Grow Tip - Controlling Fungus Gnats

hey this is jason with your round garden with your grow tip of the day while adult fungus gnats are more annoying and disgusting than an actual danger to your plants a large enough infestation can result in larvae that eat away at your plants roots especially young seedlings and cuttings we've had success in knocking down gnat populations with a product called mosquito bits these corn cob granulars are coated with bti a natural occurring bacteria found in soil whose spores are toxic to mosquitoes black flies and fungus nets but not to humans or animals if you're growing in soil you can either mix in the bits prior to planting sprinkle the bits on the soil surface or soak the bits in your irrigation source prior to watering you can also use the soaking method when you're growing hydroponically in either case be sure to place the bits in a screen sock or coarse bag to prevent the actual bits from clogging your irrigation system this is jason with year round garden with your grow tip of the day
