palace round announce the birth of a newly born royal baby boy fantastic news it is so wonderful we've waited for ages i've been bubbling all week i'm like that bottle of champagne it's like my heart is pounding now i'm so happy to be here i think this is nice to see particularly for harry's uh he goes down well in the uk doesn't he so it's nice to see him be a dad of his own it would take a couple more days before the worlds could have a look at the new royal after all the couple wanted some one-on-one time with their little one before sharing him with the world it's magic it's pretty amazing and i mean i have the two best guys in the world so i'm really happy one would think that that is normal however in royal circles that was not how it's done generations change expectations this amazing event you've got to think on your feet am i doing the right thing i mean we go back to the baby shower in the states yeah fine it's a big thing in america to have baby showers and nothing wrong with having a baby shower but it's how you tackle that if you go sort of glitzy well that's a bit in your face if you fly in private jet again again a bit in your face there are ways of doing these things and you've got to think carefully on how to do it tennis champion and megan bestie serena williams was on hand to host the event for her dear friend in new york city her friends just wanted to celebrate her serena and her best friend who's been her best friend since she was 17. we all have a best friend genevieve and her friend jessica mulroney those were the three women that put it all together and it was a very very small private affair and just a very special time for her and i can't even imagine what food and drink were there but apparently it was all of megan's favorites the venue was none other than the penthouse suite at the mark hotel and the guest list was a-list as well from amal clooney to gail king each had arrived with a lovely gift for the mummy to be i have a standard gift that i do for people that i really care about this baby will have enough books to last a lifetime you had the likes of serena williams priyanka chopra jonas was there it was so hollywood regardless of the criticism harry and megan live their life by their rules and that will apply to parenthood however signs pointing to these non-traditional choices were evident early on if there was a test on how to be the perfect modern royal couple harry and megan would pass with flying colors hailing from america megan brought a breath of fresh air into a family who are closely guarded i hate to use the word of breath of fresh air but she is somebody new biracial american nothing wrong with being american but the last time we had an american interloper into the royal family was way back in 1936 and we all know what happened then so she's been well received not just by the queen but by the rest of the family and it can only get better megan's been in the public eye she's an actress she's done quite a few different things and i think she's used to having people talking about her being pictured and i think this was probably a level up i don't think she ever would have expected quite how massive this was gonna be i think she's handled it really well she's never come out publicly and said nothing i know that harry did release a statement when they first started dating which basically confirmed they were dating saying that the press has been quite intrusive could they back off essentially and i think that just showed how modern harry's been with the whole thing he wanted to address it he addressed it and i think the press did back off i think behind closed doors megan's probably saying to harry holy moly this is big i think the fact that megan's an american has sort of made this all seem more real i think the royal family was so tight-knit in english culture and british culture that it just seemed surreal to anyone that didn't grow up here and i think the fact that meghan markle made her way in has made it all seem a little bit more possible to young girls and to people from different cultures and races and places at first people on both sides of the atlantic were incredibly supportive of the whirlwind romance and couple's announcement meghan markle wasn't raised in aristocratic circles like harry's previous girlfriend cressida bonus or his close group of friends such as longtime love chelsea davies i don't think that i would call it a whirlwind uh in terms of our relationship obviously there's been layers attached to how public it has become after we had a good five six months almost with just privacy which was amazing but no i think we were able to really have so much time just to connect and we never went longer than two weeks without seeing each other even though we were obviously doing a long-distance relationship so we made it work one of the biggest things and probably the one thing that really attracted prince harry to her is that she really is very altruistic she's very compassionate she wants to be philanthropic she wants to change the world and she also knows that she's in a position now because of the fame that she has and also her state status and standing in the royal family that she has the ability to really make a lot of change even though it was a lot to take on megan handled all the press and headlines with flying colors she's done pretty well she's she's a good communicator but she should be because she's an actor and she's a trained actor and trained actors are good at communicating uh and she seems to be well received by the british people so i think she's doing a pretty good job so far i don't think megan's handled the headlines at all i think she's just ignored them which probably is the best thing she could do it wasn't all smooth sailing as the lead-up to the wedding came with a bit of bad press from a few haters however she had a great deal of support from friends and the royal firm um we recently saw that anonymous friends of hers went to people magazine and wanted to kind of fight in her corner which may or may not have been her doing i think she must have had something to do with it we saw a lot of that happening back in the day when charles and diana were splitting was we would see the press go to their friends and get uh reenactments and uh you know from the mouth of my friend and um i don't know i mean i think megan right now is just sort of either completely over it and thinks there's nothing i can do or um she's like hoping that her friends will pull her out of this one i think that was a really good move because the fact of the matter is she was getting a lot of uh you know issue a lot of you know hate and i think also what's great about buckingham palace is that they included all these kind of laws against sort of trolling etc because it was becoming really really bad and something i don't think anybody had anticipated and actually hasn't really happened before and to have all this kind of negativity which was created through social media was something that had to be handled and i think the royal family did that very well and i think megan's handled it very well as well [Music] with all the chaos surrounding the wedding this fairy tale event went off without a hitch the bride looked radiant in a custom givenchy gown designed by claire keller followed by a bridal party that included prince george and princess charlotte the soon-to-be duchess met her future father-in-law prince charles as he escorted his son's true love to the altar true to her roots megan brought parts of her american upbringing to the royal wedding from hollywood a-listers to a down-home baptist preacher in those almighty hands of love to a tear-jerking choir prince harry and megan tied the knot in a heartwarming manner that didn't leave a dry eye in the house megan i give you this ring harry i give you this ring as a sign of our marriage as a sign of our marriage with my body i honor you with my body i honor you all that i am i give to you all that i am i give to you and all that i have i share with you i share with you i had expressed their love not only for each other but charities around the world and the work they will do together for all of us all we want to do is be able to carry out the right engagements carry out our work and try and encourage others and the younger generation to be able to see the world in the correct sense rather than um perhaps being just having a distorted view so you know the fact that i the fact that i fell in love with megan so incredibly quickly was a sort of confirmation to me that everything every all the stars were aligned everything was just perfect it was this beautiful woman just sort of literally tripped and fell into my life i fell into her life and the fact that she i i know the fact that she'll be really unbelievably good at the job part of it as well um is obviously a huge relief to me because she'll be able to deal with with everything else that comes with it but um no you know we're we're a fantastic team we know we are and and we we hope to you know over time try and have as much impact for the things that we care about as much as possible i am very excited about that yeah within their first few months as the duke and duchess of sussex they have literally taken the world by storm from the uk to down under they made a huge impression wherever they went not only did they respect the culture of these welcoming nations but they were one-on-one with the locals in each area hours after landing in sydney australia meghan markle and prince harry took the opportunity to make a tiny announcement um genuinely thank you for the for the incredibly warm welcome and the chance to meet so many aussies from all walks of life and we generally and we also generally couldn't think of a better place to announce uh the uh the upcoming baby beard a boy or a girl so thank you very very much immediately the press went wild and the world was enthusiastic to welcome the couple's firstborn into the hearts of millions assuming that this announcement uh was made today so that it didn't overshadow what happened on friday exactly so um obviously they knew and the royal household must have been aware that the announcement was coming i think timing at the beginning of the australian tour is appropriate because of course they want that to go off with a great aplomb megan and harry both really wanted to start a family and the news arrived only five months after their wedding i think as a mother she'll probably make a perfect mother she has someone in harry who loves children you know he loves his his cousins and his nieces and nephews so i think that's going to be a fantastic family unit i'm sure we'll see more kids as well quite soon practically right after the official announcement betting establishments all over the uk were packed with gamblers placing their hard-earned pounds on the baby's birth date hair color and especially his name a royal baby means big bucks for uk bookies something like 800 000 pounds was turned over on the last wilson cape baby we're slightly ahead at the moment uh but it all depends on the next few days of what happens whether we find out she's gone into labor before we hear about the baby and if we if we do that if we have 48 hours between the two i expect vast amount of turnover aside from shaking up betting houses across the uk this little boy will bring a great deal of first to the royal family as excited as most people are about this fact his mother megan who was also born into an interracial family had to deal with some negativity when she was engaged to harry of course it's disheartening you know it's um it's a shame that that is the climate in this world to focus that much on that or that would be discriminatory in that sense but i think you know at the end of the day i'm really just proud of who i am and where i come from and we have never put any focus on that we've just focused on who we are as a couple and so when you take all those extra layers away and all of that noise i think it makes it really easy to just enjoy being together and tune all the rest of that out another first for the baby is the location of his birth and his presentation to the public it was harry's own mother princess diana that started the tradition of photos on the steps of lindo wing in london hoping those photos would be enough to satisfy the public megan chose not to do a photo call immediately after the birth for the sake of privately celebrating with her family this decision was met with a great deal of criticism buckingham palace and the the sussex office are being very private about that and quite cagey probably means it's going to be a more private birth than let's say william and catherine's which was sort of uh obviously the birth was private but they were then paraded in front of the bank of journalists and photographers immediately after the birth later on that day i think it's more than likely that the first time we see the child and the parents post birth might be in a photograph that gets posted on their new instagram page i think in a lot of ways megan is very similar to diana i think she just wants to start a family with harry and raise her children and somehow hide behind the spotlight i don't think that she wants to be in the spotlight as much as everybody thinks i know she's an actress and that's how she made her career but at the end of the day right now i think she genuinely does love harry and she just wants a family and interestingly that's so much who diana was she loved those boys so much and she always said that she wanted them to have a normal life and i really think that that's something that megan would like to see for her kids and in her family with harry and i think she's finding it really difficult unfortunately for the expectant couple this was not the only rumor they had to face it seems that with every new day came a new headline once harry and megan decided to move out of kensington palace and into their own home frogmore cottage on the windsor estate to raise their family away from the cambridges the press immediately began to speculate that there was a royal rift between the princes megan and harry they want to do their own thing and i think that that's wonderful no one wants to live in the shadows of their older sibling i mean they're just different i think harry wants to he wants his wife to be happy he wants to do things differently for his family they have the opportunity to do so and i think it's a great choice for him and her and i think it would be good well they're younger they're younger they've lived different lives i mean william is more reserved and then you have harry who's just more free-spirited and megan and catherine couldn't have couldn't be further in their personalities i mean i think that they complement one another i think they get along great but megan works she works hard there's got to be truth i think where there's smoke there's fire and i definitely think that something's going on to suggest any sibling rivalry no um there isn't they both got their own separate careers william very much a king in waiting so his learning curve is very much different to that of harris harris can take a much more relaxed role although harry relaxing in his role is is not an option at times it was thought that the rivalry was between the women and the prince's lives with megan playing the role of instigator there's always a lot of discussion on whether or not kate likes megan and how they're doing things because they're not next in line um and again it's just i feel like it's a lot of rumors just looking for any and every reason to not like the girl the british press are very very they're like vultures you know they circle around people and then they decide to actually go for them and i think that's a very strong thing here that's happening to her i think also you know we want stories so any kind of rumor that comes from hollywood or comes from the uk or a source will always be used and made into something much much bigger than it is just to create a story the media in the uk has been full pages of alleged rivalry there isn't any rivalry because these are two completely different women the duchess of cambridge catherine is a middle-class english woman she hasn't really had a proper job she's worked for her parents who run a very successful party organization and they've been incredibly successful she's had a university education she knew william for eight years before they got married and she is poles apart and very different from from megan megan is an american lady she's worked her way up as an actor she's an extremely accomplished actor she's an extremely accomplished communicator she has taken a lot of interest in humanitarian issues as the duchess of cambridge but to suggest that they they're competing they're not competing they have their own brief of organizations that they are pursuing i've seen it when the press can turn on you for sort of ridiculous reasons and for for almost nothing and it seemed to me that it was a uh it seemed to be a little unjust uh since she hadn't done anything except just happened to live her life there's a lot of really good press and it's really important and then there's groups that uh that take advantage and groups that are now it's click bait and they're looking for uh ways to get attention i don't think there's a day that goes by that doesn't have a mall and i divorced or fighting or i think our twins are robbing banks at this point so you know most of it you can just shrug off and not pay attention to but sometimes it's unkind she's she's not a complainer she's uh you know she she takes everything in stride listen you know she was an actress uh long before this and she's been in the public spotlight for a long time and she she's a she's a grown up and knows how to handle it her biggest supporter by far is her hubby prince harry the fact that i the fact that i fell in love with megan so incredibly quickly was a sort of confirmation to me that everything every all the stars were aligned everything was just perfect it was this beautiful woman just sort of literally tripped and fell into my life i fell into her life there is no doubt that megan has been a positive influence in harry's life once the party prince of the royal family his better half has cleaned house and made way for a more meaningful way of life i'm gonna address the elephant in the room we all know that harry was a wild child we loved seeing him in the tabloids we loved seeing what he was gonna do next so now since harry's together with megan you see this child blossoming i mean this man you don't see him in the news anymore like we did in his escapades he's doing these charities traveling across the world with megan and they're happy as can be i think that he is really making his mother proud who knows what what the what the uh what the situation would be what the world would be like if she was still around so no there's there's all sorts of thoughts and i and and emotions that come running through especially the fact that i was here last in 1993 running around with you know donald duck and all those characters with her and now i'm back here you know 31 years old and uh and you know try and try my best to make her proud diane i probably would have had afternoon tea with they would have gone shopping together and she probably loves the fact that megan's kind of i know we can't call her normal but she's not from this background that you'd necessarily think that a royal would marry i think that she's this wonderful modern lady diana would have loved megan it's just unfortunate the tragic circumstances of august 1997 saw the tragic death of diana princess of wales but william and harry she always referred to certainly to everybody she spoke to and so many times to me my boys charles adores megan we saw at harry and megan's wedding how he took over the fatherly role and walked megan the the last part of the aisle but harry seems to have met his match uh and and megan i think has met her match as well diana looking from above looking down on her boys would very much approve it's obvious that this couple were not only made for each other but determined to do things their way i think megan's future the royal is so exciting and it's very different megan and harry have always been so modern with it and i love the way that when megan's meeting people in the street at these royal events she hugs them she takes selfies she signs autographs and we've never really seen a royal do that before um her bodyguards are probably thinking oh crikey you know they're worrying about her but i think she's just making it as normal as she can she's fallen in love with this guy he happens to be a prince and she really is living the modern fairy tale but she's doing it so gracefully and i think that she's going to be as normal as she can especially when she brings up her kids as well megan's influence on prince harry was not just about having the former bachelor stay home on weekday nights but extended to his overall health as well megan is a die-hard believer of organic foods and materials in her life you won't see processed foods in the pantries of frogmore cottage rather bunches of fresh vegetables steal oats for breakfast and the occasional organic chicken or fish oh and don't forget avocados this new family loves their avocados so much so they forego the traditional setting of biscuits and cucumber watercress sandwiches at english tea time and partake in a favorite from california avocado toast it's safe to say that their baby will also be raised in this fashion forget processed baby foods hello fresh steamed organic carrots and peas straight from the palace kitchen this royal baby will be super healthy from the inside out and this new mother loves to cook not only evidenced by her former blog the tig but through some of her charitable endeavors a vegan lifestyle is not only practiced in the cottage kitchen megan insisted that special vegan paint be used in the nursery this royal baby will be super healthy from the inside out it's obvious that this couple were not only made for each other but determined to do things their way their move to frogmore cottage from the royal compound at kensington palace was a bold move on harry and megan's part a gift from the queen the cottage had a 3 million pound renovation the property was fairly run down and in desperate need for some tlc from new staircases and fireplaces the cottage has taken more of a modern spin with security like fort knox however environmentally conscious megan insisted on having a 50 000 pound energy unit installed conserving water and heat there has also been some talk about how megan and harry plan to hire a nanny that is outside of royal tradition at first megan will heavily rely on her mother doria for help and advice for a newborn not only does harry adore his mother-in-law calling her mom megan has learned a great deal from this wise lady especially when it comes to yoga and using it as a relaxation and exercise tool during pregnancy and after the birth so when you do yoga you really work on your breathing and adequate breathing promotes relaxation it decreases stress levels and we don't really know how to breathe uh most of us in our daily lives we're so busy thinking about what to do that what we think about the most is breathing the way it should be done which is very deeply in and very deeply out though the couple may even hire a manny that is a male nanny harry and megan want to be as hands-on as possible with their new baby regardless of the criticism that megan has faced during her pregnancy she has done it in great style what megan wears makes headlines around the world and whatever she wore as an expectant mummy to be was met with loads of praise you know megan has that very quintessential sort of sporty relaxed american style it's not too fussy accessories are really really simple she doesn't wear an excess of jewellery if she does wear jewelry it's sort of like a really fine delicate gold necklace or say gold diamond studs or a gold bracelet the lines of the garments are very clean and simple and she goes for quite classic muted colors so you're looking at sort of creams and beiges or muted greens or navy you don't really see her in print um she's more like into her block colors i'll be very transparent i think meghan markle is absolutely stunning gorgeous for lack of a better term hot whether you're a fan of megan's fashion choices or not is irrelevant it goes without saying that the duchess has class and if you get the approval of the world's most respected stylists you know you're doing something right i wouldn't say that she's necessarily broken the rules i think she's sort of like skirting along the edge so she's sort of playing with the rules a little bit which i think is fair enough because i think given the times that we're in you know she's not queen victoria i don't think that she should have to wear sort of like floor length gowns and not show any skin at all she's a beautiful girl and i think there's a risk that if she goes to demure that she could start to look a lot older than she really is and it would look forced it wouldn't look natural you know i think one of the the key sort of notes for for personal style is to be authentic and i think she's remaining authentic by holding on to some elements that feel like her so be that a little bit of leg or you know with going the the hosiery on occasion if she feels like it um but she does have a perfect figure and if you look at her figure it hasn't even changed it looks like she's got a basketball under her dress like she just looks perfect as always i think that if you were gonna emulate her style you would just look for structure chic elegant and then add a little bit of your own flair in there as well i think that's how you can nail it and she loves a hat loves a hat so if you've got any hats pull out your favorite hats as well and that's a bit more meganesque while many pregnant women can spend a small fortune on maternity wear megan opted for a mix of high street brands and comfortable outfits during most of her pregnancy the maternity dress from h m well first of all we should say she was wearing an armani coat it was a beautiful beige armani coat in a double cashmere textile really really beautiful very simple cut real classic piece and underneath she had the famous cream h m maternity dress which is actually from their new mama line which is their maternity line so maternity dresses in that line would range from say 12 pounds for a jersey dress to 35 for the fine net and they've also got options for women who are breastfeeding and there's also a conscious line which would be fabricated from eco textiles of course there was the occasional jaw-dropping evening gown from givenchy we have a very special guest to announce the winner her royal highness the duchess of sussex i really liked that dress i was surprised that it was so incredibly fitted she's a big fan of the house of javanchi and so that dress was absolutely gorgeous and i think that she'll continue to be a fan of that brand because they really do dress her perfectly they do a really good job with her one day her little boy will know how his mommy killed it on stage and how he was her favorite accessory this woman is so amazing and a simple decision on what shoes to wear with what dress seems trivial to us for megan she gets critiqued by the world's press and fashion journalist who simply can't get enough of her and pregnancy didn't stop this mama from wearing some incredibly fashionable footwear so it's not very difficult to replicate actually just go for a very simple cut go for a beautiful classic shade and you're good to go and she loves her heels as well so get some sky-high heels for a little bit of glamour megan's fashion sense has also rubbed off on her new hubby many have commented on how stylish harry looks nowadays and it's all thanks to his fashion forward wife i like to call that the second hand smoke effect okay so if my wife is going to look this good i kind of need to play it up you know i need to get it together and i think megan's the right woman to kind of expect that um ascending you know style approach to match hers i think when they're working together and they're and they are walking together at public appearances they look like they've thought about who's wearing what so they're not going to be in clashing colors they're going to be in complementary colors which actually work really well as a pair i think when you first say anyone you can definitely think well you know i don't really like his shoes or his belt but i can kind of influence him and that is exactly what megan has done i think he started wearing a bit of jewelry on his hands he's wearing a little um bracelet and a ring on his not his wedding finger the other hand and um i think you can just see he's got a bit smarter he's wearing blazers he's wearing really nice trousers and before i don't think harry would have given much thought to what he wore but now yeah you can see that definitely megan slipped in there slightly with her influence though heavily criticized for all her changes to the royal life not only while living at kensington palace but now at their home on the windsor estate megan's first priority was to build a happy family life for her husband and baby staying close to her organic roots and shying away from tradition megan desired a home birth at frogmore cottage rather than the lindo wing at st mary's hospital in london this also means that the usual gang of royal doctors would not be present at the birth megan insisted on having her own medical team who were in tune with her personal choices regarding the delivery of her first child the question of having a home birth is an interesting one it's home birth has become uh very popular as of as of late and uh more and more people are are promoting doing doing home births and births and birthing centers and centers away from from an obstetric hospital this was a risky measure as women who get pregnant later in life run the risk of several complications during the delivery process the reason why i personally and and and most of us don't advocate home birth it's not because most pregnancies you don't need us most pregnancies you don't need to be in a in a hospital most women have been giving birth outside hospital for a millennia however there are complications that can happen suddenly in a pregnancy uh hemorrhage and things that can happen that you need to be in an institution where you can get attention right away and that can happen unexpectedly so when you do a home birth you're not in a center that can take care of a complication that can happen all of a sudden where the mother and the baby's life can be at risk in a matter of of minutes even with a medical team on call with the baby already past its due date concern for the unborn royal and his mummy was high however surrounded by loved ones including her mother doria megan felt warm and comfy at her cottage in the windsor estate not to mention the locals in the nearby village were loving the reason to celebrate i think it's full of happiness they're very proud parents and we're very lucky to have them in our country absolutely adorable he's like a little doll isn't he i mean catherine had babies in the eight pound on he's only seven pound heart so he's quite tiny but what a little sweetheart and what pro parents he's got harry hasn't come back down to earth i don't think yet he's absolutely besotted isn't he totally overjoyed and quite emotional being a windsor resident it feels like it's a member of your family has just had a newborn baby so yeah but what a beautiful baby even the queen and the baby's new auntie and uncle better known as the duke and duchess of cambridge dropped by for a visit at the cottage everyone was anxious to meet the little bundle of joy under the cover of darkness in the early hours of may 6 2019 cars whisked megan and harry to portland hospital because the time had come to welcome a new royal to the firm and it's a boy prince harry and the duchess of sussex have a boy the first windsor with an american mother we're live with that royal baby news for our viewers in the west it is a baby boy for prince harry and duchess megan that's right the royal baby wait is over prince harry says his wife megan has given birth to a baby boy by late that afternoon a very proud papa would emerge almost giddy about his son's new arrival into this world it's been the most amazing experience i could ever possibly imagine how any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension but we're both absolutely thrilled and so grateful to all the love and support for everybody out there from everybody out there it's been it's been amazing so we just wanted to share this with everybody the new dad also gave a great amount of praise to his lovely bride this is definitely my first birth it was amazing absolutely incredible and as i said i'm so incredibly proud of my wife word spread quickly throughout the uk with many who are excited about the news to see the diversity in in the royal family super duper excited about that we're huge supporters of the royals so that was exciting to see the news can't wait to see pictures everyone's really invested in this is like the the world baby and australia's baby too we sort of take a little bit of ownership of the baby because that was announced in australia so a lot of excitement while the uk news media spread news of the birth through harry his father prince charles couldn't wait to share the news in germany while still on tour as this vehicle i'm the baby's uncle and aunt were also overjoyed about the new addition to the family i look forward to meeting him and finding out where his name's going to be it's really exciting william was quick to point out that his brother had joined a new club of sorts i'm very pleased and glad to welcome my brother to the sleep deprivation society it would take a couple of days for archie harrison mountbatten windsor to be presented to the world alongside his mother who looked radiant after giving birth to the bundle of joy he has the sweetest temperament he's really calm and um you know and he's been he's just been the dream so it's been a special couple days parenting is amazing it's only been what two and a half days three days yeah but we're just we're just so thrilled to have our own little bundle of joy and be able to spend some precious time with him as he slowly slowly starts to grow up before long baby archie would meet the figurehead of his royal family her majesty the queen or better known as granny to his dad somebody just bumped into the jeep as we were walking by which was so nice so it'll be a nice moment to introduce the baby to the family and my mom's with us as well there was a great deal of discussion as to whether archie would have a royal title but for now his parents have decided that their little one should have a normal upbringing the child is going to be seventh in line to the throne now from position seven downwards it does mean that when later on in life the child does not need to seek the sovereign's permission uh to get married so in many ways it's sort of given an easier life than if it were in the top six once prince charles takes the throne he will immediately receive a title but for now he's known to his parents as a little bundle of joy it's the first mixed race child that has been born into the royal family and that's a wonderfully positive thing because i think it makes the royal family more accessible uh more relevant and more contemporary than they perhaps have been before and there are going to be chunks of society who have previously looked to the royal family and thought yeah well they're nice but they don't really mean anything to me whereas now they are starting to look like a modern family and as every father and parent would ever say you know your your baby is absolutely amazing but this little thing is is is absolutely to die for so i'm just over the moon as the royal couple made their exit and headed into the first days of being a family together the future was bright he will be a very good parent he's dying to be a parent he was a good uncle and he's still a good uncle to george charlotte and louis the cambridge's children but he would be an exceptional parent as will megan it is still very much a fairy tale but so much more achievable and the fact that she was totally a girl next door megan has found herself living behind the palace walls so it's pretty surreal and i think it's a real exciting time for girls to you know look at that and grow up that way one thing is for certain with the addition of megan and now baby archie the future of this new royal family is off to an exciting start once upon a time there was a starlet who met a prince she's a very uh accomplished celebrity on a number of fronts megan before way before she met harry i think there's a rather lazy narrative that she's you know just another sort of hollywood wannabe who married into the royal family she basically has given her life of freedom in america up to conform to what the royals do in britain their royal wedding was one for the history books but a year and a half later a right royal bust up with the palace and the fairy tale couple decide they want to be royals of a different kind the duke and duchess of sussex have announced they don't want to be senior royals anymore and after a meeting with her son and grandsons today the queen said in a statement she respects their decision the bbc report indicates that no other member of the royal family even knew it was being put out they blame the press i definitely think that the media hasn't learned from their past mistakes when it comes to putting these you know the royal women under a microscope and chasing them around and plastering their face all over the tabloids others blame windsor family feuds and i think as harry said himself when you're working with family there are going to be dumb disagreements while the british media blames duchess megan doctor what have they shown what have they shown of course you know it's absolutely fine that they want to go their own way but the way they have done it is extremely weird but now what does megan want to be a superstar royal a great actress or a future president or all three can the girl who wants everything have it all i just think she's a slight social climber i'm afraid you know i always believe in the phrase if someone shows you who they are then believe them and the reason i keep repeating my experience with meghan markle is i genuinely found it quite shocking and what about harry will harry be happy with his life in exile torn from country and family but with the new found freedom to make his own choices he did what he needed to do for his family and that's all i will say about that and i don't think anybody else has anything any right to say anything this is a career move neither of them planned let's look at how this happily ever after turned into mexic and changed royal history forever [Music] when prince harry introduced meghan markle to the world it seemed like a breath of fresh air new blood and new ideas to shake up the dusty old british royal family i'm going to address the elephant in the room we all know that harry was a wild child we loved seeing him in the tabloids we loved seeing what he was going to do next so now since harry's together with megan you see this child blossoming i mean this man you don't see him in the news anymore like we did in his escapades he's doing these charities traveling across the world with megan and they're happy as can be i think that he is really making his mother proud yeah i think when megan first came on the scene we were excited we were curious and we wanted to know more i think we all just thought it was rumor because you know there's this young royal dating an actress we haven't seen anything like this before so i think we all thought number one it was a rumor but number two pretty excited if it was true because it's like nothing that's ever happened to the royal family before we were able to really have so much time just to connect and we never went longer than two weeks without seeing each other even though we were obviously doing a long-distance relationship so it's um we made it work so i think when we first saw her and it was so mysterious their romance wasn't it it just came out of nowhere all of a sudden they were sneaking off to africa and we were seeing them in toronto and then they were engaged and i think everyone was just on the edge of their seat she was far from what used to be considered royal princess material an ambitious actress and aspiring hollywood star who made her own living and knew her own mind obviously she's the most watched and visual person in the world you know she was she's a beautiful young woman obviously a hollywood starlet at the time so she's somebody who wants to get attention who'd always make sort of the dress list she's a mature woman she's been round the trap she's an accomplished actor she's been working on humanitarian projects prior to getting married which is exactly why we loved her in the first place was that she was so against the grain and so different to the norm the world fell in love with the fairy tale couple and together with william and kate they formed the younger generation royal fab four well part of that fab four thing is always a creation of the tabloid press in particular because the royal family is the ongoing soap opera of britain pop stars may come and go movie stars may come and go but the royals are there they're permanent celebrities and yet they have a responsibility the royal family the queen has a monarchical and a constitutional responsibility america gets its very own royal and harry finds the love of his life harry seems to have met his match uh and and megan i think has met her match as well so they're all pretty good and diana looking from above looking down on her boys would very much approve you know this guy's in love he's he's uh he's not interested in where she reigns from where she comes from the color of her skin this is this is the most important thing in my view that's happened to the royal family for for centuries this couple was to take us into this new century as the new face of the royals the commonwealth the multicultural commonwealth was to be an area that harry and megan were to be responsible for in their royal duties megan i give you this ring harry i give you this ring as a sign of our marriage as a sign of our marriage with my body i honor you with my body i honor you all that i am i give to you all that i am i give to you and all that i have i share with you i share with you i share with you after the wedding it seemed like the royals were just one big happy family megan got along famously with the queen and the fab four were making their mark everyone thought that the windsors had finally found their groove after years of trials and tribulations i think the fact that megan's an american and married into the royal family um has opened everyone else's eyes to the possibility it is still very much a fairy tale but so much more achievable and the fact that she was totally a girl next door you know her mom's a yoga instructor her dad was a lighting guy on married with children and megan has found herself living behind the palace walls so it's pretty surreal and i think it's a real exciting time for girls to you know look at that and grow up that way but beneath the surface there were tensions these started to become public with tiny observations made by the press rumors that kate and megan were not the chummiest of sisters in law in fact it was claimed megan had made kate cry just before the wedding the girls definitely are annoyed with the situation um i think kate was so used to being in the spotlight and then now all of a sudden she's having to hand that over to megan um kate's now got three children and megan's just starting her journey into motherhood which is so exciting so i do think there's some jealousy there in november there was an us weekly magazine and it said megan and kate's feud ruins christmas but the magazine came out in november it wasn't even christmas yet uh it was completely ridiculous uh but i mean again make sure i i took a picture of it i thought it was hilarious that's the stuff that i enjoy though just catty nonsense but it's not even based on reality so i don't actually don't feel too bad laughing at it because it's all made up comparisons began to be drawn between the two beginning with their clothes kate versus megan who has more style i i think that's a really unfair um sort of question because there's a big thing i think about uh not sort of pitting women against each other and because these two women have both recently joined the royal family they're inevitably put in this position where they draw comparisons and the same thing happens to their predecessors the you know duchess of york and princess diana they were great friends but people pitted them against each other in terms of what they wore what their physiques were like you know fergie was always a little bit curvier than diana so she you know favored uh you know she wasn't compared favorably uh so it's difficult you know it'd be very easy to sort of weigh in and say i think this one's better or that one's better but they're two very different girls they're totally different people um not only do they look different but they also um dress different they speak differently they come from different backgrounds um so that's never going to be a comparison that's going to make sense for anybody clothes send out messages the british royals are conscious the designer dressing can cause jealousy and put distance between them and ordinary brits but megan is used to hollywood where you dress to impress i i wouldn't say that she's necessarily broken the rules i think she's sort of like skirting along the edge so she's sort of playing with the rules a little bit uh so i'd say now her transformation has become more demure which is what happens when people marry into the royal family if they're a woman because you have to adhere to royal protocol when i think of meghan markle's style i think of her on suits uh if you actually take a side by side and put an outfit of megan on suits next to her royal look it's almost as chic and the same her style is simplistic it's simple but it's chic with that a little little bit of sexy uh you know casual if you will but i i love her commitment to her as just an effortless woman um we might see a little bit of an edge walking the streets of la during the day but i don't i don't think it's going anywhere that i feel like that brand that's her brand and it's going to carry over here her style well i think her actual personal style apart from her role as a princess uh would be a little bit sexy quite casual actually because she loves a bit of denim uh you know she she loves sort of quite sporty looks that are very streamlined and simple it's not fussy she's not the sort of girl that is into ruffles and floral prints or polka dots or sequins i don't think you're going to see her in in those sorts of looks you know it's always quite paired down and chic sort of you know mixture between la and and new york megan was glamorous megan was beautiful megan was elegant in an expensive kind of way great for grabbing headlines and magazine covers but publicity can cause jealousy and it doesn't always go the way you want it some believed that megan stole the spotlight when she announced her pregnancy on the day of princess eugenie's wedding harry and megan are expecting a child extraordinary news megan's baby shower also made the headlines but for all the wrong reasons not long ago megan had been a little-known actress on just another tv series now to many in britain it looked like she was using her royal status to mix with legions of falling new a-list friends who might once have ignored her megan decided to jet off to new york for her baby shower i feel like no other royal would have done that she hopped on a private jet heavily pregnant went over to new york and of course all these superstars attended this amazing event you had the likes of serena williams priyanka chopra jonas was there it was so hollywood and i can't even imagine what food and drink were there but apparently it was all of megan's favorites don't have another baby shower in the united states have it privately and if you must fly fly commercial the royal couple came under further criticism when they refused to pose with a new royal baby immediately after the birth for generations royal babies were presented straight away even princess diana introduced both william and harry in this manner monarchy is dynastic and public but it seemed megan needed her personal space for us i think we'll be seeing you guys in probably two days time as planned as a family to be able to share it with you guys and so one can see the baby this wasn't what the press or public expected from the royals in fact they thought it was a royal snub i think that that we live in a world that's too much show and tell too much instant gratification and i commend megan and harry for trying to keep this private i think ultimately megan should do whatever she wants to do supporters of megan were reported complaining of the dysfunctional royal family but there were problems too with megan's own family many of whom pointed to megan as a source of conflict questioning her motives and behavior prince harry and megan have quite a bit of apologizing to do this you know we're not talking about teenagers we're talking about adults who i believe knew exactly what they were doing and and with regards to my father it was so incredibly wrong and unfair and um shocking really i will let him address that at a future date but you know i and it's sad that he has not had the opportunity to meet archie but i think it's also sad for archie even though he's really small now as he gets to be a little bit older um my dad is a great dad and so it's it's a loss to archie not to have that opportunity while my dad is alive megan's very public charity appearances advertised her kindness but many were less than impressed by her treatment of her own father which seemed less than charitable i just think she's a slight social climber i'm afraid and when i see the way look at her wedding there was only one member of her family there the rest couldn't be risked it was like considered too dangerous thomas markle for whatever reason was not welcome to the wedding supporters of megan blamed the father rather than the royal daughter until thomas could stand it no more and spoke out i can't be i can't be like a monk in a monastery i can't never speak again i mean i'm going to have to defend myself with people if people were saying things about me that aren't right or wrong i'm going to have to defend myself as simple as that i can't totally quiet be quiet the entire last year uh should have been one of the greatest moments in my life um it's something people dream about and it turned into a nightmare for me i've been attacked by everyone i've been accused of terrible things and my daughter isn't speaking to me and i don't know why it can come to an end when my daughter comes picks up a phone and calls me or sends me a text and lets me know everything's okay i've done nothing wrong so i expect some kind of answer i've said this before it's not the first time and i'm gonna have to keep on talking now until i do get an answer silence has gotten me nowhere i have to keep talking reports claim megan was devastated and harry went into protective mode to me it looks like megan's father is a total opportunist he's out there cashing in on everything he now has a documentary coming out they showed pictures of his house he's got all the memorabilia with his daughter's wedding pictures on it it's too much he is uh he really looks ridiculous in all of this the selling of the pictures he really looks like an opportunist in my opinion and he even published a letter that she wrote to him basically trying to level with him and be like look like there's a lot of lies like let's stop this let's carry on with our lives in a peaceful way and he went and i'm sure made plenty of money publishing it and i don't blame her if she never bothers with him again but i mean the hard thing is obviously having a family who are pretty dysfunctional in many ways who are selling their daughter out or their sister out has probably been really effective you know affected her in a massive way i think one of the things she did do was obviously she got her friends to talk about her and us weekly where she basically insinuated that you know she had spoken to her father that she was not the person that people had made her out to be i think that was a really good move because the fact of the matter is she was getting a lot of uh you know issue a lot of you know hate well i feel like it's tough for megan um she has moved into this new type of lifestyle coming from america and having the background of having been in a previous marriage having separated parents and living a life as a biracial child of a biracial relationship i think it comes with a lot of challenges i feel as if harry coming from an outside perspective i feel like harry's really the one in her court for a while the new family took some time off to bond with their son but soon after they were off on a south african tour also making the trip with the royal couple was baby archie [Music] [Applause] at first it seemed the tour was a success but during a revealing british documentary both harry and megan hit the world with a couple of bombshells both harry and megan voiced their concern and displeasure not only with royal life but how treatment from the royal press was affecting them on a personal level it's um hard you know i don't think anybody could understand that but i in all fairness i i had no idea which probably sounds difficult to understand here but when i um when i first met my now husband my friends were really happy because i was so happy but my british friend said to me i'm sure he's great but you shouldn't do it because the british tabloids will destroy your life and i very naively i'm american we don't have that there what are you talking about that doesn't make any sense i'm not in tabloids i didn't get it so it's um yeah it's been complicated you get the impression that it's all about glossy magazines and cameras shouting oh you know this way please and but it's actually a lot of hard graft and and carrying out a lot of engagements that are not necessarily seen by the public a lot of the interaction with the public and sometimes you're king george the next day you're george king the fact is you know it's not your the media will love you one minute and within uh a very short time could be very crawl and crucify you than x i applaud megan for being honest in that interview because that goes against everything you're not supposed to have an opinion you can't talk about politics you have your nail color has to be a certain hue i mean it's ridiculous so i give her a lot of credit for being honest on camera and just being like yeah that's challenge she's a human at the end of the day and not only that but that really gets the sympathy from people when you see someone being vulnerable like that fans of megan praised her for showing a vulnerable side but the british press didn't take it well journalists it seemed were meant to report good news only and know their place well there's the press and there's the press the tabloid press in britain the paparazzi are really all over the royal family all the time in fact if anything has changed since princess diana it's been that there are more outlets and now there's social media but the british media is a different kettle of fish we have 10 national newspapers every single day of the week on the breakfast table at seven o'clock in the morning and they're all hungry for news and if it's raw news and if it's salacious and if it's gossipy they'll publish it so you've got to watch what you're doing you've got to think you've got to think on your feet am i doing the right thing an even bigger reveal came when harry publicly admitted that his relationship with his big brother was under strain for some time now many had wondered if there was a growing rift between the royal brothers after william asked harry to take it slow with megan and not rush into marriage the rumors were confirmed after harry's comments on the south african trip um part of the part of this role and part of this job and this family being under the pressure that it's under inevitably you know stuff um stuff happens but look we're we're brothers we're we'll always be brothers and we're certainly on different paths at the moment but i will always be there for him and as i know he'll always be there for me um you know we don't see each other as much as we as much as we used to because we're so busy um but you know i love him dearly and you know the majority of this stuff is probably well the majority of stuff is created out of nothing um but you know it's just i said as brothers you know you have good days you have bad days after the south african tour the duke and duchess chose to retreat to north america to spend thanksgiving with megan's mom and christmas at a multi-million dollar mansion in canada snubbing the queen and other royals the palace played down any talk of a rift a normal service seemed to have resumed when harry and megan returned to the uk for a visit in early 2020 but it was not to last it is a family crisis but one that involves queen elizabeth and her heirs to the throne how to deal with a grandson and his wife who want to step back from royal duties queen elizabeth has called a meeting today it's about start now at an estate in sandringham for many of the key players to try and thrash out the way ahead for prince harry and megan no one quite knew what a partial retreat from royal life might involve and the news is reported to have deeply affected the queen this was a pretty astonishing break if it were on an earthquake seismic scale i would put it at about an eight i think the royal family was so tight-knit in english culture and british culture that it just seemed surreal the first thing that came to my mind was megan is going to be destroyed in the press for this here we go this is going to be the next big thing i thought about prince harry and his life and he's a millennial and i was thinking like people of our age group we really kind of reject the old way of doing things this couple has been breaking the norm since day one we have an la native she is biracial she's been previously married so for them to make this announcement for me as a millennial it's no shock no surprise because i consider them almost the royals of our decade 2020 we're in a new decade to begin with and that's why i feel like a lot of the younger uh audience gravitates to them uh yeah you know i have a lot of sympathy for the queen i mean she is the queen um and it is a lot of responsibility to sort of keep the family moving along as she keeps the country moving along and all that good stuff i think there was one statement from the queen um on the 13th and she said that she supported um the independent lifestyle choice that harry wanted for him and his family and that's and that he they will still be important to their royal family this seemed an uncanny echo of a royal bust-up that led to the current queen taking the throne i expect this had a sense of deja vu all over again for the queen who was a child when her uncle abdicated the throne but it's important to remember that what she saw growing up was tension and estrangement between two royal brothers edward viii the former king and her father the present king who were close friends for all of their young manhood and all of a sudden their duties were separated they were physically separated it was a great source of strain and tension in the family and i'm sure that was in her mind when she was trying to negotiate harry's exit from the royals her uncle's abdication was a blow to the crown and left a scar on her majesty harry's stated desire to retreat from royal duties seemed to bring it all back now in 1936 king edward viii the uncle of the current queen used an american woman named wallace simpson as his get out of jail free get out of royal jail free card he abdicated the throne to marry her to become her third husband now with this you have a very close attachment a close family and i don't think they wanted to leave altogether their advantages to staying connected to the royal family but they also i think wanted to separate themselves from the duties that drew the paparazzi and drew the attention and there i think that may not be possible in britain megan came in for a great deal of criticism for not understanding the role of the royal family and british life and getting between harry and his family i think that meghan markle has broke the family up i think um definitely with megan with her being divorced and also her being mixed race as well that's probably not gone down very well across the pond the reaction was quite different we're excited to have them it's about to be they're about to be the it couple in la so you know i can speak for an american at least a mixed american and one that cares very much about diversity and inclusion i love first of all megan and harry coming back to the states you know we haven't had real royalty here since kennedy outside britain the british royals are more of a soap opera everyone wondered what would become of the royal brothers once close it seemed that the rift had grown wider would they be reconciled or were these two royal houses at war yeah i think um harry's bond with william i think remains intact it was never perfectly smooth i mean they've had their you know questionable moments they've had their discomfort like any family and any siblings do um that being said um you know and a lot of that had to do with megan let's be honest right i mean he sort of gave sort of you know harry a heads up at the very beginning and said hey i think you should take more time i think you should slow play this engagement slow play this marriage in this wedding and harry didn't want to do that for obvious reasons he was very much in love and he felt like he want to go full steam ahead i don't know whether there's a rift so much as different choices that they have made william knew his wife kate for years six or eight years i think and they had an opportunity to become familiar from his experience the thing to do is not to rush into anything harry may have been too impetuous from his point of view of doing this but it's always hard to be the second brother in a royal family the heir william knows exactly what his life is going to be he knows what his job is going to be for harry it was different he had the army for a couple of years he was in afghanistan but then what does he do with his life if it is to become a royal ambassador as second sons may often do that may not be the role that he wanted and certainly his wife may have felt that's not the role that suits our talents best after private talks with palace courtiers the decision was finalized harry and megan would move to north america and agree not to use their hrh titles for any sort of financial gain part of the reason that the royal family is on a kind of payroll is because if they were to try to work any job they did people might be trying to use that job only to get to the royal family and so any work that they do there's always the suspicion that that's why they got that job that that's what's going on and so by separating themselves from that source of income they cut themselves off from that clean hands aspect of the monarchy and the royal family now they have to pick and choose very carefully they say they want to serve the queen even in their new lives but if they get set up if they look like they're commercializing their name and their brand and the royal brand it's going to blow back not well on them but are harry and megan really going to get normal jobs and start earning a living like the rest of us or will they cash in on the cachet of being royals that seemed to be what was happening when harry was filmed with the ceo of disney apparently using his royal influence to get megan works [Music] in britain the royals have a constitutional role and are paid out of taxation in america they're a brand and brands have commercial value there's a lot they can do and i don't see it stopping because there's a lot of people that can make money off of them and that brand so they'll just roll through that for as long as they can i mean we've had gwyneth paltrow's creator from goop say that she's goopy which puts her in the same light as jessica alba and of course gwyneth paltrow i mean people want to know what exactly megan's wearing what color is that shade on her lip what brand of that butt white button down is she wearing which is the easiest thing to go get it like an old navy but on her it looks so chic and uh financial independence is already in the works for them because they are moving to la as we heard for the summer and they're gonna become that it couple for megan being married to a british royal opens doors fame itself is a commodity but it needs managing to do it megan has hired a hollywood pr team but the brand that they have right now in this instagram meme culture where we're giving anybody money to do a podcast a digital series a short film a netflix series uh they'll never run out of work at least within like the next five years i mean their ability to make money off the social media is unparalleled in some ways i mean i think the number the average number of posts for most social media influencers is like 41. if they posted 41 times a year you know as estimated by clear they could make about 110 million dollars a year the brand can't just be about making money the royals are supposed to have a higher purpose and justification the couple say they will continue with their charity work and they want to use their influence to change the world for the better but here again they run into trouble royals are meant to be above politics getting political opens them up to the charge of hypocrisy they say they are shocked by poverty but they are among the very richest people on the planet they say the rest of us should travel less but they are constantly taking flights around the world for pleasure as well as for work they express concern about africa but for harry this too often is about wildlife preservation rather than increasing the income of ordinary africans the rest of our lives especially for you know our life's work um will be predominantly focused on africa on conservation and you know there are 19 commonwealth countries or something uh across this continent so there's a lot of um there's a lot of there's a lot of things to be done and there's a lot of problems here but there's also huge potential solutions harry's latest campaign is mental health it is clear to me that many of the problems and difficulties people face both in the military and in wider society all begin with mental health yet support for mental health has been an after fall after thought for far too long harry went through his own mental anguish as a child losing his mother an event which has clearly shaped him i mean obviously you know he was in his early teens when sadly his mother died in that tragic accident in paris but you know he he survived that he as a young lad walked behind his mother's coffin you know in front of the sort of world's media and he talks about it openly now he did suffer as a result of his mother's death it took him 20 years to actually come out and say he did but he's working tirelessly for that and he feels that by talking about it it's helping young people to overcome their mental health issues talking about it's not a cure but talking about it is a start to getting help and that's what is what he's all about britain is more emotional than people think i covered princess diana's death and funeral and so i know what it was like to stand there london was absolutely silent as the coffin was brought down the street and occasionally you would hear people sobbing and wailing diana diana so there was an emotion in the princess of wales that people responded to her warmth of character and personality many people wonder if harry sees something of his mother princess diana in his american bride diana and megan do seem to have much in common both idolized both fashion icons both enjoying the company and friendship of a-list celebrities both apparently relishing the publicity that comes with being a royal but both also feeling confined and constrained by it and wishing to escape i think with her being present she would have offered a way more relatable now perspective and i think for that reason diana would really relate to megan and i think it's a shame that she isn't around because i think she'd be someone great for megan to lean on and i think things would be a lot different if diana was here still harry appears to see a spiritual echo of diana in megan oh absolutely i think it has everything to do um with the decision that he made that she made that they made together um you know diana only had a tragic sort of end but she had a very tragic journey she was deeply unhappy for a large uh part of her life and uh she was clear about that and vocal about that that's one of the reasons that sort of harry is so dedicated to mental health and mental awareness that's why he's doing the apple tv thing with oprah so yeah absolutely played a huge role in his life and i think that harry takes after his mom like megan diana was a royal superstar but ended up causing havoc and division inside the royal family yeah so you know um harry and william have always been siblings and i think like most siblings they have you know shared number of upsets and discomfort in their relationship that being said they're great friends now remember in the very beginning when megan and harry were dating you know sort of william gave harry a heads up and said hey you need to slow play this engagement you need to slow play this wedding and this marriage because there are huge responsibilities at hand and you want to make sure that she's prepared for that and she's ready for that and that she's the right choice for you and of course you know harry was very much in love and so for obvious reasons he decided not to listen to that advice and so he moved full speed forward and full speed ahead um you know since that day they've had you know their difficulties they're associated with that they sort of just ramped up from that but i think that at the end of the day they're brothers they love each other they're going to find ways to work it out but there's always going to be bickering brothers don't carry on having the best time all the time and i'm sure there's going to be things they talk about which will be sort of off the record and they have a little bickering and little little chats but i think as a unit they're a fantastic unit and we as the british public have grown up with them we've seen them through grief we've seen them through their birth we've seen them through every sort of emotion and we've seen them blossom into really inspiring men who are hopefully going to be change makers for this country and beyond so i think that is a great thing and if they bicker that's fine because it's everybody needs to be taken down a peg or two the diana's story ended in tragedy megan seems determined for hers to be very different to maintain the profile of a royal means maintaining her position as a patron of numerous charities obviously very passionate about lots of different charities that just shows that probably any project she's going to be doing in this town it has to have a means to an end it can't just be that she's making her buck and providing for her family but there are rumors that megan harbors other ambitions too not just acting but possibly politics might she use her fame to run for president one day she has already shown herself an outspoken political advocate distinguished ladies and gentlemen i am tremendously honored to be u.n women's advocate for political participation and leadership i am proud to be a woman and a feminist she's very very clever she also wants to change the world you know one of the biggest things and probably the one thing that really attracted prince harry to her is that she really is very altruistic she's very compassionate she wants to be philanthropic she wants to change the world and she also knows that she's in a position now because of the fame that she has and also her state status that she has the ability to really make a lot of change she's been um working on humanitarian projects prior to getting married so she's she's well attuned to the sort of things that the royal family do in terms of charities uh and organizations that they're associated with whatever her future megan with the help of her hollywood pr team seems to be working on her image having received some criticism for dressing too lavishly she is trying to work fashion into her charity work she became royal patron for smartworks a charity aimed at helping women back to the workplace by providing them with high quality clothing for the office styling advice and interview training these women will now be equipped in a project that will just be a couple weeks but will give us enough units to be able to have the women at smart works have these key essentials for a year and that in and of itself to be able to have one small project that has such big impact is something that i'm really connected to she will continue her work with smart works from north america and even pull in partners at john lewis to lend a hand if this is going to be classics and essentials what are traditional and quintessential british brands that i've become introduced to once i moved here that for me resonated and i knew would resonate with a smartworks customer and that seemed obvious to do m s and john lewis which i've worn quite a bit in the past uh year or two since i've been here and they thankfully said yes as well as the couple begins a new life in north america so much is still uncertain how long will their royal celebrity last how will making big money tarnish their status will megan make the transition into full-blown politics and will harry began to feel a loss ripped from his country his family and the only life he has known as an official member of the royal household you know when the announcement was made and the further announcement by the palace they said we're going to re-examine this in a year and i think that is the opening to the door that they can say didn't work out not what we thought it was going to be or the royal family can reach out prince charles who i'm sure was very hurt by this because he was the one who had planned this new kind of royal family prince charles can extend a hand after this year and say what do what about it what do you think we can renegotiate the terms of your being in the royal family so that one year is kind of a magical space that everybody gets a breather and gets an opportunity to say okay we'll be back and see how this is working and perhaps they will say this isn't to our liking it isn't what we hoped it would be so let's come back and work out work out something else they'll go back and it'll be awkward i mean it'll be awkward but they have to go back that's where their their family is and um they're going to have to visit and i don't think they're going to stop their charitable work but what i do hope they do is they offer archie an opportunity to make a decision either way and how he wants to live his life that i think they really should let allow him to make choose his own destiny really the harry and megan affair has undoubtedly brought trouble to the royals but there's no doubt that megan also brought glamour and sparkle i think when you talk about beatrice and eugenie filling the roles it's more about fulfilling the engagements that the sussex has left behind between them harry and megan had two maybe 300 engagements a year and so eugenie and beatrice are the ones to fill it them taking the place of harry and megan you know it's not newsworthy right so um it's great we'll keep things moving and i'm sure they'll do a great job and uh nobody will um you know i don't know if it's all that newsworthy it's just not that imaginable boring also it's like people are obsessed over kate's sister's butt during her wedding like do we really care about beatrice and anyone else have we ever talked about that as to filling that magical role that drawing power that harry and megan had i don't think they can do it certainly their father is on the outs with the royals they are born royal they are blood princesses of the united kingdom but that high power that wattage that drew people to harry and to megan it just isn't there they'll be cutting the ribbons they'll be shaking the hands but it's going to be a different vibe some still hope the royal rift will not be too great and will not last too long we need to find out what invitationless harry and megan are going to be on will they be invited to go to balmoral in august when the queen is there will they be invited to significant royal events for example harry with his love of the military will he go to the remembrance ceremony for november 11th commemorating world war one and all the war dead we have to watch over the next year and see how much they choose to take part and how much the palace chooses to include them it's going to be a little bit of a waltz but however it turns out despite their critics many wish them well i support them one thousand percent who doesn't feel what that takes to make that decision to give up everything you've known in your whole life to say i'm going to choose this new life of what i believe to be the truest truest vision for myself you know these um folks for the most part they're already beginning to embark on a brand new life that they seem very excited about quite frankly yeah i think that's the biggest question is what is the future of the monarchy and what does it look like and i think at the end of the day the royal family is like a reality tv show we love it we want to understand more we want to see more of it and i think that um a lot of the public is to blame for this right because we are just beating up every single second that we catch them on camera and breaking down what's really happening behind the scenes and behind the palace walls and i think that we live for it whatever happens this is a story that goes well beyond the couple themselves and what happens next is anyone's guess she's arguably one of the most stylish women in the world just being her that's what style is whatever she chooses the marco sparkle causes shops to sell out websites to crash and twitter to trends hanging in her closet in fact this starlet could only dream of givenchy gowns and prada purses her mother a yoga instructor and father and emmy award-winning lighting director introduced her to the entertainment industry however even with the help of her father megan paid her dues as she climbed the ladder of success meghan markle she might be one of the most chic sophisticated and elegant overlap and um yeah they're more classic pieces and i think it's also made me sort of go outside of the box a little bit have a better knowledge of other designers i like to look polished and put together but there's always going to be like an effortless quality to it just being from la yeah and like rachel is i love her clothes but in my off time i'm not going to wear a pencil skirt because i wear one five days of the week well i think the most important thing you can do is tailoring you think that it's not going to make a big impact but if it fits you to a t you look a million times better and i learned that working on suits she was definitely more prints and patterns we see her in more kind of edgy pieces sexy if you will because that show is very scandalous outside of the show known her skin tone known how to look great on the red carpet she's always sort of teamed her her look to perfection really to be honest and i think you know from a makeup point of view she's never been one to go overboard but she's also been one to understand the environment that she's in and to look appropriate for that for megan she just says i always kept it really chill um you know we haven't seen her with a ton of makeup on ever and i think that's like really true to her style too she's pretty natural alongside megan during her tenure as a leading hollywood actress was celebrity incredible um yeah yeah and make sure it stays on that finger i i think everything about harry's thoughtfulness is and the inclusion of that and obviously not being able to meet his mom it's so important to me to to know that she's a part of this with us and and i think in being able to meet his aunts and and also to be like julia and just different people who are so important to his mom i'm able to in some way know a part of her through them and of course through him and it's um it's incredibly special and you know to be able to have this which sort of links where you come from and botswana which is important to us and it's uh it's perfect it would be safe to say that harry's mother would be proud of his choice for a life-long partner without question i think she would be over the moon jumping up and down you know so excited for for me but then as i said would have probably been best friends best friends with megan so no it's i you know it is days like days like today when when i really miss having you around and miss being able to share the happy news but you know with with the ring and with everything else that's going on i'm sure she's uh she's with her i'm sure she's with us you know you know jumping up and down somewhere else megan not only follows the latest trends in fashion but a lot of her choices stem from her astrological sign celebrity astrologer also i wanted her to feel like it was absolutely right for the occasion um so the actual gown itself was a bateau neck which means it's sort of slashed neck which showed off her her beautiful neck and also a little bit of her shoulders it was a very minimal design it's featured a fitted bodice and a sort of long line a-line skirt the reaction was not what everyone expected weirdly i think everybody was a little bit bummed out with megan's wedding dress choice i think that it was quite lackluster i think we all expected a little bit more i know that that was one of the main reasons that people stayed up especially overseas in the states and in canada to watch the royal wedding or to get up as early as they did was to see what she was going to wear because everybody loved what kate wore and they were so excited to see what megan had chosen and i think everybody was a little bit surprised that it wasn't as exciting as we had hoped and it definitely wasn't as risque megan's wedding gown not only divided social media but critics around the globe i thought meghan markle's wedding dress was okay um i won that can you know be pretty uh accepting of new shapes with style i think that it wasn't that flattering if you had access to any designer in the world and there was no budget and you could have any fabric and any look and any color and anyone in the world dress you i don't know why she went with this dress sure it was not a typical cinderella choice but one that placed the woman proudly front and center it displayed megan's own independence while also respecting tradition and keeping her covered up what i do know is she played it very safe it was very simple it was safe in fact it was kind of appropriate but it was stunning and she did have room to breathe and she probably wanted to have the extra space because she is going to feel quite head up in this crazy environment so the criticism that she received i think wasn't really called for because actually she looked stunning there was also a touch of hollywood given she after all was the house made famous by audrey hepburn and miss markle's dress had a classic hepburn feel i definitely think that she was going for a moment that you know somewhat represented a coming of age she did actually look like a physical angel when she walked down the aisle at the royal wedding and it it kind of did in that way have a little bit of a hollywood flair to it didn't it the 16-foot veil also had a special surprise for her prince it was embroidered with the flowers of all 53 commonwealth nations to represent the roles the new duke and duchess would assume as youth ambassadors and it was held in place by queen mary's diamond and platinum bandeau tiara and it was just a beautiful beautiful beautiful charan light enough and pretty easy to place actually because that's always the key for a wedding you know for anybody's wedding you just want to make sure that that stays well doesn't move and that the veil with the length of it just doesn't pull on it so that's only the little little things that just be careful too which brings up the next round of divided comments regarding her hair and makeup megan met with both her makeup artist and hair stylist before the wedding to discuss her look for the big day well she had a pretty good input i mean the thing is we we came about you know with mood boards and just trying to figure out you know what would be the easiest thing to do and you know i didn't really see much beforehand and you know i didn't really know also what was going to be on the head but i knew it would be something like a charm that knew there would be a veil it's a wedding so i just thought you know something that would be working around the regular slide that she she usually has so it's not about just like you know reinventing something on that day just trying to go with really who she is and really enhancing you know that beautiful head of hair and she's just gorgeous so that was very easy while some claim the look was too casual and quote thrown together with minimal makeup others gave praise for its simple elegance there were some people who criticized the look and wanted to see more makeup on her or expected a more glamorous look it's something that we didn't expect we would typically expect for the blushing bride to be adorned in all kinds of makeup in fact her makeup artist daniel martin who did her makeup on the wedding day she had a lot of suggestions and requests that she wanted to show those freckles she wanted to go for a very airy and elegant fresh look i think that's the wrong approach you know you should always be your best self you should always do uh what is most comfortable style wise because it doesn't matter how much you try to be something it won't resonate bottom line megan was making a statement while she will uphold tradition she will never compromise her values or independent style regardless of any criticism from social media bloggers or expert stylists there was one approval that megan needed before taking her walk down the aisle one thing is evident when joining this royal firm that certain traditions must always be followed and her majesty's approval is paramount luckily it took place but without my knowledge beforehand and autumn rang me and said that it had been approved by the queen so that was a nice thing to hear about five days before the wedding another layer that you just added but you know you always want the indoors to like the dress and it's a matter of respect as well and ultimately the wedding is taking place in her home naturally her dress was compared to middleton's alexander mcqueen number the wedding i would have done one more fitting kate kate kate one i'm sorry i'm never not going to tell the truth well i think kate's wedding dress was sensational and obviously because it was you know mcqueen it was a stunning design and i think you know for many people that was sort of the epitome of the new royals kate absolutely hit the nail on the head with her choice um the lace it was form-fitted it looked like a million bucks and she looked phenomenal she was classy and yet sexy and i think she really just got away with it and i think megan it was a bit too loose fitted it didn't fit her fit her curves the way that kate's did and i just think like the material itself was quite boring it didn't leave much to the imagination what did garner a great deal of praise was megan's stella mccartney reception gown the halter top stunner was the perfect silhouette for megan with her hair in an elegant yet effortless updo add in her hubby's slick ride for the evening and you have the perfect blend of hollywood glam meets royalty she did an outfit change halfway through the wedding and she changed into it was a similar style but it was a sleeveless white dress and i thought that was very very beautiful and i thought that was a little bit more meghan markle for the day leaps and bounds better than the wedding dress itself um it just suited megan it looked amazing and it had that kind of like star quality i thought that was a lot more natural choice i thought she was at a point where you could see the weight of the moment had kind of lifted and at that at that point she was having fun and those comparisons regarding their style didn't stop at wedding gowns i think there's unspoken competition of course i mean they're dealing with the media they're dealing with uh their public uh personas and constantly being compared so naturally human nature is to to kind of like buy into the hype what i love about megan's style in comparison to kate style is she likes to have a little bit of fun so she likes to bring a little bit of flair a little bit of her own personality to it whichever members of the family are closest to the throne i think they're expected to uh you know be more prominent within the public eye and so i really feel for megan i think that's a very difficult situation to be in you're expected to to toe the line and to look regal but not too regal because if you did that you'd overshadow kate you know kate is quite sophisticated she's lived this life for for very very many years so she's very used to sort of a frock coat she's used to the dresses she used to different styles but i do like the fact that she kind of mix and match it up she loves the high street she does go out in high street clothes i love the way that people always say that she sort of regurgitates her clothes every once in a while you know if you've got a gown that cost you 8 000 pounds of course you're going to wear it more than once hopefully but i do think her style is kind of quite traditional she never really goes out the box but she always looks sensational i think kate stress is always a little more on the safe side she kind of plays toward this british monarch of staying within the rules if you will uh you will never catch her you know out of monochromatic matching sometimes when you see her with a brooch or um dress absolutely like below almost to her ankles now that she's married to one of the biggest royal families in the entire world it is very structured very chic very sophisticated very elevated what i love about her style now though even though she is a part of the royal family and she wears a lot of browns and chocolate and navy and creams and things like that she still likes to add a little bit of california girl in there you'll see a little bit of floral every now and then a little bit of fun some of the fascinators she wears at some of the royal polo matches and things like that still has a little bit of fun a little bit of her own taste in there as well but it's very very elevated after the wedding megan continued to make fashion headlines straight after a short honeymoon megan wowed onlookers and a pale goat dress at a charity event with her new in-laws prince charles and camilla megan has always enjoyed a good relationship with her majesty the queen and as a nod of approval to the new duchess the queen invited megan on a royal tour megan did not disappoint as she went back to a tried and true favorite givenchy this design house really knows how to make megan stand out in very edgy yet classic straight styles it's because you know megan is very very fitted everything she wears is extremely structured and fitted i think that when she has the baby that'll become a little bit more relaxed i think the last thing you want to do when you just had a baby is pull out some perfectly beautiful very simple cut real classic piece and underneath she had the famous cream h m maternity dress which is actually from their new mama line which is their maternity line so uh maternity dresses in that line would range from say 12 pounds for a jersey dress to 235 for the fine net and they've also got options for women who are breastfeeding and there's also a conscious line which would be fabricated from eco textiles of course there was the occasional jaw-dropping evening gown from givenchy we have a very special guest to announce the winner her royal highness the duchess of sussex i really liked that dress i was surprised that it was so incredibly fitted she's a big fan of the house of givenchy and so that dress was absolutely gorgeous and i think that she'll continue to be a fan of that brand because they really do dress her perfectly they do a really good job with her megan doesn't have an issue with showing off her pregnancy bump while other royals have opted for looser styles which camouflage a growing belly megan proudly showcased her royal in waiting one day her little boy will know how his mommy killed it on stage and how he was her favorite accessory this woman is so amazing and um a simple decision on what shoes to wear with what dress seems trivial to us for megan she gets critiqued by the world's press and fashion journalist who simply can't get enough of her and pregnancy didn't stop this mama from wearing some incredibly fashionable footwear so it's not very difficult to replicate actually just go for a very simple cards go for a beautiful shower i feel like no other royal would have done that she hopped on a private jet heavily pregnant went over to new york and of course all these superstars attended this amazing event tennis champion and megan bestie serena williams was on hand to host the event for her dear friend in new york city her friends just wanted to celebrate her serena and her best friend who's been her best friend since she was 17 we all have a best friend genevieve and her friend jessica mulroney those were the three women that put it all together and it was a very very small private affair and just a very special time for her and i can't even imagine what food and drink were there but apparently it was all of megan's favorites the venue was none other than the penthouse suite at the mark hotel and the guest list was a-list as well from amal clooney to gail king each had arrived with a lovely gift for the mummy to be i have a standard gift that i do for people that i really care about this baby will have enough books to last a lifetime you had the likes of serena williams priyanka chopra jonas was there it was so hollywood even while she was pregnant megan had a full schedule aside from a royal tour to australia the duchess had a series of appointments in the uk as part of her royal duties and everywhere she went she did it in great style being a style icon is not all about wearing the latest it's pretty amazing i mean i have the two best guys in the world so i'm really happy moving forward one thing is for certain megan will continue to push the boundaries of royal tradition meets high fashion she will never be one to publicly embarrass the firm or cause ripples with her majesty but megan also has her sense of independence sounds like a recipe for success but also rest assured that this actress turned royal will always display her confident fashion sense and strength for many years to come as the duchess of style
