Guy Offers Hand to a Giant Octopus — You Won’t Believe How He Reacts | The Dodo Wild Hearts

i approached him with my camera and the first thing that he did is he went and enveloped the camera and that's when i knew he was a player [Music] this guy came to me [Music] the giant pacific octopus is one of my favorite animals in the world so i always keep an eye out for them when i'm underwater this particular octopus he was so big and he just finished catching a crab so he was kind of like big and excited and puffed up he did swim off a little bit and so we kind of went around the rock that he swam towards [Music] and then he came down the slope and investigated us a little bit more he was investigating me with his special arm that he uses to try to find females it's very long i suspect he was just thinking hey i'm out in the open might as well look for a date and what is this big weird thing that's when i decided this was my chance to feel an octopus's suckers the suckers it's like this most incredible force pulling you in every direction because every sucker almost feels like it has its own brain he got very interested in my hands he got a little bit too interested and so i pulled the sucker a bit and you could almost see him go okay sorry that was a little too much and then after that was much more gentle he started to investigate my dry suit and my scuba equipment they have more sensory capabilities in those suckers than we could even imagine [Music] there's a little communication cable then you kind of grab that and i had to pull it back and you know it's a little too far we can have a good interaction here i spent a lot of time around octopus i just did not feel any of that apprehension that i needed to be concerned about this animal [Music] it felt like a true interaction between two thinking beings it was like meeting an alien they're so smart and he's investigating me with his eyes he's investigating me with his arms his tentacles everything he probably just got bored and realized okay you're not a girl octopus you're not food and you're not trying to eat me so after a few minutes he just crawled away through the kelp through the rocks and disappeared [Music] he's got things to do [Music] like comment and subscribe

I was diving in Limasol in Cyprus about 7 years ago. I came to rest on the floor about 20 meters down and held onto a rock, while I tried to adjust my flipper.

From out of nowhere an octopus hand rapped over my hand very inquisitively as it sat on the rock next to me. I hadn't seen it since it was camouflaged but it revealed its-self and we both locked eyes for what felt like a minute, but was probably seconds. Then calmly, it crawled into the rocks.

I was in shock, my dive partner hadn't seen what had happened. But I felt like we both acknowledged eachother for a moment of respect, then never to be seen again.
Truly beautiful, incredible creatures.
