hell divers 2 just came out and as a steam deck junkie I wanted to see if the deck was going to be powerful enough to run it and spoiler alert it is but don't think you're going to be running it on all Ultra we're going to go over performance using the low medium and high presets and then I'm going to show you my custom mix that I think strikes the best balance between visuals and FPS and before you ask I got some good news this game requires no tinkering to get working it just boots up and works Straight Out of the Box okay first let's get a baseline setting everything to low with no resolution upscaling and as you can see we're getting around 40 to 45 FPS not great but not terrible that gives us something to work with this is totally playable and it looks okay but don't you worry we're going to get better visuals and better frame rates with some tricks I'll show you later but before we do that I would highly recommend bumping up the UI scaling to the max it just makes the HUD elements easier to read on the small steam deck screen with that out of the way let's do the all medium preset again no upscaling and while this does look quite a bit bit better we're getting frame rates in the mid 20s which I would say isn't really playable I mean you can but it makes the game feel kind of laggy and unresponsive then just for fun let's check out the high preset and now we're getting in the low 20s and this really isn't playable that being said I'm a bit surprised that the difference between medium and high was only a few FPS all right now let's get into the fun part maxing out our visuals while getting a reasonable frame rate after playing around with a bunch of different settings for a while this is what I settled in on we're targeting a locked 40 FPS while you can get pretty close to a locked 60 if you lower all of the settings the visuals look pretty bad so I think 40 FPS is our sweet spot and how we're going to achieve this locked 40 FPS is the low preset and then we're just going to bump up a few settings to medium and those are texture quality object detail quality vegetation and Rubble density and terrain quality and everything else is on low then in the display settings menu change the the render scale to Quality that means the game will render at a lower resolution then upscale to the steam deck native resolution and it gets us some extra FPS as you can see with these settings we're generally averaging in the high 40s to low 50s which is really solid the lowest dips I saw were in the high 30s so if you locked this game to 40 you're going to get some minor dips but it's mostly going to be locked at 40 visually I think this game with these settings looks great and if you wanted to bump up a few more settings and lock it to 30 FPS that would also be a good option I just prefer the slightly higher 40 FPS Target personally but you do you all right if you have any questions or tests you want me to run let me know in the comment section below and I'm just going to let the gameplay run for a while so you can see the performance for yourselves to PR life for super for for feel Rel land for for
