who was idas many souls players may not even know this character the master weapon craftsman who cherished the triple crossbow avalyn is more important to dark souls than it at first seems to understand idas we must first understand his master idas was an apprentice and became a master craftsman under the guide of one who came before him [Music] idas was lucky enough to be taught by the nameless blacksmith deity the nameless blacksmith deity a giant god is the hefeistus figure of dark souls just like her feistus he was a master blacksmith stoneworker and architect he was lame in one leg and the demons that grew from his heirlooms bear warped blacksmith tools and must move by pulling themselves around with their healthy leg he was a stone worker like caphistus he worked with titanite slabs and shards imbuing them into metal he was a master craftsman as he made both weapons and armor for the gods on all of which he printed with his symbol of craftsmanship [Music] and on his works of architectural genius with his unique style and symbols stamped and evident in anor londo and the archives [Music] the archives existed long before seath was allowed to pursue his research at the regal archives they are regal as in royal and seath is merely a duke the archives had been standing long before the dragons were challenged after these masterworks and late in a long life the blacksmith deity took iras on as apprentice when idas finished his training he was gifted with a set of armor and shield bearing the blacksmith deity symbol on the thighs of the armor [Music] on the chest piece [Music] and almost totally hidden on the cuffs [Music] this set looks familiar does it not we know it as the crystal set but what did it look like before it was bonded with crystals and there we see it again the blacksmith deity's mark of his craft printed on his shield and now hidden by crystal so now we know that idas is the crystal knight but what of avalyn gifted at the end of training or perhaps to mark another event the name avalyn means longed for child perhaps it was a gift on the birth of eidass's daughter it is possible they share the same name if we add it to his set we see that it matches perfectly in color style and markings yet he is missing his cherished avalyn when we meet him in the archives let us return to the past to find out why during ires's prime he continued his work no doubt perfecting his craft and keeping to himself until he played his part in the plot against the gods seath stole more treasures than just hydras and clams when he helped thwart the plot in all likelihood he abducted idah at the same moment the plot against the gods fell apart the archery that is cut supported the now broken area to lord nito's domain and the hollow tree could have been climbed as a secret link to lord nito's domain from below this broken route leaves dead bodies of the plotters above and below [Music] it is here that idac's fortune turns darker idah says goodbye to his old life at the same location that the dead body of his old master rests he's abducted ass for one reason he needs a weapon craftsman a master weapon craftsman seath has taken the crystal ember as part of his research into crystals he needs weapons for his foot soldiers and channelers powerful weapons weapons which can even boost those seath wishes to protect [Music] but idas is a rebel and a master craftsman both take wills of steel he will not be enslaved easily but seath knows he can break him with time first he takes aveline his cherished weapon that has likely bonded with his soul and may even remind him of his daughter then using his knowledge of crystals he forces a bond between idah's soul and an unassuming great sword with which the master craftsman has no prior connection like forcing someone in love to marry a stranger he even crystallizes idas himself it seems like his undead crystal hollows who are mindless slaves i das may even be bonded to the crystal ember so begins the blurring of idlas's mind [Music] the crystals link with his soul his soul forges attachments for these new weapons in denver and perhaps even for the crystals in seath's lair in time idas begins to lose his mind and becomes bonded to the archives forced to furnish arms for seith's minions he works constantly he produces masterful weapons such as the tridents of the chandlers pieces of art that are reminiscent of avlin but with a sinister twist in style [Music] beautiful and robust armor are also in ides style but with a mania running through their appearance [Music] and crystal swords and shields are forged for seath skeleton soldiers slowly the use of the crystal ember makes such a strong bond with his soul that he is lost he grows a true addiction for his new crystal craft his mind slowly blurs and splits like light through a crystal a slave to seeth a slave to his addiction and by the time you meet him he is beyond saving a prisoner dying to protect his own jailer
