How AI Makes New Movies That Look Old - 1950's Super Panavision 70 Tutorial

hello everyone welcome back my name is Pat and I'm one of the people that have been making these 1950s Panavision Style movie trailers where we take new movies and make them look old a little bit about me I've been on YouTube and I've been a filmmaker for way longer than I care to admit I love doing it and I love this new medium that is AI film making and these little trailers are an excellent way to practice your skills and I've been getting a lot of questions about them so here's a video about how I make it happen so the first thing you're going to need is a script here I am in just chat GP you can write a script the old fashioned way or you can generate one it's easier to generate one and a lot of people do so here's how you do that so for this example we'll just keep it simple just do a parody of Star Wars and we'll make it look like it was made way back in the 1950s so we'll prompt chat gbt and it can be as simple as that for my personal purposes this kind of a script would not cut the mustard I definitely if I was going to use chat GPT as a starting point I'd want to go back in here and make it a little bit better but you do you me grab a line of dialogue here and now here we are in a website called 11 laabs doio I will have all of the links to everything down in the description and they have literally an entire library of voices that you can sift through so here's like Harrison deep in cinematic and out here we have Harrison and here's our line of dialogue I always throw an exclamation point on the end just to give the Nar Ator a little more oomph and then we hit generate speech join our fearless Heroes as they embark on a daring mission to rescue the Galaxy from the clutches of darkness and that is good enough as far as music goes I'm not going to dwell too far into it but I like to use udio or sunno those are two different music generation websites you can literally just type in what you want and then it will generate realistic sounding music that will fit the bill it also should be noted that most of these software are paid but they do all offer free trials if you just want to experiment a little bit and kind of hone your craft before you decide to pay for it they're not very expensive I think in total I spend about $70 a month for all of my AI generation services at the moment all right so here we just have a little mock timeline I've got some music that I generated with udio I have a little audio clip that I generated with 11 labs and then in the background I just have some vinyl crackling for ambon now what we need is the video itself and to do that we're going to crack open good old mid journey and here we have a new server that I have invited the mid Journey bot to and we're going to prompt this guy for some Star Wars so let's type in our prompt here so we go to imagine and then we go well it's Star Wars so let's just keep it simple Luke Skywalker where should Luke Skywalker be fly buying an xwing 1950s penis at a base this is what you're looking for with a prompt you really want the name of the film stock in there you want the time period and you want to make sure that the cinematographer was doing a good job so enter and we'll let that generate all right so here we have a selection of images um let's see what we want to work with none of these really look 100% like Mark Hamill and if we wanted to we could go in and try to fix that but that's a topic for another day I think so for now we're just going to go with this one simply because it doesn't have any letter boxing and it's a little bit easier to work with and the next step is where the magic happens we're going to go over here to Pika Labs I've just gone ahead and attached my image that we're working with I have some negative prompts that I always put in here to make sure I get the best out of p laabs and then you have all of these like different motion strengths that you can add to it and it's totally trial and error mess around see what kind of shots you get but we hit generate and we're going to get ourselves a clip and now this is part of the secret sauce the key to getting a great AI image or video generation is what's called a rrolling that is regenerating over and over and over again until the AI actually gives you something that you can use and one of the things that I love about pabs is I have the unlimited plan and it's actually Unlimited there are other services such as hyper which is totally free right now they actually don't even let you pay for it and there is Runway ml which is kind of the mac daddy but they don't offer a truly unlimited plan for less than like $70 a month pabs $35 a month totally unlimited so here is our video that's been generated and it looks okay he's kind of static I don't like that he's not moving that much and it's a little bit jerky so we're going to go to reprompt and I'm just going to add a zoom out just to get a dramatic kind of a shot see what happens more often than not I just let it ride like this I don't usually describe what the shot is the AI is pretty good at picking up what it is and if we are retrying a bunch of times then this works just fine and in fact speaking of retrying I know this is going to be a tricky shot that's probably not going to turn out great on the first try Pika lets you generate up to 10 videos simultaneously so let's do that oh I got a little warning that my credits are low but that's okay I'm still unlimited and now we will let all of these generate and hopefully one of them will be what we want all right here's our crop of videos let's see what we got yeah that that doesn't look very good he kind of turns into a completely different person with uh a medical condition his eyes are bad the X-Wing looks bad X-Wing kind of morphs he's talking talking to nobody and it goes out of focus nope weird weird that one's okay obviously the X-Wing doesn't really look like an X-Wing but the actual motion and all that looks pretty good a little bit of odd motion there there we go I'm liking that all right this one's the winner and here we are in our editor we're just going to scale this up and the last thing we're going to do it's not really dramatic to have a pull away and go out of focus and since the movement here is kind of neutral I guess you could call it we're going to do a little trick and we're going to reverse the speed so now join our fearless Heroes as they embark on a daring mission to and that's how the sausage is made now wash RS will repeat that for a whole bunch of times here is The Empire Strikes Back for example and you can see it's all just edited the oldfashioned way I might throw some color correction on there I have some film and dust overlays that I put on the video to give it more of a vintage Vibe and sometimes I will go in there with color correction and really get the colors looking vintage but by and large that is how I make these little videos and I hope I have answered some of your
