on this one already so I'm going to go down as much as I can right there I might try to come back in here and overlap so there's definitely some compaction and some obstruction down there but that's a pretty decent [Music] he's doing a pretty decent job and you can see from from this that uh it'll definitely pull plugs out if I didn't have Rock underneath this it'd probably be a lot better but this this side was pretty much laid on about a half inch of topsoil at most and right below that this is red clay and uh right below that is a a granite slab oddly enough so I just want to add in real quick I've come back and came back with the hose and filled these uh plugs to the brim with water down in there so go ahead and get some hydration down in there we'll soak that up get the air down in there and hopefully we'll see these fill in hey what's up guys it's Ian um I'm back next day after the aeration stuff I'm gonna spray uh some new supplements today or not supplements but new fertilizer today I got some uh lawn solution or simple lawn Solutions 3 18 18. I'm going to use that to help bring up my phosphorus and potassium I was using just like an all-purpose granular from Walmart like super cheap stuff but now that I'm down at the 3 8 um height of cut the granular granule size is just too large for that so since I'm already doing other liquid stuff I'm just gonna switch over to hopefully an all liquid program for the rest of the season um at least as far as fertilizer goes I'll still be putting out duper dirt booster here and there you burster dirt booster here and there um but the liquids will help you know since I'm cutting so short I'm going to stay at 3 8 I might bring it up to uh to a half inch but um we'll see all right so I got all my equipment here drilled to mix it up hose to fill it up this is our uh 3 18 18 from simple lawn let me put that in I'm not going to do any iron today because I just did Iron for the whole yard a few days ago um I think Thursday of last week or Friday of last week but I am going to add in some more easy wet wetting agent to this stuff is a half ounce per gallon rate so I'm kind of just adding it anytime I'm spraying anything I'm putting some wetting agent out to help that water soak in so especially now that I've I've almost got the irrigation completely done it's not in ground but it's above ground system that'll save me a lot of time um I'll show you guys that I was hoping this week to have it completely finished but I'm waiting on some some fittings to come in from Amazon for some reason it's been taken like forever to get them to ship so um once that's done I'll show you guys the whole thing but that wedding agent applying that regularly I think is going to make a difference and I think I've already noticed it in the in the upper um elevation of the front lawn at least usually it'll dry out there now we hadn't got super hot yet but usually it'll dry out there first because everything runs down the slope towards the front of the house and I think I've already noticed a difference I'm spraying this stuff so [Music] thank you [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] thank you
