if you like dinosaur projects you are going to love this video today i'm sharing 30 of my favorite home decor and diy dollar store projects okay guys we are gonna start this off with one of my favorite projects i needed a new solution to hold all of my utensils so i grabbed a vase from the dollar store and a bunch of little wooden dowels to make a new utensil holder if you want more details on any of the projects i'm sharing today they will all be linked in the description box below so be sure to check it out there for this project i first measured the height of the vas i was using and then cut all of my wooden dowels to that height making sure i had enough to go all the way around the vas [Music] next i stained all of the dowels with a color i love called flagstone and then got to work attaching them to the side of the vas there are other glue options that would probably work as well but i really like this multi-grip glue it stuck the dowels to the glass really really nicely and dried fairly quickly i used tape to keep everything straight and in place while the glue dried and then when it was done i put all my utensils inside and put it on the counter and here is how it turned out [Music] this next project is barely a diy but i found this vase and i could not pass it up at our local dollar store all i did to this faz was paint it with a matte black spray paint so quick and easy it already had a beautiful texture to it and when it was dry with the matte black it looked so gorgeous here is the final product such an easy and quick diy [Music] my next project was inspired by some very expensive pedestal balls i'd seen online i decided to diy my own with some plastic bowls from the dollar tree i flipped over the small bowl covered the bottom with e6000 and then put the bowls together and use some pressure with my fingers for a minute or two while the glue dried once the glue was dry i spray painted everything with a textured black spray paint the texture in the spray paint really takes away that gloss and the plasticky feel of these pieces and makes it look much more organic here is the final piece i have used this piece to style so many places in my home it's a really versatile diy for only a couple of dollars [Music] this next project is one of my outdoor dollar store diys that involves these little boxes i took the wooden box inserts out and decided to make some hanging planters out of them and i started doing that by drilling a hole into the bottom so that the plants would have a way to drain [Music] next i got to work cutting and measuring out a piece of plywood that these boxes would attach to when they hung outside [Music] once i had all the spacing figured out i took that piece of plywood over to our table saw and cut two backer board pieces [Music] then i sanded down those boards and sprayed them with an outdoor safe spray paint to protect them [Music] [Applause] [Music] i also stained all of the little planter boxes with a black gel stain and coated them all with polycrylic to protect them from the elements outside [Music] finally i drilled holes in the top of the boards so that i'd be able to hang them outside on our privacy fence and i decided where those little boxes were going to sit and glued them in place [Music] and here's how they looked when they were done i still love these little planters the following year i put succulents in them and they grew really nicely in there and they just looked beautiful on the fence our next project is a plant stand this is one of my favorite ever dollar store diys and involves some plungers and some wooden dowels all of which were from the dollar store to make one of these mid-century modern looking plant stands i needed four of the sticks from the plungers and two wooden dowels i really liked how the tops of the plunger sticks have this nice rounded profile already and i wanted to show that off and take advantage of it and cut off the other end [Music] so i measured the height i wanted for the pot that i already had and then cut all four of the plunger sticks to the same height then i took the dowels and decided where i wanted those to sit on the plunger sticks so that i could drill a hole that the dowels would slide into [Music] so i marked that spot on the plunger six cut the small dowels to the right size and then started to drill a pilot hole and then a dowel sized hole into the plunger sticks [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] i did this for both sides of my plant stand making sure that the dowels fit nice and snug and that they fit nicely around the edges of the planter pot i had next i marked the center of the cross beams that i had and used my dremel to create a little notch on both of the cross beams so that they would sit on top of each other nice and snug when they cross underneath the pot for more information about the exact measurements i used be sure to check out the link in the description box below or the card up top finally i checked that everything fit nicely and then i used wood glue to glue everything together [Applause] [Music] here is the finished plant stand i absolutely love this project i can't believe that i only made it for a few dollars i still use it on top of desktops on the floor beside chairs there's so many beautiful ways to style a plant stand like this highly recommend this diy if you have the tools to do it [Applause] [Music] for my next project i wanted to take those plastic chargers that you always see at the dollar tree and give them a little bit of a makeover to do this i took some fusion paint in a nice warm white color and added baking soda to it adding the baking soda creates a beautiful texture with the paint and i mixed them at about a 50 50 ratio so one part paint to one part baking soda [Music] once i had a nice consistency i started painting those chargers it did take a couple of coats to completely cover the charger and the design underneath and i went back with a foam brush the second time i did it because you could see a lot of brush marks and i just wanted to minimize that the second time around [Music] and finally because i'm using baking soda in this if water got spilled on them or something the baking soda would definitely react so i made sure to cover everything in clear coat so it was nicely protected from anything that falls off the plate here's how they looked when they were done i absolutely love the texture and color that i've brought to my tablescape i specifically used them here for a thanksgiving table but i will definitely be using it for other holidays as well because i love the look of them next i used these wooden canvases from the dollar store to create a wooden clock for my office instead of centering the clock exactly in the center of this board i wanted it to be closer to the top so i did some measurements to figure out where i would drill the hole for the clock hardware [Music] next i took apart a different dollar store clock that was only a couple dollars so that i could use the hardware from it to power my new clock [Music] i drilled a pilot hole through the wooden canvas where i wanted the hardware to go and then it used a larger drill bit the size i needed for the clock hardware in the same spot then the final step was to stain the piece i used dark walnut this time and it looked really beautiful on this wooden canvas [Music] here is how the clock looked when it was done i absolutely love this piece my cats did end up swatting at the arms on the clock hand so unfortunately it's no longer in my office but i still love it the next thing i'm doing is making a little wooden sculpture using these square wooden dowels from the dollar store [Music] i played around with some design ideas until i was happy and once i found sort of a length and design that i liked i marked that onto the dowel which was about four and a half inches and then i cut six dowels to that size [Music] for this design there are always three overlapping dowels in the center of the sculpture so i went ahead and marked the center of each dowel and then marked where the three dowels would sit so that i knew exactly where to glue the pieces together [Music] next i started gluing together the wooden dowels this took a little bit of work to make sure i was holding everything straight and aligning everything with the lines i had drawn on and if you have some mini clamps like this i highly recommend them especially for projects like this where it's hard to get your fingers in there holding everything still [Music] the next step in this process was to stain all the wooden pieces i started with a stain called golden oak which is a really beautiful color but it had a little bit more orange and yellow coming through than i wanted so when the stain was done i did a second coat with a pickling white wash and what that did was just tone down all of the undertones in the previous stain and gave it a more natural finish which is what i was looking for here you may have seen this one earlier when i showed the vas but here is how that diy turned out it looks beautiful being styled beside this vase here and i was just really happy with the end product [Music] we're going back to those dollar store plungers now i had another use and idea for those dollar store plunger dowels and i had the idea to mix it with one of the dollar store scarves i had found that i just really liked the pattern of my plan here was to make a beautiful wall hanging a tapestry type piece so i started by cutting it those dowels cutting the ends off of them and then drilling a hole into the opposite end so that i could string some string through to hang my scarf on the wall [Music] i attached the two dowels together with some e6000 because that's a pretty strong glue and i let it sit until that bond was tight while that was drying i gave my scarf a quick steam to remove some of the harsh fold lines and wrinkles from it i had some leather cording on hand i just always have this in my craft stash but i actually have seen this at the dollar store as well so if you get lucky you might find some but i strung that through the two sides to hang the tapestry and here is how it turned out on the wall i honestly really like this color block design that the scarf has and i think it really pops nicely against my dark painted wall i think this diy was really simple and a quick and easy way to fill up your walls and decorate them beautifully [Music] for the next project i found these little wooden houses at the dollar store and i definitely could not pass them up i've actually done a few diys with these little houses but this one was so easy and started with me just giving them a quick spray paint in black i decided to make them into book ends so the next thing i did was grab some l brackets and add some construction adhesive to the back you can also use a strong craft glue and it would stick just as well in my opinion just attach those l brackets to the side of your houses and wipe away any excess glue that squeezes out on any sides and you're done [Music] [Music] [Music] and here's how they turned out honestly i love these bookends they look great holding my books they look great holding the kids books and there's just a really easy versatile diy [Music] our next project is another great one that can be used indoors or outdoors in the spring all of our dollar stores are full of terracotta pots so i grabbed one and spray painted it black and then i grabbed a bunch of this rope string type material from the dollar store to make my own hanging planter i started by cutting four long strands from one fingertip to the other with my arms all the way stretched out then i folded those pieces in half and made a knot at the top and pulled it nice and tight but the knot i made sure was big enough that i could put a hook or something in it to hang the planter now it's time to start shaping this planter and making some knots so i started this process by it taping my whole piece to the table so that it didn't shift around on me and then deciding where i wanted my bowl to hang how far down from the knot and i decided on about 15 inches so at that point i tied a knot in the first two pieces of rope and then again in the next pieces and the next pieces and the next pieces [Music] then i needed to make my second row of knots and to do this i kind of held up the pieces to get an idea of how far down i wanted it and it ended up being about six and a half inches from the previous knot then i took two adjacent pieces of rope that were not already knotted and knotted them together so it formed a full loop of knots [Music] i tested all of my placement with the terra cotta bowl in place and once i was happy with everything i made one last large knot at the bottom [Music] i was so happy with the final look of this it sat on our porch all summer long holding our herbs and i would definitely make this one again it was a great and easy project [Music] next up is a decor piece that is also amazing for organization i found those little trays at the dollar tree as well as these smaller little boxes and i combined them with some dollar tree cork to make a beautiful desk organization piece the first step of this process was to paint all of those trays and boxes with a nice white paint [Music] next i stacked all those boxes together and organized them in a way that the handles would be hidden so i didn't want the boxes to be all the way in the front or back of the tray or we would have those holes in the middle i stacked all of this on top of another tray this one wasn't painted because you're not going to see it anyway but you can paint it if you like and then i cut some dollar store cork to size so that it would wrap all the way around the edges of the two trays and make it all look seamless i used my favorite craft glue for this which i will link below because it basically adheres any craft materials and dries really really fast and here is how the finished organizer looks again love this piece it still sits on my desk to this day and is still used every time i'm in my office [Music] back to a super quick and easy diy you can barely call this what a diy all i did was take a basket and spray paint it but guys this looks amazing it has sat in my entry collecting mail ever since and i still love it moving on to another fun project this time i made an entire feature wall out of dollar store sponges i started by drawing this half circle shape and then cutting the sponges into the proper form next i poured seven different colors of paint each onto their own plate so that i could dip the sponges into them i then dipped the sponges into the paint one at a time and pressed them onto a line that i had created using painters tape on the wall this was part of my children's playhouse project so my daughter came out and even helped stamp some of those little rainbows on the wall [Music] when it was done we removed the tape and i was so happy with the end result it's so fun and colorful here's what they look like in the kids playhouse and i know they still love this design and pattern on the wall and it's amazing that you can do a totally fun feature well for just a couple of dollars by the way if you haven't seen this full playhouse reveal it is definitely worth checking out that video i will link it up top for you [Music] this next project is using these boxes to create a nice thin shelf for the wall all i'm doing is painting these guys and then screwing the back box into the wall to act like a little shelf [Music] look at how good these look on the wall it is so easy to do provides some extra storage for your study space or office looks really minimal and cute love this project [Music] anytime i find fabrics that i like at the dollar store i grabbed them and here i grabbed another nice dollar store scarf and this one i thought i would use to make a no-sew pillow case [Music] i grabbed an old throw pillow that i wasn't using anymore and placed the scarf around it playing with the placement of the scarf until i was happy with where it sat on both sides of the pillow once i was happy with the patterns on both sides i used my fabric scissors to cut off any excess material this is a no-sew project but i still made sure to leave a couple of inches on each side to be able to work with them in a minute once i had my fabric all cut i did some measurements just to double check that everything was straight so for my 14 inch wide pillow i used 15 inches in length so i just added an extra inch in each side and then because this is a no-sew project i used fabri-tac glue which is amazing at gluing fabrics together [Music] [Applause] i pressed the glue in place and let it dry and then look guys even tugging on this it does not pull apart that seam is strong and i was so happy with the results [Music] next i put the pillow case inside out and put my pillow right inside of it [Music] [Music] when it comes to the end you can choose just to tuck those pieces inside so that you can easily remove and switch out the pillowcase with other pillowcases or you can tuck it as i'm doing here and use the fabric glue again to seal it shut [Music] [Applause] [Music] and here's how that pillow cover turned out do not skip on fabrics that you find at the dollar store that you like because you can easily make them into pillow covers [Music] this next diy involves transforming some of these gift boxes and gift bags into beautiful decorative boxes the first thing i'm gonna do is paint those lids black because of the foil and pattern on them they did need a couple of coats now it was time to work some magic with these dollar tree bags and i simply cut the front panel off i picked these bags because i really liked the pattern that they already had on them and i thought i could definitely transform them into something where i could use and show off the fun pattern starting with the long paneled sides i snipped the edges and folded the fabric over so that it would cover the side pieces [Music] once the long sides were done i got to work on the short sides and first cut off any excess material that i didn't need then i experimented with the other side using a couple different folding techniques until i found a way to nicely fold it over the top so that the edges and corners were nice and seamless [Music] i did the same thing with the larger box and i purposely chose two different sized boxes so that i'd be able to layer and stack them nicely on my shelves [Music] and here is how they turned out i love these pieces beautiful functional storage i still store supplies in these boxes and still use them to decorate various floating shelves around the house definitely a great budget friendly diy next i am using these dollar store square dowels to make another sculpture this one a little bit easier than the last one i tried i wanted to be able to shape them to imitate this sculpture i saw that was a hundred and fifty five dollars i was pretty sure i could make something for less than that i figured out the length i wanted marked six inches on three of these dowels and then cut them on our miter saw [Music] once they were all cut i marked an inch and a half from the top of all of them because that's where i wanted all of the dowels to intersect and then i glued them together and held them together with those mini clamps again [Music] so to mimic the look of the other piece i sprayed the entire piece with a gold spray paint after the gold was on and dried i felt like it looked much cleaner and less worn than the piece i'd seen so then i brushed on some black paint very lightly and took it off with paper towel right away just to leave that black residue [Music] this was the perfect way to get that aged look that i was going for [Music] and here's how the sculpture turned out honestly guys there is no reason to ever buy shelf decor at full price i feel like you can diy any of it and really make it look like the real thing [Music] next i'm going to make an indoor or outdoor tray using one of those wooden picture frames and some dollar store rope next i gave the entire piece a coat of black gel stain before i got working on my handles [Music] my plan for adding handles to this tray was to drill two holes into the wooden sides and string some rope through those holes so to do this i first found the middle on the short side of my tray and then i measured about two inches on either side and that's where i wanted to drill my holes [Music] i then went through the bottom of the tray with a larger drill bit and kind of moved the drill bit back and forth to widen the hole this is because i wanted to put rope in there and tie a knot with the rope and still have the tray sit flat so i needed a little bit of extra room for the knot of the rope to be able to sit inside those handle spots [Music] next i sprayed everything with clear coat i wanted to make sure that this guy was well protected because i knew it was going to be a sitting outside for the summer with us on our patio when it was time to string the rope through to make those new handles i first tied some painters tape around the ends this just helped tighten up the rope at the end and made it really easy to string through the holes that i had made once the string was through i tied a knot and tied it really tight and strung the string through the other side as well and then cut off any excess string that i had hanging out [Music] i love how this piece turned out i thought it was a really beautiful addition to our patio and honestly would make a great tray indoors or outdoors [Music] my next home decor project is a letter board that i created using dollar sport supplies including these wooden letters some small wooden dowels and a canvas [Music] as you can see the 12 inch dowels i have are the exact width of this 12 inch canvas so it was the perfect way to create one of these letter boards without any power tools at all i started by experimenting with the spacing to see where i wanted the dowels to sit i decided that one of the dials about three inches apart but i did it four inches from the top because i knew the letters would sit up a bit higher and i wanted to have the extra space above the first letter row i marked these positions on both sides of the canvas so i knew exactly where to glue the dowels [Music] so [Applause] [Music] once all the dowels were glued in place i did put something else under the canvas to try and prop the canvas material up so that the dowels would stick nice and smooth along the canvas [Music] then the final step of this project was to spray paint the entire piece black so that it looked like a traditional leather board [Music] and here's how the project turned out it's such a cute project that honestly you could use all year round for any holiday or any season [Music] if you liked the baking soda and paint method i used earlier on the chargers you will also love this quick vaz upcycle dollar store is full of glass vases so why not take a couple and add some texture and some color to them i added black paint because that's my favorite i mixed it about 50 50 with the paint and the baking soda until it had a nice texture to it and simply painted the vases a couple of times making sure to get a nice full coverage [Music] make sure to protect them with some clear coat and that is all you need to do for this diy here's how they look in that fall tablescape again as a centerpiece throw some seasonal stems in there and you can use these vases over and over again to add some texture [Music] for my next diy i'm using a dollar store glass vase again but this time i didn't want to paint it i love the texture of it and it inspired me to go find these bamboo skewers and create a little diffuser [Music] other things you need for this are some carrier oils some rubbing alcohol or vodka and some essential oils [Music] you'll start by pulling out 5 to 10 bamboo sticks and we have a lot of extra so you can always replace them once these ones become saturated the next thing you want to do is add your oil into the diffuser and you can use any oil for this from olive oil to avocado oil next add your rubbing alcohol or vodka which is meant to encourage the oils to go up the bamboo sticks [Music] and finally add 25 to 30 drops of some essential oils that you have in a scent that you really love [Music] next i cut off the ends of my bamboo skewers i found them to be a little bit too long but you don't have to do this you could definitely skip this part of the process [Music] and here's how the diffuser looks in our bathroom i love both the look and function of this piece and i think you could use it in any room in your home [Music] for my next project i found these round pencil holder looking guys in the craft section at the dollar tree and i could not pass them up basically anything wooden that i can get my hands on at the dollar store i can create into something else so i grabbed some of those and my first thought was that i could probably transform these into pillar candlesticks to start i wanted to cut a small piece off the top of these round pencil holders and since it was such a small area to work with we put an mdf backer board on the back of the saw so that i would have lots of room to lean my piece against while i was cutting it [Music] these little pieces will now be the tops that the candles can sit on on top of the candlesticks once i had all of those pieces cut i glued around the tops of some of these rounded pieces to attach them together and form the candlesticks you can do whatever variations of this that you want but i decided to do three different candlesticks of varying heights [Music] finally i sprayed everything with a clear coat to protect them if you want to stain your candlesticks you can definitely do that as well but i wanted to keep with this natural color this time [Music] and here's how they look i put them on my sideboard for now they're so nice i love them and i feel like you could definitely convince people that these came from a high-end store [Music] i showed you guys a project earlier where i used the inner boxes from this piece to make some plant holders outside well now i am using the outside piece for a new project i started by staining everything with black gel stain and then protecting the entire piece with polycrylic [Music] i wanted to add some stylish looking handles to the side of this and i just happen to have these leather ikea handles already on hand at home so i asked my husband if he would install these on the sides of the container for me [Music] [Music] [Music] here's how the container looked when it was done we still use this every time we're hosting a party to put all the utensils and napkins out we still use it every time we eat it on the deck it turned out to be a really awesome piece [Music] and because i loved these wooden round pieces so much you know i found another use for them i decided to cut them and make a beautiful wooden decorative chain out of them i started out by figuring out what width i wanted these round chain pieces to be and i decided on about one inch thick so then i took that to the table saw so i could cut a bunch of little one-inch rounds [Music] [Music] so that i had a lot of control over this project i ended up holding the piece putting it through on one side shifting it and then putting it through on the other side to get a full clean cut and always waiting till the blade completely stopped moving before i moved the piece that had been cut after everything was sanded i took these pieces to the scroll saw to cut a tiny slit in them this slit opening is going to be how i connect all the pieces to one another [Music] i used a beautiful dark walnut color to stain all of my rings and when they were dry i connected them to each other and glued them together [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] and here's how they turned out most of the versions of this that i've seen in the store can be very expensive so i'm pretty proud that i did this one for only a couple dollars [Music] every year on my blog i give my readers a free printable calendar i just like the idea of having a nice minimal calendar in my office and i wanted to give all of those readers a simple way to display the calendar if they wanted it so that's what i tackled here with another one of these wooden canvas pieces by now you guys know how much i love black decors of course i used some black stain on this piece to start [Music] i reversed the wooden canvas so it would feel like there was a nice frame around my printed calendar and then i used a clip that i already had at home that i had just spray painted with this sort of caramel latte-ish color i decided where i wanted that clip to sit i measured everything to make sure it was centered nicely and then i glued it in place by just putting glue on the back of the clip i make sure that i can constantly take out the calendar and switch it with other pieces or even switch it out with a piece of art or something my children have drawn for me [Music] [Music] here's how it looks in the office both functional and decorative and i will also provide a link to those printable calendars if anyone is interested in checking them [Music] out the dollar store is full of different varieties of glass vases and i've tried a few different techniques over the years to upcycle them but this one has to be one of my favorites the plan was to give these a beautiful color blocked look with different colors of spray paint to adhere to glass you want to make sure that you have a spray paint that specifically says it will work on glass and then i also gave these a few coats of primer to make sure that the paint would stick on really well [Music] once the primer and the first coat of white paint were done i wanted to tape off half the vase so that the spray paint wouldn't get on it when i was painting the other side for the color block effect i used a plastic bag and some painters tape to tape off the top half of all three vases [Music] [Music] and here is how they looked when they were done i use these vases for decorating all the time in various rooms in my house and i think they look beautiful with so many different styles of decor and of course i had to do one more last project with these circular pieces because it's not often that you find amazing circular wooden pieces at the dollar tree and for this one i'm bringing back some of these dollar tree dowels so that i can do another fluted effect but this time on a candle holder i cut a small piece off the bottom of one cup to stack onto the other cup and then i measured the full distance of those two pieces and cut all of my wooden dowels down to size [Music] [Music] after everything was cut i used some craft glue to attach all of the dowels to the side of the cups making sure that they were sitting nice and straight [Music] so [Music] i decided i wanted to stain this project so once the glue was dried i took it to the shop and gave everything a coat of flagstone [Music] [Music] and once again i gave it all a coat of clear coat to protect it here's how it turned out and how it looked on our thanksgiving tablescape i've since used it just as decor on our sideboards or floating shelves it's such a pretty piece again one that i don't think people would know you made with dollar store supplies [Music] and i had one last use for all those wooden dowels this time i wanted to add them to the side of a box that my husband had picked up at the thrift store i started by sanding down the whole piece and then i wanted to attach the dowels to the side so that they would sit straight and add a beautiful texture but it turned out the box was not square so i started by gluing the inner pieces in place and clamping them so that it would kind of hold the box together and more square [Music] once that was ready i measured the distance that i needed to cut my dowels at for the sides of the box [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] once i had dowels cut for all four sides i gave them a quick sand to smooth out any edges or any tear out and then i worked on making a new lid because the previous lid was falling apart [Music] when everything was ready i used construction adhesive to attach my dowels to the sides of the box and sides of the lid [Music] when the box was ready i wanted a way for the lid to stay in place so i measured the width of the spaces inside the box transferred that measurement to some spare mdf and cut some little stoppers that i could glue to the inside of the lid that would kind of hold the lid in place properly when it was on top of the box and finally when everything was dry i gave it all a coat of glossy black spray paint and here is how the box turned out i love this piece and i think you could do it with a dollar store box too i always see lots there it's so functional and pretty at the same time [Music] for the next project i'm going to be using wooden blocks that i found in the toy section of the dollar store in particular i wanted to use these little semi-circle blocks that they had inside of this set [Music] i also grabbed some of these natural wood rounds and my plan was to turn these into a little plant holder to elevate my plant pots this is such an easy project i started by putting some wood glue between each of these little wood rounds and piling them up and gluing them together this just created a nice thick surface for my plant stand [Music] [Music] then when that glue was dry i glued the little semi-circles on the bottom to act as little feet for the plant stand [Music] and finally i gave the entire piece a coat of walnut stain and then a couple of coats of polycrylic [Music] and here's how it turned out again i love this project i try to only create projects that i'm actually going to use around the house and i have used this one over and over again i really love how it turned out [Music] so that is 30 of my favorite dollar store home decor diys i hope you guys enjoyed this video and found at least a couple projects to inspire you on your next dollar store visit if you like this video give it a thumbs up let us know in the comments below and
