Grinding Barley Chop....New Years Calf!!

[Music] hey there happy new year we're out oops there's my fingers we're out on the uh pasture here happy new year yeah there's our northern farmer i'm testing out a new phone last time sound quality and everything was not good but anyway shawn's coming in with the um the chop they were doing some chop there at the home quarter for uh the chop in and what's left we're gonna give us a treat for the cows and they're just all in the bush it's a little windy today a little cool not very sunny there's our northern farmer and his brother [Music] pretty soon you'll see the cows start moving over here because they know they know what's coming yeah they're starting to come already it's a big treat for them it's nice to give them a little treat yeah they're starting to move out now there we go over there so oh they're excited so if you stop to check and check me out say what you doing here he had a new year's baby last night and two earlier on so due on uh december 30th i believe and one on new year's day this isn't the busiest time for for calving yet but it's starting starting to do the night checks and whatnot just yeah she's a little nippy out well there's a few stragglers i guess way back there i guess they're the bulls they'll saunter over when they're ready there's a nice lineup you can go right right amongst them and almost count your herd it's good time to check too check and see who's uh getting ready to calve out you'll notice anything he's making a bag on the bare skin until the next time hi girls oh there's tyson come over and say hello it sure dropped dave temperature the temperature seemed like it just dropped in the wind yeah just in case they decide to follow the tough [Music] road nope back up nope nope don't go zone usually uh you know we can leave the gate open but not when we got the chop see they're a little bit wanting to make sure they're going to get every last drop there we go now they settle down again all locked up figures cold oh yeah [Laughter] it's a treat it's nice we sure are snoopy [Music] holy i know it's a good time to check them out well what's on tap for the rest of the day ty well it's gonna be darker in a way well we might have a couple extra minutes summer sol or winter solstice has already passed yeah but it's cloudy and snowing we didn't get to see the that star the bethlehem star or juniper and saturn it was about he was partying in the i city get a chance to see it well i think that's going to be about it because my fingers are just about froze go warm up and there we are again so we're just going to have a little peek at our new year's baby here your fingers or your fingers yeah my fingers are watermelon it's actually quite warm in here because we usually keep one or two cows in when the calves are here to keep warm and this is our little new year's baby hey she's a heifer now that you might yep yep yep you get there we go come on mom's gonna come in you're gonna get to have some lunch a little wobbly hi hi here you hungry hmm you hungry no she don't want you to take my finger nope oh there she goes but not so much she doesn't seem so like she's starved or anything so hello baby they're so pretty they're so tiny and cuddly at this stage and snoopy and then in a little bit they'll come and they'll bunch in the back side just like a just like a billy goat that's what i was looking for that word there we are and they're so pretty so pretty yes it's nice to have them to get to know them and easier to work with them but they can get stubborn too if they get to be too familiar with you okay you gotta have just the right amount very nice now i should go see the other ones that were born on the 30th they're already in the shed still close to the barn keep an eye on them for a little bit mom's going to be in right away yep there's comes a mama oh yeah there's babe now just close the gate here there we go yeah oh he's going i just cleaned it oh well i don't know what does he call it yeah he's got it perfect yep that's what we look for make sure that's why yeah well he was so full of energy when we saw him hey laurie is that right yeah that's right all right sean what do you figure today no happy new years no happy new years okay i'm going to go lori do you want to come with me to i just want to get those other ones the december 30th okay really really there we go and back to the heifers and then we got that big shed there that's once they um get their shots and everything and we know they're sucking well then we just move them over here for a little bit right ty right but all our peppers are still here that we haven't sold yet yes and there's a couple pretty soon we're keeping that yes and i've got a couple in here too which is kind of sad because they we start to uh yeah oh there he is that's the first the one that laurie calls the this one's the first one that was born yesterday okay before yesterday yeah oh and he's just beautiful too because he's got this now i don't know if mom is a friendly cow she's okay i don't want to and the other one at the back and how is she protective so we've got to give him a little bit of space they're only a couple days old so i won't get as close as i did to the one in the barn but isn't he beautiful look at those colorings not one where just like a little there this one right here yeah hi what's he saying huh yeah mom's that's uh her calf at the back there a little white marking is like mama i don't want to get too too much there just in case she's gonna be a little annoyed can i touch you well mom where's mom yeah there we go yeah so those were the december 30th babies going out and checking out the females already eh and the heifers they're all so snoopy too yeah so we got nice nice straw in here when they come out of the barn and stuff we can like say keep an eye there's uh our little black white face oh there that's the mama another dog sookie in the background there she loves to come in here and curl up with peppers here yeah and there we are so that's all for now here we go [Music] you
