How Sub-Zero Became Noob Saibot

[Music] Mortal Kombat 11 released a little more than a month ago featuring a roster full of the usual suspects such as scorpion Raiden katana and Liu Kang but aside from the newcomers introduced to the franchise it did what you would expect from any other fighting game and threw in some surprise inclusions such as Jade Cabal and noob saibot noob saibot return was met with positive reception for Mortal Kombat fans acknowledging his story potential in clashing with sub-zero in Mortal Kombat 11 and as a character who has been part of the franchise since one of the earliest titles in Mortal Kombat 3 the background of noob saibot is tied to that of sub-zero in the Mortal Kombat games there is a sub zero in every mainline Mortal Kombat game but that name is not assumed by the same person in every game it should first be explained that there are two continuities in Mortal Kombat the Midway continuity comprised of titles developed by Midway Games and the NetherRealm continuity comprised of titles developed by NetherRealm Studios with only the latter active due to the closure of Midway Games noob saibot is a character who features in both continuities and his story is the same in both originally he is the first sub-zero that we meet in the earliest Mortal Kombat games but he only assumes that name for his first Mortal Kombat tournament this sub-zero real name bihaan is killed by scorpion after ordering the events of his first tournament as scorpion wrongfully blames him for the destruction of his family in the sheer I Ryu martial arts clan that he represents in the NetherRealm continuity scorpion kills bihaan during the tournament and in the Midway continuity bihaan is killed after the tournament after bihaan dies his soul goes to the nether realm it is established in both continuities that his soul was already corrupted but when his soul goes to the nether realm bihaan lost all trace of humanity and virtue after later being resurrected by an evil sorcerer named Quan Chi with bihaan now taking the name noob saibot when bihaan becomes noob saibot everything about his character becomes purely evil in a sense reflecting the complete corruption of his soul in his new form in the earlier Midway titles noob saibot served other villains but eventually he comes to the conclusion that he will work only for himself and pursues the conquering of nether realm in his own name in the nether realm continuities first game Mortal Kombat 2011 we see the Ark of B Hans life as it unfolds from death as sub-zero to revival as the evil noob saibot though he later ends up serving Quan Chi and is eventually killed by night wolf in the story mode of the game but we later see him again in Mortal Kombat 11 confronting a team of Scorpion and sub-zero at the cyber Lin Kuei Factory in chapter 4 this is the only time that he is seen in the story mode but the encounter is interesting because whether or not you choose to have scorpion or sub-zero face off against noob saibot either character has history with him scorpion now reformed and fighting with the heroes killed bihaan when he was human while scorpion himself was still a revenant at the time full of misdirected anger as a result of quan chi's manipulation this action he took against the advising of series hero Raiden sub-zero on the other hand his noob saibot younger brother who had previously spent time seeking news about the whereabouts of be Han in Mortal Kombat 2011 and after noob saibot is defeated by sub-zero in their story mode encounter sub-zero agrees with new cybot and renouncing their family ties disgusted at what be Han is both Scorpion and sub-zero found redemption that alludes noob saibot and apparently noob saibot wants nothing to do with it anyway chronica the main villain of Mortal Kombat 11 sought alliances with a variety of characters both in the present and in the past and either living or dead in order to affect a plan that would create a timeline free from unmanageable disturbances from the heroes she pursues more aggressive action in Mortal Kombat xi as she perceives Raiden to be causing timeline changes and moral imbalances hint skewing things towards the site of heroism that she disagrees with in seeking alliance with noob saibot chronica promised him an army of shadow warriors a goal that he actually sought out in the later Midway continuity titles once he decided to pursue the conquering of NetherRealm for himself while noob saibot is revived originally with the purpose of serving Quan Chi as has been the case with many other deceased characters as once Quan Chi claims ownership of a person's soul he has revived them as revenants for his bidding in the past he later willingly decides not to act in service to him in the Midway continuity and in Mortal Kombat Elevens non-canon character ending for noob saibot with quan chi already dead by the time of his revival noob saibot decides against service to chronica and ends up covering destiny and darkness after fusing his power with chronica and in a way that only noob saibot can in his non-canon Mortal Kombat 2011 ending noob saibot rebelled against Quan Chi and shinnok slaying them so that he would take over nether realm of those resurrected by Quan Chi only noob saibot is shown to totally have a will of his own as typically other resurrected revenants end up serving any evil leader that appears many heroic characters are slain in Mortal Kombat 2011 story mode by a powered-up Sindel recently announced as a DLC character but still existing as an evil revenant but they either end up serving quan chi or shinnok in Mortal Kombat ten when chronica seeks allies she enlists the revenants to help her and they ascent though we see him killed in Mortal Kombat 2011 story mode it's not really clear that noob saibot can actually die as he remarks in the Mortal Kombat xi story mode that Quan Chi's creations are too strong to die though this might refer only to himself as a being of pure shadow and evil bihaan originally fought as sub-zero and used ice themed attacks as he was a cryo Mansur much like his younger brother Kwai Liang who is sub-zero in every game that the name sub-zero is seeing besides the first nether realm and Midway title as noob saibot bihaan uses attacks themed around darkness and shadow and can even travel through darkness this can be best seen in one of his Mortal Kombat xi fatalities in which he imparts his essence as a type of black cloud and directs it to travel through his opponent as he kills them ultimately manifesting within his opponent and tearing apart their bodies starting from the top of their had definitely one of the more creative informatica ly interesting ways to die that the franchise has devised it has been specified by series founder Edie Boone in a tweet that so-to-speak Noob Saibot is a name that refers to a totality when we watch a black figure speaking in cutscenes or control him in fights that person is named noob the shadow figure that noob summons when he attacks our cybot or SCI BOTS noob saibot snai Miz also a reference to the last name of two of the series founders Ed Boon and John Tobias spelled backwards it's that simple and kind of cute and that concludes our video exploring noob saibot his transition from human to human shadow and the evil that he has become since then since he is now returned to the fray in Mortal Kombat 11 we might expect that though the other villains can actually perish and among that list are the worst of the worst including shinnok quan chi the recently confirmed dlc character shang tsung new villain on the block chronica and Shao Kahn noob saibot form is such that he might not ever die nevertheless noob saibot is as evil as it gets in Mortal Kombat and it might be interesting to see NetherRealm Studios plans for him in future games other villains may come and go but why couldn't it be the case that noob saibot is the arch
