"Surprise, mother fuckers. Your truck and SUV suggestions sucked so I bought an LM002 instead." - what I wanted Doug to say.

A 76 gallon tank is ridiculous, can you imagine the extra weight when it's a full tank

This vehicle was designed for the US military but Lamborghini did not win the contract so they converted it to civilian use, that's why there are shit ton of stuff that doesn't make any sense but it is a true SUV. That's what makes this car so great, it's military grade vehicle with a very fucked up history.

Thanks for posting this, /u/buckmonaco. This is my longest video ever, but I could've spent hours going over weird LM002 details. I hope there are other people as fascinated with these things as I am.

I will always kick myself for not buying the one I was offered as part of a divorce sale. Thanks for the vid!

The owner seemed like a super chill dude, massive props to him as well.

So, /u/Doug-DeMuro, is this the least ergonomic interior you've experienced? The whole car looks and feels like one of those rough test mules car manufacturers use to test components. It's ridiculous, wasteful, obscene and I want one.

I love when Doug finds hidden storage compartments in cars, he always says "no one would ever find it...unless they watched this video" 😂😂

How do you have so much size and fuck up the interior so badly?

this is a Lamborghini lm002 in Lamborghinis long history of making crazy cars and it is a long history this is the craziest the most ridiculous the most amazing and right now lmo2 are shooting up in value a good one like this one can be worth up to four hundred thousand dollars and today I'm going to show you why first I'm going to take you on a tour of this lmo2 which was loaned to B by interstate motorsport here near Princeton New Jersey now I've been to a lot of car dealers to film a lot of these videos and nobody has an inventory quite like interstate motorsport when I asked if I could film the lmo2 they replied which one so anyway I'm going to take you on a tour of the lmo2 and I'm going to show you all of its crazy details then I'm going to take it out on the road and I'm going to fulfill a lifetime dream of mine driving the Lamborghini lmo2 and of course for more of my thoughts and there is so much more to say click the link below to check out my column on autotrader.com slash oversteer now let's get started we'll start up front now the lmo2 was made throughout the 1980s and early 1990s with only just over 300 built for the entire world only 49 were built for the US market and this is one of those 49 under the hood of the US models is the v12 from the Lamborghini Countach with upgrades like fuel injection from the labor Ginny's Diablo the result is nearly 500 horsepower that sounds like something a mad scientist would build yes let's take the engine from a supercar and put it in an off-road vehicle wha and it only gets more ridiculous from here for example take a look under the hood have you ever seen an engine that is shoehorned under a hood more than this one it's unbelievable how little space there is left course that's because the darn thing has a v12 now when you close the hood you'll notice that there are all these giant domes that I've always wondered why does this thing have those well it turns out because if it didn't they wouldn't be able to get that engine in there moving on to the interior of the lmo2 there are obviously a lot more interesting quirks now the first thing you notice when you climb inside are these two giant levers they're not the gear levers that's up here instead these two giant levers are for four-wheel drive this one goes from four by two to four by four and this one goes from normal four-wheel-drive to low range gearing the intent of this car was not just to be a performance SUV but also a crazily capable off-road er now the next thing you notice when you climb inside is just how small your foot well area is there's a giant speaker on the door and when you close the door that takes up a lot of any room on the left on the right your new room is taken up by this giant center console it doesn't help matters that the parking brake is inexplicably mounted in the drivers footwell now speaking of tight spaces this car has a lot of them for example dour power mirrors but the controls are wedged in this tiny little space between the dashboard and the speaker mounted on the doors I couldn't even find them when I was driving the steering wheel is located and right up against the gauges and naturally you can't move it another crazy thing is the location of the ignition switch it's almost impossible to get the key in there and turn it because of where the steering wheel on the wiper stalk are located but even crazier is trying to take it out you have to sort of reach under the steering wheel and fish it out a little at a time with your hand speaking of strange placement of things the turn signal stalk is located on the steering column itself it strangely has a leather cover over it but the wiper stock is protruding from the dashboard not the steering column not really sure why also oddly mounted is the passenger side mirror for some reason it's located way too low on that side of the car and so the door cuts off about half the mirror not that it really matters because look at the size of these mirrors this giant British Rambo looking car the mirror is only a little bit bigger than my hand it's about the size of a line note card now back inside there are a lot of weird switches and warning lights and labels all over this vehicle let's go through some of them now the strangest I think is we didn't look at the insert panel you find a lot of normal gauges and then also a check engine light but not just one there's check engine left and check engine right I bet your car didn't have one of those one of the windows switches like in a Lamborghini lmo2 well they're just like any normal window switches except for some reason they're contained in a loo rubber pouch I'm not really sure why but when you push on it you can feel the regular switch under there but still there's a rubber covering over it the centre control stack is loaded with buttons but the most interesting one says winch you can push it down or up to rotate the direction of the winch that was optional in this vehicle I got this in Lamborghini that has a winch button next up is the climate vents there are four in front that's double what you'd get in a normal car they're also two more in back though they're mounted way too far back to actually be useful all of those vents are controlled by nine buttons of the exact same size and shape on the right side of the console on the other side also looking like a phone dial pad or nine more buttons now when you're sitting in the driver's seat about three of these buttons are obscured from view interestingly the most visible of the buttons is blank and has nothing on it you think they want to put the blank one where it was obscured but they didn't do that now the most interesting button on here is the lock button you press it once doors lock you press that button again well they're already locked it doesn't do anything instead to unlock the doors you press a different button with the window on it now another thing I notice about the center control stack of this car is there's a stereo here there's bench there's buttons where's the music well for some reason they've mounted the stereo up here on the ceiling and when you're sitting here it's almost directly next to you so you can't really see what's going on on the hip unit now like all cars the lmo2 has a cigarette lighter here in an ashtray for the front passengers that's pretty standard but not so standard is the fact that it also has a cigarette lighter and an ashtray for the rear passengers about 14 inches away from the ones in front Lamborghini really knew their market now Lamborghini also knew that their customers wouldn't spend a lot of time driving this vehicle because that's just what you do when you're rich near 50 cars so they installed a factory battery cutoff switch now the battery is located under the driver seat like it wasn't a lot of trucks and suv's of this era in order to turn off the battery you just put this little switch and now the battery's off so it won't go flat if you don't use the car for an extended period of time when we're ready to drive again do it flip it again and now the battery's back on now in back another weird quirk about the LMO two's rear seats is that they're on a bench back here there's a link seating for two there are two buckets now part of that is because of the giant centre tunnel but part of it is because the middle of the car is taken up by a huge rear speaker this was after all the 1980s now given what this car gets something like four miles per gallon and it doesn't have a window to enclosed cargo area some people might say that it's not very practical but Lamborghini has addressed your concern take a look at this the rear seat bottoms lift up to reveal excellent rear seat storage carpeted in beautiful lead sticking back down and you would never know that the rear seat comes up it'd be a great place to hide something in an lmo2 no one would ever find it unless they watch this video now one of the big questions you probably have is what is in the back of this thing well first off how do you even open the back first you take these little snaps off the giant Lamborghini cover over the back then you lift up this little mirror thing and you unlatch both sides of the rear tailgate and then all it takes is a little effort and you have to be very careful and you're in so you may be wondering what exactly is back here well the rear area is strangely shaped it's not that wide but it's really deep and it goes pretty far in there more importantly it's surrounded with diamond plating stuff so you really stick whatever you want back there now on the sides you have seats so you can sit on while you're driving down the beach or whatever and these little railings always wonder what they're for I guess they're to hang on to if you're sitting the seats and things start to get a little bumpy here's another great cork you see the styling all these right angles and this brawny design it looks so muscular it looks like it could kill anything that stands in its path well listen to the horn wasn't expecting that another crazy thing on the outside display all of those buttons you saw inside the card there isn't a single one that releases the fuel door and it's not exactly something you can easily just open right up instead you when you get out of the car to put gas and you can't get a stick a credit card in here and then that opens the fuels all right up now that isn't the craziest part about the fueling in this vehicle the crazy part is just how high it is off the ground look at it you want to throw that big lift to stand here with a pump at your eye level and you have to stand there a while because this thing has a seventy six point six gallon fuel tank that means to fill it up at today's gas prices you're looking at about two hundred and fifty dollars plus fill-up upfront two interesting things first off you can see the bumper doesn't really extend too far down that's because the car needs a good approach angle to clear crazy off-road obstacles more interesting are the tires the lmo2 cane wood specially designed Pirelli tires they had a sand lip on the side and they were reinforced with a nylon like substance similar to Kevlar so the lmo2 could drive in the sand even if the tires were deflated those tires are long out of production though Pirelli recently made a new set of similar tires for three to five thousand dollars per tire this lmo2 just has off-road super swampers tires now speaking of interesting these real early 17 inches but somehow they managed to stick eight lug nuts on there more surprising is the fact that this car doesn't have shift on the fly four-wheel drive you have to get out and actually twist this little cap to get the car into four-wheel drive okay so the lmo2 is clearly one of the most unusual cars ever manufactured and by far the most ridiculous Lamborghini and we haven't even moved it an inch time to get it out on the load and see how this thing drives alright we're going to start out the LM here like a lot of like next all right here we go pull the gas pedal why would the gas be so hard to win I get living like this part is also harder would say man if he's going to really commit before you pour it right I will be a giant asymptomatic night where one is bad like in 20 years not bad that might become a significant period dad Rattler's angry like that I suppose we won't would be gather frame you think I've never looked at and activism I feel like it is smart and like it's funny right Doublemint trust and if I clicked in child by the incremental when I'm uncomfortable in here the entire identity in the event remains louder and we're not rescheduling your letters they must assign a peer specialist in Jews living in the moment believe me I've spoken in the walk around feeling to that [Music] like when I got Megan no way never content you Vegas with it has the authenticity the Dodge Ram your birth we lobby and beard all that I would be like that we don't like it kind of makeover Monica's making like a model that voice is Steve he owns interstate motor sport and he encouraged me to have fun in this truck but next we had to stop for gas which takes a while [Music] we were back on the road on the highway next we tried a couple of acceleration runs through a tunnel because you know they feel between and then it's like okay I don't know I want to really know that then Steve had a suggestion drive the truck over the ultra narrow one hundred and fifteen year old Washington Crossing bridge over the Delaware River I was nervous at first then I went for it and then we were off the bridge and the drive came to an end so there's the Lamborghini lm002 it is simply a combination of the absurd the most ridiculous supercar engine you can imagine and the most capable off-road er you could find imagine if a Hummer h1 had the engine from a Lamborghini Aventador and that was basically this thing except with unbelievably limited production these things are worth two three four hundred thousand dollars but I promise you as interest in old SUVs grows and SUV values continue to rise this thing will be looked at as the all-time king of the hill the one time that Lamborghini truly went crazy for a few years in the 1980s and I promise you that someday this will be a million dollar car [Music]
