Shalom and welcome to via hafte yes Ryan a Hebrew phrase which means you shall love Israel we hope you'll stay with us for the next 30 minutes as our teacher dr. Baruch shares his expose Ettore teaching from the Bible dr. Baruch is the senior lecturer at the Zahra Avraham Institute based in Israel although all courses are taught in Hebrew at the Institute dr. Baruch is pleased to share this weekly address in English to find out more about our work in Israel please visit us on the web at love Israel you are G that's one word love Israel dot o RG now here's Baruch with today's lesson we know that our God is perfect and because he is perfect he cannot accept that which is imperfect so does that mean that he rejects us because we are far from perfect no the purpose of God's redemption is to take imperfect people and make them acceptable in his sight and here again all of that comes about through redemption and when we look on in the book of Genesis we see redemption being taught from many different perspectives and that's certainly the case as we move to conclude chapter 3 so take out your Bible and look with me to the book of Genesis in chapter 3 now last week we saw that Adam vltava they sinned in that garden by eating from the tree that God commanded them clearly do not eat from that tree and one of the outcomes was this that they did not want fellowship with God God who is a loving compassionate merciful God God who had placed them in a place of perfection God who had provided everything for their needs this one who was perfect they did not want any relationship with and with him because of their imperfection and they hid from God and you'll notice that after their eyes were open they knew their shame that is their nakedness and they sewed fig leaves together in order to cover up their nakedness that is to cover their shame now that point is vital that we remember it because once God did speak to man and man confess that sin and we saw last week as well the punishments the outcome the consequences of that first sin at the very end of our study God did something God made for them a covering that is to say the fig Leafs that they made were inadequate God rejected that that is to say that man's attempt to hide his shame to deal with the sin is always imperfect and what did God do he made from skins animal skins a covering and this covering this word in Hebrew is related to atonement now it does not appear in the book of Genesis in this section but we see clearly that we're talking it's a reference to a covering and the best way for us to understand what atonement is all about is a covering but this covering only keeps God's judgment that is his eternal consequences of sin which is death only at a distance for a while it does not do what Redemption does so in the passage of Scripture that we're going to look at God is going to reveal to us his provision he is going to give us hints and clues that's going to point to the work of Messiah that brings about not just a temp Redemption but as Peter tells us an eternal Redemption well with that said look with me to the end of Genesis in Chapter three we're going to begin where we left off last week in verse 22 man has been confronted with her sin we see that God has spoken to them his judgments and now look at verse 22 and the Lord God said Behold the man was as one of us now who was God speaking about well he could be speaking in a a pluralistic manner speaking about God the Father Son and Holy Spirit or he could be speaking beyond that to the heavenly realm as well and what does he say how can we rightly understand that look again verse 22 for God said behold man was as one from us what does it mean he's one from us literally like one of us he knows good and evil now here's what we see in this passage it's teaching us that at this time because they ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil their eyes were open the text expressively says this and they had a consciousness of sin that fact is important a consciousness of sin sin was awakened in their being and because of that they are now in bondage to sin and the only solution is redemption and God is going to work out redemption but not at this time so God is speaking and he says man now understands his consciousness of sin he knows good and evil and now and this is emphatic he says now less he stretches forth his hand and he shall take also from the tree of life now throughout this passage we see that when God initially spoke about the middle of the garden he said that there's a tree of life and a tree of the knowledge of good and evil and God only commanded them don't take from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil now what would that imply it would imply that the tree of life was permissible but they did not choose life they acted based upon the words and the enticement of Satan and therefore they chose to be like God but in a prideful manner they wanted to know good and evil now if were wise we don't want to know what's not God's will we want to know what is pleasing to him and remember that that's going to be very important before we conclude to see me so the two things if we're going to rightly understand where God is taking us in this next section we need to remember that the fig leaves that Adam they have a sewed to cover up their shame was inadequate insufficient imperfect secondly God did not want man at this time to take from the tree of life why well look again the next verse we read here and now less he will stretch forth his hand and he should take also from the tree of life and eat and live forever now many people would say well that's a good thing if he took from that tree of life he wouldn't die that's true he would be preserved for eternity but in the wrong state without redemption he would be aware of sin and this awareness of sin is a sin tendency it is a bondage to sin it is rejecting good and choosing evil that's his new nature so God did not want that condition for man to be preserved eternity it would be a violation of God's holiness of his perfection see sin should not live eternally but that which is good and pleasing that which reflects the character that manifested glory of God that should endure forever so in this passage God is saying here that he does not want man who now is in bondage to sin who has that sin awareness that sin tendency to be preserved in that condition now look at the next verse what does it say here verse 23 and God did something he stretched forth his hand and what did he do well literally says and he sent him that is the Lord God sent him and to him here would be Adam both Adan the man and Adam the woman Chava he sent him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground and remember the word here is Sodom ah the word Adama means ground or soil and he says that man came Adam hooba may Adama which means man came from dirt he came from the ground so now man is being sent out of the garden a garden of perfection where God's provision is and now man is going to have to work the ground and this is a play on words man is going to have to deal with himself man is going to work in his own existence and what else do we read in the same passage he says he's going to work the ground from which he was taken from there verse 24 now he sent him out but notice it gets stronger in verse 24 we read and he banished it's the word liquorice it's the same word for divorce to be sent away but it's stronger than the word lua which appears in the previous verses it's more emphatic it's casting with with force someone outside away so he was cast that his man was cast by God outside and notice what it says it literally and he cast the man and he and the next word it's very important that we see that's it's in the hill in the Hebrew that grammatical construction why is that important because God caused him to dwell the hill is a causative stand so what God does not want us in this word to conclude is that man just went out from the garden and he determined where he was going to live that's not what the Texas the text says that God caused him to dwell and where did he call caused him to dwell it says from the east of the Garden of Eden now why is that important because East is synonymous with judgment if we look throughout the scripture we will find that there's a connection from the east is where God's judgment begins to be manifested so knowing the scripture is a hint it is a hermeneutical a to let us know that man is heading for judgment judgment is coming now if you know that what should you do if you know judgment is approaching we should try attempt seek pray for revelation in regard to overcoming judgment and here's the biblical truth when someone has faith in the reality of God's judgment it is going to drive him to seek forgiveness it is going to cause her to want to find out is there any way for me to avoid this judgment and believing that there is a merciful God now right here you find God's mercy why do I say that because God could have killed him it could have been the end of humanity but the fact that God banished man from the garden and man still had in existence and God still was going to move we see an element of his mercy his grace God is going to be part of man working with himself in order to find redemption and here's another biblical truth we see this for example one of the clearest proof texts of this is found in the book of Proverbs from chapter 8 and there it says if you seek God earnestly some say if you seek Him first the word here is a word for the early part of the morning so you get up early because there's a priority you want to accomplish something and it says if you seek God earnestly first if you make him that priority you shall certainly find him so the point is when we seek God God is going to manifest himself to us read on he positions man he causes him to dwell East of Eden and there are proving what are Hut ravine cherubim now these cherubim are a type of angel and noticed that they had a flaming sword and what was the purpose of that sort well notice that it was flaming was moving back and forth now it's the same word in a different form for when it says earlier on in the scripture that the Spirit of God was Mara hefyd was hovering over the face of the waters now this is that same word in the reflexive stem and the reflexive stems has a back and forth so this fiery sword that the Angels had these these cherubim they were going the swords were moving back and forth in order to accomplish something and what was that to keep man from coming back into the Garden of Eden in order to grab that fruit from the tree of life that option was no longer available to live through that fruit there was going to be another way a redemptive way so once again and these cruel Avene these cherubim and with them was that flaming sword that that went back and forth in order to keep the way of the Tree of Life that is to guard the way back to the Tree of Life now that concludes chapter 3 and we want to move in and handle a first few first a few of the first verses of chapter 4 so let's press on Genesis chapter 4 the first thing we find is this and man knew hava his wife so there was intimacy between them and this goes along with obedience why do I say that because the first commandment that God gave to Adam Bahasa was to be fruitful and multiply and now they're carrying it out they are utilizing they are responding to the commandments of God and it's only when we have that desire to obey God is that process of redemption going to be make known to a god is good to begin to move in our life why do I say that well keep reading and the man knew hava or we could say Adam knew hava his wife and she conceived and she bore kind now kind is the Hebrew enunciation of what we normally called cane and time comes from a Hebrew word that's found in another place in the same verse when haba speaks and she says at the end of verse 1 I have acquired now this is a word lick note it can mean to buy or purchase or simply to acquire to receive something and she says and this is very important she says I have acquired a man and that could be male or it could be her being able to look into the future she sees a baby a male child but she understands in the future that he's going to be a man I acquired a man and here's the key with the Lord meaning she understands this is not her accomplishing it by herself that this child is from the Lord there's a fruitfulness that's found with him here again God in this passage and in all passages he reveals things in order to give us more information so that we can find his revelation being built up all the pieces so we understand things correctly and therefore we can respond to them so here's what we see we see that Adam Bahasa they they obey God they take seriously that commandment to be fruitful and multiply they respond and God participates with that and causes her to acquire a a child with God that's important so with we want God to work in our life to participate in the things that we're doing we better be doing his will we better be responding to his commitments look now to verse 2 and she again literally and she continued to give birth and and his brother Hevel came about and notice what it says says and Hevel was a shepherd of the flock but Cain or kind he was a worker of the soil now remember I said something to your earlier and if we don't remember what God has revealed to us and the importance then when we move forward in the text we miss out on the revelation the knowledge that God wants to give to us so that we can obey serve and be successful in the things of God and let me just say to you if that's not of interest to you see most people in the world they're not interested in God they're interested in the things of the world but those who are interested in God they're interested in the things of the kingdom and therefore everything that they think do say all those things are going to reflect a kingdom hope and here again that Pope is not well I I want this to be no biblical hope always is assured it's just a matter of time now remember we learn that earlier on in the previous chapter as a consequence of sin man and the woman felt ashamed they were guilty and they understood their nakedness that is they understood their condition before God to some degree and they responded by sewing fig leaf together to try to deal with that we've mentioned that three times and God says by his own actions at the end of chapter 3 that man's attempt is inadequate it's insufficient it's imperfect therefore it's rejected and God gives us a hint he provides skins animal skins in order to be that temporary covering it foreshadows something and what does that foreshadow well that's exactly where the text is moving so we're told here that that Hevel he is a shepherd of the flock but kind he is a a worker of the ground now there's nothing wrong with that but if we're dealing with what God finds acceptable it may require us to go outside of our comfort zone what's convenient for us and that we have to acquire that which is right in God's eyes now that's going to become clear in a moment but but press on to verse 3 and it came about at the end of days that's literally what it says and it came about at the end of days now that's important because that phrase also is is reminiscent of the last days now we know that the clock is ticking this world is not going to go on forever there is a time when God says enough and this world is going to be brought to an end and a new Kingdom is going to be established and the only way for us in order to be part of that new kingdom is that we have to overcome our guiltiness our shame that problem we have was sitting out we're the cause of it but we need to know how to deal with ourselves and the first thing is we can't we have to find God's favor remember Adam and Chavez attempt to deal with it God reject it but he gave a hint when he provided animal skins now you can't get the skins of animal without that animal being put to death without the shedding of blood something has to die now when we deal with fig Leafs there's no blood there's no death in that sense but when we look at the animals they died and they shed their blood in order for those skins to be made available for Adam they hava the first man in the first woman so verse verse 3 and it came about at the end of days this gives us an indication of what we need for God to look favorably upon us in the last days it came about from the end of days that kind he brought from the fruit of the field a mint ax and offering or it can simply be the word gift to the Lord now in one sense this is positive we find that kind he wants to give to God but here's the key we have to give to God what he finds acceptable and kind gives from the fruit of the ground that is reminiscent it hints back to the fig leaves now this was convenient for him he was a worker of the ground that's what he had accessible he had plant life he had vegetation he had trees but we see something else we see that Hevel he had something else look at verse 4 but have he brought also and what did he bring it is from what he brought was from the first fruits of his his flux that is he brought the the firstborn of his flocks and it also says a very important word it's a word for the choice once so heavily he just didn't bring what he had but he did an inspection and he brought to God that would she received first and of that which he received first showing a priority for God he only gave the best part and he gave from the flocks meaning what he gave an offering and that offering would have required death and the shedding of blood so if we're going to be acceptable to God if we're going to find forgiveness we're only going to find forgiveness through an offering that involves death why well the offering has to deal with sin and sin involves death so in order to overcome sin there has to be death and there also has to be blood for the remission of sin and the forgiveness of sin so this is what Hevel brought and notice what it says middle of verse four and the Lord and the word here is looked favorable now it's the Hebrew word sha and sha comes from that that in the noun form it's a word for our or we could generalize time so heavily understood that the clock was ticking and therefore he brought the very best he brought what God required secondly when we look at this word it says and the Lord looked favorably but in this form there's a play on words because even though the word is sha to look favorable it's also related in the form here and how it appears to the term salvation now only in Hebrew could you look at this and find those two things being expressed in God's choice of words so the Lord looked favorable to heaven and to his offering his gift verse five and two kind and to his gift he did not look favorably and because of that it says and there was was anger too kind and that anger that that kind had was intense it uses word may out so he was greatly or very angry and his his face or we would say his countenance fell so he's not happy why because he was rejected by God and why was he rejected very simply because he did not provide to the Lord what the Lord required what he found acceptable now here again the paradigm for understanding this is found in the earlier chapter and that is God rejected as an offering these this fig Leafs as a covering for dealing with sin he required a blood sacrifice hate that required those skins of the animal in order to cover up the shame of Adam vltava so this is what's being laid for the reader to understand well move on to verse 6 and the Lord spoke to kind now he didn't want to reject him it wasn't that he didn't like him but he says he gives him revelation he the Lord spoke to time why are you angry and for what reason has your countenance fell verse 7 surely and it's simply a matter of fact he says surely if you do what is good and then there's a word and that word is set and it has to do with being lifted up now in one sense that could be lifted up in the sense that he received their offering if you do what is right proper and then the word here is to make good if you do what is right it's literally if you make that which is right it's also in the positive so we have to make it right and if we do that then and the word here to make right the root of it is good and what is good always related to I've said many times there's an inherent relationship between good and the will of God so what Hashem is saying to kind if you do my will and God revealed it in the previous chapter if you do my will it's going to be well with you and what does he say well he uses that word to act which means to be lifted up it could mean that he's going to receive that offering that's one certainly truth States true statement the other means that you're going to be lifted up or the burden of sin is going to be lifted up however you want to interpret and probably all those but if you do not do good if you do not make it right then at the door is sin and sin is lying at the door and unto you is it's passion now this is the same word which is used earlier on in the previous chapter when it says that the desire of the woman will be for her man and here it's simply saying that sin desires us sin wants to work in our life and if we don't follow the revelation of God for dealing with it well the end result is going to be disastrous and he says and you and here's the key and you must rule over it now remember he talked to kind saying that you're going to work the lane he said that initially to his father and he starts doing it and we make a statement concerning the the truth that we need to work on ourselves and now God reveals what we have to do we have to learn to have victory over sin we have to rule we have to dominate sin and the only way that we do that is what God has revealed here that there has to be a blood offering and when we say blood offering what should come into our mind redemption without blood now here again I'm going to say something that I said not too long ago and that is this there are individuals that are are setting aside the the blood of Messiah they're saying no it's only important that he died the blood is not a factor that is a false teacher what we need to realize is that blood is an integral part of God's plan and work of redemption the reason why kinds offering was rejected is that it was not accompanied with the shedding of blood so he says and you and it's what God expects from all of us we need to be able to dominate sin that is we need to know how to rule and defeat it in our life if we don't well we're going to be not serving God but we are going to be serving the enemy we are going to see that the enemy is ruling over us so the question is this are you in a position whereby you can have victory over the enemy that you can be delivered from the power of sin the only way is through Redemption well we'll close with that for now and we're going to press on next week as we continue in chapter 4 and we're going to see how kind responds to God's revelation does he receive it and obey it or does he reject it and that's really a question that all of us have to answer are we going to be changed by the Word of God or are we going to reject the Word of God and go about things our way are we gonna let sin rule in our life and lead us into doing things that sin wants us to do or are we going to do what God wants us to do see you can't have two masters but you're going to have one it's either the Lord or it is the enemy has a time and it manifests himself through the power of sin well we'll close with that until next
