the Las Vegas Raiders drafted defensive and Tyree Wilson with the seventh overall pick last season and so many people have already written this guy off so today what we're going to do is we're going to analyze some of his tape we're going look at the pros and cons of Tyreek Wilson we're going to talk about how this guy can actually take the next step as he goes into year two I want to start right away talking about some of the pros that Tyre Wilson has you know when I look at Tyre Wilson and I compare him to some of the guys we ultimately took him over I still scratched my head as to why the Raiders made that decision kija KY has become one of the best pass brushing defensive tackles in the NFL you look at a guy like Jaylen Carter he's become one of the best overall defensive tackles in the NFL and you can even look at some of the edge players that came after Tyreek Wilson and they're having a ton of success but on the other end the Raiders took the potential with Tyre Wilson and we saw some flashes of that potential we saw this guy absolutely crush it against the run in fact I think Tyre Wilson is a phenomenal run blocker he look at Malcolm Coons Bryce Huff you look at Jonathan gernard these are guys that are Elite pass rushers but they're not great against the run and then you got guys like Terry Wilson who's an elite run Defender but he needs to still continue to get better against the pass but do not Overlook that fact ter Wilson is an absolute Elite run Defender one of the things that Terry Wilson does and it's really something you can't teach guys it's really control guys at the line of scrimmage it's really just use this reach I I think easily Terry Wilson's biggest asset is his ability to use that reach right Max Crosby does not have the reach that T Wilson doeses Malcolm Coons does not have the reach that Tyre Wilson does and Ty Wilson definitely displays that on tape you can see so many plays where this guy has success and is because of that reach right and I think that's something he can continue to build on as he kind of goes into his second season we'll talk about that a little bit later on here but to me Tyre Wilson's biggest strength is his run defense he does a great job using hands he does a great job controlling people he does a great job making sure his hands are timed well and they're Landing exactly where you want them to land specifically against the run one of the things I've noticed watching Ty Wilson the tape is pretty much every single tight end struggles against ter Wilson and that's not the same you know when you're blocking matol Coons and no hate on mat I love mat I think he's a phenomenal football player but if you're TJ hackinson and you're blocking Malcolm Coons is not going to be a struggle if you're TJ hackinson and you're trying to block T Wilson you're going to struggle it's just what it is ter Wilson has an elite reach he's strong as hell and he knows how to use that to essentially defend the run and that's definitely Tyreek Wilson's biggest asset now another thing Tyreek Wilson does against the run that I think is definitely underrated is going to be how he changes Direction it's how he's able to read plays and how he's able to recognize and then from that point you know shift his hips you know rather he has to you know read the quarterback and then come down and tackle the running back or maybe it's some sort of bootleg or play action and you know Tyre Wilson squeezes down the Gap and as soon as the quarterback rolls out of there Tyree Wilson changes Direction and and chases that down right tyriek Wilson is an elite athletic football player for especially for his size right and I think with tyry Wilson the thing is is the ability to have that reach to have that change of Direction and to be able to kind of put that together I think is going to allow this guy to actually take that year to week right I think it's going to allow Ty wison to actually have success in his second season right and there's so many different parts of being a a run Defender you know it's not just one or two or three things right if you think about being able to defend the Run there's Zone runs there's power runs there's playing you know outside shoulder of the tackle versus the inside shoulder of the tackle maybe you're lined up over a guard inside or outside uh there's so many different techniques there's so many different positions there's so many different to when it comes to actually being able to defend the run you know if a guy is trying to reach Tyreek Wilson and trying to get on the front side of him he has the reach to get his hands on that guy and not allow the reach to happen on the other end if a guy is going to block Tyre Wilson and maybe a second guy is coming to double team tyry Wilson Wilson's good enough against a run to hold his own ground right and that's not always the case and you see defensive tackle struggle to hold their ground ter Wilson is one of those guys that does not struggle right so I want wanted to just make it a a point of emphasis that T Wilson is an elite run Defender but with that uh he does have a ton of things on tape that I think he has to improve and this next you know five six minute segment is not going to be pretty but you know facts are facts and I think in order for Tyree Wilson to get better he has to know what he struggles with uh and to me you know I know ter Wilson knows what he struggles with and I know Terry Wilson is working on those things all right so one of the thinks Harry Wilson struggles with just right off the bat is the lack of having a pass rush plan you know when you look at Max Crosby when Crosby goes up against the right tackle 25 times he's going to come up with multiple different moves right on the first play of the game Max har is going to fire up field he's going to try to use speed on the second play of the game he's going to fire up field he's going to fake towards the outside he's going to quickly spin back to the inside then on the third play of the game he's going to want once again just shoot the inside Gap he's not even going to fire up field but Max Ry mixes it up and that's kind of true across the board with guys that have a pass rush plan all right you got to know before the play even begins that this is kind of what I want to do going up against this guy you got to be able to understand the situation right third and one is completely different than third and 12 and to me right now Ty Wilson doesn't have a pass rush plan he doesn't know how to use his hands he doesn't know how to leverage his body in a specific way he doesn't know how to move properly or at least he hasn't fine-tuned it and we'll get into what I mean by that a little bit later on but I want to show you guys an example of having a passor plant and we'll use Jaylen Carter as an example because Carter's rookie tape is phenomenal so Jaylen Carter on this passor right here is going to lean towards the right of the screen as he leans towards the right of the screen you see the senters start to lean a little bit that way as well and then Jaylen Carter with his right hand is going to swap the center's shoulder and then from there the left arm's going to come over the top and then his hands are now in a position where he has the leverage on the center and you can see that at the end of this play after he fakes to the right right hand punch left arm comes over the top at the end of this you can see his hands kind of push down the center you can see how he uses that leverage that's having a pass first plan right everything Jaylen Carter does in that play it's by Design right fake One Way fake the other punch One Way arm over the top those are you know those are moves that you're essentially practicing and and you're applying it it's working right with Ty Wilson he doesn't have a pass rush plan he doesn't use his body well he doesn't come with the fake left and a fake right he isn't trying to swat and spin and he's not trying to do all these different things right tyry Wilson for the most part is going to bull rush a offensive lineman he's going to try to get the hands to the inside he's going to try to push this guy backwards and Tyre wison does have Elite strength but if you don't have a pass rush plan it's very easy for offensive lineman to anchor down in fact I think one of the things with Tyreek Wilson this past season was that he had so many snaps where he really didn't generate any sort of uh pressure he had a ton of snaps that really didn't work for the Raiders and uh I think for Tyrie Wilson if he's able to develop that plan if he's able to start using his hands a little bit better it allow him to actually have success now those a play that really made me realize that T Wilson doesn't have a plan he doesn't really know what he's doing uh it was a play against the Kansas City Chiefs I think it was against their Right Guard Trey Smith t Wilson basically tried to rip pass Trac M but the rip was absolutely terrible right because usually when you're going to rip right you're going to usually swipe you're going to hesy you're going to show something to that offensive lineman to make him think before you throw the rip move in there Terry Wilson doesn't do that on this play here he literally just goes straight to the rip move it's super ineffective it doesn't actually you know it doesn't actually work he doesn't actually gain The Leverage you know guys aren't just throwing that rip MO move in there for no reason there's a point of that right when an offensive lineman has their hands on you the rip move is to break the contact right you're supposed to do a circle motion to get the hands off of you right that's the entire point of a rip check this play out here by by Tyreek uh by Jaylen Carter uh he's going up against in my opinion the best guard in the NFL that is Tyler Smith Jaylen Carter is going to get out of his St he's going to first throw a double hand swipe to Tyler Smith the double hand swipe does land and then from that he then rips at that point right you can see that left hand get in there that left hand when you get that hand in there uh that rip move right there is going to allow you to have that leverage right and that rip move allows Jaylen Carter to actually get the sack on the quarterback right so Terry Wilson has to develop the rush plan it is not just the rush plan that he has to develop he has to develop the counters he has to be able to go from his first move to the second move to the third move so on that play where Jaylen Carter beat Tyler Smith you saw that he went to his first move which was the double hand swipe and then he ripped right that was his first initial move now if that didn't work he would have to then say okay what am I going to do off of this it didn't work it got shut down maybe I'm going to spin back to the inside maybe I'm going to apply a second or third move counter to this pass rush uh tabry Wilson has to develop a second and a third move and we'll use this play here against Kansas City Chiefs with Malcolm Co that c is going up against Wan Morris and you're going to see Malcolm Co initially try to hit some sort of outside move Morris ises a great job with the timing he ends up Landing both hands right to the inside left hand land to the inside right hand lands on the shoulder pad and Co initially gets his first move shut down so Co is going to Pivot he's going to get the right hand he's going to try to remove the leverage that Morris has and then with that he's going to then go to his next pass rush move which is he's going to then spin back to the inside and then ultimately he ends getting the quarterback then he ends up bringing the quarterback down for a sack right but matol Coons has a pass rush plan right he knows what he's going to do and if it doesn't work he has that second third and fourth counter he's going to just continuously come play in play out and it's something that Max Crosby does all the time as well right if the first move does not work he'll have a second counter he'll have a third counter he'll have a fourth counter with tyry Wilson he doesn't have that at the moment so uh can tyry Wilson actually get better absolutely he absolutely can get better and we're going to talk about that here in a second but I I do want to just say this you know talking about the cons that Tyreek Wilson had this past season the struggles to get after the quarterback you know I say all that not to crush tyriek Wilson I personally really really like Tyreek Wilson I think he has a ton of potential I think he can become a really good football player but I do think he has to develop and he has to be able to get to that point where he ultimately becomes that football player but again I say all of what I say because I've seen pass rushers that have struggled in their first year right I've seen guys like Malcolm Coons early on in the process I remember getting crushed on social media because I said Malcolm Coons is a better football player than Denzel Perryman this was after Denzel Perryman had his Pro Bowl caliber year right he had a ton of tackles and I still said malcol Co is better I got crushed I went viral within you know the Raider Nation Twitter groups and uh people came after me were like this guy has no idea of what he's talking about uh when it comes to pass rushers you can tell pretty much right away if a guy's gonna be a good football player or not there are a couple of players that you know it does take time you know you can see flashes but it's not 100% there uh you know Malcolm Co is on one end where the guy has a ton of pass rush upside but then you got guys like ran Gary rashan Gary wasn't that good in his first season but what he had was he had an athletic profile he had a great Bend uh and he was able to develop that and he became a really good football player Alex heith for the Pittsburgh Steelers kind of took that same you know same approach he wasn't great early on but he developed into probably a top 10 defensive end in the NFL and I think Ty Wilson also fits that same mold where he can develop into a really good football player so how can he actually get there how can Tyre Wilson get to the point uh where he actually does develop right so the first thing that this guy can do is this guy can take some of his strengths and he can apply it to his pass rush right so for example Terry Wilson last season did a great job with the Hands by specifically against the Run he'd get his hands on guys he'd create that separation he'd toss people to the side and that's a that's a trait that T Wilson already has so what he can do with that is he can just continue to develop it right he can continue to use the hands he can continue to bench press guys off of him and he did do it slightly last season it just wasn't perfect obviously he has to develop but he did show us a little bit that he is able to use those hands he is able to keep people off of him I think as tyry Wilson just continues to develop some of those things he already does well I think things he does against the run and applies it to his pass rush I think that's going to allow him to have success now we also talked a little bit earlier about the change of direction that tyry Wilson has right how he's able to kind of move and those type of things so one of the ways Ty Wilson had success last season was utilizing that change of direction right Patrick Graham ran a ton of defensive line games and because Terry Wilson is strong but more than being strong the fact that he's quick in his ability to change uh Direction essentially for him to have success this season one of the things the Raiders can do is to get this guy into more games get this guy into stunts and twists let him and Christian Wilkins Wilkin is also very very fast let those two guys Run games let those guys cross one another let Carri go first on one play let Christian go first on the second play uh and that's also another way Terry Wilson can essentially have success in his second season right and then I talked about having that pass rush planned uh one of the things I did see from tyry Wilson last season this was I think the second or third last game of the season was he actually tried this move and I think it was the only it was the only time I saw Ty Wilson uh actually tried to do something right uh and essentially what that was was uh he tried to you know fake hezi and you you can actually see it he gets out of his stance he fakes to the inside the tackle even slightly leans inwards and then from there he's going to hit it with the second move which uh is basically going to be a rip move right he's going to end up getting the right hand underneath the offens tackle he uses that as leverage and uh he gets to the quarterback and the thing with this move is I didn't really see this from Tyreek Wilson for most of the season and even from that point where we actually saw this play forward you know you really didn't see him actually try it that often I think this season maybe two or three times in total T Wilson actually tried you know you know using heesy moves he tried faking one word the other uh he tried you know swiping with the arm over right where it's some sort of combo um so he just needs to get more efficient at that right he needs to get more efficient with the fakes uh he needs to you know he's an elite bull rusher right and I I kind of want to talk about that as well so if Terry Wilson wants to take that next step although he only bull rashes at the moment when he starts adding elements to his game when he starts to you know first he bull rushes the guy and then on the next play he fakes like he's going to bll rush but instead he swats and brings the arm over the top when Tyreek Wilson starts adding all these different elements to his bull rush his bull rush is actually going to become an elite part of his game right the bull rush in itself because now guys don't know is he going to only bull rush or is he going to double hand swipe or what's Terry Wilson about to do so the second he starts doing all these different things that Bor Rush becomes Elite right because he has Elite power he has Elite strength right so it just really comes down to Tye Wilson kind of putting it all together and I think as we go into this next season I think he will put it together right I think Malcolm Coons Max cros are guys that you can look at and say you know one guy's great one guy's becoming great but how did that second guy become great what it was because of essentially that first guy and I think with Tyre Wilson you can probably assume it's going to be the same way right where he'll be able to watch Max he'll be able to learn from Max and we've already been hearing all of this right Max has told us himself that you know uh Tyre has put the work in with him right but this season as we go into it I want to see T Wilson really take that next step in his game I think he will we'll see what ends up happening let me know what you guys think in the comments below thumbs up subscribe and I will see you guys next time with another video
