in christ jesus in today's gospel passage we see the temptation of jesus and how jesus came overcame all these temptations and jesus sets a great role model for us how we need to overcome temptations in life this is a season of prayer fasting and alms giving and jesus does exactly that for 40 days he spends his time in prayer and fasting and seeking god's will for his life and that is when he gets tempted and he says this was tempted for 40 days dear friends temptation comes to our lives temptation will be there it is a test the test is to make us stronger not to make us weaker in common condition are you relying on your strength or strength of god so let's come to the first temptation jesus is hungry after fasting and satan comes and tempts him saying that make this stone into bread and eat and jesus responds by quoting scripture that is man cannot live by bread alone but every word which comes from the mouth of god dear friends yes we cannot live by bread alone we think yes we need good food that is good food is needed for our spiritual growth but we all have a spiritual man for a spiritual man we need nourishment from the word of god word of god only nourishes when we grow in word of god we are spiritually grow you have plant a small plant and you put water for one day today and after five days you don't put water it will die same thing for us also we have a spiritual man within us if you want to grow spiritually we should grow every day israelites collected mana daily in the same way we are supposed to collect mana the mana is the word of god every day we should spend some time in word of god and holy mass is an opportunity where we are nourished not only by word but body of christ one who receives the body of christ he has eternal life if you want eternal thoughts should be filled with word of god jesus overcame all the temptation by quoting scripture he didn't quote he didn't give a justification so only if you are filled with the word of god will be able to overcome the temptation and jesus is a model for us he quoted the word of god second thing the temptation is that satan showed all the riches he said i am ready to give you everything but one condition worship me and again here jesus quotes the first commandment worship god only worship only god what is the greatest commandment love your god with all your heart all your mind all your strength that is the first commandment we can get detached from god some people worship god some some people worship money some people worship their carrier their profession and many things some people worship certain idol icons it can be a celebrity it can be a sports star and so on for them they become their role model or gurus or idol you should ask yourself what is your first place you're giving in your life is it god or something else if you're giving first place to anything else other than god that is your god because you're given the first place you're not giving first place to god and our responsibility is to love god with all our heart all our mind and all our strength is my dear friends and this lenten season offers us to detach everything which keeps us addicted and hooked which is stopping us from being intimate with god you should understand what is that keeping me addicted and hooked it's a season to remove all those clutters remove all those things which keeps us detached from god and this london season is a season where we become attached to god where we grow in union with god and the third temptation he says he takes up to the mountain he says gem come on gem and word of god says he is satan is also quoting word of god he says angels come and save you angels can come and save you but jesus responds do not test god do not test god israel people was waiting for a messiah they thought they will be going to come a king with mighty power and and they will he will rule them but jesus came as a messiah in a different form we see in all movies when of satan you wouldn't have achieved his purpose dear friends satan comes as tricks us with many things to live a comfortable life easy life do something mal practices in our career so that we can have easy comfortable life and not to be concerned and bothered about other things and we do our own purposes but god has a each and e each purpose is for everyone has unique purposes for everyone you should understand that and do that because what if god says if you want to be a disciple deny yourself carry a cross and follow me that means you as a father you as a mother have a responsibility that includes sacrifice taking upon your responsibility and following jesus life is not always bread of roses it is requires sacrifice and self-denial then only we can be true disciple let jesus be a true model for us of prayer fasting and almsgiving that jesus asked us to love god and love neighbor and this season is a season to love neighbor we may think okay others are in problem okay let them do whatever they want god may help them if you have a person next to you is in real trouble reach out to him because god works through you that is our commandment to love neighbor let our eyes not be shut for the needs of neighbor let us take jesus our model to overcome all our temptations by remaining humble giving first place to god and grow in word of god every day may god bless us all let us
