Welcome to "Good Mythical More." Maybe you've seen these online, they take every frame from a movie and they like put it- Create a line. Create a line, and then it's kind of like this... I haven't seen it. The whole movie.
They just told me and now I'm trying to tell you. It's representing a movie, all the colors in a movie from just... It's like a barcode. You're supposed to guess the movie. Can we do that? Can you do that? Can us do that? Let's try. Well first, let's tell a 10 word story. Okay. Catch. The. Fish. With.
Grandad. Is. Awesome. When. Oh, there's only two words left, okay. Fish with Grandad is awesome when- Cats. Die. Oh! I mean, if they're playing. Just say play, just say
play, just say play. Take it back and say play. I can't, I'm sorry. I don't want cats to die, I like cats. You're the one who don't like cats. I don't want cats to die. But any sport worth watching is worth... I mean, if somebody's gonna die, you know what I mean? NASCAR. Crashes, you know?
Oh, gosh. Oh my gosh, a cat may die,
I'm gonna have to watch this. Okay. Hope they don't die, but it can happen, there are stakes. Great point, Link, great point. You know, a sport without stakes is just recreation.
I was thinking it would be play, when cats play. All right, y'all wanna
see the first movie? Yeah, this is what the art looks like. So I will say that some of these, the crew guessed without
any multiple choices, just based on the way these looks. So each vertical sliver- Is a frame. Yep. So for instance- So this is the linear
run time of the movie. So like early in this
movie, in the first act- Black and brown and blue. And then we've got some green, like okay, they're outside, and it looks like they're outside with a little bit of sky, 'cause you've got this
green and blue there, so they're like outside in a green place. So this might be like "The Notebook," you know, for an example.
Yeah, but it never gets green again, but
it does get real rainy. There's some sky again. There's not a lot of sky. The first time I saw one of these, it was Joe Penna, friend Joe Penna- Mr. Guitar Man. Mr. Guitar Man who went
on to become a director, and he directed... Was it "Arctic?" That sounds right. And his whole movie was white. And it basically was
just like white and gray, like he did this. And he was kind of making fun of the fact that he shot a movie in the snow. It gets real dark around act three. There's a lot of night scenes at the end of act two. Yeah. Would you like some multiple choice, or you wanna... You're doing a good job.
How are we doing with a lot of night scenes
at the end of act two? I like the reasoning. I like how you're piecing it together. I will say, I never stayed
awake for this whole movie. Oh, this is "Lord of the Rings." That gave it away, huh? Okay, so this is "Fellowship of the Ring." "Fellowship of the Ring." Okay, so we got the Shire. It starts off in the
Shire, it's nice and green. After that big long intro
of darkness and voiceover, and impending doom. Oh, wow. That white sliver, I guess is when they were shone. And actually the very
beginning when it's dark is like the firework show in the Shire, and then it's the next day, when they're leaving, right? 'Cause doesn't it start with
like Gandalf showing up, and they're like- It takes a while. It's like a party at night. It takes a while.
I don't know. I think that's what that
little magenta strip is. Bless you. I mean, things get kind of
dark when they're in the mines. That's why it's so dark. And when you close your eyes. And when you close your eyes, yeah. Stevie. And then they're just in
the forest at the end, just fighting it out, hacking
it out, hacking it up, you know, redeeming Boromir. Okay, all right, that's good. I should've guessed it. Oh, this one's taller. This is a shorter movie. This is a shorter movie. Is this rom-com length? I mean, is this relative to the other one? I think so, 'cause "Lord of the Rings" is long. This is a short movie that
has a lot of nature in it, because we've got lots of
greens and lots of blues. Am I right? Tell us if we're getting warm. I'm gonna call this "Cast Away." No. Oh. "Cast Away" is too long for this. Is this animated? No. Okay. There is a transition that happens in this movie color-wise,
but you can barely see it. I don't know, what do you mean by that? What is that dark... There's a dark spot- Right in the middle. There's basically three major ones, like there's the first one there, kind of going into act two. Act one is pretty homogenous almost. Act two, we start at night, and then we end act two, it
looks like, at night again, and then we've got like
smooth sailing in act three. It looks like they're outside for a good portion of act three. The transition that I'm referring to happens almost at the top. Like, it's scrunched into a top area. Is that orange thing Garfield? Is the orange line Garfield? Is this "Garfield: The Movie?" Yes. He made a cameo. He made a cameo at the
beginning of the movie. What is the orange line? Can you tell us? Something changes in the movie? The colors change in the
movie at the very beginning? So it goes from black and white to color. This is "Wizard of Oz."
Is this "Pleasantville?" There you go! Oh.
"Wizard of Oz." So if this is "Wizard of Oz," the big... Well, let me take that back. The yellowish golden
brick-ish stripe there I guess is when they get to the... Everything is the Yellow Brick Road. Yellow Brick Road. Yes, that is the Yellow Brick Road. Things get dark when that
witch has the upper hand. And then, is that green The Emerald City? It might be. I think it might be. This is fun. Okay, let's see another one. Whoa. That's a pretty movie. This is animated. Look at that.
Yeah. Mm-hmm, those colors are too... This is "Toy Story." No. Oh, it's "Finding Nemo." No, it would be more blue. There's not enough blue. "The Lion King?" 'Cause you've got yellows, brown.
Oh, "Lion King," yes. Yeah, "Lion King." Then you got blue sky
I was just like, this is such a nice rug, you know? Yeah, yeah. Surely they sell these, right? That's a cool rug. You can put these in your room.
They do. Your cool room. Not the rug. That's my favorite movie. Why did things get so
white there in the middle, is that when he goes
to Heaven or something? Have you "The Lion King?" His dad dies, I know that,
and he goes to Heaven. No, that's "All Dogs Go To Heaven." Okay. Well then, what's the big
white part in "Lion King?" The big white part in the
middle of "Lion King." Are they in the desert,
do they go to the desert? There's a lot of brown when he dies, but not the white. I don't know what the white is. Okay. Everywhere the light touches. What, this is a weird movie. Now why did they do that? Why is this one turned sideways? 'Cause it's cool.
It's "Inception." Is it? No? This is very... It's not dark enough to be like "Batman." No way. But it's very homogenous. Okay, first of all, this
is not an action movie. This is a marriage story.
Right or wrong? Yeah, I guess it's not
an action movie, per se. Per se? There's action in it. It is an action forward premise. It's also a ride. It's also a ride? Is this "Jurassic Pork," the B movie rip off
featuring only dinosaur pigs? "Jurassic Pork." It's a ride? Well, there's lots of rides, Stevie. It's a ride that smells. "A Bug's Life." Soarin'? A ride that smells? And a ride that's hot. Oh, you're talking about "Speed?" You're just in a bus. Pretty much any bus could turn into "Speed."
It smells bad? Does it smell bad? It smells and it's hot, and the person talking is not funny. The Studio Tour? I think the person's funny. It depends on who you get. It's hot?
I mean, I guess during the summer. It's hot 'cause there's explosions. She's looking for support back there. Right, there is explosions. In what park? Universal. Let's see what are the rides at Universal? "Transformers," "The
Mummy," "The Simpsons." Too many rides at
Universal are simulators, like going into a room and
just being moved around in front of a screen. There's a "Spider-Man" movie. They've gotta move away from all that. Stevie, how do you even know what the rides are at Universal? Yeah, when was the last time that you went to Universal? Did somebody tell you that?
Well, okay, so back to the color palette. I mean, obviously it's
accurate, 'cause it's true, but when you find out the movie, you're gonna be like, oh yeah, that is the color palette of that. It's a ride at Universal, but it's not an action movie. I just went to Universal
and rode every single ride. "Harry Potter," obviously. It's an old ride, in which you are scared of something jumping out of the water
that is very large. "Jaws?" Yes. Oh, well, that's the Studio Tour. Well, that's the Studio Tour. Okay, so I haven't seen
"Jaws," but I guess- Yeah, we have, there it is. There it is right here. I have watched it. When it gets really magenta and dark red is that from all the blood? Oh. I was thinking of Florida. Thinking of Florida. Is there so much blood
towards the end of "Jaws" that like that much of the movie's bloody? It's been a long time since I saw "Jaws." So that was not part of the Studio Tour in Florida. There is blood and so much
of it takes place at sea. And so much of it takes place
in the day time, I guess. Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
Which is interesting. So you can see the shark. Oh, okay. Oh, now this is a long one. Long and dark. This is that movie with Robert Redford where he was alone sailing. And was it at night? "Adrift." Is this a gangster movie? "Godfather."
No. It's so dark. It's funny just how movies don't have that many colors. First of all, lots of
movies are blue and brown. Quick reminder, I want you to
check out my dad's podcast, "Dispatches From Myrtle Beach." He talks to me every other
week now, we're releasing it. Subscribe to the YouTube channel at Dispatches From Myrtle Beach. He gives me an update on his life, you email him jokes and
he tells them to me, and then we both try to
figure out what they mean. Lots of other things. It's fun, it's for you,
"Dispatches From Myrtle Beach." One interesting thing
that you could develop is an ability to look at these and then guess the length of the movie, which I think I would be better at than guessing the movie,
just based on the shape. If this is relative, it's just as long as "Lord of the Rings." No, it's not as long. Yeah, I believe it's a little shorter, but it is a long movie. This movie is two hours
and 34 minutes long. Give us a- How long is it for real? One moment. A color hint or something. Like, it starts off really blue. Three hours, 14 minutes. Whoa! The hint is- It starts off really blue, it's black and brown.
It has something in common with both "Jaws" and
"Dispatches From Myrtle Beach." It takes place at the beach. It's at the ocean. Or, yeah. The ocean. "Waterworld." Three hours and 14 minutes. "Waterworld" is long. Is it? Yeah.
Probably. I think I see Dennis Hopper
in there a few times. It gets blue, it gets
bluer, then it gets dark. Oh, by the way, at Universal,
Then it gets black. Now that I remember it, the
"Waterworld" show is great. I've heard that, and
I've never watched it. Those people are so talented, and it's like they're on jet skis and they're doing crazy things. First of all, it's been cold
in these parts, this year, and I was there and I was very cold. Did you get wet? No, because someone told
us to get on the back row. They were like, "If you
don't wanna get wet, "get on the back row," so I was like, "I do not wanna get wet, "'cause I will get so mad if I
get wet 'cause it's so cold." But there was people who got soaked, at it was like 44 degrees.
I feel for them. But it was such a good show. I'm just into it. I'm just really into
"Waterworld" the show, not the movie, but the show.
I've heard that. You gotta check it out. So this is an ocean
movie, it stays very dark. It gets even darker at the end. Oh, it gets so dark. There's a dark night of the soul there at the end. But the climax takes place in the nighttime.
"The Abyss." Yep, that's true as well, yeah. Is this a documentary? There are documentaries about this. About this, this is a real life event. This is a movie that's
about a real life event? Mm-hmm. "Alien." Something happens in
the ocean at nighttime and then it gets very, very bad. Something happens in the ocean- In the nighttime, and it gets very, very bad.
In the nighttime. What happens in the ocean- "Titanic." Yeah. Oh yeah, it did sink at night. Oh, look how green, "Green Hornet." Black and green. This is "Green Hornet." Black and blue, black and darker green. My favorite superhero
movie, "Green Hornet." I think you might be
able to guess this one. Only greens and blacks, so much black.
Okay, all right. It's so dark, it's so green. Mm-hmm. So it's in the woods at night. No. Dark and green. It's a military movie. No. I thought you said we could get it. Dark and green. Like starts off at nighttime. You're thinking too much in reality. Oh, it's animated. No. It's fake. It's "Sin City." Green. Oh, it's like that though,
it's got weirdness, it's like "Johnny Mnemonic,"
or whatever that was, right? It's a very big, iconic film franchise, but main big one. "Star Wars." No, it's black and green, when you think about the
poster, when you think about- It's a big franchise? Oh, this is "Jurassic Park." No, it's black and like neon green. "Tron." "Blade Runner." Neon green? I don't trust your hints, Stevie. You haven't seen this movie.
I was talking about the Universal in Florida
with the "Jaws" ride, okay? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. God! Neon green in space. No. Neon green in like a bar? "Cocktail." This is "Cocktail." Keanu Reeves. Keanu Reeves was in it. Say what? Keanu Reeves. Oh, um- "Point Break." "Speed." "Matrix," "Matrix," "Matrix." "Matrix." Oh, it looks like "The Matrix." Yes! Black and green. Yes. Yeah, I guess it is kind of neon greenish. Wow. Oh, oh! There's a lot of scenes in this one. Hold on! Lot of colors. There's some weird stuff happening here, the way that they've
decided to do the colors. It's a lot of alternating, like it goes from dark to lightish. Yet, everywhere it's light,
it's also like strange, it's- Is this a horror movie? What in the? This is interesting. Like, even there where it's like- I think it's a different method. Where it goes from red, you see the reds, it's like white, red,
white, red, white, pink. Yeah, so I believe that
this is a different method, because the previous ones, I believe would take the entire frame
and coalesce it into one color and make the line that color. This one is taking the entire frame and taking it and collapsing
it into a vertical line based on the frame itself. We need some sort of a hint here. It's so dark, there's a
little bit of redness. Mm-hmm. Red and whiteness. It's scary. We're in horror.
So it is a horror movie. "Saw." No, it's not red enough. "Seven." This is "The Exorcist." Mm-mm. "The Shining!" Yes! "The Shining." So what happens so green
there in the middle? He goes outside at some point. And so the red is where like all the blood comes down from the hall.
The blood comes down the hall, and the little girls. Then it keeps cutting back to the blood, but then it keeps cutting
back to the not blood. Okay, I'll buy it. I don't wanna see another one. No, no, this is so long. This is the last one. It's a pastel, it's nice and purple. This is why I don't watch movies, too movie colors. This is a long, purple, boring movie. Well, yeah. I'll tell you right now, you do not watch this.
"Barney!" "Barney Origins." Oh, this is a movie about a princess. This is the Barbie movie. Is this a movie about a princess? No. Okay, hint, please. It's actually a show. This is all the seasons? No, it's a singular episode of a show that you do not watch. That changes everything. Why is it so purple? It's so monotone. It's a sitcom? No. It's a drama. Yeah, that's pretty long.
No. "Alias." Something we don't watch. I loved "Alias," by the way. I had it all on DVD. I can't list the things
that I don't watch. This is actually not
as long as it appears, I would say on average, it's between 15, 25 minutes
long Monday through Friday. So this is "Good Mythical Morning?" This is "Good Mythical Morning?" So it gets dark- I was gonna ask y'all- What's the darkness? It's "Try Not To Get
Caught Stealing Part Two," that's the episode this is. Oh, okay. Why is our show so purple? Yeah. Why are we so purple and
beige and vomit green? Drab. Better than why is it so yellow. It's basically this set and whatever we happened
to be wearing that day and everyone else. Wow, we should put this up on set. And then when people do
this, it'll be inception. Eh. Somebody got a haircut. Did somebody get a little haircut? Yeah.
