- Hey Steve,
- Hey. - as you can tell, I'm a black man, and (laughs) (audience laughing) However, however, I grew up; I'm adopted by a white-- - Wait, hold, hold, wait - (chuckles) (audience laughing) - So I'm adopted-- - Wait hold, hold (mumbles) (audience laughing) I'm stuck on your openin' line. - I just wanted to clarify.
- Hey Steve, as you can tell, I'm a black man. You know, I'ma start comin' out like that from now on, 'cause. Hey ya'll, what's happenin'? I'm Steve Harvey. I'm a black man. (audience laughing) (audience applauding) Surprise! (audience laughing) Okay, I'm sorry, okay. Go ahead, start over man.
- All right. Okay, so as you can tell, I'm a black man (laughs) (audience laughing) - You said (beep) again! - (laughs) However, I'm
- Okay. - I'm adopted by a white
family so that's probably why I started with that. - Oh okay. - So growing up, I've
always been kinda insecure 'cause I felt I was too
black for the white kids, too white for the black kids. It's always been kind
of a weird identity type of thing for me. However, I'm 21 now so I've
kind of grown out of it, but I feel like I still
find myself changing kinda who I am dependin' on, you know, the people I'm with or the situation. So I just have; I just wanna know if you
have any advice for me on how to deal with the identity crisis, or just how to be myself so.
- Well. Yes, you've got to first of all, just be all right with who you are. (audience clapping) Just hurry up. Hurry up, you 21. It's time for you to go, "Hey, look. This is me. I have lived in both worlds. I can function in any situation, but this is who I am." You can't change for every situations. You gon' drive yourself crazy. If you could describe yourself, how would you describe yourself? - I describe myself as a
pretty compassionate type of person, and very outgoing (mumbles)
- Compassionate, outgoing. Okay. So, when you get around the white people, this what I want you to do. - (chuckles)
- I want you to be compassionate, and
I want you to be outgoing, but when you get 'round the black people, check this out, I want you to be
compassionate, and I want you to be outgoing. (audience clapping) - (laughs) - Now, anybody don't like the
compassionate, outgoing Travis, then they won't be your friend. It's obvious, you can quit
making the announcement that you black. You can stop that. - (laughs)
(audience laughing) - Hey ya'll, we'll be right back. (laughs) (audience clapping) (r&b music)
