good evening from steam Agony's I'm here with less weight my whole childhood Europa and now we're sitting in the Ilan the FIA and thanks for partners along T magazine and brand live we're going to do a little conversation so yeah how you decided yeah I just blew in I've been and not up and enjoying the eastern cascade which is a beautiful part of this part of the country and I'm from the east side of California mammoth areas where I call my home but the east side of I think all the east side of the whole Pacific range of super schools I was up an exam a little sleep don't talk too much about it it's too nice does anybody know people know so I have a question for you you have managed to stay relevant far longer and almost everybody else in this industry I mean I had posted if you are watching you and so badass tell me what you're thinking how do you people even hear you talk you know I first I have to first clarify this is a very humbling experience in a way and I an honor to hear people say that he life and I received a text this morning from someone that I spent some time with the last week instead of same thing so I have to do the air there that it I don't think that for granted at all maybe because of that it might be why keeps inspiring myself and I we have so many diversities in looking and in the sport esteem so many different techniques that we can explore so many different activities so many different experiences that it comes quite natural for me to just go do whatever the heck it is that I I guess that's probably one of the reasons why I've never really went away I've ever taken a knee I don't think it went wrong I knew my thing you know because I just love I love all the different things we can do I love the dedication that a World Cup racer does I love the dedication that someone's out fewer does a low-speed jumpin I love mogul skiing I love skiing on really really bad no the one thing that I probably find the leaf enjoyment in is actually what everybody's talking about everyone's go powder panting I don't find that and very enjoyable actually it's very few dimensional like for myself I I find many many other things explored that are much more rewarding than the powder run as weird sets now you ask you ask that's what I'm talking to ya I enjoy the yeah the techniques my interaction with my team yes interactions so you know continually driven me whatever seeing how much snow I can make flying here my early years Moses Ian or or in fact yeah just go down P and the highest pounds in the world and people don't know this about you but you're an accomplished P Mountaineer I feel like people don't normally there was no reason to talk about about there was never any reason to talk about it the old is yeah nobody cares yeah I mean that's what I eat and several friends would do we wanted to go you know be ourselves speak you know I learned early on that the area was a fun place to go play and enjoy things but you know the combines of the ski area was we wanted more young we started we started climbing we're here is Lawrence I mean it's the only way you get up there and one thing led to another and you become you know you reach further you you get more experience allowed to do more things other things and it was stuff that we did on our own time I never I very very little hello to experience be honest but I got a lot of times climbing in the hills and again nobody cared me and there's and bunch others you know there was my primary partner in my developmental years and yeah they didn't yep and now are we talking about our and we oh my god darling well yeah I'd like to try that someday I guess yeah pretty buddy let me show you this interaction [Music] yeah so I've had the pleasure being yeah being the first guy up there sometimes I'm really really proud of some of the work that I did in Japan yeah it goes completely unnoticed but I'm I did a lot of exploration in the where everybody and in Japan nowadays why everybody knows about you can marry there was I was the only only Westerner there and yeah so we go do our thing we go crawling around in the hills and the high coupling we ski back down and and it's wonderful and I'm glad everybody through the technology and knowledge yeah that people have found this enjoyable because honestly 15 20 years ago try to talk to somebody going for a walk they're like what you know and what now everybody oh I'd love to do that it's cool I'm I think it's neat I think it's great that we have a desire to be indoor wildlands I think they're way over protected I don't agree with you know with the expansion of Wilden and things that everybody thinks because it just needs to be accessible and the more they make it confined the more difficult to get Hughes to get to and I think people out there exploring and do the things in public demand hopefully you know hopefully the US Force and US mountains will become a little more steps one way or another and with more people out there learning and those people get more passionate our and our bigger advocates and they'll want to have an asset and we want to protect it but we also I want to use lol to use I think um the ski area permitted area they going to build anymore new me so if we want to evolve as a sport or as a desire the thresholds are gone in team we've got wide skis we've got grooming we've got meticulous clothes preparation there's no where nobody can we can't anymore it's not the old days work oh you know powder day me and my buddies brother because we knew how to ski the top of the mountain is not a place where most people everybody you know they're now so where does who's that dedicated person where does that passionate person go they got it means move away from here and that's where the threshold of gains still exists tell me a little bit about your dog track what happened no ya see I'm very passionate about it that it was really funny nobody ever cared and now everybody everyone to talk about that because you're being as I got quite expensive Himalayan Chris I've had to pleasure being I love I love it I love railing moguls up and down yo-yo with you yeah hey Matt here's all I got getting back the ski area tell me a little bit about your down-home tour and you know one of the big criticisms that people have of the industry is just becoming a rich white person bored and I feel like you're doing a lot of work out there to keep it accessible and to talk about that and bring any conversations big what ends up happening is we have this without a doubt we cannot you cannot argue that there are ski resorts in there skiers right unfortunately the ski resort has a lot larger voice in public perception and what have you then your normal ski area yes but the ski area is kind of where it goes all down and that's where people go on a daily basis it might be in their community it might be in there you know most possibilities their region their area and so yeah we only look at the ski resort you could easily say that the scene might be yeah misconception that a lot of people have that seems like as soon as you say ski resort then the first thing you remember the first thing year is condominium and then the excellent Golf Course which doesn't make sense at all because it's keen it's a dumb hick sport at the end of the dirt road why are we go golf first that's heavy anyways including all the great ski resort yeah but um no I was actually over in Germany and I met or I heard a North Carolina accident your tent and I couldn't believe that this guy was in tammany with this big ol mom you know mouthful of marble yes and I asked him where the heck I learned how to ski yeah and a tiger of North Carolina like what and so anyways that that left a big mark on me yeah another thing was I was doing a Provo in Minneapolis the kids came in and all their ski gear yeah and it's like wow you guys are all fired up all dressed up and they're like no we just got done skiing I was like women you win team where's the scene they're like well this year is just you know like 20 minutes down the road like what what about the same time you know back in the analog years I used to get a lot of fan mail and I I never got it from big tears so to speak particularly I was a little placed somewhere we're happy so anyways I was very curious and I me and my wife had been married we are actually even during the dating I finally was like I want to go to North Carolina and don't see she was in New York City but we hadn't gone to Texas yeah I said I was going to North Carolina you can hear the humor of scheming technique church group being North Florida I was like I got to go see this play yeah I'm just going tree end up going down there deep mountain and it was really fun we hadn't Eloise tell anybody we're comin down locked up a lot of tickets are skiing next thing you know is like wanted poster on the wall like yeah and it was really fun Billy Pittman after meeting these kids in Minneapolis is it I need to do something let me go ski with people on a team where they live with them yeah I don't want okay we all want to inspire something we all want to go live the heli dream we all want to go see this piece close I was like I want to go he was late and so we use our honeymoon for our first down home for now we keep 50 different series and 16 days didn't tell anybody we were coming this cruise around and since then we've done nine different one different areas and we just add cool to show up on a Tuesday yeah just some ski area and they're like but aren't you yes yes yeah why do you what are my wife like we're just doing it well you know some ski schools clínicas okay cool house clinic with you guys you know race teams trends oh hey let me get my race skis off you know nowadays each one you know you hook up with some crew there hey we're going to go do this no problem we grab my curious pieces it's really um it's my waiting to say thanks really adults of my way I come off a down home to earth and I'm I am one fired up cookie because I got so much passion driven back into my heart and yeah I come out of down home sewers yeah I had heads off for a happy dependence on whatever I'm using for motivation that day but no it's a down-home towards are cool I really love I get to see people see those people yes I get to be them for a day and hopefully they get to be me yes and then we love art we love as humans we love personal interaction with others we want to be around each other thankful jerry each other's experience live vicariously through each other and that's why we all share YouTube videos complaint twelve on the associate each other one way or another down home too early do that I am I heard you say one time that you didn't really think that you saw anybody doing anything commuting revolutionary these days you know from the hot-dogging days that was really like the huge curve where appeals have started to really change the judge would be as far as the future I mean look do you see any trends that are starting to kind of come about that that are really different anything unique going on in the industry that you really you know our piece by your curiosity I I find it interesting that the use is being exposed to the things that they're being exposed to at the ages that they're being exposed okay I find that interesting what do you mean by that backcountry yeah or ski racing for it I just I'm you know little kids know things we didn't know until we were teenagers or even beyond Thanks so I found that I find that interest that a little kid is aware of right like you know that somebody may have Steve that teak outside of town and I like how do you know that so I find that Canadians and others I bring that up is convinced we are so quick to steer trends in our industry we're so quick to like throw a freestyle scene because well we're not into that now we're all in the powder skiing or or raisin stupid right you know what I never and I think the fact is is that the next generations are very close to all these different things it'll be interesting to see what thing they actually adheres you our skinny skis coming back will you know social mogul skiing come back I don't know but I guess it left us super fun I want to meet mogul skiers we were following its spring we've been backcountry allsey where we've been getting out okay yeah there you go and reach the required art but again is that anywhere in the show no no no no so not to since that yeah I'm not saying Bank on bogus man child but I do find it as an energy with the next generations are exposed to some things that we've got to talk to the waistline like that find that inner half and the ability don't easily technology the program the openness widget kicks operating and as they found this out jumping right you know Ango now all the Rings people are thinking you know well we need every cell program yes as far as anything new happening I guess there are without gathers and techniques to do a building but I don't think that passionate yet but I think what I said I don't really happy I think you could take us up learner diamond tenon or Bobby burn and all the kids that are going to be coming up in the next five to ten years and all going to ski together would probably have a pretty good time because that's what I meant when I got a lot Stephanie it never ceases to amaze me driving up to the mountains every weekend with my daughter how many people are so committed you know you're frustrated in traffic and you're like oh how does everybody genius every weekend Elsa I'm every critic endorsement real Oh mr. danger passes you know where alumni everything was like seeing is outside too just like being hey winter but yes like the in rollerblading it's just like kids like me is right so there's nothing like he would say lads old associate is your Lord was great about things but so they is like nothing like that's why he is so cool yeah No so with everything that you've done in your life what Phil on the left for you what what are some of your goals I think you really want to accomplish you are like I don't know what's on the list I I take every opportunity they come my webcam whether is the last few years I've been real passionate about the longest bicycle race and because I had an opportunity and I took it led me down wonderful adventures up had some really really great adventures you know it was you know safari is because it came my way I'm a bit of a creature of habit so you know I love going back repeating old things too the pair's have record amounts of snow this year I look forward you're going back and doing some things that haven't been on behind 15th 1/2 the stuff that I did a long time ago I important go back and revisiting those those places again in a completely different era but yeah I just you know I clearly open well so I don't mind I don't know yeah I'm not sucking to run I'll go any direction whether it's from a distraction including maybe another you know other activity but in my own personal p.m. you know I took on this project to become a yes I level three yeah six seven years ago now I'm working on my examiner third cat I've you know I started down my road the road you go get it kind of funny I like I'm going back to school school didn't exist but you know I mean I've been going to the NBA guys programs these are things that kind of just unique frustrations I guess yeah I mean that opposed to go but uh yeah just I mean a wife travel the world team that really is my job as passion know he designed you couldn't have a great group project but it really all none of that would happen as long as if I don't see myself and go do this who the thing myself you know we still live we live in our chocolate we're basement man that's all went along this whole mess but what upset on that out there we have our truck we have a to save la Commedia I want to come water 50 is dead so thank you so much that's always but yeah thank you hope everybody has a great winter and yes go go enjoy it go enjoy the things that got you curious
