welcome to V's garage the dumbest Ottawa channel in all of YouTube and this is my wife's very nice 2017 Land Rover Range Rover supercharged long wheelbase and in the school pickup line this thing's probably among the king of the dinosaurs is a lot of big SUV's and minivans have sort of fallen out of favor because people want big SUVs like this really I don't get it but what if I told you there was a van yes a van that's just as luxurious in many ways as this Range Rover it's also interesting to look at unlike a lot of minivans it actually has some performance credentials that car enthusiasts would love and it costs less than $5,000 you can find them all over the country for less than five grand you probably think I'm crazy and I'm not well I am but I'm not about this it actually exists and it is my driveway behold my 2004 Nissan Quest 3.5 se and if you look at the Nissan company as a whole well it's really in the toilet right now but it didn't always used to be that way if you look at their current lineup it's a really bland boring dated group of cars and their SUVs are similarly boring and dated and if you look at their entry-level sports car the 370z well it's going on 12 years old 12 years old for their sports cars now this wouldn't be totally awful if they were great cars but they're not very exciting and even worse they're sticking to this CVT transmission thing which is a continuously variable belt driven transmission that really no car enthusiast likes and even worse they don't hold up very well but they're known for widespread failures but Nissan continues to stick to it so really an awful lineup of cars sales are in deep trouble and the former CEO of Nissan right after he was smuggled out in a box from Japan because he was facing channeling corruption charges he estimated that Nissan would be bankrupt within a few years so really bad state for the company right now but it didn't always used to be this way they used to build amazing things like like this quest yes in my opinion as far as non luxury brands go Nissan really was at the top of their game in the early and mid 2000s they were building some of the most interesting and best cars of the time if you think back the new Maxima was was awesome with that funky Sun they had Sentra the ser Sentra SUVs they had the new Murano came out which looked like nothing else and sold like crazy and then the Pathfinder Armada big old brutish thing that everybody loved it basically looks the same today in 2020 the Altima was good as well the Xterra was a worthy successor to the Pathfinder and even the 350z came out during that time which was a darling it was amazing car but it just it hasn't changed in decades which is why it seems kind of stale and mixed into all that was also this the Nissan Quest which a lot of people don't remember the quest before its time it's the most interesting luxurious nice really cool minivan of the time now the Nissan doesn't make the quest anymore they gave up after the fourth generation totally bombed because it's wade leer than this and it's a CVT that likes to blow up so nobody bought them but this is actually the third generation of Nissan Quest the first two were on a platform shared with Ford do you remember the Mercury Villager in the Nissan Quest that second generation they kind of looked the same and then the first ones based on the Aero star so this third generation was the first time they built a minivan on a clean sheet of paper but almost a clean sheet of paper because this is on the same platform as the Nissan Maxima and it's powered by the same family of engines that you would get in the 350z and it's an extremely luxurious comfortable and interesting van I'll just have to give you a tour it's super cool now a lot of people think that when you buy a minivan you've just given up on life you given up on being cool just hand in your man card or whatever but I've never been like that now my wife wanted to get a bigger vehicle she didn't like the small Mercedes wagon wasn't really that small I said well I bought this minivan you can drive it it's big enough and she rejected that immediately which is understandable it is older but it is a considerable upgrade to my last minivan because I am a minivan enthusiast I had a Toyota previa which was a really cool space-age funky man like this but when I saw the crash-test video that's when I traded it in for this quest because this quest has a five-star crash test safety rating from the front and the side unlike the previa which in a front end impact the steering column well it just impales you in the chest so this is an upgrade in a lot of ways except it is front-wheel drive that is kind of a outside but the shape of it is equally funky to me this thing looks kind of French like a French car just from the weird shape a Citroen or something but then it has fins like a car from the 50s you see how the body line kind of goes up and it goes to these taillights that look like kind of a car from the 50s the shape is just so weird and different and interesting and that's what initially drew me to the quest but then the more I looked especially inside well the more I liked yes the interior is funky but let's get some airflow in because it is hot hot hot outside so behold the Nissan Quest interior that is eventually there we go here we go alright stop trying to talk yeah I swear it stops eventually come on there we go there we go okay behold the Nissan Quest interior and if you look at this center console the cat'll looks like Darth Vader's mask here with the vents it definitely looks like a Star Trek shuttle pod with the way they control this thing and all the instruments are centered there in the middle which Nissan was doing this before Tesla got the idea same with Saturn which makes the shape of the dashboard pretty much the same where the steering wheels on the right or the left well kind of but Nissan decided to put a storage kill right in here there's a lot of storage in the Nissan this is just the tip of the iceberg but one thing that makes the quest more luxurious than a Range Rover is this seat you can see it is a soft padded leather seat the kind of seats that you don't get anymore in luxury cars and this was in a Nissan Quest in 2004 look at this pleating and look at the pattern on it it's almost kind of an ostrich looking thing but just so much cushion it is extremely comfortable you also have a Bose stereo some limitations wave and the door panel here and more storage two cupholders more storage anywhere they could put a little storage cubby they they put a storage cubby just-just-just because I should also mention these really really comfy seats are also electrically adjustable the pedals our electric can move back and forth it's heated it has memory settings you have trash control backup sensors and a backup camera automatic lights so this thing is loaded to the gills and they're easy to find for less than five thousand dollars you could not get a Honda or Toyota van with this miles about a hundred and twelve or thirteen thousand miles in this kind of condition with these kind of options even even used for even close to that because they hold their value way way too well this is just ridiculously well unlike this Nissan and we have more luxury features in the back so this quest has two equally comfortable cushy captain's chairs and then a full third row back here now a lot of SUVs and vans have a setup like this with the captains chairs in the third row bench but I don't think a lot of them can do this the quest has a unique feature with these seats where you can put them forward and back to give your passengers in the rear more legroom or you can make this person in a more loungy comfortable position but when you fold this seat down this is my favorite part you do not get this much room in a Rolls Royce Phantom or a Range Rover a long wheelbase I have a chaise lounge back here in a minivan the way the seat pulls down the way the floor is made or the third row seat sits up higher than the second row in the first row gives me this stadium seating to this amazing visibility then it seems unthinkable for any young person to want to have one of these before they have three or four kids but look at all this space especially if you're dating in the world of social distancing where you can't go out to restaurants well you have basically a table setting for two right here and a lounge to hang out and watch a movie or just hang outs or well you can even climb this seat and well do do other things like look up to the sky because this van has Safari windows like the Maxima back in the day with the weird sunroof this thing has four panels just for basically no reason other than to look cool and you can sit back and just gaze at the stars and anyway look at this awesome Safari roof this is definitely the coolest part of the se quest and we have more storage because this car does not have rear entertainment so you have copy after copy after copy after cubby and coupler after cupholder after cup holder and cup holders at cupholders - galore and all eight cup holders I think two four six eight ten ten cup holders in this minivan but the cup holders aren't the only impressive part of this van let me remind you again that this is on the Maxima platform look how low it is to the ground compared to a Range Rover for a lot of vans and SUVs and it has that vq v6 that you find in a lot of the hot Nissan's back in the day one other thing the doors on a minivan people freak out with my phantom but the doors can close itself but minivans have been doing that for a long time the Range Rover the doors can't close themselves it's one more luxury thing but let's go for a drive alright let's hit it go take somebody to wind up but then it makes it sound that sounds just like a 350z except you are in a minivan now this thing is slower than a Honda Odyssey of the day acceleration wise 0-60 but it feels faster this thing actually handles not bad for a minivan really not that's what blows my mind with this thing is Bentley not a sports car it's not agile at all but it's a lot sharper than what I'm used to in a vehicle of this size that's not oriented to be sporty that this is a minivan but it's a low to the ground minivan and it's actually built to take a corner something somehow I don't know it seems like magic but also the visibility in here is just unbelievable this windshield these side windows the way the windows get higher is you go further back there are no blind spots in this thing it's so nice it also feels like you are in a Starfleet shuttlecraft Base the final frontier here we go again I see a little tires will there and it makes an amazing noise it's not all that fast but it makes a great noise now there are some issues with the span there's that belt squeaky heard there's definitely some other weirdness going on the check engine lights on but it drives fine and this thing cost me $4,000 I traded in my previa van and gave some money on top but what a deal this is so much car for the money SUVs are so overpriced because that's what everybody wants and they also and also everybody wants Honda's in Toyotas so those minivans are just way hyped for the Nissan Quest this third generation which is actually pretty rock-solid reliable as a timing chain that likes to go up the head but still be replacing timing belts on Toyotas and Honda's anyway every hundred thousand miles but other than that this is a really solid band before Nissan really really took a dump so if you're looking for something extremely comfortable really usable I'm at the cargo area in this thing will be insane with all the seats folded down and interesting this this this is the van this is what you should buy a Nissan Quest yes quest so yes a minivan that you can find it anywhere for under five thousand dollars that in many ways is more luxurious than a Range Rover it's also very interesting in many ways and fun to drive so why have you bought a Nissan Quest yet I think that's just from the air-conditioning just just just some water I hope but but anyway it's sad what Nissan is now with their CVT trans and they're boring products you know these are they kind of reminds me of what Hyundai and Kia were back when this van was new in the mid-2000s with all their boring uninspired and just junky products it's like they switch places and now Nissan is what Kia and Hyundai used to be really sad but at least you can get some good used ones thank you for watching
