HBK On Being Afraid To Speak To Undertaker The Day After Montreal

[Music] so obviously montreal is something you've talked about 100 million times i've thought if i was going to ask you any question it's got to be something you've not talked about before so montreal happens you agree to do it you agree to participate but vince mcmahon tells you you cannot anywhere publicly tell anybody that you knew about it you had to pretend that like brett you don't know what's going to happen the next day on tv when you guys get there you know mick foley said he he went home he didn't want to come back what was it like for you the next day because it's still very raw pardon the pun but like you get to tv and you've got to now completely keep up this lie to everybody um knowing that you know one day if you tell the truth they might be pissed that you've lied to for years of good friends or whatever what was it like the next day when you got to tv after survivor series well sure clearly you're worried about going i mean uh but only just from like i can hear you know it's one of those things that i wonder what the what it's going to be like you know what's the uh atmosphere temperature going to be like the only thing but as far as what everybody thought and you know and they got i could i didn't care i i asked about one dude when i went in i said where's taker i said where's mark and uh they said he's in there with vince and i said all right because that was the i think because it's a sick and you have to understand you know we've been there for a long time yadda yadda there it's two very different guys very different personalities but by this time even even then you know we knew that you know that there were two you know two sort of pillars within the wwe that were gonna be you know for the most part you know everything was sort of built around and and that's the only person i just wondered i just need to know where he's at on this you know what i mean i just need to know where he's at because if if there's somebody you gotta sit there and have a chat with it's gonna be him we're gonna have to you know i mean for this all of this to move forward he and i are gonna have to find a way to you know what i mean get simpatico on this and so and that's and clearly vince knew the same thing and that's why he was the first guy you know he talked to the next day and and to this day and it because it's one of those things if so much has passed that we've never even discussed it i've like i've never asked him like what do we know so what are you telling in there but he you know i remember waiting on him and he came out he walked up to me goes we're cool off he went i went all right [Music] and then and then it was like and there was it was it was all you know both barrels loaded after that it was whatever it is they wanted we went you know we went full gear and um but yeah i mean and honestly and i don't mean it in a bad way but again it wasn't you know it wasn't fun by any stretch i mean that's one of the things that i think over the years that it it even you know brett knight both for us both to get sort of past our own sort of personal feelings about it i think when we finally started putting ourselves in the other person's shoes i think that's what helped to get it all over with i do i honestly think um when brett realized that like okay you know you know what he heard me say enough times like hey not like i was thrilled to be that dude you know i mean it isn't it isn't like i ever when i was you know 12 years old 15 years old i sat at home going no i don't want to just be a pro wrestler i want to be a pro wrestler and then when i'm in it i want everybody in that industry to hate my guts and be the most hated guy in the wrestling business you know i mean that isn't what you that is what you hope for it and when i would leave this in this and the show and that image and that kind of junk and go back to san antonio texas and just be sean hickenbottom and sit there in the mirror and realize damn dude you're the most hated guy in wrestling it sucked it was absolutely it was you know again it wasn't anything you aspire to do it wasn't what you dreamed of being um when you were 12. and so it and i think you know it took people a long time to you know sort of because you do i mean it's very you know you get cut you know all you can do is think about your own wound um you know you don't really think about you know whatever the guilt and all that junk that the other person may have you know felt about you know doing that to you or why they did it and stuff like that and again not that i'm looking for anybody to cry me a river don't get me wrong um it was just it's not like it was a blast uh it wasn't and like you said so it um you know what are those things that it's i don't know you're a grown man in a grown business you got a man up do it you and and and you go on but like all i ever tells people is like yo don't get me wrong it's not like it was you know that's again that's the gig you're looking for you know it wasn't [Music] you
