we're gonna get out of the way it is matthew 16 and 18 it says and i also say to say to you that you are peter and on this rock i will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it aren't you all thankful that the enemy has lost and there's nothing that he can do to stop god's purpose and plan for this anybody just thank the lord that there's no weapon form that gets us that shall prosper that god has us covered from the east and the west and the north and the south and everywhere that we go we just want to tell god thank you because he is our protection he is our refuge here's our strength in anything that we do god is with us hallelujah god we just bless you hallelujah we're going to pray father we just want to tell you thank you heavenly father we thank you did you establish us lord god we thank you that you lift us up when you build us up heavenly father we just want to tell you thank you lord god that your purpose and your will shall prevail lord god and we god who's gonna do whatever he wants to do whenever he wants to do it we're talking about the almighty god not your mother not your father not your sister or your brother they might fail you but our holy god he never fails he never fails he never fails he never fails harvest he never fails harvest he never fails even when they said he was gonna fail on our behalf harvest he's never failed so god lot to any other church but when they counted you out after the first service it means something to us as our pastor said during rally this morning he said whether you've been here five years or two days it's because of you that we're able to do this some of you might feel guilty i just got here and i'm celebrating like i've been here the whole time keep on celebrating like you've been here the whole time amen so again we welcome you we are so excited um for everything that god has done through harvest city church we're excited for what god has is bringing to the table for us today although we are celebrating we still have our arms open right ready to receive harvest all right as we celebrate we still have our expectation and we're expecting god to do great things so um our order of service today or as we're about to go forward is we're actually going to see a video that our wonderful media team can we give it up our media team [Applause] in a pandemic they sprouted out of nowhere and we got something now hey man so we're gonna see a video that has been brought to us by our media team and then we will hear from our very own pastor bill russell but can i know he's not gonna really appreciate it like the way we want him to but can we just clap it up for one of the greatest pastors in the area a fateful man of god an awesome leader a wonderful counselor y'all we really do have a great pastor we really do so i want you guys to celebrate whether you're a guest or not we are all family we want to celebrate and we want to not just celebrate harvest five years we want to celebrate jesus in this place amen can y'all do that for me so i want to try something real quick before y'all get real comfortable in your seat and get sleepy i just want to see how loud we can really get okay i just want to test something out cause it's a celebration all right if he was at the club you'd be loud if you're at a football game you'd be loud so i just want to see how loud greensboro i am so excited to share with you about a church plant that is coming to this city in the fall of 2016. harvest city church i am pastor bill russell and i have the awesome opportunity of leading this great group of amazing individuals the bible lets you know in the book of matthew and the book of luke that's a prayer to the lord of the harvest that he may sin laborers because the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are free so as a church we want to gather we want to grow together to reach the harvest to reach the souls how are we going to do it the 14 model it tells us to gather to grow to give and to go this is the opportunity you don't want to be harvested covered [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] yes [Applause] go [Music] there is a river where goodness flows there is a fountain that drowns our rose there is an ocean deeper than fear the tide is rising rising there is a current stirring deep inside it's overflowing from the heart of god the flood of heaven crashing over us the tide is rising rising [Music] [Music] we come alive deep inside [Music] [Music] and who have already lost their jobs um and we are praying we have college students that had to abruptly pack up and go home i'm coming back from this i'm coming back from this [Music] lord i thank you lord i pray that you will strengthen him i pray god that you would touch him oh father god you know the vision that you gave him you know the things that you spoke to him for the church god oh father god the devil seeks to sit there but we have prayed for him [Music] is one way [Music] and everything you thought it was i said no it was more than i ever expected hallelujah remember we had a let me just share this we had a wonderful time at our day party yesterday come on clap those hands wonderful wonderful time we had a good time thank you for all those who came that wanted to be there we love our family amen what can you say when god's been so good hallelujah i'm excited today because my mother is here saints can we honor my mother mother russell hallelujah we honor you [Music] she was here when it all started literally literally we honor her we have some guest pastors here i want to call them those who i see pastor pritchett is here pastor joseph pigeon is there and it's on can we clap our hands for him praise the lord overseer lee is here can we clap our hands for him our own dyson chairman is here pastor towns from truth and worship we love you hallelujah some of the saints will be here with us to this evening and then also it is the first time being here at our local assembly but it's not our first time seeing him if you've been in convocation or any of our events you have seen but this is overseer evan richard come on from brampton church texas we honor you overseer hallelujah he is an overseer in our great organization one way churches international aren't y'all glad about our organization our presiding bishop lorenzo hall our vice president bishop bishop s y younger it's good to be covered amen it's good to be covered it's good we're not out here just by ourselves we gotta cover we got accountability anything with accountability is subject to grow hallelujah so we are so grateful for that listen i'm excited because for the first time in the history of harvest city church we have a choir y'all we have a choir yeah come on we have a choir and our choir is getting ready to come and they're going to minister to us and y'all this is their first time so y'all be good y'all support them y'all they got mother man in the choir come on oh i love it i love it i love it i love it so after our choir sings the next voice you will hear is that of none other than overseer evan richer from brampt church texas i just want to say this as they're coming as the choir is coming i just want to say look at y'all and they got outfits come on [Music] can i say this harvest whether you joined last week or you were here five years or whether you were here and you're no longer a member and that's okay we want to say thank you come on can you thank god for every contribution that someone has made now they look like a quiet oh i'm nervous i'm excited i'm so excited so listen i want to share one more thing about overseer and he doesn't know this story um in my interview they said to me they said what about one way what is it about one way what have you seen about one way and i proceeded they asked me a few series of questions and they said is there someone in particular in this organization that draws you to one way pastor cecil scott who is our general secretary asked me that question and i said it's actually oversee a rishi and they said obviously richard i said yes i said because if this works for him i know it can work for us it's one thing if you have an organization that only works for the main church but this thing works for all of our churches amen our bishop covers all of our churches and for years i have watched them in texas and i want to say i'm humbled and honored that you are here today so after the voice of our choir the next man that you would hear is that of overseer evan richard god bless you [Applause] [Music] job the scripture lets us know that bad leadership is a curse and so when we have good leadership we ought to count that as a blessing and i don't know about you but i honor one of the greatest pastors not just in north carolina but the world can you help me celebrate pass the bill [Applause] russell [Music] so proud of you look what the lord has done this is absolutely amazing absolutely amazing um and so i want you to know i come from a culture of honor and leadership i've discovered after pastoring for nine years that the people who only get um upset when it comes to honoring leadership are people who operate in the spirit of jezebel and and so we honor leadership over here and uh we should never ever come to a place to where we allow anyone to celebrate and uh uplift our leader more than the people who sit under his leadership amen and uh i don't know why i'm saying this but you can never receive a mantle nor an inheritance from a leader that you're in competition with [Applause] amen amen now i'm just telling you i just believe that pastor russell has everything he needs in order to take this ministry to the next level the renovations are beautiful and [Music] but the bad news is that it's still too small i need you just to point to a wall in this room and say these walls are lying on us these walls are lying on us because it says that this is the biggest we can get but i'm telling you i see god moving every wall tell somebody give me some room because god is making room for me he's making room for me and i'm telling you these next five years what took other churches 10 years or 15 years rather 20 years to accomplish the lord's going to do it through this church within the next five years i'm telling you i'm telling you to all of god's people to all of the ecclesiastical giants that are here we certainly honor you to the overseer of the chairman of this diocese we thank god for pastor my brother pastor sylvester towns and to these conclave of pastors who have assembled to help us celebrate i said us because i'm a part of harvest city [Applause] to help us celebrate so y'all pray my strength i was preaching last night in um rocky mount uh north carolina and um i thought that harvest city was in greenville north carolina somebody point to me and say trick [Music] and so when i hopped in the car with minister darius and pastor russell and uh i started looking [Music] and i didn't know the trip was about two hours but we just had great fellowship and you can't come to north carolina without stopping by cookout i'm telling you what other place allows you to get quesadillas and chicken nuggets as a side so so i got to make sure that uh i make a stop when i come and so um to minister darius he has been absolutely amazing [Music] one of my sons in the ministry is here i thank god for derek he's here and uh so thankful for him how god has been blessing his business and all those good things i'm not going to stand before you alone because yeah luke chapter 13. the gospel of luke chapter number 13. and um i'm gonna backslide if you don't mind and i'll not read from the king james version is that all right at harvest am i still saved okay i'm going to read from something called the english standard version i'm okay okay i just want to make sure luke chapter 13 and let's bring our attention to verse number 10 verse number 10 five years of ministry i mean harvest i want i mean do y'all real i don't think y'all get it do y'all not realize yeah she's acting i get it do y'all not realize that what y'all accomplished in five years there are churches who've been in existence for 50 years that don't have this this is amazing tell us tell the person beside you don't take this for granted god didn't have to be this good to you don't take this for granted tell the person besides you're not entitled to this god has been good to us [Music] he really has he really has luke chapter 13 verse number 10 when you have it i want you to signify by saying i have the bread and this is what the word of the lord says to us now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath and behold look there was a woman who had a dis a billing spirit or disabling spirit rather a spirit of infirmity for 18 years she was bent over king james version said she bowed herself and could not fully straighten herself when jesus saw her he called her over and said to her woman you are freed from your disability woman thou art loose and he laid hands on her and immediately somebody shot immediately she was made straight and she glorified god spirit of the living god we thank you we praise you we honor you father we thank you for five amazing years we thank you for this great leader we thank you for this phenomenal church and father we thank you that the latter is gonna be greater than the former father i'm asking you to hide me behind the cross and let no flesh get the glory i thank you for an anointing now that would cause demons to be terrified your people to be edified and you to be glorified it's in jesus name i pray and all of god's people said amen real quick before you take your seat i just need you to help me preach this easter speech this morning i need you to look at the person beside you say neighbor god is straightening it out look at somebody else and say did you hear what i said say god is straightening this out now that was good if he was in the greensboro library but i need you to look at somebody across the sanctuary and said neighbor can you hear me from here say god is straightening this out now do me a favor loose those hands clap them like thunder come on come on cap i'm like thunder what i feel glory in the room make it person i'll tell somebody god is straightening me out [Music] oh this is a good church god is straightening this out you can be seated [Applause] but anybody that know what it is to have kinks to have nots tell somebody god is straightening this out [Music] [Applause] [Music] come on somebody said if i don't hear anything else all i needed to know is that by the time i get home everything that was crooked [Applause] tell somebody he straightened it out [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] he's straightening it out [Applause] [Music] praise the mother don't worry about the folk on your road you ain't got nothing to apologize for tell the person beside you you ain't got to know the details it ain't your business but tell them all you need to know is that god is straightening this thing out he's straightening out your court case he straighten out your legal matters everything that you thought you had to fix [Music] you had to confront you had to address god [Music] [Applause] [Music] this is a very familiar and customary passage of scripture the scripture lets us know that jesus is teaching in the synagogue and he is teaching on the shabbat he's teaching on the sabbath and the bible says that while he was preaching or while he was platitudinizing the scripture says that he notices a woman in the midst of the service now a woman being seen in worship back then wasn't anything unusual especially in jesus day because even then in some cases women were still permitted to be both active and present in the worship experience but when we talk about worship or when we talk about church liturgy which is the way or the style in which an organization chooses to conduct their worship service i want you to know that worship looked different in the synagogue in comparison to what you and i are used to in the church today and this is not a bad thing past the towns because anything watch this that ever plans to have longevity anything in life that plans to maintain its relevancy has to be something that is committed to evolving that's why some businesses and some churches if you will were unable to survive the pandemic because while being trans traditional can be a good thing being transitional is necessary because any organism any system any mechanism any person that is unwilling to change hear me unwilling to learn are unwilling to adapt will eventually die out that's why jesus tells us in the gospel of john chapter 14 he says greater works shall you do in my name why because here it is greatness has always been allergic to being stuck tell somebody i'm too great to be stuck come on i'm too anointed to be silent i i'm too gifted to be controlled i'm i'm too intelligent to be limited just because you knew who i was yesterday it does not mean you know who i am today because i'm all ways evolving [Music] and so the church has always evolved over time and women have always been a part of its evolution women have always been involved if you will why are you saying this pastor because there have been those who have attempted to impose and indoctrinate a falsified theology around the ideology of first corinthians chapter 14 verse 34 where paul mentions that women are to be silent in the church and some have even gone on to interpret that scripture as meaning that women can't preach in the church when that's not what the apostle paul was trying to communicate in the text and so in order for us to be hermeneutically sound one must present the text or the context while being integral to the context and the context is the circumstance that forms the setting for the event the statement or the idea in which something can always be fully understood or assessed and so when paul said women are to be silent in the church when you provide the proper context it's critical and so the question now becomes why did paul say this because that's what context asks as it pertains to content okay all right ask the person beside you why did paul say this i'm glad you asked the reason why paul made this statement is because in that day women were not allowed to sit with the men in the synagogue but they were made to sit in the back they were made to sit in the balcony and because church was not as technologically advanced back then as it is today there were no such things as pa systems or these wonderful uh speakers that are hanging from the ceiling no uh oh god so because there was no p a system uh when the rabbi would teach when the pastor if you will would teach it would often times make it difficult for those who were in the balcony to understand or to comprehend what the rabbi was actually saying and so because of this the women would then lean over the balcony and they would ask their husband what is the preacher saying what is the rabbi saying but as you can imagine this practice would eventually become a distraction and so it was stan the apostle paul he pulled out a pen he pulled out a pad he began to formulate a liturgy as it pertains to the church to fit the context within that time frame in hopes to eliminate the most distraction and so he begin to write women ought to be silent in the church verse 35 and if they have something they want to ask let them ask their husbands at home somebody shout context because to take this scripture literally without placing it in its proper context will eliminate the voice of women all together within the church and so not only would it mean that women are not allowed to not allowed to preach but it would mean that women are not allowed to sing it would mean that women are not allowed to say hi it would mean that women are not allowed to say bye girl i'll catch you next week it'll mean that women can't greet you at the door it'll mean that women can't do the announcements why because silent means somebody shout context and so oh god and so for jesus to notice this woman in service now the claiborne was not anything unusual but how she got his attention man of god was it wasn't unusual that he saw her in service but how she how she got his attention was unusual now she didn't get his attention because she had the best shout out she didn't get his attention because she had the best shout she didn't get his attention because she had the uh a gargantuan offering didn't get his attention because she was waving her hands in worship no but the reason why she was able to catch his attention is because when he saw her she was bent over it's almost as if her posture was that of a hook she was bent over hear me jesus recognized this woman because watch this she was the only woman in the room who looked out of place [Applause] why because when god made you in his image when you became the imago day when when you were created in the image of god it was never his intent for you to live a life bent over i want to talk to somebody who know what it is to live their life or bend over because of some bad decisions that you made in your past because of some mistakes that you made in your past and so now you've grown accustomed to living your life bend over maybe you were raped maybe you were molested as a child maybe you were abused maybe you went through a rough breakup in your life and because of that you've been living your life bent over there was a time you used to have confidence that there was a time you used to feel pretty there was a time you thought you were smart you used to be you thought you was a good man you thought you was a good woman but something happened [Applause] something happened in your life now you're living your life bent over something happened where the church folk don't even know about something happened serving well but the people you serve with the people you play with don't even know what you're going through smiling on the outside but playing bent over singing bent over preaching bent over tell somebody something happened something happened in your life to where your family told you to be quiet about it whatever you do don't say nothing don't don't let this leave the house don't don't let the lip shh tell somebody something happened and now you've been carrying this guilt and you've been carrying this shame and you've been carrying the pain of it and you've been carrying the weight of it all and it's caused you to live your life been to over and the text says watch this not only was she bent over past the towns but the text says that she's been this way for 18 years for 18 years she was afraid to look up for 18 years she walked around with her head hung down yeah for 18 years she was going to the temple wearing the shame of it all i want to ask you a question harvest what do you do when it seems like what you've been carrying has now become a part of your identity what do you do when what you've been carrying has now become a part of your daily regimen and routine when you study biblical numerology you'll know that the number 18 represents bondage the word bondage means enslavement the word bondage means one who is tied up or restrained and so for 18 years she's been a slave to what's had her bent over oh god but now the question becomes why was she bent over well the bible says that she had a spirit of infirmity now for those of you who love the word and take notes i need you to understand this having here it is an infirmity and having a spirit of infirmity are two different things to have an infirmity it means that i have some kind of physical weakness within my anatomy but the spirit of infirmity means that i have a oh god it means that i have a weakness in my mind [Applause] that word spirit in the hebrew greek lexicon it means pneuma now this word pneuma is used in reference to the holy spirit over 213 times in the bible but it is also translated to mean here it is one with a rational spirit somebody shout context that would have to make sense minister darius because you can't say that this woman had a spirit of infirmity for 18 years it wouldn't fit right if you said she had the holy spirit for 18 years and so context is important does it make sense all right so all right so so so tell somebody it was in her mind right okay so it can also be translated as rational spirit rational spirit defined as this by which a human being feels thinks cognitively or decides what are you saying pastor this woman really didn't have a physical weakness watch this but she allowed her mind to think she did long enough until it became real enough for her to decide to live with in other words what she'd been carrying for 18 years hear me was a decision that she allowed to stay beyond this expiration date [Applause] she allowed a decision to get stuck that's why i come to tell you here at a harvest that the devil is not out they were never they were strong enough to survive the warfare that come on the outside they wasn't mature enough to deal with the conflict on the inside and so if we're going to become a church that god has called us to be in greensboro and the many locations that will be birthed out of this mother headquarters god is making harvest city the headquarters the template of the ministries y'all give birth to i'm looking at some pastors of the next locations in this room [Music] i love harvest church i love harvest city but the only thing that rubs me wrong about harvest city is that it's more
