I'll tell what is the funniest part. While many people are discussing and trying to figure out what is the deep reason for this or that fact in the show, the true reason is simply that the producers didn't have enough funds to push another story arc.

Of course I mean primarily the Amenadiel wings

you might be terrified of Lucifer's devilish face but let me assure you the only real thing about him is his abs can I rent Lucifer's penthouse why did the producers have to decide between keeping Lucifer's devil face or the wings and how Tom Ellis's suit ruin the cgi production hi my name is Janet let's start with the iconic devil's throne quick warnings spoilers ahead do you remember the epic season 4 finale where we see Lucifer Morningstar in his natural element in hell presiding on his majestic throne Daenerys would be jealous I bet your reaction would shift from amazed to confused if you saw the behind-the-scenes footage of Tom Ellis sitting in a lame chair with a green drape behind him beautiful guys keep going on this way keep going keep going keep going it said to what you guys are doing beautiful I mean the actor did his best to make it look badass but if I were on set I wouldn't make it through the scene without cracking up Lux nightclub and Lissa furs penthouse let's recall that scene at Lucifer's luxurious penthouse where he wakes up surrounded by his overnight friends what if I told you you can actually book yourself a room right next door in this very building that's right in reality the aerial shots of the lux nightclub and the penthouse top view belong to the landmark Sunset Tower Hotel in West Hollywood the trendsetting architecture from the 1920s caught the eye of the producers and was later modified with CGI check out the before and after shots of the building the visual artists did a pretty good job adding a top floor to Lucifer's version of the hotel and attaching a large spire sidenote stay tuned to see the transformation of Lucifer's devil face throughout the seasons now let's talk about the most mesmerizing part of the show besides Tom's charming accent Lucifer's wings with a capital W because at this point they are a separate character beau Janssen CG supervisor for the show said the fate of the wings was very uncertain in the beginning the first thought of the production was can we sustain wings as part of our character the issue was Lucifer is not a future film meaning you get 1/3 of the budget and 1/3 of the time to produce action yet the team decided to hack with it and that's how the most expensive CGI bit came to life and also the most problematic for the visual effects team in the season 3 finale Lucifer heroically saves Chloe's life by covering her with his angel wings while sweating bullets shoot right through him Jansen revealed that episode was a struggle the VFX team spent one month alone trying to figure out how to do it and then another month producing it CGI production is no joke the rendering time of a single frame took up to 5 to 6 hours and here's why cosa VFX staff had to create thousands of perfectly structured moving feathers rigged animated textured and oozing blood as Janzen explained they were not anatomically correct bird wings but angel wings so an animator was in control of the motion edge and face grooming reused to artificially place the light around the wings for the divine light on top of that the visual team had to make sure all the individual baby hair follicles were attached to the movement curve to make it seem realistic they used 16 texture variations of feathers all were different shapes and sizes with the lower skirt of the wings as long as Tom Ellis's leg despite all the effort fans were quick to criticize that the series lost its point and that some shots with the green-screen looked tacky Laura Barbera global head of CG for Lucifer was fast to shut them down by saying imagine doing such an incredible amount of work in such a compressed amount of time it is a testament that anybody can get anything that looks as good as it does it's really impressive but the fans criticism was nothing in comparison to Lucifer's lavish taste and need for luxurious outerwear which caused a lot of trouble for the CG crew when filming their green tape tracking markers necessary for post-production kept falling off his expensive Italian suit disrupting the shoot you just ruined a perfectly good Burberry what kind of monster does it remind you of someone CGI did amenadiel dirty do you remember that there was another main character with wings on the show why did amenadiel wings have to go it's not because of the script writers truth be told he went through the traumatic experience of losing his wings because it was way too expensive to sustain that CG effect any longer another fun fact about the pivotal CGI role in the production is that at the end of the crossfire in the season 3 finale Lucifer was meant to lift Chloe up in the sky and majestically fly away from the scene but the production crew figured it would be way cheaper if they both just disappeared into the mists now moving on to the most anticipated part of all seasons the one and only devil's face reveal how did they achieve that petrifying look of Lucifer's gaze burning through you was it makeup prosthetics or did the producer splurge for the key antihero of the hit show to amaze the audience the show's CG supervisor revealed that the process of creating Lucifer's devil face was a whole ordeal it was only in the pilot episode where all the work was done with makeup artists prosthetics and contact lenses producers didn't show the face for the entire season 3 until the ultimate reveal in the finale the visual effects team showed their masterpiece so here's a bit of the dev work on the devil face ZBrush sculpt again trying to go for these kind of concavities in there that you couldn't really do with prosthetics so much work only to have the show canceled after that episode yikes to achieve that look CG specialists use geo trackers hooking them to a generic face onto the plate to get a special facial cap then a spherical image was taken by multiple passes of a fisheye lens and later edited in software the whole of Tom's face is then replaced with this imagery with just his eyes peeking through Ellis shared his experience by saying it used to be a laborious process with me and a green-screen now I don't have to do any of that it takes barely a few minutes I have to put like a few tracking dots on my face and a bald cap I look like I have measles this is also the first season you see Lucifer as the devil talking so I got these tracking dots around my arms and legs to bridge what's going on here and why the way bar fights now what you see in the series is merely a well-planned dance routine not gonna lie though it's a badass routine for the fight scenes neither Tom nor lesley-ann Brandt who portrays demon mace have stunt doubles all tricks and kicks are performed on their own the choreography is mastered to perfection beforehand before the fast motion and special effects kick in speaking of a well-planned dance routine watch Tom Ellis behind the scenes of season 4 literally recreating the Dirty Dancing legendary lifts with his co-star Kevin Alejandro the only thing missing in the edited version was the dozens of ropes attached to the actor thousands of fans Ramon that very moment in their heads with them in that role instead sorry strong explosions and shooting for some scenes the use of firecrackers would suffice but if we want actual bullet rain in the scene it has to be an epic location and layers of your editing guys even the smoke is fake so I'm merging through the smoke there was no smoke they put smoke on set but not for this so we had to have them kind of you know wisp through we did some Sims to get the smoke on that and see all the utility passes for the season three finale the production team rented a building and feed residents to leave their house for a couple of days and thank God they did for several days the crew were blasting air cannons to create that crossfire seat the sound visuals and exploding marble vases all that looks fantastic on screen yet on set one of the stuntmen took a blast from the vase to the back of his head filling Lucifer is a near-death experience for some still considering whether you need a double Tom and Lesley Ann now let us know in the comments below which scene was your favorite do you expect to see more epic fight scenes in season 5 just picture how awesome the hell scenes could be don't forget to subscribe and as always stay
