how'd you become that guy you know what I I grew up not that guy yeah so a lot of people put a title on me they want to uh They See Me Now They See Me Now as the guy that with his shirt off who can do 4,030 pull-ups in 17 hours you can run 205 miles in 39 hours who can do all this crazy [ __ ] but what they don't understand is they don't understand the journey that it took me to get to this point and what got me to this point was I was just the opposite of what I am today I was that guy who ran away from absolutely everything that I got in front of me but not many people knew that I had two people had the like the real me was like this very scared insecure stuttering got beat up by his dad all this kind of stuff and then I I built this fake person that walked around like my [ __ ] didn't stink you know you know yeah so that was that's kind of how I did it you have to know know who you can be at certain times of your life no one knows who they are cuz if you if you know who you are right now you'd be really limited you know cuz life is about change you'll to be to then 5 years from now you be a different person won't be this person so we we're going to have to have develop some kind of emotional intelligence and just learn to as time goes on grasp what's ever going on and just form with it as the change you change with it cuz it's very difficult when times change to change with the times right and you have to be conscious of that and the times is not the people around you the time is the development and time you have left in this planet that you have to develop who you are I just can't let it do it [Music] anymore I'm going to have setbacks I know but if I'm feeling bad that doesn't mean I'm doing bad that doesn't mean I am bad that doesn't mean that I can't still take some action because yeah nothing changes and nothing changes man you know we'll sit around forever wondering well what if I you know what if I was a dog catcher would I be the best what if I was a you know what if I worked on that you know at Avalanche you know search you know searching for avalanches and predicting them or a what is it called a uh geology who would I you know would I be able to do it would I you don't know until you say yeah I'm going to you know what I'm going to take action nothing changes if nothing changes man and I'm not preaching at you I'm just uh I just want to remind you cuz you know I've spent a lot of time in my life sitting around wanting things to change motivation is a feeling that comes and goes and it doesn't matter whether it's there or not discipline is infinitely more important so no matter how you feel get up and do what you're supposed to do that's it and that's discipline it's not motivation if you only did what you were supposed to do when you were motivated to do it that's leaving it to chance but if you're disciplined you go do what you're supposed to do that's the way it works there is no passion to be found playing small and settling for a life that's less than the one you're capable of living I'm sure people have told you to make sure you have something to fall back on make sure you got something to fall back on honey but I never understood that concept having something to fall back on if I'm going to fall I don't want to fall back on anything I want to fall forward I figure at least this way I'll see what I'm going to hit our minds are like a [ __ ] garage and the garage you if you open a garage and it's all cluttered up it's all [ __ ] up you can't put your car in there you got [ __ ] boats and you got [ __ ] kids toys and [ __ ] everywhere where but if you organize that [ __ ] garage and you put everything in this rightful spot you can pull that car in there you can put two cars in you put bikes in there and that's like with their mind people talk about discipline and [ __ ] determination and [ __ ] you know repetitions and all this [ __ ] consistency why people fall off the wagon so often is because their mind is full of [ __ ] there's no room in that mind for discipline there's no room for consistency they may do it once or twice but then the mine takes over and that cluttered [ __ ] garage comes in and then it's like a circuit breaker man circuit breaker just overloads [ __ ] Sparks and our minds that's that's our mind man it's like a [ __ ] circuit breaker has so much [ __ ] in it you keep on loading it you can't put any more into it clearing space in your [ __ ] mind so then you have room for all those disciplines waking up or taking those cuz they they they do mean something but we don't get get to that [ __ ] dark matter that is keeping you from clearing out that mental garage look when you're a kid you're all potential it's chaotic potential it can manifest itself in any number of ways and you maybe you don't want to give that up so you're like Peter Pan you want to be a kid forever because you don't want to give up the potential and you look out in the world and all you see are Captain Hooks you know who've lost a hand who are chased by death because that's the clock in the crocodile it's already got a taste of him he's terrified by death and he's a tyrant well I don't want to grow up to be that so I won't be dis iined at all well that's no good because the way the potential transforms itself into actuality is through discipline you need to put yourself in uncomfortable situations and uncomfortable scenarios okay if you do easy things you will have a hard life if you do hard things you will have an easy life let me say it again if you do easy things you will have a hard life if you do hard things you will have a easy life as a man you have to understand that we as men we do better in environment where we are uncomfortable okay you put pressure on a rock it turns into a diamond let me show you this we all live inside a bubble right this is our world we go to church here we work over here we go get our coffee over here we go to this park over here we usually go over here to you know hang out with friends this is our favorite Club this is our world this is our favorite spot on the beach we all live in this bubble what you got to do to get the life that God want you to have you got to put more air in your bubble you got to blow your bubble up expand yourself take yourself out your comfort zone do not live in your bubble put some more air in your bubble if you stay in your comfort zone that's where you will fail you will fail in your comfort zone success is not a comfortable procedure it is a very uncomfortable thing to attempt so you got to get comfortable being uncomfortable if you ever want to be successful start putting some pressure on put some pressure on yourself get out here and get about it look I love to sugarcoat this thing for you I love to tell you look you can go out here and get rich do a couple of things D ain't happening you got to get real doish you got to get down right funky if you want to make it you're looking for calm and peace you won't matter actually said this before people were talking about how do you decide or how do you know if someone's going to be monumentally successful in the world and everyone knows because there's been large studies on it the IQ level is not how you dictate it and I'll tell you how you dictate it somebody's tolerance to stress the better you are at dealing with stress the more successful you will be because as you climb up the ladder the stress level increases it is a direct positive correlation between success and stress they go together there's no light without dark the more money you're paid the more important you are the bigger your problems they said it more many more problems it goes together I'm not complaining I'm prepared to handle those problems but as you get bigger and larger and larger and larger the pressure is heavier and heavier so I'm going deeper in the ocean as you go deeper in the ocean of success the pressure around you gets stronger Only the strongest submarines can make it to the bottom if you don't fail you're not even trying I'll say it again if you don't fail you're not even trying my wife told me this great expression to get something you never had you have to do something you never did would like to know when you're in that moment failing MH and you have to keep going what do you say to yourself what if a lot of times I'll be in a 200 mile run or something like that and I'm all jacked up body's broken mind's Broken Spirits broken I start to say what if I can pull this off when I first walked into the Navy SE recruiter's office he looked at me and said there's only been 35 African-Americans in 70 years make it through you know I said to myself what if I can be the 36th it's the what if I can pull off a [ __ ] miracle what if I can become someone that no one thinks I can be and just that just me talking about that I have the hair gr up on my arms because it makes me just like what if I can be that guy that people who call [ __ ] and this and that and now I'm speaking at Tom Fair's [ __ ] event
