one of my mundane yet cherished memory is coming back from the office at night and relaxing a little by playing hell on Earth starter pack like Brutal Doom the starter pack was made by Sergeant Mark 4 it's a megawad that's basically a remake of the Doom 2 campaign while the theme of the maps remain the same their looks are drastically changed and since I'm also a huge blood fan this map pack made me feel like it came from a build engine game like blood or Duke 3D the starter pack was worked on for a while but then it got shifted into extermination day which unfortunately Never released as far as I know starter pack however is in a near finished state so if you do want to check it out definitely do it if you never tried it there's no understating the impact of Brutal Doom on the community as as a whole regardless if you look at it in a positive or negative light but Brutal Doom did change the way people would play classic Doom today the BD players are a sub community of their own with their own submods and maps with the larger Community still preferring the classic way of playing Doom now there is nothing wrong with how one wants to play Doom be it the classic way or the Brutal Doom way I play in both ways depending on what I want you can enjoy whatever you'd like to prefer there's no wrong way of playing Doom apart from H Doom if you play H Doom I'm going to call the cops now Brutal Doom takes the already pretty amazing game and turns it up a notch call it modernized or even overhauled but it shows Doom in a more as the name States brutal way the weapons are absolutely devastating the monsters are much more violent and aggressive additions like the kick the dodging the slow motion are all welcome additions the combination of the updated Sprites with the blood gushing out with the impact of the bullets and the sound effects it all adds up to be this serotonin inducing experience I understand if this might be something too much for some hardcore Old School Doom players but I personally love it recently Brutal Doom got its version 22 beta test released into the public the Sprites of the weapons have been updated along with many many other things the official Dev diary video would do a better job at showcasing the changes but what I particularly liked is that they went back to the roots of Doom make the weapons look how they looked in classic Doom I'll be it with that Brutal Doom after touch same with the Enemy Sprites while there are new enemies in Brutal Doom the original enemies appear as the do in classic Doom but function on a much more advanced level now what I liked about BD apart from all that I stated is how it enhances the original Doom 2 maps a few new obstacles here a few touch-ups there and all of a sudden it feels fresh something to note is that while BD does add in quite a lot of new weapons they feel like offshoots of pre-existing weapons like there's a shotgun and a super shotgun while BD adds in the auto shotgun that weapon that the Marine is holding on the cover that's here the weapon that the zombies use it's here too basically what this all gravitate towards is that Brutal Doom tries its best to stick close to the source material while introducing all these new elements even the few enemies that it adds are variant of pre-existing ones like this goat man or this weird looking manibus also I have have no idea if this was just added or if it was always here but Vehicles there were a plethora of different vehicles in the test map and I only just found out about them maybe modders can use Brutal Doom as a base and use these in their own mods who knows would be pretty cool to see now I've never been involved that much in the modding scene of Doom and that's why when I streamed Brutal Doom a while ago I saw a few comments pop up saying project brutality is better play PB you should streem PB instead now I had heard of project brutality and in my mind it was a mod for Brutal Doom well I was kind of right but not really for this video I wanted to check out what PB actually was and to put it into simple terms project brutality is basically Brutal Doom but on crack project brutality started off as a fork of Brutal Doom but as far as I understand it has since removed any code it used from rutal Doom and now is its own thing PB I feel like is a mod that the most hardcore of the hardcore Brutal Doom players would enjoy while Brutal Doom tends to stick to the source material project brutality tends to be Overkill in every aspect possible like as soon as you start you can understand how far this mod wants to take it the HUD is something akin to Doom Eternal and to be honest with you rather than classic Doom project brutality feels like a classic version of Doom Eternal going into the test map for project brutality I was amazed to see how how many enemy variants this mod has there's at least half a dozen or dozen variants of the common enemies along with three to four variants for the bigger ones and don't get me started on the weapons sure Brutal Doom has a couple that feel like too much but godamn project brutality has weapons that are comically destructive along with that for every weapon there's like this weapon option menu like for the shotgun you can select different types of slugs for the pistol you can select to put on a silencer almost every weapon has has this type of option to it then you have the different types of equipments like a normal grenade then there's a proximity mine and rocket launchers that spew out of your back like Eternal I guess nevertheless project is enjoyable it's fun and that's all that matters but to be honest with you it's many different options and gameplay elements scare me in a very loose manner I would say that they overwhelm me Brutal Doom is mostly about shooting while the added elements take a back seat here here the added elements are an essential part of the gam play because the enemies in this mod are even more difficult than in Brutal Doom so you need to utilize every single piece of weapon equipment and skill you have the most satisfying bit of PB is the melee kills like Doom Eternal pressing the melee button does this cool little melee kill that I love however after a while it started to make me feel dizzy because of how the camera moves now at the question that some might have which one is the better mod and to be honest with you both of them it really depends on what you need if you played Brutal Doom and need something more than project brutality is a perfect choice to soothe your inner psychopath if you want classic Doom but a little faster more violent and brutal then of course Brutal Doom if not either of them then there's plenty of other gameplay mods too that I hope to cover soon overall both of these mods are Hallmarks of the Doom modding scene and like all things that got famous they've also received quite a a bit of flack from players 2 for all kinds of reasons but in the end it's just Doom just a tad brutal thanks for watching and a big thanks to these benefactors for supporting the channel unusual Taylor wufo scums AI Nicholas go Imperial
