all right so I haven't been doing this whole car review thing that long like you know a couple years maybe 40 50 cars I've reviewed over the last couple years so you know I'm still going by my own experiences and my own feelings on things but it does feel good to be right about something okay one of the things I've been saying this whole time you've probably remembered this is there are certain types of cars that are best with today's Tech to be going electric the ones that are already big already heavy but already have the same sets of advantages and this car has uh has proved me right and I'm glad to be proven right okay there is already a gas version of the electric sorry there's already a gas version of The Genesis gv70 this is the electric version and it's better than the gas version and it's for all the same reasons that I've been saying um also if this video ends abruptly it was them I'm just going to put it out there in case it does uh anyway so I got a chance to drive the gv70 for the past couple days and I feel like it's pretty obvious that it's proven me right all the things that you want about an electric car or about a luxury car which I think Genesis pretty clearly is aiming to be uh are even more so with the electric version let's start from the front because there's something crazy actually right at the front so I've already shown you the gv60 this is a slightly bigger gv70 they've also got a gv80 but this is right kind of in the middle it's pretty big it's a crossover it's a popular shape and size vehicle and uh I got it home the other day and I was trying to figure out where to charge it and I walked all the way around the entire vehicle trying to find where the charge port was there's no button in the car to open it so I'm looking around the back I couldn't find it here it wasn't in the headlights it wasn't like in some weird middle port and I walked around all the way the whole part there's no like gas cap looking thing where is the where's the charge port on this car turns out it's right there yeah it's it's a hidden charge port that pops out of the grill right here and that's where you plug it in so that's the first kind of interesting thing is Genesis has actually thought a little bit about a lot of these little extra Touches for their electric version of the gv70 and it just hides and closes up just like that which is pretty cool this whole Grill here is plastic it doesn't have to be a real Grill so they've closed that up and really all the air just goes in the bottom the electric version looks to slip through the air and be as aerodynamic as possible and I think the shape is is pretty standard it's not too crazy it doesn't have any sharp angles or big swooping lines or whatever but it does have a little bit of a sloping back and it looks normal the electric car fundamentals are okay but overall as a package the whole car is actually really solid it's it's almost reminds me of the lyric and being a little bit underrated maybe for what it is so for 65 $75,000 gv70 is all-wheel drive fully electric charges at 350 KW if you can find the right charger and has 236 M of range that's the weak point 236 not great even worse in the winter but it's pretty quick and you can feel it and I I'll talk more about the quickness being a little unnecessary in a second but it's a Genesis obviously you know what it looks like already but you you want to be inside of Genesis so let's get inside the Genesis so I've I've reviewed Hyundai and key is and others this is the uh the upscale nice luxurious soft feeling version and the whole point of getting the Genesis is this is more comfortable so electric cars quiet this is way quieter than the gas version electric cars smooth this is smoother both accelerating and decelerating than the gas version you've got these paddle shifters here that they've done for a little bit that's how you can change the amount of re gen and actually if I turn the car on real quick to show you this so once the car's on it'll actually default it'll show you over here you're on level three regen which is actually what it does every time you turn the car on it doesn't remember your last decision but if you hit this paddle over here on the left you bump up to level four which is full one pedal driving it says Max or I pedal and then when you hit the right pedal you can bump all the way down to no regen at all and it coasts like a regular car so you have that flexibility which is cool I actually like the third level but I'll leave it at Max for my best efficiency and then in here you've also just got a whole bunch of solid tech there is a screen over here great it's actually asking to update the software which I'm happy this is getting over the air updates then there's a screen back here behind the steering wheel and there's a little HUD which is hard to get on a smartphone camera but hey there you go shows you whatever you need and then a whole bunch of buttons on this big soft steering wheel here and overall really good materials a lot of the VIS ible materials up here are leather it's got this black and white interior contrast look here which I honestly like uh and then over here in the center you've got the typical Genesis stuff it's not the crystal ball but it is still twist this to change into gear twist this to go drive hit the middle to go to Park Auto hold is on by default this is how you navigate the screen up here unless you want to actually use it like a touchcreen which it also is carplay and Android auto but both wired so you will have to plug in your phone right here there's no Wireless carplay and there's a cheat charger to pop your phone in there and hide it if you want you obviously can switch between Drive modes here and if you flip that switch you'll see sport or comfort you kind of only need two Drive modes the go fast have fun kind and the relax and have fun this has also eco mode if you want and a my customized version but I found myself just basically using these two modes and you can't really tell on camera but this is also a 3D gauge or dash cluster here it's got this little sensor cluster up front that's looking at my eyes and it gives it kind of this 3D look kind of like physical gauges even though it's all screens I like what they're trying to do but I don't like everything about it I don't love that this one over here as you're driving goes counterclockwise instead of clockwise as you add power but it is very easily readable and there you can see I have 62 mil of range left with about a quarter of my battery so not great but look there's a boost button so this happens to be a pretty quick EV and when you hit the Boost button it literally turns all the lights in the interior red and for 10 seconds gives you even more maximum power for acceleration and it hauls in a straight line it really hauls but I got to say the Genesis this one's not about driving this one's not about sporty driving anyway this is very much more about being comfortable chilling being Comfort mode wafting over potholes the suspension is very soft you don't drive this thing at like 8 9 10/10 for fun you just kind of like drive around cities and commute and chill in Comfort mode most of the time and that's what it's best at that's when it's quiet that's when it absorbs all the bumps it's pretty good I'm in the back seat now now which is you know you got some nice H controls down here heated seats in the back heated and cooled in the front it's a pretty nice view right there uh pretty soft headrests and I will say decent leg room I think I was expecting more you know it has these little cutouts in the back of the seats but I guess the 80 would be even bigger but I I was expecting a little bit more foot room in the back but I could be okay back here for a little bit obviously this is you know kids are going to be back here half the time you can put car seats back here half the time that's totally fine but these seats can recline if you want and there's a whole big glass roof up top which can open and also does have a motorized shade which can do a lot oh also I forgot to show you sunglass holder not a lot of cars I review how a sunglasses holder but this one does you've also got this little manual shade thing if you're into that some people are actually turns out very into that but there you go so again as I've been saying the fundamentals of this car are pretty solid nothing to write home about but very respectable the trunk has a kind of a unique opening here right at the base of this rear windshield washer is the button to press to open it which I thought was kind of cool and then you get a really good sized trunk obviously you've got this slightly high floor but if you pop that open real quick little bit of sub trunk a little bit of charging accessories that's great to see and then if you want to close it you you got the power closing LIF gate with the buttons up here all of that is good and I actually do think I mean I haven't talked about it much but I think the Genesis aesthetic is pretty modern without being the classic like extreme modern it's not quite a full light bar it's not quite the front light bar but it looks pretty good in general but let me show you my favorite part this has nothing to do with fundamentals this is just kind of random so these are the seat controls on the gv70 there's a pretty good amount of them but when you get in and you sit down sometimes it can feel a little bit overwhelming to not see that stuff down there and not know exactly what you're getting into but what's really cool is they're all touch sensitive so if I just touch the back of one of the buttons the screen up here shows me what I'm about to change before I even change it so if I hit a different button here okay this one's going to move me forward and back this one is going to extend the seat and then I actually pull it and what do you know it extends the seat so before I even start changing things and I just touch the button it tells you what you're going to change I think that's nice that's actually one of my favorite features of this car otherwise the tech of living with and driving this car is really not too crazy I mean if you don't have Android auto or apple carplay and you want to use this built-in navigation it's okay it's decently responsive there's Maps there's car controls C controls it's fine it works it shows you how much electricity is being used at any given point by the the drivetrain and then the other parts of the car like air conditioning and lights fine uh speaker sound pretty good then this is the H controls and it is definitely mostly touchscreen but it's kind of a combo like your temperature control is here and that's easy and your vents are physical real vents but then when you want to change fan speed this is like a small hoptic press area on the touch screen if you want to change like these are pretty small buttons These are nice big buttons I like that these are kind of hard to get like while driving going to cool your seat or change to a different level of cooled seat I don't know it's pretty small I kind of rest my hand on here and press the buttons like this but that's a little bit small I think this is smart having Auto or off real quick and then changing settings real quick that's great but yeah kind of a kind of an interesting combo there of controlling things but yeah thanks to physical vents thanks to these you know Big Bright gauges over here even if they are 3D and I don't care about that part very usable and you want to know the weirdest random quirky bit in the software that I found so okay right now I have my iPhone paired to it uh via Bluetooth so it's not Android auto or apple carplay but it's Bluetooth and let's say I want to voice text or speech to text with this when I hit that button it thinks that I'm calling myself for some reason I'm just doing speech to text and it's working fine on my pH phone but I think so I'm calling myself that's kind of weird so yeah gv70 electric good electric crossover good fundamentals solid price the only thing I would change about it is I would trade a little bit of the performance in a straight line and those powerful Motors I would trade that for more range I think that would make this probably the best rounded most logical version of itself I like the hidden charge port I think yeah if you could go you know boost Mode's a little bit less horsepower but you get 280 or 90 miles of range instead of 236 then we're talking then I feel like I could be okay with recommending this to people but until then yeah it's the best version of the gv70
