[Music] see see exports presents cover until the section five three a volleyball tournament tonight a semifinal match between the fitzy the Rogers Royals and the number one seed a champ Lenoir crumbles from Chaplin Park High School John Jacobsen and Andy googors Berg for tonight's second match proving first bats st. Michael Albertville the three see now sting number two seed Maple Grove in five tonight we get to see a Champlin part team it's been very strong in this tournament for several years looking for a fourth consecutive section championship this week yeah at the beginning of the season everybody knew that the road to the axe went through Champlin Park literally and figuratively right now Champlin Park playing some of the best volleyball in the state of Minnesota looking at them right now Rogers great match against Accio to get to the section semifinal but Cinderella it may be midnight it may be time pretty quick here eighteen and ten record for the Royal to teach it can him in its third year it's got a great volleyball resume as far as coaching but he's kind of building a program he said it's a young team they still got a ways to go to get to the level I think that Champlin Park is on well absolutely - TJ can ambush MIT the rest of his staff just top-notch people and coaches and players themselves so this team is on the rise I was just talking with Jay earlier I think they're here a year early I didn't think they were getting to the section semifinal until next year but with what he has on staff and what athletes he has coming up this is a team that we're going to be talking on for a long time to come John I mentioned they have a lot of young fires but our key player tonight for the Royals is one of their veterans yet senior libero kind of makes their team go and none of the senior glue so to speak absolutely true she's one of those kids that when she passes a ball not quite perfect everybody thinks that's what was supposed to happen she's a great defender a great passer a great leader runs the server seat runs the free ball options for the team she's in a great spot to take this team here and Munoz John that's why they play the game amber Champlin Park Emma Schmidt a junior who's done both setting and heading much like is he as per this year it's been pretty good more than pretty good in both roles absolutely true last year Emma was one of those kids that you looked at cuz you know there was there was a kid that was really really good for Champlin last year and there was other kids that filled roles but she was somebody we talked about all the time as an attacker John went to her over the summer and said hey we may need you to dish the rock a little bit wanting to do whatever she needs to do to help this team get back to the exra for an almost unprecedented fourth year in a row she did just that and sets well hits well digs well she's a five-tool kid winner of this one will take on Saint Michael Albert bill Thursday night at Accio high school for the section championship the come back and start someone it is watcher change in Lamar section volleyball next Iran CCS the top seed in Section 5 3a of the rebels of Champa Park hosted a fifth seeded Rogers Royal John Jacobson with Andy boo-boos first for tonight's match the items being introduced for both sides Rogers tonight in the black with the blue trim and look at their starters tonight where's our camera meminger Samantha fourth Kendall pimp and an 8th grader to watch the middle blocker Megan Ellison Amanda Bonsack and gemma person and for the Champlin Park rebels in their home civil with the navy trim jordan stalfos mr smith isn't Fishburne and ran a buffington rest of their starters Sammy hilly hammer Kraske the understeer outstanding leader in Aveiro model term experience on that Champlin part achievement certainly be up some new players with haven't replaced City Gilly and the Maria clamp over the whole group last year but one of these girls saw varsity time last year absolutely true you see the coaches here from Rogers in their matching uniforms you just you gotta love these guys TJ can him down and laugh to third season as head coach assistant coach in this conference before in the northwest suburban conference before I should say it's a both a CO and Armstrong talk to me about this his coaching staff and he said I've got repeat coaching staff and great teachers in John Young Curt in his seventh year as head coach it Champlin Park and looking to guide this rebels team to a fourth consecutive state tournament appearance second place last year third place the year before that fourth place the year before that well I mean if we're just getting good boy yeah yeah they're just gonna keep going then they're due to win there's a couple teams on the south side that might have something to say about that tell you what though in talking with a lot of coaches the gym I work out of primarily is in Burnsville and Chamblin Park is no longer that team that we have to play everybody game plans form everybody knows they're a legit contender match in and match out week in and week out when they get the opportunity to play they really get after it you know interesting fact TJ kanima's in one is married into one of volleyball royalty families as he is a he's married to a pinata and the if if you're listening to this broadcast and you don't know who the pinatas are you're relatively new to volleyball great family and TJ and his staff like you said just solid all the way through both Schmidt played a lot of good volleyball in his day care Lang one of the other assistants really nice player as well and dr. Scott arcane has been around this game forever here we see the section bracket take us through Liga if Champlin Bart will be sweep apart center of their quarterfinals after the pirates had won their pigtail round match against Cooper and the on the other side Rogers able to come through with a five-set thriller Oh Brazil in the quarterfinals to get to tonight same length allow refills you mentioned already through to the final with a five-set win earlier here tonight against Maple Grove we are underway is the aspirin with the opening serve all amped the net with dig by Ashburn to get that up and played over by Jordan Stompa scotch rogers feeding on the left side would attack but returned Bellinger had a good attack from the left side that dug up nice and it goes back across Florrick Hill yeah sometimes you got a horseshoe early and that was a great stab at the ball and sent across for the point that growth Schmidt Ashburn will set it outside first out this nicely dug up they go back in there clock my Champlin Clark Breanna fluffington getting up along with anna press key yeah those to those who are going to combine fill a lot of points tonight great vision by them it's kind of a one-hitter situation for Rogers and the result was predetermined pushed across their Fellig early and we were in down to another point for jimplin Marcus Kraske gets a kill Kraske big swing there on the gap set in between the right side and middle blocker and she goes off the edge and down the line from the point 300 lead and TJ needs to calm him down you know early timeouts are kind of interesting they come they come a couple different ways one is the I'm gonna light you up and let you know that this match matters this is the end of the road for some of you and as we look you can see on TJ's face how he feels John right now kind of not quite sure what to say it's Thurio we've done we've done very few things we don't know what's working we don't know what isn't but just keep doing what we've done to get here and and stay loose in order to extend this lead all smiles from there now we've now we get to take a look at TJ and you see him very calmly addressing what needs to be done maybe there was a gameplan piece that they're not attacking yet and a quick reminder to get them to go and everybody locked in ready to go see how they come off this time out we mentioned that they're coaching Stampler their coaches is not here tonight is Julia Doyle was an outstanding center at white seta years ago and said you know she said another match tonight but he's still playing volleyball but as you see he said I've got so many great you know teachers of this game even though we don't have a lot of a lot of volleyball experience at this level that's a good fee for the beach the game we teach a himself was one of the best six rotation outsides I've ever played against Bowl blocked more volleyballs during his tenure at st. John's University than I care to talk about and we know how good Doyle was at setting the ball and if memory serves I believe Tara was a libero back when she played as well so that you've got capable of doing I know these Rogers Royals have worked hard all year but right now they're not putting forth a great effort that I've seen them put forth earlier in the season they got to dig in they got to trust each other they got to get after it I can't get over how much fun I have watching the Champlin student section you know three four years ago when they first started this run some of the stuff they were about I wasn't on board with but they've really matured and really grown up they understand the game very well they're very positive I mean we've got everybody is that Beavis Beavis just you can't there's too many weapons so what you do as a coach and as a coaching staff to try to figure out okay neat rotation how do we attack what they want to do and make them uncomfortable as a player when I would Scout as a player I was always looking for where the holes are in the defense who do I want to attack near that'll give me the best chance to score Molly gets a point though for young team they're an aggressive blocking team you're gonna make some errors there but you'd think by this point this season we'd have that a little more under wraps I'm feeling it has a lot to do with the nerves of what's going on as uncharacteristic there Patterson gets aced unable to get her feet to the wall Sydney heimer is played just 18 cents on the season in now for Champlin park on that ace this one Sage's wide honor well John does a lot of really nice things here he's getting a senior that hasn't had a lot of playing time opportunity a chance in front of a pretty packed house to come in and get some some PT time around the sir received their as Ashburn sets up Schmidt for the kill the coaches or whatever the sport is talk about kids you know like Sydney hire whoever it is come through the program work hard work hard a practice maybe don't see the reward as far as playing time and some of the teammates do but are so vital to program them to a team success now you hear every great team talk about the green kid the kid that isn't on the court very much but just is the kid that's working behind the scenes you know you know every great basketball team has that guy that doesn't play much it was I was just listening to a podcast Michael Gervais was interviewing Luke Walton and who's now the head coach at the Lakers I believe him and he never played but he was that guy for every team he ever played on he's banging on other kids during during practice so that they could get the shot during the match Schmidt the okay I begin gets the attack and kill she's so much higher than the block of Rogers she can just hit wherever she chooses have you seen her game improved from last high school season to this year I think and last year she was a banger all she did was get up and rip and if there was a block there she was in trouble this year she's able to see the block much better she hit shots in her first touch has come a long way when she takes care of the first ball they can run their entire offense where last year she was kind of a target and serve receive I mean granted the options where you could either serve at Sydney hilly or Weimer Scourge or her so she became the option pretty easily but she's done a really nice job this season of handling more of the load and service eve and being able to hit shots and score in a variety of ways rebels getting out a little run here they've waited six to three anime syllabus communication on the Royal sign is for the ACE yeah Gore Gore has silently this match been on about for four or five point runs it's a great player serves with consistency she's another kid I remember watching that kid play volleyball and she was like 10 years old in our gym she's done a really nice job turned into an ice volleyball player northern state gonna get a gem in her next year her serve definitely a reason to give you fits and as a coach again you talked about what is STM a looking at right now they're gonna find a way cuz she's definitely much better at hitting the sidelines than the middle of the court on Thursday I'll be interested to see if STM a does something to adjust what she has to serve at maybe putting the Libero out of the middle of the court maybe bunching some things up and giving them some different looks Gore third on the team in aces behind Ashburn and Weimer Scourge yeah she does a nice job her defense has come a long way her first touch I remember a couple years ago we were doing a match and the nerves got to her and John Junger actually called the timeout and calmed her down and and put her back out there and do some nice things to finish but that kid no longer exists the brie Gortat will on the floor right now it's just a great kid who's easy to work with her teammates count on her to do a variety of different things communication is on point she's gonna do some really nice things at the next level seven three rebels gone on the strong serve handles that attack from Anderson
