[Music] for you do official pilot demo today another day another demo flight for da so Falcon jet chief pilot Franco Nessie and captain Nick Linehan I like it I'm ready except on this 8x mission the guy in the left seat ready for departure 3 4 is not your average corporate jet pilot less is more in his airplane Michael he's Mike boolean there takeoff runway 3 for a level head an aviator beautiful posture here comes the cure there we go who's seldom on the level when he a v8 so just give me some chow western so you got to feel for the aircraft don't be shy shy it's not a word that flies well in the topsy-turvy yankin bank haiji world of mike gilliam he's one of the all-time great aerobatic pilots a US national champion a top contender of the Red Bull Air Race circuit and a crowd-pleasing airshow performer with legions of fans all over the world [Applause] it looks like it's dangerous it's out on the edge it's very demanding absolutely and I wouldn't say that it doesn't come without its risk factors but I'm a professional at what I do I've practiced it for thirty years day in and day out and there's nothing that the airplane does that I don't ask it to do he's been doing it since he was old enough to reach the rudder pedals for more than 50 years his parents ran a legendary flight school at Hanscom field near Boston it's where I learned to fly his late father Myron gave me my checkride [Music] which made this moment shall we say extra-special just like the birds right just like okay so mixtures rich prop is full boost pumps on fuel center tank canopies locked he took me for a spin actually several in an extra 200 what do you love about this you just can't describe what it feels like the implement is so light this airplane is just an extension of your arms and your feet and every little thing you can feel on the flight controls which is really what's so great about this thing I just connect it all to flying a Falcon or B it's all about the connection of the pilot and the airplane no matter the make and model and so it went on the Falcon 8x now flying off the New England coast at about 40,000 feet man it's just so easy to hand fly honey it's insane some might call their next manoeuvres insane a series of 60-degree banked turns at flight level four zero zero ten and you can start rolling to the right whoo make sure there's no 172s out the right side yeah hard-pressed your tonight right man it's amazing how nice to stick feels that's awesome get it out it gives you so much confidence in the air it's unbelievable right a falcon is a pilot sir that's its reputation it's so fluid in the sky that you forget that it's a fly-by-wire machine and I think that is what people mean when they say it's a pilot's airplane as is the extra I got a reminder of that thanks to Mike gracious enough to let a one-armed pilot take the stick okay all right give me a loop straight ahead perfect more back pressure now nicely done looking out the front good beautiful floating across the top nicely done no loops or rolls in the 8 X but after a dissent that pegged the gauges that's awesome so cool that is Everest this airplane will not bite you it's everything that it flies like this it's sick right Mike logged his first 8 X landing just keep it right it out there look more right rudder just a little bit four wings live gonna pull right rudder okay that's okay she'll civil right down what do you think I think it's awesome it's difficult to believe that there's a big airplane behind you and it becomes a singular relationship between you and the flight controls and the airplane you feel like it's an extension of you just like I have when I'm flying my aerobatic airplane it may seem like a long way from an 8x to an extra but that's not how my GU lien sees it for deso Aviation I'm Miles O'Brien
