- Do you know how old I am? - Ah, 28? - 80? - From 28 to 80-- - Sorry. - My name is Miriam. - It's nice to meet you, Miriam, my name's Crystal. - What do you do at home? - Well, I'm retired but I used to be a lawyer. - Ah-- - What's a lawyer again Justin? - Do you know what a lawyer does? - Not exactly but I heard of what a lawyer does and I keep on forgetting. - So I've got Alzheimer's, have you heard of Alzheimer's? - No. - Alzheimer's is a disease. It's weird, because I look normal and I can talk, but when I go home, I will have forgotten what you and I talked about. - Oh. - Yeah, oh what's that, it's that thing that goes around eating things. - You mean Pacman? - Pacman, yes, well there's a Pacman in my brain, going around eating my brain (laughs). Yeah. - Maybe you could just create a Ghost in your brain, and then eat Pacman and go bye-bye and then the Ghost goes away. - Sure, absolutely, why not (laughs). I forgot where I was going, I forgot what I was going to say. - What's your favorite food? - Well, I'm a vegetarian. Are you a vegetarian? Ah, I'm so proud of you. Why are you vegetarian? - 'Cause I don't like to kill. - Oh. - I don't like hurting 'em but for some reason, I like eating 'em. - I know. - Do you remember what you had for lunch? - I don't have a clue. Do you remember what you ate for lunch yesterday? - Peanut butter and jelly sandwich. - You've got really great memories. Do you ever forget things? - When I put the remote down and go to get something, when I come back in the room, I forgot where the remote was. I have to search the entire room. (Miriam laughs) - My Dad is kinda like that, when my Mom asks him to do something, he doesn't do it, every single time, and he always says, I forgot, I forgot, I forgot, I forgot, I forgot, I forgot, I forgot, I forgot, I forgot. - What else do you forget? - How old I am, sometimes I think I'm six, - Uh-huh. - I forget like everything. - You forget everything, oh my. - Do you forget where you put something? - All the time. A couple of days ago, I didn't know where I was, it took like five minutes for me to figure out where I was, in my apartment. What would you do if you got lost? - There's a trail right by our house-- - That trail could go anywhere, Justin, and that happened 'cause there was two paths. - Follow the trail, if he goes onto the trail, I don't go onto the trail. - I would just-- - Pass him on the trail then I look-- - Okay, okay, okay, I'm confused. - I would do this. - I am totally confused. - Does the technology help you remember things? - Absolutely, I've got a Google calendar on my laptop, and on my cellphone. My calendar is basically substituting for my brain, because my brain isn't working. Have you heard, you know what Alzheimer's is? - Yeah, you said that earler. - Ah, yes (laughs). - It's okay, it's okay. - You know, I'm 70 years old. - Like, you're old - But I'm becoming, yeah, I'm gonna be becoming a baby, because I'm going to forget how to eat, I'm going to forget how to do things. - Then someone take care of you. - No, no, I live alone, I live in a place where I have lots and lots of friends. - Now, me too, I have such, so, so, so many friends, I can only remember a few of their names. - Oh, I can't remember names, like you told me your name, but I forgot it. - It's Crystal. - I know, but I will forget it. Sometimes I get sad, but I try not to get upset, I had so many great things happen, I was an actor, I've been in movies, and I've done some plays, - Woah - Yeah, I used to sail, I used to fly airplanes, I'm just really very positive, look on the bright side. - There is always a bright side. - That's right. - Even if you don't see a bright side, there is always the one bright side, you're still alive. - Yes. - How do you stay so positive? - We have choices, you can be really, really sad, or I'm gonna say, oh, we've got to find a cure, and they gotta spread the word. In every State, Walks, they call them Walks, to fight against Alzheimer's.
