It's sad that this kind of people that mocks longevity research is the same that when they suffer from some kind of age-related diseases they rush to the hospital and pay for the best interventions in the market.
And most of the time Karma is a b... , because the best interventions in the market are not good enough to save them due to lack of funding for researching better therapies.
Last I checked, Russell himself has a net of 20 Million in Sterling Pounds, aka 27.5M USD, 23.2M EURO, 555.3 Bitcoin or 36.1M AUD. Alternatively, just over half the annual GDP of Tuvalu.
Given what poverty means in eras that aren't part of the developed world, I think Russell himself counts as part of the Super Rich.
To be fair he is a comedian so we can't expect much.
Unfortunately this kind of misunderstanding will always be present when it comes to longevity research.
Understanding the healthspan vs lifespan distinction is so critical - but when most lay people hear about anti-aging research, they somehow assume that we're trying to maintain the status quo.
Anyone with a basic understanding of healthcare system would be aware of the statistics/epidemiology around healthspan not keeping up with lifespan over the last few decades.
One of the most egregious examples of this would be oncology, where QoL matters little and only life extension 'matters' with cancer treatments. See recent paper: "Assessment of Food and Drug Administrationβ and European Medicines AgencyβApproved Systemic Oncology Therapies and Clinically Meaningful Improvements in Quality of Life - A Systematic Review"
This isn't saying oncology as a medical specialty is inherently bad, but that the strategy being used is clearly misguided if treatments extend lifespan without also extending healthspan, and often with only very marginal benefits for the former...
There are drugs being approved by FDA that extend life by mere months while costing patients several hundred thousand dollars. Doesn't stop the $$$ from coming into the industry though - the incentives for physicians/pharma are completely broken
I cannot stand this clown.
This, healthy-wise-critic-guru rebranding is revolting.
Better stick with the cheesy sexist clowning dude.
I generally think that people can make up their own minds. Therefore this video might actually end up being good for the movement because it creates awareness.
He can die. ππππ€£π€£π€£π€£π€£
Never thought this guy had anything useful to say. But I am reminded of that famous quote of unknown origin: "First They Ignore You, Then They Laugh at You, Then They Attack You, Then You Win"
Fine. Your opinion is your own. You are not required to partake.
But, I bet you change your tune should it become possible and available. I bet you sheepishly accept the therapy. I bet you're among the first when this hits mainstream.
You'll eat crow, you'll eat shit, you'll mea cupla, you'll bow to the new reality.
People like this just don't believe it's possible--it's hard to blame them.
I do not like it here, I do not like it there, I do not like it anywhere. I do not like life extension, Sam I Am.
