hey guys welcome back if you're new here my name is becca and today i have part two of my december and christmas book haul [Music] so this is pretty much just going to be my december book haul there are a couple of gifts in here that i opened on christmas day but anything that was sent to me by bookish friends was all included in my big christmas book unboxing which i will link up here in case you guys missed it as usual this book haul will be separated into the places where i acquired the books from today we have subscription box books we have a book sent to me by either the publisher or the author books i have bought new and the few gifts that i have from christmas but a book haul needs no further introduction than that so let us get started first off with the books that i bought new so i will be starting off with an ebook this is in the section of bought new even though it was a free ebook that was included in prime reading so if you have amazon prime you have a selection of books that you can read in ebook format for free which is completely separate to kindle unlimited i have already read this book as well i got it because i was buddy reading it with gavin from how to train your gavin and also kelsey who is also known as kj sutton the author of the fortuna swan series and i will put a link to my wrap-up over here if you want to know my thoughts on it but this was verity by colleen hoover i am quite a big fan of colleen hoover i've read a lot of her books and they're the perfect books for getting out of reading slumps and things like that verity is a little bit different because it is a romantic thriller and it follows a woman who is a writer and she has been asked to continue a series that has been started by an established author who was in a car accident and is unable to write the last three books in the series so because she has been asked to do this she heads to the family home of this woman who is called rarity so that she can go through her office and look for notes and any outlines that she might have had for the rest of the books in the series while she was doing that she uncovers a manuscript that verity was writing which was autobiographical and it may contain some information that pertains to the deaths of verity and her husband's twin daughters who died about six months prior to the narrative of the story and the main character has to decide whether she's going to share this information with verity's husband the next one i have is a pre-order that i was supposed to read in december however i just don't think i'm gonna get to it and i'm really sad because i really wanted to read it and that is ready player 2 by ernest cline this is the sequel to ready player one i was a little bit undecided i knew i was going to pick this up but i just didn't know whether it would be necessary because i think ready player one just stands on its own perfectly it was one of my favorite books of 2018 but i was always going to give this a try i'm really sad that i didn't manage to read it because of how much i love ready play one i have no idea what direction the sequel is going to be taking the story but the first book is set in this dystopian world where everyday life is miserable so the citizens spend most of their time in the oasis which is a virtual world the creator of the oasis passed away a few years ago and he left easter eggs in the world and whoever can find the easter eggs will inherit everything that the creator james halliday owned which includes control of the oasis another book i would very much like to read in january and i already know that january is going to be just full of huge books is kingdom of flesh and fire by jennifer l armentrout this is the sequel to from blood and ash which i did make a completely non-spoiler like reaction vlog to earlier on in december as soon as i finished from blood nash i ordered kingdom of flesh and fire because i want to read it immediately however i did buddy read from blood and ash with kelsey also known as kj sutton again and i'm waiting for her to get hold of a copy so that we can buddy read this together as well so from blood and ash is set in this world that has a variety of paranormal creatures however there is a lot of mystery and ambiguity surrounding like what types of paranormal creatures these are and we are following a girl called poppy who is a maiden so she is never to be looked upon never to be touched she's not allowed to talk to people and on her 19th birthday she is going to ascend and be given to the gods so she has been kept in this kind of pristine state so that she is like pure and the maiden for her ascension the love interest in from blood and ash is a man called hawk who has been tasked with guardian poppy until her ascension and as it is a noodle fantasy romance i think you can see where this is coming like there's a romance between the two of them and throughout the first book the plot does start to thicken quite a bit for the books that were sent to me either by the author or the publisher the first one i have is deadly dreams by kj sutton who is just infiltrating this book called quite a lot apparently as you may have guessed from all the buddy reads i am quite good friends with kelsey and shortly before deadly dreams which is the third installment in the fortune of swan series was released she sent me a copy of deadly dreams and i read it immediately i devoured it i loved the fortuna swan series so if you are unfamiliar with what fortuna swan is it is a new adult fantasy romance series that follows a woman called fortuna who is a nightmare which means that she can make people believe that they are experiencing their worst fears fortuna's brother went missing without a trace two years prior to the start of the book and she has been desperately searching for him with absolutely no results that is until a very powerful fairy mail appears and tells fortuna that he knows exactly where her brother is and can take her directly to him providing that she marries him the other book that was sent to me to review was unchosen by catherine blair this was sent to me by harper360 said thank you so much i requested this because catherine blair is an author who's written a book that i have previously enjoyed and that one was the beckoning shadow so i didn't really request this based on the synopsis but based on having already enjoyed work by this author this one takes place in a kind of i want to say dystopian society where a virus like curse has spread throughout the world and the main character is one of i think three sisters and she never thought that she would be the one to save the world but apparently she is as you may have noticed my knowledge on the plot of this is a little bit spotty however i did request it based on how much i enjoyed the beckoning shadow so this one is released on the 21st of january so i do hope to be reading this in january and i'm really excited because catherine blair writes books that you wouldn't think i would like it's quite fast-paced action why a which generally in any other context i'm not a big fan of but there was something about the beckoning shadow that i really enjoyed and i hope it carries through to this book as well the next six that i have are all subscription box books the first one is master of one by jd jones and danny bennett this was the december fairy loot book and this is a fae story and i also believe that it is queer so i'm really excited to delve into this one because the synopsis honestly just sounds amazing this is a book that i kind of seen around but didn't really grasp what it was about and as soon as i read the synopsis i was desperate to read it so in here we are following a young man or a young fairy i'm not entirely sure called rags who is taken by the royal sorcerer and forced to steal six pieces of an ancient fey relic however the six pieces are actually people it sounds like a mix of fairy fantasy and also a high story with assumedly because i've heard this is queer it's gonna have a queer romance in here as well which i am really excited about the next one is the november earthquake book and that is among the be some briars by ashley poston once again this was a book that i seen around but i wasn't sure if i wanted to pick it up however when i read the synopsis i was sold this book takes place in a kingdom that is apparently very safe it is known for being safe however it is surrounded by these cursed words i mean main character keris was trapped in the woods or she was passing through the woods when she was younger and she barely escaped with her life however as a new queen is crowned in this city all of the bad things from the woods seem to be emerging and encroaching on the city and the main character keris has to run away and she has like some animal companions as well it just sounds really really magical i also really love this earthquake cover and while it is not a story i would usually gravitate towards i'm just i'm really intrigued i do hope i enjoy this one the next four are all illumicrate books the first two being from the december box which i have not yet posted my unboxing for i've literally just filmed it but the first one is the cousins by karen mcmanus this was the extra book in the december box occasionally they do have two books so this one is a young adult thriller and it follows the story family i'm not really too sure on the plot of this one but it is a thriller so i do tend to go in blind anyway i haven't read anything by karen mcmanus before but i have heard that she is a very good young adult thriller author so i am excited to give her a try the second book in the december box was the ravens by cass morgan and danielle page i do have an arc of this from netgalley so i'm going to be reading this very very soon and this takes place in a sorority where all of the members of the sorority are witches so i have never read a book by cass morgan or danielle page before but when i was browsing netgalley these synopsis really stood out to me mainly because of the witches like a sorority of witches i feel like i can get behind this book and i will be reading it very soon because i have an arc so i'm hoping that i enjoy it we then have the 10th anniversary edition of a daughter of smoke and bone by laini taylor i have yet to read this series my editions i have are the outer print uk hardbacks and i really enjoyed strange the dreamer and muse of nightmares from laini taylor and this follows a girl called crew and she kind of lives a double life she is an art student in prague and she is also a messenger for some kind of i think he's a chimera but he's a demon of some sort i believe this series i think also contains angels and a devil or angels and demons i don't know but i really love laini taylor's writing i'm really excited to get into this series and this edition with the new reprinted cover is really pretty the last subscription box book i have is the wants and future witches by alex e harrow i really like the illumicrate edition of this because it has these stunning burgundy sprayed edges but this i don't know too much about it because i'm not necessarily sure it's a book that i would have picked up if it wasn't included in a subscription box but it takes place in the 1890s so it's like a historical fantasy and it follows three sisters who join the suffragettes and then also start to dabble in witchcraft once again this contains witches which i am a big fan of and yeah i'm not sure why i wasn't really drawn to this i think i saw some reviews that the writing style was not as people expected and i didn't really know what to make of that but i am excited to give this a go and it does have a really beautiful cover so the last stack of books i have are the gifts that i opened on christmas day the first one is from ashley from frolic through fiction and it is the folio society edition of rebecca by daphne du maurier rebecca is my favorite classic and it is also my namesake so i always wanted a really pretty edition of this and ashley came through this christmas so thank you so much ashley for gifting this to me rebecca is about a young woman who is on holiday she's kind of an assistant to this old rich lady and she meets the very handsome widow max de winter they have a whirlwind romance they get married and he takes her back to his home which is mandalay where the main character is haunted by the ghost of his ex-wife rebecca i really love this book it is a very suspenseful gothic thriller and the folio edition is absolutely beautiful and it is also something that i did not realize it would be it is also illustrated the last three books that i have were gifts from my best friend ryan the first one of which is this is how you lose the time war by amal el mota and max gladstone this is a book that wasn't really drawing my attention when it was first released however the more reviews i've seen and the more i learned about it the more intrigued i am so this i think is told in two separate things like you read it one way and then you also read it backwards and this follows two agents one is called red one is called blue and they are both trying to secure the best future for their factions i think there's a romance in here as well i'm really not sure because i i don't feel like i've heard very much information about the actual plot but i do know that it is kind of like a sci-fi dystopian has a little bit of romance and it's really short as well so i am really intrigued by this the second book that he gifted me i don't need to give you any information on because i've already explained it in this video but that is ready player one by ernest cline when the sequel was being released they made this really nice edition of ready player one with like an 8-bit style it also has 8-bit end pages i'm not sure why they did it because i thought they were going to make the sequel match and it would be like to make it a cohesive design that doesn't seem to be the case but regardless i really love this new hardback cover so thank you so much ryan for gifting this to me and the final book from ryan was lives of saints by leigh bardugo this is a companion to the grisha trilogy and six of crows that has been released because of the upcoming netflix show this is a book that is also present in the grisha trilogy it is all of the saints of rafka so it's kind of like a non-fiction in the world that has been reproduced in the design of a prop replica because i believe that this is what it looks like in the show i really like cool little things like this that are from the world of series that i enjoy or associated with the series i enjoy so this is something that i really wanted to have i do like getting the background information of the world building of books that isn't like included on the page so i do think that this is actually going to be quite an interesting read and i'm really glad that i have it so those are all the books but i just have a few extra items i was gifted by ryan that are all bookish theme that i would like to show you i believe that all of them are from small artists or small businesses so i will link all of that information down in my description box but the first one is this small print of madame blackbeak from the throne of glass series and this one i believe is from the website bookish and stuff the second print that he gifted me i'm not sure who the artist is but i will find out and leave that information in my description box but um he kept telling me he bought me an erotic prince so i was really intrigued and it is this um topless print of resand and we all know how much i adore resand so i am actually going to get a really bougie frame to put this in and it will have pride of place in the reading room he also got me a couple of sets of bookmarks from my favorite bookmark company which are happy hilloco you can find them on etsy the first set that he got me were the hamilton characters so we have king george lafayette hamilton and the skylar sisters and the second set he got me were ruined hunt bryce and danica from crescent city and then finally the last bookish item is this book sleeve this is from book besties uk who are my go-to book sleeve company because they are uk based and she has a wonderful selection of fabric as well as collaborating with bookish artists this one is a hamilton fabric so fits in with the theme of a few of my gifts as you guys know that i have over this last year become pretty much obsessed with hamilton so that is it those are all the books i have acquired in the month of december i have gained quite a few books over the festive period so i am looking to work out some kind of terms for next year for a pretty much a book buying ban but that still allows me to have pre-orders and stuff i want to make it kind of fun and challenging for myself as well to do it in a way that's like if i do something i will have this much money to spend on books kind of situation so i will be working that out in the new year and letting you guys know what that is but please let me know down in the comments if you have read any of the books from this haul and what you thought of them please also don't forget to like this video if you liked it and subscribe if you wanna if you head into my description box you will find links to my goodreads instagram twitter if you'd like to follow me on any of those as well as a link to my bookish bodybutter and candle website the instagram for that and 10 off discount code but that is it for me today guys so i hope you guys all had a very merry christmas [Music] bye [Music]
