here's everything you might have missed in Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3. welcome back to Nerdist news I'm Dan Casey and today we're breaking down all the Easter eggs and hidden details that you might have missed in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. however to talk about all of this in detail we have to spoil what happens in the movie so if you haven't seen it yet and you're worried about that sort of thing leave now before it's too late you're right okay let's get into it shall we well we broke down what those post-credit scenes mean for the team's future already today we're turning our attention to the film's Myriad Easter egg subtle details and comic references that you might have missed now something that many fans immediately clocked is the Guardians have sweet new super suits this time around their costumes pay homage to their iconic look in the 2008 comic book run and they incorporate the ravagers logo as well to pay tribute to star-lord's Roots now the movie also assumes that many viewers have seen the Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special it's referenced several times throughout the movie that romp established that the Guardians have taken over nowhere the celestial head mining Colony after purchasing it from The Collector the special was also our first taste of the guardian's massive new ship the Bowie which replaced the Benetar and speaking of the guardianships you can also spot the tape deck from the Milano inside Quill's bedroom on nowhere as well as for nebula's new arm which can turn into a Mega Man style Cannon among other things it is not Bucky's vibranium arm according to James Gunn and I say that because in the holiday special nebula gifted rock at the prosthetic limy's coveted ever since Infinity War oh I'll get that off and that race is an important question does Rocket still have Bucky's arm and if not where is The Winter Soldier's most valuable asset most importantly the holiday special confirmed that mantis and Peter are biological siblings which nebula casually mentions at the beginning of the movie the special is referenced again later on during the film's second post-credits scene where we see Peter's grandfather Jason he's reading a newspaper with an article about Kevin Bacon being abducted by aliens a central plot point in the holiday special and speaking of Peter's grandfather the name Jason is perhaps a cheeky reference to Peter's actual space-faring father from the comics Json of spartax star-lords always had daddy issues but they were on a much more cosmically significant scale in the Marvel Cinematic Universe because ego's Dairy Queen dalliance means that Peter is half Celestial anyway let's bring things back to Nowhere for just a moment the bar that Star-Lord drinks himself stupid and appears to be the boot of Jamiah named for the celestial Jamaya the analyzer this bar briefly appeared in Guardians volume 1. except now it looks like it has a sweet new logo that looks an awful lot like the Guardians of the Galaxy logo which Adam Warlock promptly destroys as for that dead drunk Peter Quill that nebula carries through the streets that wasn't actually Chris Pratt it was an elaborate and eerily realistic 35-pound Prof made by Legacy effects that even breathes moving on to more serious matters Peter's emotional journey and acceptance that his relationship with Gamora has fundamentally changed is a major plot point in the this movie and at one point he even acknowledges that he might be more than a little responsible for the snap when he punched Thanos in a moment of anger in Infinity War why would you do that but the film's true protagonist as they explicitly tell us is rocket whose tragic backstory was the centerpiece of this movie The Emotional core of his past was his friendship with fellow animal experiments Lyla thiefs and floor now Lila is Rocket's significant otter in the comics first appearing in 1982's Incredible Hulk 271 hailing from half World rather than the high evolutionaries lap Lyla was first mentioned to the MCU as one of Rocket's known associates in his rap sheet in the Nova course files Rocket's prisoner designation 89p13 also appeared on that list of crimes which included theft arson and biting just to name a few as for Rocket's other Pals they are based on comic book characters as well but they have slightly different names thiefs is based on walrus an aptly named walrus engineer and floor seems to be based on Black Jack O'Hare a bunny mercenary in Rockets Nemesis for a time they also made their debut in Incredible Hulk number 271. another fun fact about Lila and Flor is that their voice actors Linda Cardellini and Michaela Hoover respectively have both appeared in the MCU before Linda Cardellini plays Laura Barton Hawkeye's better half and a super spy in her own right Michaela Hoover had a small role in the original Guardians as a member of the Nova Corps on xandar and I gotta say this movie's absolutely jam-packed with unexpected cameos and guest stars James Gunn's tribute to the original Guardians of the Galaxy Comic lineup returns with stacar ogord's ravager team after paying tribute to yondu and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 Sylvester Stallone's takar o'gord is back along with their newest recruit Gamora although Michelle Yo's Elita o'gord and Ving Rhames as Charlie 27 were conspicuously absent we did see The Return of other characters like Michael Rosenbaum as martinex and Tara Strong as Mainframe now strong who also voices Miss minutes on Loki actually replaced Miley Cyrus as the voice of this floating robot head now for those who don't know this ravager crew is an homage to the earliest iterations of the Guardians team in the comics also among their number is Kruger who you might have noticed has a sling ring that's because this alien and sorcerer who first appeared in 1991's Guardians of the Galaxy annual number one actually apprenticed under Doctor Strange in the high evolutionaries headquarters on counter Earth one of the guards named flectic is played by Pete Davidson who also starred in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad for like five minutes and yes James Gunn also got in on the fun as well he voices lamb shank that wretched creature the team discovers while freeing prisoners from high evolutionary cells thank you now someone else pulling double duty on counter Earth is Judy Greer as the voice of the horrifying hybrid War Pig you may remember Greer as Scott Lang's ex-wife Maggie in Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the WASP you people can't show up here whenever every place see they can you warrant actually they don't in addition to Pete Davidson and a return of Michael Rooker as yondu there are two other Suicide Squad stars in this movie Daniela melchior and Jennifer Holland melchior plays the orgo corporate end in Ura and Holland who's also James Gunn's wife plays administrator qual the one that Gamora shoots and the leg to prove that she means business and yes Nathan Fillion finally gets his MCU speaking role as well as the guard Master karja phillian previously appeared in a cameo as a prisoner in Guardians volume 1 and on a bunch of movie posters as the superhero Wonder Man and a sequence that was cut from guardians volume 2. and while Aquaman star Yaya Abdul Mateen II will officially play Wonder Man in the MCU phillian finally got his due at long last as for other cameos back on nowhere we saw Seth Green Return as Howard the Duck during a tumultuous Game of Poker and that table also included the broker played by Christopher Fairbank who refused to buy the orb from Peter back in Guardians volume 1 Rhett Miller of the old 97s as bizarre Mick tockalock who first what the is that name as their Mick talk a lot is it berserk is the B pronounced as bizarre miktokalok who first appeared in the holiday their name all right Beezer make a talk a lock and of course trauma entertainment co-founder Lloyd Kaufman as Gretel mop Kaufman previously appeared as a prisoner in volume 1 and helped give James Gunn his start in the industry he hired him to write tromeo and Juliet back in the day now when the team goes to infiltrate the fleshy orgo scope they do so by wearing brightly colored spacesuits and many fans immediately thought that this Bears a striking visual similarity to among us but as James Gunn confirmed on Twitter they're actually no homage to 2001 A Space Odyssey and chances are this movie might have made you make your own homage to 2001 if this movie made you cry like a giant baby as well and speaking of giant space babies Adam Warlock everybody engineered to be the perfect organism by The Sovereign Adam was as his Mama Ayesha notes removed from his this cocoon a little too soon now some fans have complained online that will poulter's Adam Warlock isn't this detached philosopher God they remember from the comics but you gotta remember he was basically a giant idiot baby during his early appearances in 1969's Thor 165 and 166. with that said we do get a glimpse of his Godlike Persona by the movies and when he rescues Star-Lord from deep space with a cheeky homage to Michelangelo's the creation of Adam and speaking of Creations while The Sovereign are the ones who engineered Adam in the MCU it turns out the high evolutionary is the one who engineered The Sovereign and among the other races he takes credit for are these aronians and the anime the zeronians were a peaceful alien Society whose King clashed with the Hulk in 1968's Incredible Hulk 103 and the Annie men were humanoid animal Servants of the high evolutionary who first appeared in 1995 Scarlet Spider unlimited number one and they are not to be confused with the Annie hyphen men that fought Daredevil or the new men the Human animals that populate counter Earth in this move and serve the high evolutionary in the comics I know it's stupid you left out some important information but that is the gist of it we also get a couple of fun Guardians food callbacks as well on the Bowie Drax eats his favorite snack zarg nuts and inside orgill Corp you can spot someone eating a yarrow root in the background this is the fruit that nebula unsuccessfully tried to eat in volume 2 but it wasn't ripe enough yet it's not ripe and speaking of volume 2 you may remember the monsters that mantis tames those are the battery-eating Obelisk that they have to slice and dice their way through on a mission for The Sovereign at the beginning of that movie at least until rocket Sticky Fingers get them in Big Time trouble probably because Rockets stole some of their batteries dude and as for Rocket he's now finally the leader of the Guardians that he always thought he should be and he has a sweet new lineup to prove it in the film's post-credits scene we see that one of their new members is phyla another of the high evolutionaries experiments and as we explained in our post-credits breakdown this powerful child is actually Phi Lavelle she's the daughter of the original Captain Marvel Marvel and went on to hold the mantles of Captain Marvel Quasar and Martyr over the years she was also a key member of the Guardian so we're excited to see what she can bring to this team and whatever Adventures come next and this all begs the question of whether or not we could also see drax's daughter eventually return to the land of the living in the MCU because in the comics she is better known as moon dragon and has a deep connection with phyla but as with anything like that only time will tell now as for that big dance party at the end it's not just a moment of much needed catharsis for the Guardians it's also some major character development for Drax because if you remember back in volume 2 Drax bragged about how neither he nor his wife dance he told Peter there are two types of people those who dance and those who don't and Drax even went as far as to Proclaim that only idiots Dance by the end of that movie but now that he's no longer drags the Destroyer but Drax the dad he too can finally let loose and bust a move anyway folks there you have it those are the biggest Easter eggs details and references that you might have missed in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. we'll have even more coverage over on Nerdist in the days ahead but for now tell us what did you think of this movie did you spot anything that we missed black is for orange yellow is for green green is for red and red is for yellow no yellow is for yellow green is for red red is for green let us know in the comments below and for the latest and
