of the son and of the holy spirit amen the grace of our lord jesus christ and the love of god and the communion of the holy spirit be with you all and with your spirit we are called to become disciples in the kingdom of god and we are given the mission to serve for the times that we have not served through our actions through our words and to our convictions we ask for pardon and forgiveness you are sent to heal the contrite of heart lord have mercy lord have mercy you came to call sinners christ have mercy christ have mercy you are seated at the right hand of the father lord have mercy lord have mercy may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life amen glory to god in the highest and on earth peace to people of good will we praise you we bless you we adore you we glorify you we give you thanks for your great glory lord god heavenly king o god almighty father lord jesus christ only begotten son lord god lamb of god son of the father you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us you take away the sins of the world receive our prayer you are seated at the right hand of the father have mercy on us for you alone are the holy one you alone are the lord you alone are the most high jesus christ with the holy spirit in the glory of god the father amen let us pray oh god who founded all the commands of your sacred law upon love of you and of our neighbor granted by keeping your precepts we may merit to attain eternal life through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever amen a reading from the book of wisdom the godless say to themselves let us lie in wait for the virtuous man since he annoys us and opposes our way of life reproaches us for our breaches of the law and accuses us of playing false to our upbringing let us see if what he says is true let us observe what kind of end he himself will have if the virtuous man is god's son god will take his part and rescue him from the clutches of his enemies let us test him with cruelty and with torture and thus explore this gentleness of his and put his endurance to the proof let us condemn him to a shameful death since he will be looked after we have his word for it the word of the lord thanks be to god [Music] by your is save me and by your might defend my cross oh god hear my prayer hearken to the words [Music] have risen up against me the ruthless seek my life they said not god before their eyes [Music] behold god is my helper the lord sustains my life freely will i offer you sacrifice i will praise your name o lord for its goodness [Music] a reading from the letter of saint james wherever you find jealousy and ambition you find disharmony and wicked things of every kind being done whereas the wisdom that comes down from above is essentially something pure it also makes for peace and is kindly and considerate it is full of compassion and shows itself by doing good nor is there any trace of partiality or hypocrisy in it peacemakers when they work for peace sow the seeds which will bear fruit in holiness where do these wars and battles between yourselves first start isn't it precisely in the desires fighting inside your own cells you want something and you haven't got it so you are prepared to kill you have an ambition that you cannot satisfy so you fight to get your way by force why you don't have what you want is because you don't pray for it when you do pray and don't get it it is because you have not prayed properly you have prayed for something to indulge your own desires the word of the lord thanks be to god [Music] god has called us through the gospel to possess the glory of our lord jesus christ [Music] the lord be with you and with your spirit a reading from the holy gospel according to mark glory to you jesus and his disciples made their way through galilee and he did not want anyone to know because he was instructing his disciples he was telling them the son of man will be delivered into the hands of men they'll put him to death and three days after he had been put to death he would rise again but they did not understand what he said and were afraid to ask him they came to kaphanam and when he was in the house he asked them what were you arguing about on the road they said nothing because they had been arguing which of them was the greatest so he sat down and called the twelve to him and said if anyone wants to be first he must make himself last of all and servant of all he then took a little child set him in front of them put his arms around him and said to them anyone who welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me and anyone who welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me the gospel of the lord praise to you lord jesus christ brothers and sisters in today's gospel jesus took his disciples away from the crowd and spoke openly to them the second time about his death and crucifixion that awaited him at jerusalem the response from the apostles was almost unbelievable they were afraid to ask him and chose to remain silent simply because the apostles found the message as disturbing as they were more caught up dreaming about the prestige and power that they would enjoy when jesus comes in his glory the disciples passion for power is related to the idea of the messiah who is beyond suffering and death deep inside jesus must have felt disappointed and saddened but continue to stay committed to the will of his father and his mission to preach the good news and proclaim the unfolding of god's kingdom in the midst of his people the path taken by jesus in obedience to the father's will would eventually lead him to the cross the gospel message preached by jesus was no doubt challenging unsettling and radical as there is a call for conversion of hearts and mindsets in order to embrace the upside down gospel values of forgiveness non-violence and being powerless where the last the insignificant the weak the powers are seen as favored in god's eyes and given first places in god's kingdom when jesus became aware of the argument amongst his disciples on the road as to who was the greatest among them here he used a very powerful visual aid to nip the problem in the bud when he brought a child before them and urged to welcome one of these little ones considered as no bodies in their society in fact jesus showed solidarity and identified with the lowly persons at the bottom rank of his society this was clearly seen in his life and ministry when he reached out to the people on the fringe of society the undesirable the dispensable and the marginalized as in the case of the hearing impaired person in last week's gospel and this would come as a terrible blow to the apostles were looking more towards places of honor and recognition for themselves but what was clearly put across to them by jesus was that the kingdom mission was centered on service and not on power and authority we have seen many examples in the secular and corporate world where there is always a power struggle to keep ahead at all cause simply put a person has to watch his or her back so as to stay in the running as the favorite in the organization as such there's so much energy spent trying to eliminate or neutralize one's competitors to remain on the top of the corporate ladder the sad thing is that secular obsession of being competitive being in control and power struggle has also crept into the life of the church and the church's communities and this has given rise to hatred division and bitterness that prevent our communities from growing and being creative within in short we have become counter witness to our identity as christ's disciples and in the words of the late mohandas gandhi he said i like your christ but not your christianity when we become orientated towards service in the kingdom of god we begin to acknowledge the goodness in the other person and help the other person realize his or her potential there was once when the late mother teresa was asked this question as this person saw her serving the poorest of the poor in calcutta and the question posed to her was why do you do this most of them are not even christians her response was simply i care for jesus in each of them mother teresa was able to go beyond the externals status and circumstances to see the importance of the person's dignity as a human person and she said if you can't feed a hundred person then just feed one many years ago i had this chance to meet this doctor stationed in china together with his family he was helping to prevent blindness among children at a very young age what amazed me about the doctor was that he desired to help another human being without looking for recognition and incentives when i told him that he was doing a marvelous and a wonderful job as a christian his reply was simply i'm also learning from the people i serve so my dear people when we commit ourselves to service in god's kingdom we are going to speak in a new and radical language that has upside down christian values we then move away from the human-made structures that wants to divide control and oppress the other person to something more simply basic and beautiful that every person is a child of god with a dignity and filled with goodness and has the right to the blessings and privilege given by god to his children and so as disciples of christ let us be aware that service is at the heart of our christian life and the challenge here is to translate our intangible experience of god within our hearts to a visible tangible experience to others on the social and horizontal dimension there are challenges to be faced especially in this pandemic times because we do not have any definite answers at this point of time but when we humble ourselves as a little child and allow the holy spirit to guide us then we will never know how many people we can touch through our words actions and conviction even if it means only one particular individual who is touched by the love and compassion of god amen brothers and sisters let us take this moment to renew our baptismal promises by professing the apostles creed i believe in god the father almighty creator of heaven and earth and in jesus christ his only son our lord who was conceived by the holy spirit born of the virgin mary suffered under pontius pilate was crucified died and was buried he descended into hell on the third day he rose again from the dead he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of god the father almighty from there he will come to judge the living and the dead i believe in the holy spirit the holy catholic church the communion of saints the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body and life everlasting amen with open hearts and grateful spirits let us bring our needs and the needs of our will to our lord our response lord hear our prayer lord hear our prayer that the church will serve the people of god with humility and joy let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that civic and political leaders set aside all selfish ambition and political rivalries in order to uphold the common good and build the kingdom of god let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer the children throughout the world dwell in safety and security and in knowledge of the love of their creator let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that our parish community of saint mary of the angels continue to serve those we encounter with compassion and so be instruments of peace in our families and communities let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer and in a special way let us pray for our own personal intentions and for people who have asked us to remember them in our prayers we pray for the sick the dying and the terminally ill and especially those who are struggling in this kobe 19 pandemic we pray for people who are facing natural disasters in this world where they have lost lives they have lost properties give them the grace to begin to build up their lives again we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer god our wisdom cleanses from every sin that separates us from you so that we may be bearers of your light and life to the world hear our prayers for we ask them through christ our lord amen god forever blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness you have received the wine we offer you through the vine and work of human hands it will become our spiritual drink blessed be god forever pray dear brothers dear sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the father almighty may the lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name for our good and the good of all his holy church receiveth favor o lord we pray the offerings of your people that what they profess with devotion and faith may be theirs to these heavenly mysteries through christ our lord amen the lord be with you and with your spirit lift up your hearts we lift them up to the lord let us give thanks to the lord our god it is right and just it is truly right and just our detain our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god for you so loved the world that in your mercy you sent us the redeemer to live like us in all things but sin so that you might love in us what you loved in your son by whose obedience we have been restored to those gifts of yours that by sinning we have lost in disobedience and so lord with all the angels and saints we too give you thanks as in exaltation we acclaim [Music] heaven and earth [Music] oh [Music] of the lord [Music] you are indeed holy o lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down a spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving you thanks gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith [Music] therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread to all the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope and willem our bishop the clergy and your holy people remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all have died in a mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles saint francis and claire said anthony and all the saints have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be quest eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever [Music] brothers and sisters we want to pray in this powerful prayer that jesus taught us as his
