[Music] can you imagine traveling all over Europe in a light airplane cruising at speeds of 240 plus km an hour soaring straight and high above heels and legs mountains and Open Seas all while keeping your budget in check consuming less than 8 L of gasoline per 100 km like a regular car can you envision landing on small grass air stps and bustling international airports and what if I told you this airplane costs about the same as a good car and can fit right into your garage would you be interested if so let me introduce you to the Europa family [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] but hold on this was a good epic music and nice shots but I have a question all right Europa is awesome touring machine fast for its class efficient it's a good useful Lo it's economical to run and it looks so cool and all this for the price around 450,000 is this to be good to be true January 1990 the month the year when Ivan Shaw first had a dream a dream of a new aircraft imagine yeah there were two significant events in the early early 19s I went to school and Ian show began designing Europa unlike me at that time Ian had a very clear mission to provide a modern composite highspeed and cost effective key aircraft for personal use in Europe and Vis ability to be constructed and stored at home transported on a trailer and powered by widely available mogus fuel Zopa M this objectives while delivering comfort for two people and enough space for extended touring by 2007 the latest data we have over 450 europas were flying above Europe Americas Australia and New Zealand interesting but Europa was originally designed with a mono Landing GE you may ask why why to look so you too to save on weight at the single wheel is cockpit wide and open and this sounds like pop [Music] up love [Music] it and look M this sounds like a love song for the door and this starts to worry me now there are two ways to exess a cookit from the front which I love most and from the back the front you can sit enjoy the nature and eventually climb to the cockpit I am about 180 cm tall and check the clearance you can adjust it with the pills and we'll talk about it later but you want to sit as high as possible because this low L profile canopy so I have a room just for the headset and this is [Music] good oh playing Vis it again and another way is exting from the back it requires a little bit more gym exercise which I don't like and my camera doesn't like as well and also you have to lower flaps un like many aircrafts traditional aircraft that has an instrument panel all the way from the left to the right in the Europa the passenger actually may feel more like a passenger not like a car pilot it's not a serious Comfort but quite a comfort for a long journey and you have in your dedicated space for your Beverages and some snacks and uh if you you want to stretch your legs the designer was thinking about it and they made a rou pedals like a smaller ones they're still effective and very convenient to use but you can stretch your legs behind the rud pedals oh this such a relief on a long journey the cabin is wide enough to minimize your chances to have a shoulder wrestling with a passenger although the seats are fixed and uh how tall you see you can regulate with a pillows again I'm 180 cm and uh I had to use a one small pillow you can adjust the seats for yourself all right that's enough sweet words about this airplane let's talk some bad stuff right did you notice how low the camera is this is about eye level and this is about what forward visibility is for the a card the sporty look you have to pay for it and you pay with forward visibility this is confusing especially for ly but even on climb you have to make small EST turns left and right just to see what is a traffic ahead or any birds or anything but Landing this is basically what you can see so good so far as your angle of attack is very low but as soon as you're going to flare that Runway is missing come on it's not that bad you can get used to it let's push some electrons around because this aircraft is experimental and this means that instrument panel can be whatever you like you can do anything about it and every single experimental aircraft and this Europe in particular would have the unique instrument panel so for this one we can see just a normal analog instruments iPads with a four flight running and a flight that to control the engine parameters and another screen that push electrons around is an iPhone that gets connected to the El if system over the Wi-Fi network what a technology and again because this is experimental aircraft every instrument panel for every rer will be different so we're not going to stuck here forever we will move the controls and controls are something that all europas have in common and that it just stick and Rudder a stick is very well loaded it's not light it's not heavy it's very responsive and sharp and the r pedals they are lighter on the lighter side and I love it actually I don't need to go to the gym much and they provide excellent excellent controllability in a Crossway with a very slight pressure on the pedals love it nothing to say about throtle convenient has a special dent on 100% power since it's rotx 94 and uh you have to bend it a little bit to get to the full de of power and to the right of the throttle you have a brakes yes you don't have a brakes where the rot pedals are just to make them more comfortable you can can stretch your legs and now they're breaking in your hands and actually controlling the aircraft on the ground left and right is also in your hands just use differential breaking that's it quite unusual yeah but to get used to it you just need a short time on the ground practiceing a little bit and that's it it's time to move back to that bag the question is simple is this a normal Airline style carryon bag would it fit to this small aircraft I'm looking at this space and it seems visible so let's try out maximum takeoff weight for this aircraft on Dutch register is 656 kilo with empty weight about 425 this means 231 kg of useful load and practically this this means that a mediumsized pilot with a passenger with full tanks can still bring about 27 Kil of different luggage this is good and uh for other europas that don't have a parachute install this gray box in the middle they have a lot of space and they can actually bring about C5 kill many takes a bikes with them a folding bikes two of them can fit in that space behind the seats yeah this is real for such a small aircraft is [Music] incredible the fuel tank is located also behind the seats right in the middle and very close to center of Gravity the fuel tank is 68 L which is not very much but it's enough for 3 and 1 half hours of endurance consuming 19 L an hour and flying 13 knots of true air speed you may expect a range real range about 390 Mi if you can sit still for 3 hours and still have about 30 minutes for VFR reserve and 390 MI this is enough to depart from Munich in Germany flying straight away to Rome in Italy although measuring how much exactly fuel you have might be tricky you see this fer neck it's banded and uh the fuel cap is near the top of the aircraft so visually checking a fuel is very different if you don't have a special pipe that you can just put inside and uh check how much fuel it holds now it's full using more gas fuel is preferable for every rtic engine and so this is a great way to save a course of flying as well oh yeah I forgot this fuel went it's uh paino if you do the refueling and doing it quickly especially last few liters it will spill out the fuel right on top of your F hey buddy you ask about the performance oh and you as well so listen this particular craft is equipped with a top engine for this air frame a ruxx 914 turbocharger that can deliver 115 horsepower on takeoff and it is combined with fixed Peach warp drive propeller three blad 62 in in a normal summer day on gr strip uh that would require require 350 M for ground roll for takeoff and uh about the same distance is required even on high elevation airfields for example in Alps because of turbocharging roox 914 so it can easily be operated from grass hill Fields even on short streps on cruise climb you we have about 700 ft a minute at 90 knots and when you reaching a cruise altitude about 5,000 ft the airpin indicator would show about 120 knots indicated so this would translate to about 130 knots of true air speed and this is a conservative numbers for economical creu settings the aircraft is capable for much more but with high fuel consumption but for this economical settings 19 L an hour would translate to about 7.9 L per 100 K traveled in zero wi condition of course but this is more like a normal car fuel consumption so overall a good performance with a good economy isn't it and because this is experimental aircraft you can do the maintenance by yourself and uh save a great cost on that as well but not everything is that [Music] great let's talk about the concern that lingers in the air for Europe Enthusiast and this is a Europa Aircraft Company the company Bas in the UK they have been the lifeline to provide ongoing support for Builders and owners however as a company now part of the biggest Swift Technology Group seems to be running on a shaky pass reports suggest huge delays in responses months long waights for spare parts and heavy Reliance on external contractors although my personal experience was good with them apparently this is not the kind of business that looks very appealing the big question looms what if the parent company loses interest closing down its Venture the future of Europa hangs in the balance adding a layer of uncertainty to the PO Joy of flying this airplane and this is a risk that significantly reduces the value of Europa airplanes all over the [Music] world [Music] but on the other side finding parts that are not specific for the Europe airframe is quite easy that is anything for the engine it's mainly rotx avionics cockpit tires brakes UNC consumables fluids Etc hundreds of europas are flying and you won't be alone because Europe owners have a club it's incredible Club consist of many many very active owners that share the same same passion flying this incredible airplane a tone of information is available on the club's website very well organized it's many club members have tons of experience building in fine Europe for decades and they are very open to help and advice very happy healthy community and the asking prices for Europa starting and this kind marketing conditions around 40 50,000 for a good build with enough resources on the engine but you cannot find many of them on sale [Music] now maybe Europa is the best G you PR in secret so this was absolutely beautiful evening I had a lot of Joy just
