"Giants and Promises" - Pastor Touré Roberts

I want to talk today about about giants and promises and it's interesting even in the scripture all throughout scripture God made a lot of promises but there was always a giant in front of the promise but interestingly enough to God he doesn't even talk about the Giants it talks about the promise and I believe that God doesn't put the emphasis on the giant because the giant as it relates to the promise is irrelevant I want to draw your attention I started something on Wednesday night but the Lord said I wasn't done with it and I want to draw your attention to the passage that we looked at last week first John chapter 4 in the first four verses and it reads first word that comes out of the mouth of the writer of this exhortation is beloved it's almost as if he believes that we ought to believe about ourselves and believe about God a particular way if we understand or we are reminded of how God feels about us we are the beloved we are not random dots in God's universe we aren't people that God doesn't care about that God is not not you know acutely interested in we are the beloved of God there's not a depth that you can go to there's not a load that you can go to where God's love and his concern and his compassion is not on you you can run away from God all you want to but you can't run away from the love and the concern of God he's always going to be into you he's always going to be caring about you he's always gonna want the best for you and he's always going to be for you and you have to know that and it's his pursuit of you that ultimately gets you to surrender well what do you do with the God who you just continue to run away from you continue to rebel against him and you would have cut your ownself out he is still there calling you what do you do with the God who serenades you on your worst day and so he starts this exhortation off by saying beloved God loves you you will never not be the beloved I don't care how low you get I don't care how high you get God's gonna be very very interested in you because he loves you he has an investment in you and as long as you are breathing he's gonna be believing in you because he knows that one touch from him can change your life and will change your life so he's talking to the beloved just like I'm talking to the beloved I'm saying right now you are loved of God you might as well embrace it and it also means that the bets are still on concerning your life I don't care what you've been through I don't care what you've lost the bets are still on the promises are still on as long as you have breath it is still on concerning your life oh I feel heaven on that we're so quick to throw ourselves away we're so quick to put a period where God has put a comma I'm telling you right now it's still on and if you will muster up the strength to believe it and muster up the faith to press towards it like the promise is still there you will look up and you will be in the promise however the text says beloved do not believe every spirit do not believe every spirit now we get real super spiritual we get very hyper spiritual on this and when it says beloved believe every spirit we automatically go to demons okay hey that's applicable that works but but every spirit ain't a demon a spirit can be a disposition you ever met somebody that had a jealous spirit that ain't a demon that's a disposition hello somebody somebody I know what I'm talking somebody yeah a spirit is not simply a demon necessarily it's a disposition it's a thought it's an idea and it says beloved believe not every spirit you know what I'm doing I'm gonna read it all and then I'm gonna come back to that beloved do not believe every spirit but test the spirits whether they are of God because many false prophets have gone out into the world by this you know the Spirit of God every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God of course it is and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God of course and this is the spirit of the Antichrist going to talk about that because it ain't what you think which you have heard was coming and it is now already in the world but then it says you are of God little children and have overcome them because he who is in you is greater than he who was in the world so so he's ultimately trying to get you here but he starts off here in the sense that you understand who you are and you understand how great you are and you understand how powerful you are in the context of the world that's around you greater is He Who is in you than he who was in the world in other words you are bigger than your circumstance you are bigger than the world around you and a lot of times the Giants show up in order to prove that you're bigger than what you think you are let me just make that point I'm going to come back to that to that first verse when Giants show up in your life the giant is there because it's time for you to know how big you are what if the Giant is a term that you made up what the reason why God doesn't doesn't warn you about giants necessarily is because it might be a giant to you but it's not a giant to him because of how God sees you I didn't stay right there maybe the giant is a figment of your imagination because a giant has to be relative to something in order for it to be a giant that has to be relative to something and maybe it's relative to how you are presently perceiving yourself in numbers chapter 13 it talks about when the children of Israel went out to spy out the land and they came back it says that that 10 of the spies came back and here's what they said he said that they were giant that we were like grasshoppers in the eyes of the Giants and we were grasshoppers in our own eyes so what if the giant was not there to tower over you but the giant was there to do two things one is to reveal to you that you're thinking too small of yourself and ultimately to get you to a place to where you realize that you were bigger than it david was smaller than Goliath in stature in physical stature but he was towering over Goliath in spirit so maybe Giants show up in your life because God has to through situation and circumstance show you how big you really are maybe you are the Giant and he and the thing is the grasshopper are you hearing what I'm saying God will use big things to show you how big you are but you have to see yourself right and there's some people in here right now and you've been faced by giants but the giant is only there to prove to you that you're bigger than it how else are you gonna size yourself up in life how else is God going to show you how big you are how big you are unless he put something big in your way and give you the power to overcome it and it's interesting when David conquers Goliath Goliath he can no longer use his old sword oh yeah I am ready oh yeah yeah Sookie so so one of the things that that I'm all over the place but I'm right in the spirit so one of the things about Goliath one of the things that it talks about Goliath is that he had this huge sword this huge sword like like like had never been seen before and David you know the story David conquers Goliath and now he takes his sword David is no longer satisfied with the sword that he used in the last season now because he's conquered this giant he's looking at his old sword and he's saying this is too small for Who I am what if the Giants are placed in your life out of necessity because you will still be swinging a sword that's too small for you until you conquer the Giant and get it sorted the Giant is there to show you who you are so ultimately the writer in this text is trying to get us to the place to where we can say greater is he who was in me than he was in the world and if the he is in me that is a part of me so I'm ultimately saying greater am I then the world around me but to get to that place he starts off by saying beloved do not believe every spirit but test the spirits whether they are of God there's a word in the New Testament a word in the book of Acts and it describes this gentleman by the name of Simeon and the word that that describes it that says that he was a devout man right and if you break down that word devout in the greek the word devout literally means to take well to take well to take well to receive well it's powerful so when you think about your life every single day every day you walk into life and spirits thoughts ideas dispositions are coming at you every day and they're coming from all sorts of places they're coming from within yourself they're coming from outside yourself they're coming from people thoughts ideas dispositions and spirits trying to get into your spirit and you must learn to be devout because you are the sum total of the spirits that you receive and believe hmm take my time with this right now you your life your actions what you do and what you are afraid to do is the direct result of the spirits that you have been introduced to and have ultimately believed and it's not always the other spirit of fear you have jealous spirits in this piece all sorts of spirits and so you're gonna have to learn to be devout and say I only have one of me and I am a spiritual being so I have to make certain that the spirits that I take I take well some stuff comes at you are you just gonna let it pass right by here because I am only Who I am spiritually says beloved do not believe every spirit but test the spirits whether they are of God now how do you know whether or not a spirit is of God there's an obvious way that the next verse talks about but let's not go to the obvious because it's not the obvious that you have to be worried about it's those that are not so obvious so how do I know if a spirit that's coming at me that's trying to get in me that's trying to control my thinking that's trying to control my behavior how do I know whether or not it's of God it'll have the characteristics of God it will inspire faith it will inspire you it will affirm you in what got promised think about this for a second how can God make you a promise and then send in a different spirit that makes you believe that it ain't gonna happen he's one spirit don't believe every spirit but test the spirits then that's interesting because that there is a process between a spirit a thought and idea a disposition engaging you and you believing it and so you have to be very very careful with your spirit because the process goes the spirit is introduced to you it comes at you you receive it and then you ultimately believe it and once you believe it it becomes your reality so you can't keep lying spirits false spirits from coming at you but you can determine that you are not going to accept it receive it or believe it because what you believe will become your reality so you gotta test every spirit I fill this for some of you God is maturing you he's maturing you because there was an anointing on your life with him I talk about this a second but but there's an anointing on you but in order for you to walk in that anointing you gonna have to believe right I don't care what your mama believes I don't care what your grandmama believes I don't care what your what I don't care anything you are going to have to believe right in order to walk in the fullness of the anointing that's on your life and it is the most powerful version of you and you gotta take control over what you let in Jesus can't have faith for you Jesus can't think right and believe right for you you are gonna have to take ownership over your spirit and in taking ownership over your spirit you have to be committed to not believe every spirit that comes at you every disposition that comes at you you get jealous you got to reject it just reject it right there because jealousy will never help you I have to have to do something with that I see I see I see jealousy will never hurt you because it and it's really foolish when you think about it because of you're jealous that means that there's something that you want that you are appreciating but you hate it because it ain't on you hmm how can you want it on the one hand but hate it on the other hand so jealous people curse the very thing that they want if I see it on you I get excited because I get excited simply because I see it and the more that I see it the more that it becomes tangible and the closer I am to it if I see it on you I'm just one step away from it I'm not gonna curse what I'm after can't believe every spirit if a spirit comes at you and lies to you about your future spirit comes at you and makes you afraid a spirit comes at you and gives you great anxiety a spirit comes at you and tells you you're gonna fail that's how you know it's not God what show me in the Bible where God says you're gonna fail the only thing close to that is when God says I will never fail you nor forsake you there's no place in scripture where God goes to his child and says you know what you Sol it's not gonna work out for you you can't hit don't you judge me you religious little you can't believe every spirit beloved do not believe every spirit but test the spirits test every spirit value your spirit enough to test every disposition that comes at you whether or not it's of God and if it's not of God you reject it since because many false prophets have gone out into the world there's many false ideas many things that are there to discourage you let's keep going it says by this you know the Spirit of God and this is simple every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God duh and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God now let me tell you well it says and this is the spirit of Antichrist so here's what Antichrist is I know we get also we get all poltergeist about it we get all the exorcists about it here at the bottom line if you break those words down first of all the term Christ means anointed it means anointed Jesus Christ means jesus the anointed the anointed what the anointed son of God the Anointed Messiah The Anointed Lamb of God right the irreversible irrefutable Lamb of God who came to take away the sins of the world so it was Jesus's anointing are we together okay so it says here and this is the spirit of Antichrist it says this and that word anti literally means to oppose the opposition so here it says the spirit of Antichrist does this it opposes what is anointed it opposes an anointing so when the enemy wants to oppose your anointing it sends spirits that contradict who you are and what you have so the spirit of fear is the spirit of Antichrist because it opposes your anointing I feel this thing so strong in my spirit I wish I can articulate it the way I see it see you have an anointing you have a very very very powerful anointing and it's an anointing that will allow you to stand up to anything in life and win you ain't ready you ain't ready you ain't ready you ain't ready they'll go to verse 4 real quick now watch this it says you are of God little children and have overcome them because he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world so the spirit of Antichrist or the spirit that opposes your anointing are these spirits that come at you every day because if you don't believe you are anointed you won't be anointed because you're anointed by faith and if I can get you to disbelieve what I place on the inside of you I have got you then you'll be calling aunts Giants when you are the Giants that's why you can't believe every spirit you know I got come here and I watch this worshipping and I just see people I'm just thinking you know and I love everybody I know we're all growing I'm going everybody's growing but the number one thing I feel is they have no idea who they are and that's any place I go and I look in the mirror and I say the same thing about myself we have no idea who we are and that's why we keep coming into this atmosphere because the true atmosphere of God ought to tell you who you are it'll let you know that there's an anointing on your life and nothing think nothing can get in your way nothing can stop you God told Joshua every place that the sole of your feet shall tread upon I am giving you as I was with Moses so I'll be with you you can do the same thing in my name that Moses and Joshua did but you've got to believe it I'm with you I'll never fail you nor forsake you and there is an anointing on your life yes there is that's why you're alive and nothing can stand in your way and nothing you go through and destroy you because the anointing can't be destroyed the anointing breaks yo you are a yoke breaker that's who you are and the giant brings it out of you you need the giant that China pushing up against you you are pushing up against Ed they didn't see the giant until it was time to step in to the promised land they don't even see Giants until they progress oh I feel god they didn't see no Giants when they were slaves in Egypt they didn't see any Giants in the wilderness it was when they were stepping into their season it was when they were stepping into a new dimension it was when they expanded and increased and was stepping in to their testimonies that the Giants showed up but God doesn't even mention the Giants he mentions the promise why because one will be there forever the other is just temporary God doesn't talk about the temporary he talks about the eternal these giants that you see today you're not gonna see again forever the word says that greater is He Who is in you than he who was in the world the Greek word was translate later a greater can also be translated larger larger is he who was in you the world ain't bigger than you you're bigger than the world and when the world feels like it's closing in on you you are really closing in on it you are really pressing into it for some of you prophetically when you're getting ready to step into a new dimension sometimes you got to switch up your fighting style here here change up your fighting style scripture says David said the God he teaches my hands to war that's not a one-time thing see the way you fight in one dimension oftentimes is different from the way you have to fight in the next dimension and so sometimes the pressure will get so real but you have to pause and get in the presence of God and ask God how do I fight in this season sometimes the greatest way to fight is the rest oh you and you you you do you you and you you're you you know sometimes in some seasons you sleep all day and fight all night but you have to be still enough in the presence of God to allow him to speak to you and to teach you how to war in this big season here's the last thing I'm gonna say now he says you are of God little children he says because and you have overcome them by the way in the anointing you've actually already overcome that's why I try to get you to the anointing because the anointing has already overcome Jesus John 16:33 and this life you'll have tribulation but be of good cheer I have overcome the world in this life you will have to relation but be of good cheer for I have overcome the world in this life you will have tribulation but be of one who is the odd greater is He Who is in you then he who is in the world you have overcome them why because I have overcome the world are you catching it it's in you it's in you it's in you it's in you but here's the thing it says that it's in you it doesn't say that God's gonna do it for you did around the 818 just about done it doesn't say he's gonna do it for you it says that it has been done in him and placed in you to do for you I'm say it again he doesn't say I'm gonna do it for you it's been done in him and that victory is placed in you to do for you do to run anything it says and you shall remember the Lord your God for it is he who gives you the power better translation ability and you shall remember the Lord your God for it is he who gives you the ability to get wealth that he may establish his covenant or promise which he swore to your father's as it is this day here's what it's saying is saying remember God think about God God is a part of this but understand how God is a part of this it doesn't say you shall remember your God for it is he who gives you wealth and sometimes when we're remembering God we're remembering God in a way Oh God's gonna do it for me no no no it says you shall remember your Lord the Lord your God so when you ponder God you don't ponder God as the one who does it for you you ponder God as the one who has put the ability in you to do it for yourself so that he can establish what he has promised you hmm okay so so we've got two things working we've got what God promised three things we've got what God promised what he has put in you an ability that he's placed in you and the third dynamic is the most important dynamic and it brings it all together and that is you doing it and so we sit around and we save God doesn't do it it ain't gonna get done well what if he already did it and it being done and all the promises that he made to you have to do with you taking the abilities that he's placed on the inside of you and slaying your jolyon's oh I feel heaven God gives you ability not it he gives you the ability to do it that's why you can't just sit in your bed and expect checkers to come in the mail craziest thing in the world you know you tell me the Lord called you off your job will see you broke in six months you were a liar real quiet I just give people here's the Holy Spirit just telling me to leave my job and he will do that sometimes and there steps of faith but I better see something pretty quick when he showed me something quick I'll go with you and stuff I look I've done all that I've stepped out on faith but I'd never lacked in doing so there were some scary moments but he came through right in time so that there was no longer in his scary moments but don't come to me talking about God's gun just know he's not just gonna do nothing he's gonna put ability in you and you have to do it and so as I close I want to make it emphatically clear that God wants you to walk in your anointing that no giant no promise and the truth of the matter is I've come to a place in my life where I realize that nothing that I don't have to fight for is worth it you didn't get that you just keep living long enough you realize that if I ain't got to fight for it it's not worth it and if I don't have to fight for it it's not my best because manifests and your best always necessitates a fight if it's easy it ain't God that's how you test the spirit if it's giving you the easy way out that ain't it it's always taller than you always bigger than you I want you to stand with me I want you to stand if you don't have to leave don't leave I want to pray for you now I want to pray some serious things if you're here man you feel like life has just been it's been Giants all around you and you know it you just feel like you felt like a small fish in a big pond not realizing that you're actually a big fish in a small pond but you didn't know it if you're hearing that message we're speaking right to you I want you to come and meet me here at this altar right now if you know that you are being sized up for greater things just meet me right here come on we ought to celebrate what God is doing in this house right now God is expanding you God is increasing you I know it I know it I know it he's expanding you greater is He Who is in you then he who was in the world your larger your bigger than it it's not a giant who made up that term anyway the giant is relative the giant says that you're bigger than me and the word says no nothing is greater is he larger is he who was in you the giant just brings it out and the sword that you were afraid of it's gonna be your your standard-issue you're gonna use it standard a the very thing God never talked about the giant he talked about the promise why because a giant was irrelevant the giant was temporary God's not gonna waste your cerebral capacity on temporary stuff the promise is what you ought to be looking at and you he wants you to see him in such a way that if he is the one who promised you don't even care about anything that that comes in your way on your way to it because it doesn't even matter it just becomes a distract get out of my way there's a promise that I'm pressing into that's why he doesn't emphasize the Giants God didn't say no you know there gonna be some Giants and they're real big and you can't do anything he just says I promised you a land go get it go get it go get it and even though it's there you gotta walk into it even though it's there it's not just gonna magically appear on your doorstep you got to go and fight and just know that the battle has already been fought in one when the children of Israel marched around Jericho they didn't have to fight all they had to do was obey and praise obey and praise go and praise and the walls just came down the walls were ordained to come down there Giants and walls that are already ordained to come down all you've got to do is go up to him and praise your God praise your God and watch them fall it's interesting the scripture says o magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt his name together I like that o magnify the Lord in other words make God bigger than the giant that you're facing magnify him with your praise praise that giant down if you hear you don't know the Lord and you want to know the Lord I want you to come and meet me at the altar as well if you're here let me tell you something right now it is a love relationship it is a love affair you you will just you you you just get rid of all your other false lovers when you recognize and wonder and just just just are in awe of how wonderful God Almighty is and you can know him I was nine years old I came to know to the alternate Church I didn't know much about him but but I met him just simply I just felt man I need God I mean my mom took me to church that was nine years old and and mom wasn't even saved at that moment but she took me to church because she she was raised in a young man in a single-parent home and one of the toughest neighborhoods in the country and she said you know what I just got to get him to God I'm sitting there in the pews at nine years old I talked about in the book but I'm in pews nine years old and the preacher just talks about you know getting to know God and there was something a minute to say yeah I need that and I'm like mom let's go and she's like yeah we better and me and mom both come down to the altar and get saved and from that moment on yes I've evolved in my understanding of God and yes you know you keep learning but from that moment on I knew that God was real because he did something in my heart and from that moment forward I always knew that I wasn't alone and if you're here and you haven't had that encounter yet you haven't had that experience yet I'm saying I'm gonna pray for you Sarah's on preview and some powerful it's gonna happen and you're gonna leave out of here and you're not gonna have life figured out I'm not gonna sell you that lie but you're gonna know that you're not by yourself and you're gonna know that you got somebody to call on and you're gonna know that he'll come through for you and then you'll begin this journey that will be filled with testimonies and accounts and stories about how God brought you through if that's you and you don't have that yet I want you to come and meet me at the altar right now don't worry about who's looking you just come that's the second point is invitation if that's you you can be like I was I don't care how old you are I don't care how young you are if you're here and you're hearing this message is for you and the third point is invitation is if you're here and it's just time to come home it's time to come home fully yeah you're home because you're here but it's time to say God you know what man I wanna I wanna I want to really do this thing with you I'm in and I'm out and my life reflects the fact that I'm in and I'm out and I just really want to just step in and I don't know what its gonna look like and I don't have all the answers but I just know my spirit just knows that it needs to do that if that's you I want you to come here and meet me at all they just need to come home you just need to come home you feel safer than you felt in a long time things are making sense all of a sudden you feel like you have victory in life and God is saying just happen to that maybe you're visiting for the first time you've been searched hopping and going from place to place and for the first time man this is home I want to be a part of that movement I want to be under that covering I want to be under that word I want to be amongst those people if that's you I just want you to come and meet me here at the altar right now I tell you to be bold enough to make a necessary change in your life that I promise you won't regret if that's you I just want you to come I just want you to come thank you lord hmm you can't do this by yourself and it's people in here and you've been real tough I know you're tough but you ain't that tough so the reason why that scripture highlights Christ and highlights the confession of Christ is because that's the only way you get anointed so you want you want the anointing that Christ had on him because that's the anointing that overcomes the world and that's the people in it right now I feel it so strongly this last thing I must say that you've been you a fighter you are a fighter and you're strong and in your own strength and you own so not even because of Christ but in your own mind you're like man I'm a survivor I get that there's a difference between mind over matter and the anointing of Christ mind over matter can't break a yoke and so mind over matter you become like a like a hamster on the wheel you keep spinning right that's mind over matter that's mental capacity that's that's positivity you keep spinning but you ain't going nowhere because the anointing is what breaks to yoke it's the anointing that breaks a yoke and sits the hamster free I ain't calling you a hamster I'm just saying come and taste and see that the Lord is good the God's not gonna gonna lock you down Christ is not gonna lock you down make you dumb and unspiritual right concept faith faith in Christ is for weak people know it ain't truth of the matter is everybody's weaker than they think for one but it's not for weak people is with people strong enough to say I ain't got it all but in him I could do all things I just felt that rows fall there someone needs to give their heart to someone who needs to surrender say I am strong I am strong but I ain't as strong as Christ I need to give my heart to who am I talking to just come to meet me at this altar right now just just come and meet me at the altar right now we love you you know the service is over we're past the time but I love you and I want to make sure that you are solid that you is solid in this thing thank you Jesus come on brownie father if you would please give us a fresh dose of your anointing we offer you these Souls Oh God and we're asking you to cleanse them like never before may they come to know your spirit Oh God release them from the spirits that have held them back in and procrastinated them from their destiny oh god or threaten to deter them oh god I ask that you release those spirits right now in the name of Jesus so that they may come to understand the fullness of your love the fullness of walking with you teach these hands how to war Oh God how to stand up against the things that are hurting us the things that are breaking us and discouraging us and declare the work of the Lord is still taking place even in the midst of the storm Oh God teach us to stand strong in the midst of our battles Oh God to understand that there is something happening in us that we need even in the midst of the breaking that we need the struggle Oh God so that you can shine brighter in us Oh God awaken the you inside of us awaken to you inside of us like never before less of us Oh God and more of you O God until it consumes our every action until it consumes our every thought oh God exchange our ways for your ways o God order these footsteps like never before Oh God teach us to understand our capacity is greater than we think that we are not at our breaking point Oh God but rather we are at our breakthrough moment Oh God and because we are trusting in your breakthrough we're releasing those things that once held us back Oh God and we're reaching towards the mark help us I understand that we have been chosen that we have been called in that nothing can keep us from that unless we allow it and so right now at this moment we surrender anything that hinders us from understanding the fullness of who you are anything that is chaining us down oh god were asking you for a supernatural breakthrough that we can say goodbye to lovers and goodbye to drinks and divided things that that distracted us so that we may see you clearly like never before open our eyes to your kingdom Oh God open our eyes to our own jointing Oh Lord open our eyes so that we may overflow with grace and mercy and that we could start a revolution in this city Oh God that sets the captives free like never before oh God that we can teach others that there is no weapon strong enough that could prosper against you if you would only surrender Oh God and so like never before we surrender our hearts we surrender our fears oh God we surrender our disappointments and our discouragement we surrender it all and in exchange we ask for more of your spirit anything that is anti our anointing we release it even if we were once in love with those things anything that is anti our anointing we release it even if that thing was a paycheck Oh God anything that is anti word nor thing we were leasing right now so that we can have our self esteem back Oh God so that we can have our confidence back Oh God so that we can understand that we've been made to walk on water Oh God and there is no wave that will overcome us Oh God and there is no shirt that could come up against us oh god for you have called us to greater things Oh God and we will do those great exploits and nothing shall stop us we are in your army oh god help us to remember that when we go back into our worlds and back into our fields and Industry and offices that we are yet chosen that the hand of God that the Spirit of God exists with nice and there is no job no need no desire that is greater than your spirit Oh God so if you have to take it away take it and if we have to cry tears in the process let us cry so that we may reap Oh God blessing that we never thought we could imagine Oh God so that we can read back parts of ourself that we thought was lost forever Oh God restore your people as only you can do restore their innocence Oh God to restore their focus Oh God restore their fire oh god stir up that gives them your people Oh God that they may come to know that they got more talented than they imagine that they don't have to just be on the camera that they can be behind the camera and at the business tables and they can be where the decisions are made of God for you have created us to do incredible things and we will not get to this moment and let a giant scare us away with our stone and our slingshot we'll give this
