hello everybody it's Adam monk here from 442 and England are in the final of the AOS and they will be playing Spain um and at the time of recording this I don't even know if I am still drunk to be honest no seriously I think I am but yeah when thinking about this video obviously a preview of the final I could have gone one of two ways about it now I will let you the audience into a little bit of sight me and Adam Cleary who obviously have access to the channel we get to see our analytics and roughly 60% of you who view our videos are from the UK so with that said do I not now have a duty of care for you guys to produce the right kind of positive video despite what I actually think yeah of course I do here how England can win to be honest I'm scared look don't be scared I am scared don't be scared I am scared that's fine that's fine it's it's It's Perfectly Natural to be scared right first things first I'll get the obvious out the way spainer really really good um so how do England go about this well the first thing that comes to my mind wouldn't actually be about any of the players who I think are going to start the games if you actually look at where England and also Spain to an extent as well this is probably ACC Commendation of both sides who are going to be playing in the final the way England have actually gone about winning most of their games you know pulling a rabbit out of the heart late into a game has been how Bloody good GIS Southgate substitutions have been I don't need to go on about the obvious strength in depth that England have we all saw it when he selected the squad and the players that he left at home as well like James Madison Jack greish those kind of top level players we have so much quality but Southgate has used it so optimally so of course in the Slovakia game the decision to bring Ivan on on and then go a bit more direct worked an absolute treat I know that Bellingham scored that worldly but if you look at the goal at then England scored in extra time to take the lead Harry Kane that was Tony's holdup play Tony's holdup play was brilliant throughout the extra time period and he should have scored a one-on-one late on as well so that was a master stroke and then his decision to not only bring Tony on against Switzerland but also Cole Palmer um eay came on as well he basically prepped Trent as well he prepped for the penalty shootout and we came out on top there with five out of five incredible penalties Tony's of course again being Ju Just to talk about that absolutely superhuman I think what most people haven't really touched on with that yes he doesn't look at the ball but you know edin Hazard didn't used to look at the ball Mario batelli didn't used to look at the ball when they took penalties but what they used to do was wait for the keeper to go one way sit him down and go the opposite way Tony like a psychopath just stared him down and then just went yans su's actual way kicked it towards yans Su and put it in the side netting it's proba arguably the best penalty I've ever seen it was absolutely outrageous but anyway yeah anyway then he decided to switch it up didn't he against the Netherlands and admittedly at the time I was watching it with my mates in the pub and we'd all had a few bears and when Ole Watkins went up to come onto the pitch I was a bit like what's that all about and a lot of my mates were and a lot of people in the pub really couldn't quite understand it and maybe that was C I was a little bit inated but really he made me look a right of course after the last two games I'd seen against Slovakia and Denmark I assume that Tony would come on not only for a potential penalty shootout but to hold the ball up like he did in the two previous games but no Gareth had different ideas and it was an incredible picture that Gareth Southgate painted in his own head of how the game was going to unfold and it was a deliberate substitution to bring mly Watkins on that would win England the game in normal time which I just think was so commendable perhaps I didn't notice it at the time but the Dutch had dropped a little bit deeper towards the lot stages of the game then olle Watkins came on and the ability that he had here to swivel turn his man and hit it through the ey of needle through dev's legs and into the side netting was an incredible incredible finish but I cannot stressing off how much credit G Southgate deserves for making that substitution CU he envisioned it it's not the first time that olle Watkins has scored a goal very very similar to this he did it early on last season at Stanford Bridge again a tight angle hit across the face of goal this one went in off the post but it was so similar in the way it was scored back to goal Defender goal side of him the defender thinks he's done Allie can and OE Watkins finds that ey the needle this was something premeditated from Southgate and it worked an absolute treat so Point number one England can win the game from the bench alone as long as they stay in it during the 90 minutes anyway linking that point about the substitutions into my next point which is unfortunately about [Music] rodri Roger is going to be the key to whoever wins this game if he's allowed to do what he wants to do Spain will win I'm sorry there is no way I can go around this he's the best footballer on the planet right now what's the word to use he's the metronome for Spain everything that's good about Spain starts fundamentally with rodri this was rodri's heat map against France and it wasn't necessarily even his best game of the tournament but like I honestly he a number six I I can't even really describe to you how ridiculous this is his action areas are just are everywhere he can carry the ball forward he can sit back with his own back four and Screen the defense he can dictate play from the center circle he can also drift out wide you can see there he's just like on the ball he's so imperious that he's not weak anywhere on the football pitch when receiving the ball so the main thing that that would tell you is you just you can't give him time on it and this was rodri's pass map as well against France like I it's it's it's just it's just everywhere the guy's going to get a Duke of Edinburgh award if he keeps this up because like he doesn't assign himself to one one area of the pitch he's just all over the place spreading long balls short balls everything he ticks every box so how the hell did you stop him uh it's a very difficult question to answer I think a lot of managers don't even know the answer to this but we have tried here at 442 and I'm going to cash your mind back to the 14th of November 2023 to a video that Adam clar very insightfully made after Chelsea Macio Postino's Chelsea Drew four all with Manchester City and in doing so really targeted rodri and stopped City's box Midfield using two players who will no doubt be on England's bench and that is Cole Palmer and color and Connor Gallagher um and I'm not saying start Connor Gallagher before you execute Me by firing squad I'm just saying he is there and we have got players who can maybe make this kind of thing work and suffocate rodri a bit so anyway here's the flashback I mean case in point these are the average positions for the starting 11 across the course of the game and the first thing will jump out at you is that's not a double pivot that's just rodri pretty much their entire game plan from an attacking sense was to Target the exact moment that City would leave rodri isolated so when the ball's turned over aangi if he stepped forward or Walker if he's come across they've got a move back which leaves him on his own and there was always a bit of time before Bernardo Silva or whoever else comes back to make this shape up again so in this exact moment here when it's just rodri they flooded that area Chelsea were also supposed to have a 4231 that was not actually anything like a 42 31 but if we put the average positions over again you can see Enzo Fernandez was pretty much as deep as I of the whole game he did sit in that area he did make it hard for City to play through but look at this bit here you could throw a tea towel over Sterling Jackson Gallagher and Palmer and it was this combination of just constantly rotating position constantly targeting rodri when he was exposed that just caused Man City all kinds of problems one thing they never ever tend to do is get drawn towards the wrong man and leave space and yet Chelsea managed to do that three or four times and make great chances out thank you very much Adam now in conclusion yes we aren't going to be playing a 4231 like Poo's Chelsea did on that day we will be playing a back five with probably sacka and trip here at fullback again but sacka in this system really likes to push out wide right similar to how Palmer started on the pitch in that game and of course we might have two number 10s in bellam and foden who we can attribute to maybe do this to rodri so point I'm trying to make is if england are going to have a chance rodri needs to be cut off at sour as much as possible we really need need to just restrict the amount of time that he can have on the ball in any area of the pitch I i' just pin someone to him and get that person a restrain in order at fulltime I would not let rodri breathe because if he's allowed to breathe England will lose this game because Spain will just dominate possession and they'll pick England apart who else is good for Spain then uh oh yeah that child there's actually two Wingers who are incredible for Spain both Williams and yamal but the latter is the same age as Lego Star Wars a complete saga and he's taken the absolute out of every on this tournament and it's kind of a problem now the one positive if you watched my preview of The Netherlands England game where I spoke about Cody gapo in particular and how proficient he was on that left hand side for Holland and how good he was against Turkey England dealt with gapo really really well with sacka and Walker both on that right hand side so in terms of Williams I would just do the same thing sacka is allowed to push on we know how good Kyle Walker can be at dealing with any Winger whether it's mbappe or venicius Junior so you'd hope that he can keep Williams un lock but yamal is a bit of a different story and he's just an absolute freak of a footballer he's actually that good that it's kind of hard for me to think of a positive spin on this the one positive spin I can think of if we're assuming it's going to be Karen trippier at left wing back well kieren Tripp is Right footed Lam yal left so that kind of favors defending that cut inside that we know yal so good at um that is one positive but you know yal can go both ways and even still he's such an intelligent footballer I think what's so scary about him at his age is how mature he is sometimes he knows not to even take someone on he just knows to take the sting out the game beat the Press keep a man held off him and just retain possession he knows how to do everything he's on the same him sheet as all the other Spanish players he's not one of these like rough uncut gems that you'd see a usual 16-year old footballer be like Wayne Rooney or even lonel Messi when he was like 17 like yamal already seems like the finished article at 16 so I don't really know how like you know you can attribute a lot of bodies to rodri you can hope that KY Walker will lock down Williams but like yal yeah I'm I'm kind of praying for trippier on this one I really am like maybe we could double up and you know like in the sense that baa Saka can come and defensively contribute can we pull like a foden in to help with that as well or maybe push one of mine who or rice out wide in certain situations I don't know but it is very hard for me to figure out like how you stop this kid when he can just turn it on in an instant and like truth be told if he gets in one of these positions and Fashions up to have a shooting opportunity and then does this then like have we not just got to hold our hands up like if that happens then you know there's not really anything I think we can tactically do to stop whatever the hell that child did against France fortunately though England do have an amazing young player at themselves who will no doubt be starting the final and will become England's youngest ever starter at an International Tournament final and that is of course kobby minu the combination both kobby minu and Phil foden were executing together against the Netherlands in the sort of right half space these Pockets was just absolutely phenomenal the other day if england can get minu on the ball in these situations look at how quickly he turns here it's very hard to show you with screenshots but the quick shift in momentum that minu has got in his locker is such an incredible asset for England to have and I think he first showed this I remember against Liverpool at home in the FA Cup for United where he was just driving at the heart of Liverpool's defense and getting to the by line getting crossed into rashford he was really doing that in this game but with Phil fodm continuing to drive here he takes it to the edge of the Dutch penalty area and threads it through between van dijk and a into foden's path and then a lot of my mates were saying foden could have hit this on his left foot but I think he he kind of had it stuck under his feet really and I think to be honest he did very very well out of the situation he was in and then this one again this chance of course more is to do with Phil foda and His World Class ability that he's got in his locker but if you just look at Mino and foden's positions they were both pinned next to each other for large durations of the game when they were both on the pitch just on the edge of the area in that right half space ready to receive any onew combinations and sort of rely on their own individual ability and spontaneity to just make things happen and like this chance here it was just a phenomenal strike and had it had gone in it would have been one of the goals of the tournament certainly England's best maybe apart from the Bellingham strike but this is where England need to also get Phil foden on the ball I can't it's a bit of a catch 22 because if we want to pin rodri and keep him out the game then maybe foden won have as much joy doing this but if we can get Phil on the ball in that right half space how many goals have we seen last season where he cuts inside on his left foot and he don't need a moment to think about it he can just rifle it and that's that's why he's got his little bang sniper celebration now cuz he can just Fizz it in from anywhere in that kind of area on the pitch and like I will remind you for the sake of it you've got one at the Burnal one at home to West Ham one against Manchester United as well so yeah this is it the big game England versus rodri uh if you've watch this video that's pretty much what it's been because that's how good I think think rodri is I actually think England can probably rely on the likes of marata and stuff scuffing chances if he's not injured by that cameraman we shall see but as for Lal he is probably the most electric player in that side and the one who's going to be hardest to deal with um but I trust trippier I trust the boys I think this really could be destiny fate like I just think the way that we've gone through each round is the writing not on the wall am I tempting fate I don't know but I don't made this video not wanting to be negative because I do know how good Spain can be and I know they're the favorites and I've been saying throughout the tournament that they're the best team in the tournament which they are but listen in finals gone by in the past I think about my team Man City we were heavy favorites going into the final against Chelsea of the champions league and Chelsea did a number on us with a back five as well might I add so it is doable and yeah and also England Alik they're slowly they're slowly starting to incrementally play better every single game that they play so hopefully it just culminates now with the final fingers crossed anyway guys yes I hope you enjoyed the video and I hope you try and enjoy the game as much as you possibly can cuz I'm sure we'll all be very stressed come Sunday if you are an England fan that is anyway um but yes don't forget to subscribe guys and I'm sure on the green screen now what side is it going to be on I think it's that side there's like a new magazine I don't actually have the physical copy with me right now but it's there peps disciples if you'd like to buy that then you can buy that in any retailer that sells it anyway guys I've been Adam monk _ Adam Monk on any socials if you'd like to check that out hope you have a lovely weekend guys come on England take care I'll see you soon goodbye
