worshiping now listen i'm not gonna be up here a long time and i promise you we're not gonna be in church a long time today so you've got to jump in just look over at somebody real quick tell them you got to jump in while it's while it's hot while it's hot so listen some of you may be wondering why we do these decrees and we keep speaking over our finances we speak over our our seed well listen job 22 and 28 says you will also decree your thing and it will be established to you and this is my thing that god has given us the power to manifest things with our words that's why you got to be careful what you say i i look at my life and i'm going to tell y'all almost everything in my life came from me speaking stuff the the house i live in came from a declaration the car drive came from a declaration me being the pastor of this church came from a declaration the lord showed me that i would be the pastor but i had to say what he showed me so i need y'all to understand that there's power in what you say [Music] now listen i'm getting ready to show you something job says this also in job 36 and 11 it says if they obey and serve they shall spend their days in prosperity and years in pleasures somebody say that my days shall be spent in prosperity and my years in pleasure now listen the key to this stuff is you've got to believe what you're saying it's gonna manifest that my days i'm not gonna struggle my whole life is that anybody's testimony that the days of me living check to check god is gonna give me a strategy i'm gonna walk out and i'm gonna live stress-free gonna spend the rest of my life worrying about money all right now this is what i really wanted to get to we're not gonna get past this i got some other scriptures i want to read but i need y'all to to clear your throat and get your voice ready because we've we we've got a a declaration one of my favorite scriptures is found in second corinthians chapter nine and verse eight and it says god is able to make all grace where's jeremiah there you go just my glasses what was that song you would say thank thank god for grace well paul said with we say we serve a god who is able to make all grace abound towards us watch this that you always have all sufficiency in all things and may have an abundance for every good work that we serve a god see there's a level of grace that he uses to save you but then after he saves you everything else in your life is based upon his grace so there's a level of grace and grace is a synonym for favor they're the same thing there's a level of favor that that you can attain with god where he'll make things happen for you that you know ain't supposed to happen for you so so i need you to open your mouth and i need you to declare that i'm getting ready to walk into an unusual season of favor i need you to declare it for somebody else that you're getting ready to come into a season of unusual favor look at somebody and tell them ridiculous favor belongs to you claim it for yourself ridiculous favor belongs to me [Applause] say this that wherever i go favor is gonna meet me there favor's gonna meet me at my house flavors gonna meet me at the bank favor's gonna meet me in my business favor is gonna meet me [Music] somebody shot ridiculous faith [Music] so here it is go to the job if you obey and serve all sufficiency [Music] all grace will abound towards you so i need you right now in the present to give god praise for your future because you've got a future that's full of ridiculous overwhelming abounding abundant grace as you sow your seed i need you to give god some glory come on open up your mouth and give him glory for grace [Music] oh yeah thank you jesus while you're yet standing i need you to talk to your neighbor one more time just look at them you don't got to touch them and say our god is so good come on look at somebody else and say our god is so good hallelujah thank you jesus he's so good he's been better than good i can't praise right now i promise you we're gonna circle back and remember just how good god has been but if you've got one reason on your mind that he been good i'ma give you just a moment to express your gratitude [Music] express your gratitude [Music] do excuse me i just want to testify [Music] yes [Music] so clap your hands so all right [Music] that's good [Music] nehemiah well i told y'all this morning if you was here i told you to just get one reason to be glad if you got a reason just wave back at me pastor i got a reason because after everything still guys so [Music] all right nehemiah 11. just look at your neighbor tell them to be continued to be continued [Music] so listen nehemiah [Music] 11 verses 1 and 2. [Music] listen y'all trying to make parts that's so cute i will rejoice [Music] all right that's good listen i'm anointed for three things in this moment god has anointed me that's more than three things i'm in order to preach i'm anointed to shift atmospheres i'm also anointed to get y'all out on time so you can go to brunch okay man i'm also anointed to make you get the kickoff on time amen so i just need you to to to give me 30 give me 30 minutes give me 30 strong minutes i promise you somebody say 30 minutes for me that's not for the rest of church for me here we go scripture says now the leaders of the people lived in jerusalem the rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of ten to live in jerusalem the holy city while nine out of ten remained in other towns and the people blessed all the men who somebody say willingly willingly offered to live in jerusalem niv says volunteer they willingly offered to live in jerusalem i want to talk to you this morning about the meaning the meaning of ministry demeaning of ministry you can be seated i'm only reading the first two verses but the context for what we're going to talk about today is why i need uh your attention and a little bit of time the context will go from 11 and verse 1 all the way to 12 and verse 26. but if you look through it uh it would take me about a half hour to read it because what nehemiah has done is given us another list of names all right so listen we talked about this a few uh weeks ago just give me a few moments i promise you there's a praise still in the room don't come out of it stay there that our purpose for for existence as a church is to celebrate god's presence which is what we were just doing that's and what we're still doing that is our worship to communicate god's word that is evangelism to assimilate god's family that is fellowship to educate god's people that is discipleship but the last thing that we are to do is to demonstrate god's love which is ministry that the church say ministry uh we have to be careful y'all to embrace all of the assignment not just the parts that we like often uh um especially if you are called to do a specific thing you often think that this is the only thing that we're supposed to do so if you're called to to evangelism then you feel like we've only got to evangelize if you are a worshiper you think worship is the most important thing everything that god calls us to do is important but we have to do all of it amen and so we said that ministry is the demonstration of god's love through serving i need you to understand ministry is not about what you can get out of god but ministry is about what god can get out of you ministry at its core is selfless service of one to another that the other might benefit while the giver watch this y'all is making a sacrifice let the church say sacrifice so i need you to understand that ministry uh has nothing to do with your clothes it's not about how you can hook up with people and network with them so that you can advance it's not about what you can get but it is about what you can give so the real question as it pertains to ministry is not who is helping me but who am i helping i need you to look at somebody real quick and ask them just who are you helping who are you helping uh if i am a believer if i'm a believer uh who i am helping uh versus uh what i am giving that's that's the balance that's what we have to look at when it comes to ministry what sacrifices uh have i made for somebody else to be helped because here's the truth if ministry is not costing you nothing then it's not ministry if if what you are doing if your service doesn't cost you anything if it's not costing you your time if it's not costing your energy if it's not costing you anything then it's really not ministry and so when we look at nehemiah 11 and 12 or the portion that we're going to talk about on today it's tailored to teach us the real meaning of ministry and it and it comes in the form of a list of names and i've preached all the way through uh the book of nehemiah i preached every chapter of this book and so at this point we become accustomed to the practice of listening names of people involved in this project in chapter three he told us who the people were who worked on the wall and what part of the wall they prepared in chapter number seven he lists the names of the people who returned with zarua bell in chapter number eight he records the names of the leaders who were involved in the revival in chapter 10. we talked last week he gave a list of 84 names of people who set their seals on the new covenant that was made between the people and god and in the listing of these names nehemiah was giving evidence of his sincere appreciation for every individual who assisted in the work and it is a reminder y'all this is a good place for you to give god praise when you hear me say it it's a good reminder that our father sees and records what his children do as they serve him even if people don't recognize or appreciate uh your service you can be sure that god knows all about it and he will record it that's why you don't have to trip if we don't call your name if we don't call you out about what you need don't worry about it because the father sees your sincere ministry can you say amen so in chapters 11 and and in chapter 12 uh up to verse number 26 uh the bible here gives us a lesson on serving it is the meaning of ministry it is what ministry means and it's gonna be three things and i'm gonna be out your way first thing is it's about serving wherever god sends you number two it's about serving unto whoever god appoints you number three it's about serving through whatever god permits to happen to you all right so so so so here's the first one ministry means uh serving wherever god sends you just look at somebody real quick and tell them serve wherever he sends you so if you understand the story at this point the wall only took 52 days to build and now the walls and the gates of jerusalem have been restored they've been restored uh since chapter number six but it's important now for the people to inhabit the capital city and cause the population to grow if you remember the city uh when nehemiah got there was sparsely populated they didn't live there because it wasn't a safe place to live but now that the city uh walls have been restored and the temple has been restored now it's time for the city to be inhabited and so what they do and i'm in verses one and two the bible says that they cast lots to see who would live in jerusalem casting lots y'all uh was a way for them to discern what the will of god was and so they casted lots to figure out uh what they were going to do and after the lots were cast uh one tenth of the people were chosen to move from wherever they from whatever village they were living in to come into jerusalem and verse 2 says and i like this it says that they willingly they willingly moved into the city they willingly went into the city they voluntarily went into the city they readily without hesitation uh without reluctance they they happily went in they gladly went in they went into the city with pleasure they willingly went in and served watch this because they understood that while moving away from their homes and their villages may not have been their preference but it served a greater preference i need y'all to catch that i it say let me say it again it may not have been their purpose their preference but it served a greater purpose and sometimes your preference is not as great as god's purpose and so here's what i need you to understand uh as we move forward i need you to never underestimate the importance of simply being physically present in the place where god wants you to be even if it's not your place of choice you need to learn how to be grateful and thankful that he still wants to use you wherever he wants to use you yes i need you to understand come on come on come on i need you to understand that you may not be asked to perform uh some dramatic ministry you may not be asked to do something spectacular but sometimes your ministry is simply being where you're supposed to be sometimes your ministry is just simply being where you are needed and so the men and women and children uh who helped to populate the city were serving god and their nation and the future generation by taking this uh step of faith by simply going and being where god needed them to be now what i want you to see here uh uh let me just before i even go past that just look at somebody and tell them be where you're supposed to be that wherever god sends you you're supposed to be where you're supposed to be don't have folks looking for you but be where you are supposed to be so so watch this i want you to look uh with me at the categories of the people that that were called uh in verse number three uh the scripture talks about the priests and the levites and the temple servants and then in verse number 19 it talks about the gatekeepers in verse number 23 it talks about the singers and then everybody else that's not mentioned they were they were farmers they were farmers so you have you have priests you got levites you got temple servants you got gatekeepers you got singers and you got farmers y'all catch that so so watch this here here's their function here's their responsibility the priest they officiated at the altar and the temple servants uh assisted the priests in in whatever way they needed the levites supervised uh the maintenance of the building while others ministered with prayer and praise and they were both very important there were important there were nearly 300 men that were appointed to be gatekeepers to guard the temple because watch this this is where the tithes and the offering were stored so it was important that the temple be protected uh the singers and i'm gonna come back to them at the end maybe but the singers were assigned to sing at all times there were shifts of singers verse 24 and chapter number 12 said they were singers that were appointed to be their watch by watch so 24 hours a day there were praises being lifted up watched not just on the altar but but on the side in the temple courts there were there were singers there at all times lifting up a praise i'll come back around to that in just a second so so here it is uh it took uh uh and then the the farmers were there to produce they lived around to produce the food that would nourish uh and feed the community so it took many people with many skills to maintain the ministry of jerusalem and each had their own roles watch this everybody in the city did something but but but nobody did everything i need y'all to catch that everybody did something but nobody did everything the levites wasn't doing the priest job the priest wasn't doing the levites job you don't see one person trying to do everything because just like you don't get to choose where you serve based upon your preference you don't get to choose how you serve based upon your preference that this is what i've learned in my years of pastoring that there are three uh categories of people in every local church there are those who do nothing there are those who do something and then there are those who try to do everything y'all didn't catch what i'm trying to say uh that those who do nothing there are those who do something and then there are those who do everything everybody in this church needs to do something look at your neighbor and tell them you need to do something you got to do something uh because it's a terrible thing to do nothing but but you know what's just as bad as doing nothing is doing everything and i came to talk uh to those who ain't doing nothing shame on you you got to get up and do something if you say that you're a part of a local church if you say you're a part of gospel our temple then you need to be participatory uh you need to participate i need you to put your hands on at least one thing and get to work in the church let the church say amen you're doing something thank you but if you try to do everything i need y'all to understand that that's no good trying to do everything because uh you can't be a priest and a levite and a gatekeeper and a singer and a farmer at the same time and and be trying to do all those things effectively when you're trying to do everything watch this for some people it's not even about god getting the glory out of their lives they're they're trying to get the glory for themselves good god almighty and so i need us to understand that all activity ain't ministry some people are doing stuff because they ain't got no life so here's my suggestion to you uh uh i need you to get a life i need you to get a life i need you to get you a social circle i need you to get you some friends stop trying to replace life with activity because you just trying to get some glory and have your hands in everything no no no no because god ain't getting no glory and you can't be effective trying to have your hands in everything and here's the other side of it even if your mindset ain't about you trying to get your own glory uh if you are constantly pouring out i'm trying to figure out who's pouring into you so at some point you you got to get somewhere and sit down so that you can get back what you have given out so so hey man y'all that made me nervous so you've got to remember that you've got to serve wherever he sends you but then let's take it up a level number two you've got to serve under so i say uh oh you got to serve under whoever god appoints you it's about to get it's going to get a little ugly ugly then came into the room [Applause] but we gonna talk so when you read the text and i want you to make me a promise to read this up to verse 26 and chapter 12 when you get home i know some of y'all ain't gonna read it today cause it's football season are you trying to get to brunch i understand but here it is there are several several leadership titles that are mentioned in the text in verse number 3 13 and 16 talks about chiefs of different areas verse 9 14 and 22 talks about overseers chapter 12 there are 22 generations of high priest mentioned right and these are people that god called to be in authority and the people that moved into jerusalem were called to work under their authority so you're you're called you're set to go work in a specific area but you must understand that that that there's appointed leadership already there waiting on you we're not sending you to start off being in charge but you've got to go and be under authority and what i need you to understand and i didn't expect but about seven people to clap and that was five so we gonna be all right but but listen god appoints leadership based on spiritual criteria not secular criteria [Applause] and what we see in the text is that people are willing to live and work and serve under those god appointed for spiritual reasons not because of human qualifications i'm about to step on a couple of tolls for people that feel like they supposed to be in charge and you mad because you not in charge and you've allowed you not being in charge to keep you from serving i need you to understand that secular success does not entitle you to spiritual authority [Applause] that that there are those of us watch this that i believe are anointed to be apostles in the marketplace and and and and to have uh uh leadership in the marketplace but marketplace don't translate to ministry being somebody i know everybody gonna help me it's all right being somebody in the world don't mean you supposed to be over everybody in the church the god that i serve has never looked at a resume and decided that a person is qualified god ain't enough in heaven looking at your resume like oh oh oh yeah you know what let me put them in charge because they in charge over here the devil is alive them things don't equate because what god is doing requires a level of spiritual maturity not secular success listen am i telling you don't don't get your degree because here's the other side let me let me drop this too because there's some people and we all know this to be true you grew up in church like i did uh elder frasier it's it's it's people that that ain't never been nothing secularly but want to be everything spiritually [Applause] you they won't let you be in charge over there so you want to come in here and be the boss of everybody no get somewhere and sit down though they don't like this today am i telling you not to get your degree get your degree go be successful i i i want you if you have a business in here i want you to make that thing a fortune 500 company huh but listen as successful as i want you to be on a secular level if your heart is not turned towards god and the people of god it will not matter when you come to church [Applause] and let me drop this if you think you're better than people and more anointed than people i need you to understand you have just disqualified yourself for leadership [Applause] you think you better i should be in charge because i'm better i i'm more anointed get somewhere and sit down because you have just disqualified yourself for spiritual authority because the most qualified person to ever walk the face of the earth came into his significance not by being in charge but by serving he served his way into significance here it is you just want me to recognize you because you in charge over there the devil is a liar that don't qualify you you need to be spiritually mature the god that we serve i'm almost finished the god that we serve he led by servant he became significant because he served paul says it this way in second uh in philippians chapter number two in verse number six i'm gonna read it uh from the niv so you can understand it he says who being in very nature god did not consider equality equality with god something to be used to his own advantage but rather he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant being made in human likeness and being found in appearance as a man he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death even death on a cross therefore god exalted him and gave him the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name that at the name of jesus every knee in heaven on earth oh my god should bow in every tongue acknowledge that jesus christ is lord to the glory of god the father the god that i serve lord himself and came to earth as a servant and if he could be obedient to the death on the cross how much more should i with my broken and flawed self i should set myself under the leadership that god appoints let me say it another way look at somebody and tell them you ain't nobody the way up is down the way to significance is through your service you got to learn how to follow before you can leave the way up is down that if you went humble and submit yourself god will exalt you they don't like this so i gotta go we got to go so here it is huh just please please look at somebody just tell them please remember the way up is down that if you want to be great just serve [Applause] don't buck the system if you want to be if you want to be exalted just just submit your just humble yourself cause if you humble yourself then making yourself great won't even matter no more and some of us just need to take a real good look at ourselves and remember we ain't worthy of none of it [Applause] because let me just go back real quick if it had not been for the lord who was on my side [Applause] i got 10 minutes 10 minutes so listen listen i told you it was coming back so so listen let me give you number three you serve wherever he places you you serve under whoever he appoints over you and then you serve through whatever god permits to happen to you just because i went through something don't mean i'm stopping serving you know child it been hard i'm i just need to take a break no no no no this text teaches us that no matter what you go through you got a responsibility to keep serving look at somebody and tell them keep serving so let me give you the purpose when you look through nehemiah 11 and nehemiah 12 verses 1 through 26 it's a list of names and the list of names is a record watch this of the fact that god preserved them through varying seasons of struggle including the bondage that they just came out of so so when you look at the text it says so and so and so and so the son of so-and-so because it's a record of the preservation of god watch this in spite of my ignorance in spite of my stupid remember they went in bondage because of they mess but even while they went through bondage god kept them huh and watch this um everybody didn't make it out of the bondage they were in something that should have killed all of them but instead of being dead they were preserved and delivered i need i need i need somebody with a servant's heart with a servant mentality who who remembers uh not even all but just some of what god brought you through i need you to look at somebody and tell them i've been preserved and i've been delivered okay so sometimes sometimes y'all wear me out because you miss the shouting part and then you make me preach longer because because that was the shouting part right there i shouldn't have to say more than i've been preserved and delivered but but since y'all making me preach longer i'm gonna preach longer uh uh watch this let's let's go a little bit further uh there were other nations that that that they were contemporary with that were wiped out or assimilated into other nations so today we don't have any clear way to identify the people who used to be here um watch this what am i saying never in your life y'all remember david and goliath remember goliath was where was goliath from bible scholars come on he was a he was a philistine i wish i had my jeopardy music i'd have played it uh he's a he's a he's a philistine you ain't never in your life met a philistine you've never met a moabite you've never met an ammonite you've never met a hittite you've never met a jebusite all of them are gold but if you look around they are still jews to this day because god preserves them he kept them and he delivered them okay help me preach they went in one way but came out better okay some of y'all ain't saying that because you think i'm still talking about them at this point right here i'm talking about you there are people who went through the same thing that you went through and they ain't here no more but look at your neighbor and tell them i'm still i'm still here and i came out better [Applause] is there anybody who can testify that god kept me through some crazy circumstances crazy places crazy people but somehow i survived i need you to open your mouth cause you survive give him glory [Music] so if you wonder why i serve him the way that i do is because he kept me through all of my mess he kept me through a messed up marriage through divorce through sickness through being broke he kept me open it is the singers i'm gonna come back to the singers so so so let me show you the purpose of the singers in the church when you look at verse uh 24 and in in chapter 12 it at the end of the verse it says that uh the singers were there to praise and worship god after the order of david so when david when david brought the ark back into jerusalem he changed the order of worship the truth is he he erected another tabernacle and he changed the order of worship and watched this there were people that were still going to moses tabernacle but there was no glory in there because the ark was in davis tabernacle but so when the temple was built there were singers that saying uh it says uh watch by watch um it says it after the order of david uh the the the uh the esv says they were there watch by watch which means 24 hours there were singers because david said watch this as long as a fire if he was in prayer with me last sunday i told you that the fire is always supposed to be burning on the altar and david said as long as there's fire and sacrifices going up uh there should be singing in the courts so watch all right and god said that the fire on the altar should never go out y'all with me so watch any time of day a person could bring their sacrifice as a as a form of worship and while they would sacrifice they could go uh uh to the courts and hear the song of the lord being lifted but watch this the song of the lord was being lifted watch this not to the people and not for the people but with the people because watch this i came to worship god because he preserved me because he kept me but here's the thing when you when you live with that at the forefront of your mind you ain't got to sing me out my seat because the truth is i came here to bless them thank god for the singers thank god for javon and derek and everybody that sings on the praise team but the truth of the matter is when you leave knowing that god preserved you you ain't got to shake me and rattle me and roll me to get me to bless god i came to lift him up i came to give him glory i came to magnify him why because he kept me [Music] just look at three people and tell them he kept me he kept me he kept me so i'll serve him for the rest of my life i'll serve him to the day i die [Music] he kept me alive i lived through what other people died in and i came out better [Music] don't serve through if you knew what he kept me through and here's the truth i should be dead i should be crazy i should have lost everything but because i'm still alive because i'm still here i bless him for the rest of your talent and your treasure my encouragement why you shouting make sure you become a part of an active ministry in this church can you say amen he didn't save you and preserve you just for you to serve you so that you can be of use within the body of christ find your place and serve there if you have not done so already i want you to sow somebody say so i want you to do it now the information is on the screen i want you to sow it right now in jesus name if you haven't done so already if you feel so inclined to do it again do it again and the last thing and the most important if you have not already given your life to christ it is so important calvin get get a basket just in case if somebody want to bring a seed to the offering i mean to the altar somebody get a basket if you feel so
