[Applause] Joe presents the house of rugby together with Guinness hello everybody my name is Alex Payne and is a great pleasure to be back for the final one of our House of rugby best of episodes brought you by Joe together as always with our very good friends from Guinness it's a chance to look back at some of the more memorable some of the more enjoyable stories across the course of our first series and this week's show is essentially a Joe man a special I think it's fair to say he came in for a couple of Robert extraordinary visits which lurch from the heartfelt to the sublime and very much onto the utterly ridiculous his spirit of misadventure very much to the fore and over the course of the show you're going to hit plenty of swearing apologies for that some trolling of Israel philau fewer apologies for that and why he retired from England or has he hashtag awkward we will wait and see on that front but it was very much start as you mean to go on I'm giving you nothing okay how's the caravan oh this is not just um where are the people well it could be anyway there on the other side of the camera with a bit of biggest sport we were the biggest most disappointments that this isn't a real house I thought this was that you're we're moving in we're moving into a real house quite soon because if you want to know about your life we follow you on Instagram to know about the trials tribulations of a the caravan but be the leaf blower why have you always got a leaf blower in your hand keep missus on the toes no well you chase around the house yes she's [ __ ] not happy with it and the kids they half like it but like then they get scared especially like when I carry on and they can't breathe my favorite yeah he does it every one of us you follow on this idea I don't talk in regularly but I will look for the last time he talked in 1985 I eat that's all he does every day he's literally blow not sure I want to say it's learn to drink with faces every day but that's probably it appropriate it's not true I don't do it every day I'd pick and choose you can't give it too much or was it gets boring if you do too much all the time it's the same it's redundant it's the same [ __ ] all the time and you're like [ __ ] he's everywhere I mean the belief lies everywhere he's on [ __ ] loose women he's on this soon it's too much you've got hold it back can you use people on Instagram so you don't see their feed but they don't need that you're not following them I haven't looked into that you you like that you like you don't like the trolls so you might lock and unlock everyone so can you block these peeps some follow me if you upset okay you don't have to follow me I can lose one follow I'm not gonna lose sleep with you I like following I feel question last week didn't start as we were wanting you're already you're on a sticky wicket why quick get one cuz he knows that she took you okay and that's not sick irritated or we just plant the camera I place the camera make it perfect ever been angry with you on anything the poshest posh best ever I know you and me I needs these couldn't be any more I'm very surprised you let me but it's nice to count contrast yeah his highlight is microwaved muscles from his local pub as you know what the [ __ ] do you think microwaved muscles are they take a plate of mic muscles that's supposed to be steamed do you normally have him in a white wine garlic sauce rice as you darling as you wonder guy and his pub they put me in a microwave that's like a death hub is how you pub and he says his I would never I would never microwave more marinara he doesn't understand what you just said to him you think it's consciously looking at the wide angle of this put the wide angle back up yeah well it's a little bit like Darwin's theory of evolution isn't it you from one to the to the veterans there to the fully develop version they knew oh it's like Darwinism if he was on a sort of a really crash diet like unit medium unit it's fully developed skinny boy prototype from Philadelphia yeah oh good reference well for the record I would still never microwave marinière and I hope most of you are in full agreement with that fortunately though it wasn't just me that took the brunt of Joe's anger he also reserved a decent chunk of it for both Israel Folau and his England teammate Billy Verner Poehler mainly by trolling them on social media for their controversial takes on homosexuality so what exactly was it that Joe was doing you know just a bit of a light-hearted spin on lolly a situation that I was like come on can you just explain for our nan Jo Marla subscribers I tweeted a picture to Israel flower yeah of two men kissing and just put a love heart next to it did is a reply no still waiting for that I mind you we won't we're not particularly close I don't think we've ever really you know if he's ever replied anyway yeah that's Billy and then Bill you know it's just another little you know come on that'll dig in the ribs just [ __ ] get just leave it just love did he reply no no next time you see him is it big big barracks two big bears hugging that be on him if he took offense will you open your arms to the hug bit probably not no oh really my place force at word but give me the context you are walking down Oxford Street with Daisy after a nice day shopping and there's Billy coming out of cafe Nero with a cup of coffee this is so Partridge with a hot cup of coffee and you bump into each other and at that point you can either walk past hug raise an eyebrow or there's a it depends fight to the run he bumped into me do spill a coffee almond no no spinach all right bill Oh Marla you okay so this Daisy ah hi dais hi Bill hi cool lovely what you're doing just in Oxford Street getting a coffee from cafe Nero yeah I know Alex just told me I hope that's I hope that's how it plays out yeah oh man did you know that the charity Stonewall got in touch with us today to say thank you very much Andy for support from James and Nick it's worth updating actually the flowers about to go and face a Cove Conduct hearing I made a fall following his homophobic social media posts he was I think he wants that yeah what do you where do you stand on it all what's your no I just think he's whether it's right or wrong and I don't believe in what Israel philau put out on social media but that is his beliefs yeah I think you know religion is a tough thing to get right and if he believed in that that's fine but I don't think he should share it over platform where he is a professional sports person where they we always talk about whether you're supposed to be someone who's looked up to you don't ever get into rugby to be idolized or to be a role model you get into for your own reasons because you enjoyed the game or whatever but you know he's allowed to believe whatever he wants to believe that is that is the way of the world you can have an opinion on everything and social media makes that opinions but he shouldn't really be showing you on social media I don't agree with him there's be millions of people who don't but there will be millions of people who do that's very wise as sort of nuanced opinion but sort of puts you in the middle ground which at the moment in life in general is is not yeah joe said and what what hath said last week is everyone should be allowed to be whoever the [ __ ] they want to be and if someone came up to me and told me I'm gonna go to hell because I like to go out and get pissed every once in a while I'll go okay that should bless your beliefs it's quite a traffic effects that you're not going to affect me in any in anyway yeah now I agree with you the issue comes where what you believe in directly affects someone else or affects their life because you're putting it on them or trying to influence them or harass them about what they believe in rather than just I believe in this I believe homosexuals are gonna go to hell right that's what you believe but don't go out and then in a position of yeah power you know to all his fans and all that lot who a lot will be Christian or believe in faiths that think the same but also a huge amount don't think that and he's a rugby player he signed up to be a rugby player so you follow those codes code of conduct and you also have your own beliefs behind closed doors but you know bless not me saying you should keep your religion in your beliefs behind closed doors they're not welcome in the world hatred isn't welcome in the world yeah but if you start putting on people that don't believe in what you believe is well then that's wrong then that's the issue I thought what well again you said about it was quite interesting in the fact that he said in all our times until twelve months ago it's never affected the locker room really I didn't see this so he said it's never affected like it's never actually been an issue but I don't believe he that Israel flowers never been in the company of gay people or and then well he was on the front page of times in Australia how he's ever gone up someone in god you're going to hell yeah so why but then we'll Guinea's now said he also said in that he said well as now because of what happened a year ago it has affected the change because he's put himself before that of the tape yeah whereas he could have done it a year ago I made a mistake he is now actively chosen after being told what you've done isn't really what we want to put out there whether you believe it or not don't do it again and he's then chosen to do what he believed what he believes him more than put the team first in terms of what's best for the team at which he's being in Japan be fascinated be a fly on the wall when he meets up with David Pocock who said he wouldn't marry his girlfriend until same-sex marriages was legalized in Australia is it closer [Laughter] after everything you say you now have to go - no well that's not what yeah it's all about context and that not [ __ ] me well yeah let's go Billie man of the match on Saturday said afterwards he didn't mean to hurt anybody but he believes in what he believes in is it parked now do you think or the fact that he hasn't done like the post and the fact that the noise continues and in some ways were guilty of that as well I mean it she has he has he has he admitted what you were asking for which is I should have kept it to myself but I believe what I believe is that acceptable it'll be more but as Nick said last week and Nick you know has spoke a lot Nick okay yeah Nick was that I didn't really have an issue with Billy yes you know he he wasn't preaching well he was always forced into making a statement because people kept calling him saying yeah and he's using him but I'm sort of putting context into it and he was just trying to put and but there's a great thing about Billy in terms of that is he said look I've done though some of those things on that list so I'm always trying to change so he's just trying to explain I just I just don't think he I think it just didn't any weight just didn't you shouldn't above it but passionate about what you believe in and you feel like you have to defend but again you go back to well I'm a rugby player yeah people know me because I'm a rugby player not because of me sharing my beliefs yeah you know he didn't get it right but I I liked players who offer something even just being released I knew but I think the game needs that well I you know goes back to over spilled to go in but the comment you made on the show is Vernon about as a judge I don't want I'm not looking for stories but if you want to be paid to play rugby union you need to have characters and you need to have stories and you need to have passion points if no one tells those stories and shows those stories and builds the occasion then it's like the old you'll be able to put me on this does a tree make a noise if it falls in the wood when there's no one that I hear it coming I no one cares about rugby I agree with you in your [ __ ] analogies yeah but you don't need players coming out unser I'm I'm going down I can feel myself getting into stinky milk I'm not this has got nothing to do say anyone characters in the game but at the same time that there is a lot of media outlets that push characters out the game because they want to build them up knocking down building up and down and for a player and everyone goes where are the ordinary support in Gaza or where are they all all the foot all the people who've fallen off a cliff because of they are those they had those vulnerabilities in terms of whether it be addiction or something else yeah be to roll roll the roller coaster when it sells papers I'm saying papers more than probably so I've done many ills in my life yeah but that that is the sort of thing and that's why players now get more sterile in terms of they hate they don't want to talk to the media because sometimes you know the one quip that you do say and how it seemed said oh yeah we keep things out of the papers yeah maybe but then we still put stuff that will sell you papers right and again it goes back to headlines and and all that jazz but I just think you don't need to be out letting on social media anything about anything other than the rugby really you don't need to be getting into those discussions because you've never in a win situation has okay its rugby or or meat or meat Marla's me tomorrow's name is the Billy thing done it's got to be chocolate as well I'll let you have some Phegley this wizards chocolate okay well you can get wizards chocolate magic you've got Marla's meeting Tyndall's wand no I need to leave give that taxi earlier please it's the bully thing done as far as you're concerned well Joe with Mike Tindall they're underlining why the game needs enormous characters just like him when he engages he is truly fascinating when he's going half-speed well let's just say you get out what you put in James and Joe we're going to attempt this week's perfect tour courtesy of a Hollywood actors v yeah I [ __ ] did it yeah have you I did that how did I it actually says on the script god help us all so they've preempted I don't like no greater respect I'd rather not be involved in that last sentence god help us all I don't want to offend anyone but okay I also got to help us all bar Joe correct okay don't need his help um you got lucky Heather good well in all seriousness Joe is a truly engaging character extremely good company especially when you've honed down on some of the game's big topics after four ow let's just see what exactly had to say about why he retired from England and whether he had any regrets on calling it a day no you make your choices you live by if Eddie James comes to you pre woke up and says I need you what would you say like what for to come to me for I need another prop to take with me to Japan what [ __ ] am I gonna see special Teddy Jones says Joe I need you to come with me as part of my 33 Man World Cup squad to take on the rest of the world at Rugby World Cup 2019 the vests taking place in Japan come with me [ __ ] off where's going now you'll be out with Julian with the fencing in a minute you know it's gone for pistols you don't go in the very unlikely event that a B guy to me and goes I need you for you to come and hold a pair yeah and do Mako's training yeah I don't know you never say never mind good have you ever have you spoken to very likely have you spoken to him since you retired yes rehearse not in person context on text and he has he ll see whether you reconsider no thank [ __ ] for that nice comes always gonna do it anyway good job you got in there first mate well add nice messages yeah we got a good rapport but it's an often not rugby write it right what's up do with you know it's a bit like it's like so many bits like what when I say bits it means that I'm not gonna tell you what I mean right I'm just gonna say bits if you know what I'm he's implying that he's a bit of a you know loose character but he's absolutely not he's a real family man he lives in [ __ ] off I'll send a no resound like caste he lives in the arse into nowhere takes him for hours he anyway if you asked where Joe Marley's you don't mean the car did you retire from international rugby because you found it tough being away or your family found it tough for you being away for a little bit of both Matt I think it was very much one way and I found it tough being away to do because when it came around to like campaign time and we're watching the game on the on the TV or my son's looking at he's like his daddy why is he not there and also you know a bit like wine you away and the moment daddy and I'm not what you mean but that is that what can you go away oh yeah [ __ ] off oh fast starter yeah yeah but did you wanted knows because we haven't we didn't talk about some guy text you soon as I heard about I appreciate you message thank you i but i all time I've known you I don't think I've ever seen you stroke but I didn't think you ever struggled you always gave hundred percent commitment you always out your style so always that I would sum this up as always appearing not to care but always going hard and if I had always given 100 percent I never I never saw like when you in camp I never thought all your struggling no when when you're there you there yeah you know I mean you buy into it but it was never I might we had some great times yeah it really enjoyed my time and some of the memories are made there but your priorities changing life things happen to you in life and you reshuffle what means the most to you what what you need to prioritize in for me right now my life is prioritizing my family and helping them as much as I can I've got another one on the way very much another one coming in June little boy and you know you've got kids any time we spoke before and yeah I spend a lot of time away from them you miss those moments it's not do it do a couple more years do a couple more years and then you can set yourself up a little bit more than you can spend talk but then you already miss out on those two or three years of trying to teach him to ride a bike because I didn't teach him to ride athletes just because it's one of those things I was there your very first day you came into England camp with that unbelievable haircut with the jolly hog I remember 7000 that one it was bright red mohawk Stars and Stripes stars remember sitting down at the table and looking at across old start and going this bloke there's a red mohawk and stars cut into side of his head and daughters just told me I'll buy the coffee machine that you'd had a fight with him in the first get on a hike who is this bloke he's completely looked like an absolute monster and is yeah I mean you had dyed red mohawk and stars so what we know it's a strong statement that is quite absolute monsters a bit strong isn't it that's the sort of thing you'd say about Gadhafi depends on your essence of all Mugabi friends what your frame of reference is there they're my references I make I make music amuses you said no no I meant monster unit not my monster in you know Pol Pot is murdering all those people I didn't mean that I meant Pol Pot one of the big exam from there we go who is pop pop he's come on help me out I've just made some Colombian so [ __ ] ex back to you Cambodia has allah''says Castle is Cambodian killed my point was I've seen it all the way all the way through and I think of all your rugby that the stuff you're playing now or playing in that without a period of time with some of your best and was it really hard to go actually I'm still getting better and I'm still doing what I do and I know you you joke about their masters training but you're different players but still right out there was it really hard to give her up um yeah it was hard it wasn't like a an easy decision I thought about doing it pre South Africa tour when we went into camp before so obviously we didn't make the playoffs last year close going well this year joint a limp but went into the bar bars camp can't remove that and I was just like literally like that I don't want to do it I'm packing it in and the missus went I'm gonna tell Daisy this so I can't do it I'm done now because she we'd had these fights quite a lot of history whenever camp time would come up at home which she'd sense it it go a little bit like and she'd always convinced me otherwise but you didn't want to do it no she didn't want you to do it no no so it would always she'd always convinced me she's no you'll be fine you'll love it when you get there yeah you always do will be fine it's fine I can I can handle it thanks for my bruh I thought it was almost like she had said to you you need to do it no she's still even so the south after I said I'm going she said no look you can't I know when what do you mean that's a bit of a different country well I've already put this holiday was my friends and the kids oh yeah she said but the time that you're away so it would mean that you I love oh you can come with one but it was like I don't really want you to come with so go and do the tour yeah see how you feel at the end of it and then make your decision there right you've served me doing it so you can still go Nala day what I lovely I made what an amazing lady I love that and even when I did make the decision she went I'm I I when I read about it because I hadn't talked about I remember I sent your message and you wrote back then yeah interesting times may I come back to you so I didn't go out nor was you up because obviously you know when your mates peering roboworld you kind of you know past each other from time to time you don't get off obviously get spend a lot of time with each other I actually came in because I read about friends and family wants to say I said to so Chloe yeah you know at some point would you ever say to me because that's what I thought your wife had said to you and she was like the shoes Wow something but something rugby or it's me or some do some do some pressure and that's what I was thinking that's what I thought and I've seen myself going on if that if some you shouldn't be with that person yes Chloe would never never say that but I I'd stupidly I just interpreted that's what would happened and you got may see this and I'm struggling with the kids or whatever I wasn't putting words into one's mouth I thought that's what happened but I would then thought one day when I was like 40 I would have woken up one day and been really resentful but it's actually really interested he that she was saying actually you go and do it I'm gonna hundreds it'll support you we don't need it with fire we can put you're gonna have a great time and you were the one saying actually no I didn't I didn't know it was that way is really eye-opening did you know you said that third test you sure yeah did you know then because you had a hell of a game in the final final today yeah my mind had been mad I love that tool I know we lost to one or whatever and you know it was a bit of a spiral from continued from the Six Nations but it was a brilliant tool the group that was there did a lot of like growing a lot of youngsters coming through and and we had a great time off the pitch as well but I'd kind of made my mind up then and to actually see out the final game and finish it off with a human emotional a chat I mean none of us knew at the end yeah I was done there I remember we were sure obviously I it was about 50 yeah I don't know should I say yes again yeah sure why not gonna get in trouble now well don't go too mad and is about 50 or 60 minutes in the last test and y'see Scott wise might not came on and he was like night the boss said you've got five more minutes and I went wiser you can tell him get [ __ ] see he was like no I'm not good to do that job and then he ran off with the waters so carried on about another ten minutes went and he came back on I said bosses right last if it mate last couple of minutes I said why's he honestly you've got the mic on now tell the boss get [ __ ] I'm staying on mate with seeing this [ __ ] job out and why is that okay so I'm gonna have to you're serious aren't you and he was like I don't know whether he actually did or not but he must've cuz he walked off did that boy walked off I was shattered yeah brilliant finished to the game Dan made my decision we're in the after match function bit and I'm sat there on one of the stores with a couple of boys got a glass of red and someone taps him on the shoulder and it was Eddie and he turns I [ __ ] loved it and I was like what [ __ ] love it Oh what he's like you know you know and I was like yeah well I wasn't sure my you know I mean because you know it could go both ways but because of my mindset of where I was at you then don't really think of repercussions of hanging a mate I've just told the bottom of the duct I didn't mean get [ __ ] bear in mind that I've been burnt with stuff I say more than what you've said although that is a brilliant story but I want to ask you the same question relative to the Lions 2017 and that Wellington game was that was that a scenario where you've didn't couple I come over they were called the seven who geography sick jog refer sakes was that the you guys wouldn't come off for those members of the geography six was that complete fiction what so now the thirty one will go one all game and they don't store e that that you guys weren't prepared to let the geography six and cat for the Lions because they hadn't heard a cap for the Lions not quite the way you've said it what's the what's the tree on tree was on the sides Graham ground tree was on the side doing the subs or whatever yeah and it was a tight game was quite tight and those about ten minutes to go and pause in play because it was like that's [ __ ] blowing here we need tonight put your foot on the ball to chill coldest blowing to fact detectives and I looked over and I saw wig telling the boys to warm up and get ready I was like wig it's not [ __ ] at me mate it's not fact because what was my Quinn's coach so yeah we had a good relationship I said it's not [ __ ] happening mate we're gonna [ __ ] see this job off and win it we didn't withdrew say 100 when we could have actually done with them coming on as fresh legs maybe winning it but yeah you win some you lose what you had a blind for the lines I could represent yeah when right in those games that [ __ ] was all right well I think watch this space is the best way forward on this one we shall see in the fullness of time but something else that we might see over the next few years is hask and Joe on reality TV it's no surprise of course if you know anything of James it is perhaps more of a shock where Joe is concerned do you want to just fill the nice people in about what you've been doing last week it was better magazine this week I understand you've been on something called ITV's small fortune is there nothing you will not do where would you draw the line if dancing on ice or celebrity show jumping I'm said that you're meant to answer this question but I am waiting for I'm a slippery is one of my favorite shows honestly it is one of my favorite shows would used to show on ITV and it's what you do would you go on I'm waiting for this man are you gonna go will it be gold how many times do they ask you it's a possibility yes really make it happen make Apple I just don't find where you get done for bullying I don't think myself live cameras is a good idea do you not think as you think it's a bit that's why you have to pre-record this yeah I think I think you know I know quite asked me only those dancing shows because the font I'm terrible at dance here I'm already built for dancing yes yes who does wins yeah I could do that who dares wins that protein yes I can do that I'll avoid you SSI gaze travels you bastard of course what do you do what bargain hunt Rogue Traders bad man traders badly patio driveways and stuff like that what would you do with what's the question Joel question is so general what would you do if you don't mean if you had to go on a celebrity television program Joe Gatto which one would it be Oh words in mark really love thank you I would love Big Brother I think you would the problem with it being there is that with you and what we come on Terry so you never know what you're gonna get in the morning no I but sometimes you wake up and I say we were in England camp but I'll see you by the buffet and I'll be like Joe well what do you want to call the spread of food water trough or something but definitely don't collect the fare fine well the buffet and I got Joe and I go Joe how are you [ __ ] off ask you all right there'll be one morning next mate I'm like Joe how are you you're like tappman shall we go good mate how are you I'm right [ __ ] you just never know we're gonna get so in Big Brother one day you could wake up have you never thought that that's possibly a defensive mechanism because I've been hurt so many times in my life that I then don't want to get people too close to me so I'm then make them on edge rather than vice-versa credit where credit's due he is good he's very good it's a hundred miles there it's normal its brake accelerate accelerate brake well it's time for a break soon on this the best of House of rugby and speaking of breaks here and Marla and tins on what rugby players do for their summer vacations relax by the pool or dance until dawn you know I'd be fair you must love a family holiday I be fair ain't taking kids I'd be fair I mean does everybody head to the same in the same category Vegas single shaggers on low sort of money they're gonna shag aloof Mallya might even you know stretched a bit of my beaver but they're not getting into the ocean club VIP there they're actually the people thinking of the Dragons oh yeah let me know your so that's the bloody cocktail rabid and then you got the big dogs singles the old Vegas boys and all that lots and then the family guys to just go get a feather and you know read books like you buy me do you know where do you get a villa read your books Portugal do Sardinia well that's nice actually where's that Sicily no Italy Sardinia yeah yeah well they make sardines where is it oh is it Santorini you should go to Italy that's a great one for you in the air for you in yeah I'd like Santorini one I yeah why why do you know what you get a month six five weeks in force now for five weeks enforced right two three weeks completely do you stay fit during it two weeks you are I love a bit of gym I'm gonna do a bit gym but what did not running no running this I shouldn't be allowed right in the game itself we'll just in training it's not just all the time just or not all the time yeah so you will you do weights during the season where there used to be what offseason yeah what was your eyes I never had five weeks my life what did you have a week good a week off oh you have to count all when you come back in and the literally they say oh you can have two weeks but will frown upon if you have more than week well then the rpi have done relatively well in fighting that battle so you are watching and listening to house of rugby brought you by Joe together with our very good friends at Guinness now don't forget you can watch and download some of our other shows including Swami's cricket show with grams so on and TKO with Carl Frampton of course and this week the boxing boys have been speaking to Tommy Coyle recently been in New York about his future 23 years I've been fighting Oh abs on every single death 23 years score the gym and I will fight and trim that and [ __ ] but you can't do for another trait for years someone that's the thing some point has to come to an end he's had realized the last year and a half of my career to be in the best hmm all new mates and that was some great great fight you've been all over the world and it's hard to thing that that's it well that was Tommy coil in a very emotional interview about his future on Tico this week this however is house of rugby with me Alex Payne and part four of our summer best of series focusing on the man the myth the legend that is mr. Joe Marla to the biggest things that we talked about actually during his time with us was Samson Lee and first his fight on the pitch with the HASC will get into the nuts and bolts in just a moment but here is James on what was said when the fight was all over I said really sorry I lost my head any when you did I wouldn't yeah but yeah you said gotta laugh I said I got what is it one mill that's what he says every time he does yes well now you're well played but I brought this this with me whoa in case you ripoff yeah that really did you tuck it away afterwards yeah I did here cuz he pulled it off the prick you break it we probably did cost I'm looking at myself with the reflections it's not on straight it's actually very odd see people wearing those in what everybody obviously what was going through your mind in that you never lose it [ __ ] you're always the one getting other boys yeah you're on it yeah gags in all that does that make it the ultimate triumph as a result I'm extremely proud this is one of the proudest moments that I have been involved in the film III would say that there was there was this has been building for a couple of years I want to give that the context behind it when I was captain [ __ ] me off when I was captain right of wasp before I got fired for unceremoniously while you fired I don't know no we do actually it was through the boat trip that I had nothing's if I can do with anyway I mean you were fired as in fired as captain or fired from the club I was eventually fired from the club but I was I was I would didn't get Java's captain because it's literally going further on me and it's not worth it our listeners yeah husk is wearing the red scrum cap that Joe the ear holes are gone where he grabbed it and then squatches will trap you a yellow card running yeah right so you know the bread would have been the ultimate let me confer good and sent off I'll explain so what's played Harlequins I was captain JP Doyle was referee he this was when I was also right Lazydays half a season Joe has a bit of a laissez-faire attitude to both things right life so we're out in the field and every time I went to speak with all Joe would come out of nowhere go and well hats you know you know and just getting in my face and then he would be abusing JP so much so that when I went to speech JP he went no I'm not speaking to you right and the whole game Joe was speaking to him and you wouldn't let me talk to about anything kept sending me away like a naughty schoolboy and under the posts someone had given a penalty way and Joe came over come on ask all your teammates to cheat you make you got to sort it out and I was honest and I didn't talk to him I just pretended he wasn't there but what I didn't get was obviously I didn't get captaincy but what I did get was that you obviously approach captaincy differently yeah I thought I could have a chat with you yeah I'll get some chat back that's what you know I just talked to as a bloke and Madinah Wragge yeah yeah yeah why you were staying in character of Captain husk yeah why why didn't you just be husk from it that's what I can't no I can't be seem to laugh or thinking in front of my soldiers and more hearing captaincy tips as the world comes you it was more because you know I'm serious operator smooth operator so anyway you know this is serious so close you know that you know that like when it comes that's the one thing that people always get really confused about did you just sense a serious operator hmm just yes yeah but Norwich ready it completes the look right so basically what we come to I'm really sorry to involve you in this [ __ ] shambles I've learned some new words so essentially you've won that game yes I know we had so we had seven attempts that go keep in front of the post yeah no you beat us know when that time it was one of you had a comeback you came back every time we beat she beats my two points of my gate yeah didn't you did you did a promise shoot it so basically was it all the wheels can browse well no I don't want to bet that okay fine um no but one thing everyone always says means I we joke around you do stuff but when you're when I cross that when you're sitting your rugby yeah your rugby house so I couldn't I wouldn't I just couldn't deal with it I was like I'm serious I'm being for your noise that people don't get that about you do then I think cause you're everywhere on every single channel on every single show they think that you don't take rugby seriously which is unfair well actually I blog because he does he's one of the most professional people I know don't stop there working dedicated lovely responsible funny said it all for me Haskell but then Q this game I hadn't played in six weeks as he was there Eddy was there and playing six weeks I came on the field Joe was in one of his silly mood he was in one of his silly moods and he pulled my scrum cap on it's not right [ __ ] hell he's such an awesome laughing and pushing and like so what yeah but I pulled you scrum cap off and you'd lost the plot or whatever but I'd managed to I know I seen it yeah so that's what they didn't say I took his scrum cap and then walked off to the waters and then lobbed it lobbed it over there so he he'd had to walk past us and what people what other people didn't see as well and he should be getting a retrospective yellow card for it is that Danny Kerr did it before me as well as after squirrel in before so then ask some [ __ ] trotting along like that and I was like Heath [ __ ] David he needs to cool down this one I wanted yeah and then Jordan thing was is that Joe the first carry or something that we don't see it's like Joe you'll you'll get tackled by Joe he'll he'll go because he hits you hard feel like tread on a foot hold you down push you over and then I'll do it with a smile on his face it does it training all the time right you know you always know if he's in a silly mood you you're done never done that before you know does it every session so I then was not right I've lost this and I thought I don't hit Joe because obviously a I get trouble to be out he's a mate so I'm gonna give him the Vulcan death grip so I just thought that would be just enough because I don't call me in trouble for choking someone else no rule in the book about that and I was so angry I don't think the hand behind the neck was necessary man because I wanted to clamp you in yeah big neck yeah a lot like very aggressive you've got a lot of liquid so I can't really get my hand around it I've got skewed fingers as we know so then I was walking off he's he's quite the water Danny care didn't move with the water and I looked at Danny I thought would be like hitting a child I was like I really like Danny is what I've known Danny longer than I've known Joe and I thought to myself I can't do it constantly giving a [ __ ] ever since is if I'm gonna as if we weren't late so I basically up to Joe off as I was laughing oh you absolutely dumb me there I'd no I have no intentions to get you as it's not a yellow card offence come on like he strangled me we've had a bit of a tussle and you know but did you let yourself down no you do it again yeah forretress stoop yeah months I will be there you did quite a lot of win G to the referee can't do that because the point is that all you wanted to play was consistency I'm like hold on a minute what he's a specialist at it he's got a black belt in being a pain in the ass yeah but have you ever looked back at that instant and gone and listen to yourself go sir he put my scrub pad and he squirted water in my face and you're not allowed to do that yeah have you not gone yourself water what you mean I'm Chuck to load a [ __ ] acid yeah yeah but you in real terms you go horror out that [ __ ] bloke with the Mohawk the pricks throwing water on my face he's wound me out he's made me look like a [ __ ] I've strangled him [ __ ] Yellowcard him you can't sir it's a referee she got her saw who's done this and it so people got always squirt water I got listen this [ __ ] prick his [ __ ] throat war in my face he's mugged me off or rip his eyes out sent you sign it now yeah yeah tough guy yeah mr. big time yeah but no so but then ever since you lost it I didn't didn't any punch cards I didn't know it's like Tomatoes control and that was a lot a warpath this is quite hot potato but I'm gonna throw it at you anyone see with you chocolate Sampson Lee discuss what would you like me to discuss about him he's a tight reflection for Wales you scarlet your reflections reflection yeah of the incident that happened in 2016 we spoke the following year in the corresponding fixture and is he a person who said to you don't worry about a storm in a teacup or was he irritated by it I just think he used the word storm in a teacup yeah probably not his it was more you know did he sorry mate you know just so don't worry Barry he didn't have an issue you didn't have an issue on the day yeah and he didn't have an issue with it or he didn't what he didn't want to get he's quite a private guy yeah in the whole four or a that very good that is the first time we use one then big words in the right sentence all that big it's only six letters long seven one now followed he'd him he didn't get involved in any of it he didn't want to get involved in any of the hearing it wasn't interesting just wanted it to go away what I did was wrong and I served my two weeks ban and paid my fine I do you think it was blown out of proportion hugely it's your opinion James but I find I say in my opinion because I was late in the game playing that game I had my own luck with spice into the mix as well what did you do well myself remotely incriminate was someone completely mad Alex but I lead us to say I was there because because actually sticking up for me went yeah because actually he got my back I suck up through the paper drum roll them phone calls as well I did when I came out I did I just know I was there and obviously things were said to Joe and Joe said things I just think that it's I think a lot of it was like pressure you put pressure from other people it's just like I just think especially fine yet to pay you I think was just madness what was the fine twenty thousand pounds but I just think if you're gonna draw I just think it's a very hard situation I remember when I first heard I was blown away by I just felt there's so much pressure an excess thing put on to do something that that maybe people just got a little bit carried away but what is your relationship with the media if I can back that time it wasn't particularly good post world place world cup they mind around the world cup I'd managed to insult that penis about is I've managed to tell pretty much every member of the media particularly the paper media to [ __ ] off at some point or rather Charlie Sal was the one who didn't really like why I moaned about [ __ ] he said some of the rivers in the Penny Hill 10 media tent were rusty and and it wasn't any that's right I remember before our and volatile it was soggy and I'd cynics and then I went and had a look see how bad it really was because the way described it was really bad you made out of a third world all right I'm gonna go look at this thing and I looked over in those who were these um bacon rolls in the corner not [ __ ] having one of them don't know it did that one everybody guess and then but there's no ketchup so I took a picture of the bacon rolls that had been put on for them and said you're right charlie is [ __ ] in here don't even ketchup out and he didn't really enjoy a bit of star in the column for the next three days did ya he mentioned that it saw me in a local coffee shop one thing down some chocolate cake [ __ ] Judas yes line that in it is what wait what a salad I hate stuff stuff that that's what pisses me off about you were gonna say coming event oh well I might add I just can't I was gonna say the classic path that's been walked by many sportsmen before is that for of poacher turned gamekeeper and I like now that I'm a but I can interview you and and and just sort of getting a sense he really didn't like me do full stop although patina trust the media no I can see that but now that you've sort of retired from international sport what are you doing well I'm interested now because you what you were saying about the put the path of questioning was you didn't like the media but but you're doing loads more stuff now yeah I think I've always thought you had a very funny personality when you apply seven we're interesting people always go Joe Marla so funny blah blah blah Pleasant words you you now you're now do more I think it's good we wasted millions things don't you you go through experiences yeah yeah flat bit yeah bits you've experienced that nothing you know Joe's best best stories right best shagging story met a bird right settle down got married [Laughter] the story honestly it's really nice yes pretty good what this lovely lovely Ming Chloe here you well true love as always wins out on the house of rugby and speaking of love it was interesting to dig into how much players love the game well whether they simply see it as a job it's a job where you asking me yes oh these are percentages between job and passion mister job 100% job it's my job I cannot passionate about it I'm passionate about like winning I'm passionate about being competitive yeah but wouldn't say I'm not passionate about rugby really a little bit do you want me to say something else exactly the same task okay something really wrong don't you say something else no no you can say whatever you like it's a rugby show choice every player is it a purely a job no I didn't you said you asked me a question Oh matter well I'll broaden my answer by saying I don't [ __ ] know go ask them it's not do you know it's nice it's a job something but sometimes it feels less enough sometimes it feels like a job you hate it but then a lot of the time when you hanging out with 30 of us mates it's it's a job that you really enjoy but it is a job it is what I'm hearing 9:00 till 4:00 so your day nine till four no five you get days five till five you get up at 5 a.m. yeah as I live in the arse end of nowhere yes that's the day they asked said last time I was in their truck you have a fight out how many days a week to get up at 5 a.m. 5 4 4 4 days Jesus and what side you have to be in the club 7:00 7:30 see I was being yeah that I could see it oh my it's a job it's a job but that doesn't mean just cause I'm not casual about it I love it I love doing it yeah do I get time well don't you go to bed depends what's on Game of Thrones dose light on that you into that [ __ ] into it right by you so that's way possible but not sure they was happy about an area getting nailed on her I'm sorry spoiler alert oh yeah stupid to figure out all she was yeah but she's not so yeah yeah bit weird well some parts of the job are always more fun than others just ask cask and marla particularly when it comes to Chris Robshaw years ago Chris Robshaw when he got his very first cap in Argentina we told him that if you went up on stage and sung a song we'd all join him up there his first cap so you got up there anyway those who John Byrne I just like to call out the rescuing the team need to put a voice on oh you're the same out final Acosta's mm-hmm not really my blob oh let's go to school I went to Wellington yeah where did we go to school no felt okay slightly different carry on yeah but Robert death sounds more posh than I am no he's moving in a higher circle I mean to you ever he moves in height so much more hype rope like high end high end version of me 47th best man best-dressed GQ yeah smells good yeah that's good I smell good anyway so so basically no perfect pan so robber get robber gets up and goes right lads we're gonna sink build me up buttercup to cop baby worry about me down and nobody came out right and the brass band started joining in and it's always dignities on TV like water or burn we'll make more Robbo waited until we won a [ __ ] grand slam game five minutes off the bench my fiftieth cap everybody is in [ __ ] hell daggers right and then Robbo gets up on stage goes right lads first special day James house was made fifty years how did lights come up and sing and I looked she looked and I was like are you [ __ ] serious Robbo cold gone up and I looked around and it was literally like Lancaster's like laser eyeing me everyone was like that everyone's on suicide watch and I just started singing you never close your eyes I go back to the stage don't worry I've got this you never close your eyes anymore when I kiss your lips and I started serenading these big bits of kit for like the Brits and kit for some how are you are a few or WRU whatever getting really into it right and all the world's boy started singing and dancing on all the English boys were like sort of joining in the wrestlers like that's what you don't I went for the full thing serenade e-everyone you know love and bead honestly I mean if she brought the house down but that was it it was that last bit you said brought the house down yeah you know I did you don't when t2 elv South Africa did we you on that talk yeah of course it was well sorry for not realising it's my first tour and you don't really talk to people as when we'd got up and done our songs which I was more nervous about than playing than actually playing what did you say to myself to the Adel someone like you Oh smashed it I never forget my first song I know it's not your story you've just said one all right we have this dream out well then on the same bus journey I'll sat next to Johnny Mae I know Johnny like you know I've got a bit of longtree be really good for morale if you got up and did ice ice baby because he knows it word for word like be great for my own sake but I am kappa Joe I haven't been capped [ __ ] do it welcome here sit down now you [ __ ] Brit and he goes like Johnny keep going through sit back down he finish it I know all the abuse he got and he was sat there like this his like oh you said it would be good sorry I didn't see that do you run with him we came through age groups together you stole his shoe and gave him foot problems in you you stole his inserts you sure gave him a foot problem the new [ __ ] Judas did you yeah I was responsible for stealing his trainer one of his trainers orthotics he blames me for having fasciitis yeah he did he got was something good yeah what is some fasciitis thing with bottoms foot he got yeah only because he didn't go and get a new orthotic for like four months well it's your own fault well not for a minute with those two and speaking of laughs it is guinness perfect poor time our weekly tests in 119 and a half seconds because that is how long it takes to pour the perfect pint of Guinness we will see you next week with Rugby royalty not mr.
